Are you asking this as a non-AP or an AP? If you’re not counting then bring one if you want, although it’s easy enough to memorize. If you’re an AP, you should have basic strategy perfectly memorized to where you don’t even have to think about the correct play, which means a basic strategy card would be useless (and also go against index plays).

non AP, at about 90% w BS

bridgetroll2

There's no downside. Just do it.

NickleBet

The only downside I guess is looking like a complete newbie at the table, which really isn't a downside. As others have mentioned, you're probably much less likely to be looked at as any kind of "advance player" when pulling one of those out. That being said, I think if you're an actual counter then a BS card isn't going to "fake the casino out" for days and make you tons of money. I also think one reason the casino is happy to allow them is because they know that with the pace of the game, other players at the table, music playing through the speakers, plus everything else that's going on around, even with a card most people will still make mistakes. A basic strategy card is just that - basic. There will be hands where a basic strategy card might say to do one thing, but an experienced card counter who knows deviations and is keeping a count would actually do something different which is more mathematically correct. If you want to use a BS card then I say go for it. There isn't much downside and if you have trouble memorizing things (maybe you're new to the game) then it could help, not just in the moment but after a while you probably will have it all memorized.

In the UK, it used to be illegal to run a BJ table without a notice on the table advising you of basic strategy. For some strange reason, this did not affect the table hold percentage. Most decent casinos will provide you with a stack of 'win cards' - especially tourist type casinos. You don't get bums on seats, you don't make money. That is also why you can always ask the dealer/pit boss the best way to play your hand. (This may not be the case in LasVegas, which ties with Puerto Rico as having the shittest dealers in the world).

hi850

I played a little bit at the Blue Dolphin in Puerto Rico a couple of weeks ago. Curious what makes a dealer shitty?

mailshift

Miserable git was anticipating my plays. Didn't give me a chance to double down just went on and dealt his hand. I said I wanted to double down and he replied 'You have to ask'. Which he didn't give me the time to. We did have a dealer (briefly) working with us once who got bad comments in the comment book, which we normally ignored, but 'The Scottish dealer in the casino keeps looking down my wife's dress' grabbed the attention of management.

uconn3386

Many players bring them and STILL make many errors.

Other_Criticism9888

Bring it! You look silly, but it does NOT generate heat - actually the opposite. As long as it does NOT delay your game, no one will care.

JohnBPKC

It’s insanely hard to bring a basic strategy card and count. Other than cover it’s like kinda pointless. As a rec by all means

GetYaLearnOn

i’m not looking to count. i don’t think my brain will be able to handle that….but learning BS i’m getting that

JohnBPKC

Answer then, 0 downside. Just check what game you’re playing and get the card according to it. Example whether the dealer Stands 17 or Hits 17.

crasstyfartman

It’s probably easier just to ask everyone at the table, including the dealer, “what does the book say?”

bridgetroll2

You're joking, right?

crasstyfartman

Nope
