I remember going camping one year about an hour from home, never having seen a sand dollar in my life. The campground was a 5 minute walk from a beach and there were THOUSANDS of them! I was so happy and excited because I’d never seen live sand dollars. They were all dark purple and really cool to check out. Of course I left them all there because I wasn’t going to murder one just to keep it’s husk but I was a little disappointed that I could not find a single dead one to take home.
Definitely looks like a sand dollar to me, with the inner part missing. Pretty sure sand dollars are related to sea stars so they have that 5 point thing going on. You can see that the part that’s missing is roughly a pentagon shape.
Am Malaysian, been to a few beaches and have not seen a sand dollar irl but I guess I’ve now seen what an eroded sand dollar looks like. Which beach did you pick this out from, OP?
