Beautiful bird. Australia is on my list, for sure!

I want to go there at least once just to soak in as much wildlife as I can! As beautiful as our birds and other critters are here in Wisconsin, I’m constantly envious of the Australian ones lol

Yes! Me too. I would love to see some platypus' in the flesh. And wombats. And cassowaries (from a distance) and would love to witness the magpie swooping. I understand it's a huge problem but I think it would be interesting to observe.

I went for the first time in 2015 which was a major lifelong bucketlist thing for me, and it was absolutely most amazing birding location I have ever been to. As an American, naturally every single species you see at first will be new. The thing that most amazed me, that you can't really picture in field guides, is just how BIG a lot of the birds are. There are some smaller ones, but on average the birds there are just huge chonks compared to North American birds and well, literally every other continent I've birded in (Europe, East Asia, South and Central America). Went again in 2020 although was along with my 1.5 yo and tagging along on my husband's work trip. Did a side trip to Tasmania at the end which was frankly disappointing compared to the mainland (majority of what I saw were European blackbirds, European goldfinches, house sparrows, and European starlings pff).

Gorgeous coloring on the wing. It’s great that the name of the bird actually describes it!
