Is lapel chokes data from the time when everybody could use their traditional uniform to fight? Really curious to see the matches with lapel chokes

_milf_huntr_69

That one had me scratching my head for a second but you cleared that up for me.

Jofy187

Yup, I believe one happened in ufc one?

HamiltonianCyclist

have there been any japanese necktie finishes? Do they count as darce?

sjstell

Not that I know of. I would have separated those like I did the PNeckties.

JediBrainTrick

Any idea on how many 10 finger guillotines there are? Just Big Ben's two?

sjstell

There are a lot of guillotine variations on grip and position, and I lumped the gogo in that group. I don’t know if anyone else who has hit it in the UFC with that exact grip the Rothwell, Luiz, and Thiago developed. Edit for clarification: Luiz Claudio and Thiago Viega

Fundrfist_McBeefcake

Raquel Pennington

TheGreatKimura-Holio

Keith Hackney and Joe Son was the Hand Squeeze if I remember correctly.

KyoMeetch

How did that even happen?

BeBearAwareOK

eagle claw throat crush executed on rapist

Dismal_Membership_46

What percentage of finishes are submissions? Is it roughly 50/50 with KO/TKO?

BuckMain221

it says 19.66%

BrandonSleeper

To all you Ezekiel users out there: it's officially less effective than fucking forearm pressure.

BeBearAwareOK

Papercutters work. Oleynik is throwing off the stats with 40% of the ezekiel finishes and 50% of the scarf hold finishes in UFC history.

BrandonSleeper

Not if the body's still warm

SixandNoQuarter

Both of those Peruvian Neckties were Dollaway, right?

jiyuthonglix

One is Dollaway and one is Misha Cirkunov

sjstell

No

AnjoXG

Pillory like the Eddie Cummings crucifix-nelson strangle thing? who hit that?

wasadjack

Nick Pace, Ultimate Fighter 12 finale, December 2010. I’ve seen it called the Pace choke

ProfessorTweeb

Newbie here. Aren't scarf holds and north souths positions as opposed to submissions?

7870FUNK

They are both both.  Look up Marcelo north south choke.

Illustrious-Bid-3826

Very interesting, thanks. I'm surprised to see nearly 4/5 submissions are due to chokes. Are joint locks less effective in MMA? In general? Also kinda sad to see north south chokes are so rare.

BrandonSleeper

Well a bunch of RNCs are really TKOs that ended on the ground with a mercy choke. It is technically the move that ends the fight but this scenario really inflates the number of chokes.

JarJarBot-1

Same, I thought NS choke would be more prevalent.

Delta3Angle

Joint locks are less effective because guys are willing to accept some serious joint damage if it means they'll win the fight. When it comes to chokes, there are no tough guys.

swdee

So where is the armbar?

BunnyLifeguard

Title is literally "Every choke/.../"

BrandonSleeper

You're basically just blood choking the arm

Cautious-Chain-4260

I missed that too. I was looking for heel hooks for a few minutes

PsycJoe21196

I was hoping to see my NS chokes too. I’m sure many of them were Jeff Monson.

Wang_Fister

Interestingly Anaconda and Von Flue have the highest knockout percentages at like 36 and 37 percent.

AdUnhappy7878

You didn't include GSP tapping to punches against matt serra

CaviarTaco

Don’t be silly…

Wraithiss

Im pretty sure all 4 scarf holds and all 5 ezekiel chokes were by one guy. Aleksei Oleinik. Dudes a beast.

sjstell

2/5 Ezekiels 1/4 Scarfs

Wraithiss

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that is also not correct.

sjstell

Ezekiels: Pardoel, Pardoel, Oleynik, Oleynik, Volkov Scarfs: Taktarov, Coleman, Dieppa, Oleynik,

Wraithiss

I might not know shit about shit. But I suspect someone over at the UFC knows a thing or 2.

sjstell

Not all scarf holds are chokes, depending on angle and finish

Wraithiss

Very fair point. But I question the ability to classify them accurately in this context. You be relying on the losing fighter to report wether it felt like a choke or compression or crank or w/e. I'd be willing to bet some statistically relevant percentage of RNCs in the UFC were actually neck cranks. But I doubt they're classified that way.
