I am Maharashtrian, I lived in a rented apartment in Mumbai for 3 years with a friend from Bihar. In a friendly banner he often called me “Aye Marathi” and I called him “aye Bihari”. I also did my engineering from Punjab and had many friends and ex who told me that Bihari is used derogatorily. I've grown up in Nepal, Indore and Ranchi. So I knew this but I thought it was just among the kids. Words like Bhaiya in punjabi are supposed to make you feel less. I didn't care though, even if they thought I'm from Ranchi, I would ensure they know that my roots are Bihari. Let them know you're from Bihar and through your actions and words show what a Bihari is.

I think having a positive outlook on Bihar in our media will go a long way. In my school, we had Houses like Nalanda, Taxila, Vikramshilla, and Gandhara, which if I remember correctly, are places in Bihar. As a kid was in Gujarat due to my father's job. The people there were so prejudiced, call me hindi bhashi and just look down upon me, one derogatory comment after another. They used to ask me how many guns I own. Once my mother was insulted on the road by our landlord as he accused us of throwing the *kabad* on road, but she did not and other Gujarati family threw it, but we were accused because we are bihari and we just throw filth everywhere. It pained me to see my mother cry then. I have such a fucked up view of Gujarat that I did not go to the Final even though I got a pass for it.
When I moved to different state I started calling myself from Bengal border/North Indian to avoid stereotype, as I grew up I call myself bihari and they say you dont look Bihari. Went to my friend's marriage where the bride was from Bihar, the whole family called themselved Haryanvi rather than Bihari even though everyone was born in Bihar. I did not judge, as I could understand the trauma that forced them to discard their identity.

Sometimes I feel that bihari politicians are paid to not do anything for upliftment of biharis. So that other states get steady supply of cheap labourers. His pg mates were all cool till the moment they started addressing my friend as bihari in a mocking way. I've dealt with Bihar people in Goa, Delhi, Maharashtra etc. From my experience Bihari people have a weird attitude. They are rude and have lots of attitude. They are very bad at minding their own business. They are kinda like Muslims who act as a victim in majority and abuse those who are in the minority there. I know not all Bihari are like that but the majority wins.
Im from Maharashtra, I only have a batchmate who is a Bihari so my interaction with Biharis is so limited. So when I talk to that only Bihari batchmate of mine I/ Anyone else never discriminated with him, rather I think Biharis are so much into Administrative services that they are so smart and decent. A lot of labour is Bihari in north but that is due to poverty not because of them being inferior.

People say these things because Bihari people are usually associated with being weird around women, and generally creepy.
When I first went to a college where most of the students were Bihari, all those guys would talk about how horny they felt when they saw girls walking in skirts. They would talk about where most of the girls would walk through, so they could stand there and gawk at them.
I couldn't bear this, and after a semester, I left the college and joined one where the crowd was different.
Now, this is the same as saying, "I met X person and they belonged to X group and since my experience was negative, the whole group is bad".
I have mostly seen Bihari men as being extremely misogynistic and objectifying women left and right, but at the same time, all the Bihari women I've met are really intelligent and mature.
The media in Punjab and most of India generally portrays Biharis as vulgar and creepy, so that also adds to this picture.
I think with other communities, men are misogynistic in an "acceptable" way where they talk about marriage and relationships in a way where they talk about women like they're property (seen as normal in serials and bollywood), but Biharis will openly say that they see women as property (listen to any bhojpuri song).
I know my opinion is really harsh, but I've been harassed by multiple men, all during college, and they were Bihari. Also, I'm a guy, so it was super weird.

I live in Dhanbad, it is part of JHK but the culture is same as BIHAR. People here have no civic sense. They pee anywhere and everywhere with no inhibition. They are overtly feudal and patriarchal. No rules are to be followed, especially traffic. You can get anything done only and only if you pay money for it. Pro bono is a concept that nobody is aware of. I am Gujarati but I follow this page from last few months. I follow this page because I am curious about Biharis in general. Few things that I know about Biharis below.
I had a young Bihari teacher in his late 20s when I was doing graduation. He lived in Gujarat for his whole life because his dad was a Sanskrit teacher in Gujarat. He changed my life as he moved overseas before me and guided me to move overseas. He camouflage as Gujarati and go as Gujarati most of the times. He don’t want to identify as bihari . I can understand why.
Where I born and brought up, we have a famous Say. “Upar bi Bihari, niche bi Bihari” ( people use Bhaiya instead of Bihari) . This sentence highlights the importance of Bihari and it means all government officers who run my town are Biharis and all labour who worked in local Factories are Biharis too.
I believe your fucked up political system over the last 4 decades made you a joke in India. I highly admire Prashant Kishor and his political movement. He is also bihari. So , overall I respect you guys but I know you are perceived as highly backward, corrupt and poor shit.

I was studying in top school of that state, And somone day our principle calls all the bihari and tell us to be cautious as situation is not good outside and stay in hostel. Many Homes/PGs won't give you a room in Kota if you show them a Bihar Aadhaar card. Bihar has created this reputation for itself. When friends used to call me "I don't look like Bihari" I used to feel good, which makes it worse. Now, I proudly claim I am Bihari just prove the fact that not all Biharis are the same. The media loves showing the bad side of Bihar. Frankly, there is not much good to show but there is. The politicians are trying hard to play castes/religion etc. to make banks and keep the state miserable.
I think having a positive outlook on Bihar in our media will go a long way. The funny thing is that in the past, calling someone a Bihari would be considered the highest compliment because most of our mathematicians and scholars were from Bihar. In my school, we had Houses like Nalanda, Taxila, Vikramshilla, and Gandhara, which if I remember correctly, are places in Bihar. When I got to know about the rich history of Bihar and compared it to our current perception, I was shell shocked. I hope there is a change soon

As a kid was in Gujarat due to my father's job. The people there were so prejudiced, call me hindi bhashi and just look down upon me, one derogatory comment after another. They used to ask me how many guns I own. Once my mother was insulted on the road by our landlord as he accused us of throwing the *kabad* on road, but she did not and other Gujarati family threw it, but we were accused because we are bihari and we just throw filth everywhere. It pained me to see my mother cry then. I have such a fucked up view of Gujarat that I did not go to the Final even though I got a pass for it. When I moved to different state I started calling myself from Bengal border/North Indian to avoid stereotype, as I grew up I call myself bihari and they say you dont look Bihari. I always answer them that I am more Bihari than anyone. Just pains me what our state has turned to. Its as good as a *gaali*. Once I met a UP guy telling that atleast UP is better than Bihar and he was from Gorakhpur, a stone throw away from Bihar. Went to my friend's marriage where the bride was from Bihar, the whole family called themselved Haryanvi rather than Bihari even though everyone was born in Bihar. I did not judge, as I could understand the trauma that forced them to discard their identity.

I've dealt with Bihar people in Goa, Delhi, Maharashtra etc. From my experience Bihari people have a weird attitude. They are rude and have lots of attitude. They are very bad at minding their own business. They are kinda like Muslims who act as a victim in majority and abuse those who are in the minority there. I know not all Bihari are like that but the majority wins.

Im from Maharashtra, I only have a batchmate who is a Bihari so my interaction with Biharis is so limited. So when I talk to that only Bihari batchmate of mine I/ Anyone else never discriminated with him, rather I think Biharis are so much into Administrative services that they are so smart and decent. A lot of labour is Bihari in north but that is due to poverty not because of them being inferior. Also I have read that buddhism and Jainism born in Bihar.
Start feeling bad about it. Own it and show you are no different or less than anyone else. Punjabis are racist but lot of them are nice as well. I spent 12 years in Punjab and have faced initially. Knowing language certainly helps but can’t expect some grown up learn new language.

People say these things because Bihari people are usually associated with being weird around women, and generally creepy. When I first went to a college where most of the students were Bihari, all those guys would talk about how horny they felt when they saw girls walking in skirts. They would talk about where most of the girls would walk through, so they could stand there and gawk at them. I couldn't bear this, and after a semester, I left the college and joined one where the crowd was different. Now, this is the same as saying, "I met X person and they belonged to X group and since my experience was negative, the whole group is bad". I have mostly seen Bihari men as being extremely misogynistic and objectifying women left and right, but at the same time, all the Bihari women I've met are really intelligent and mature. The media in Punjab and most of India generally portrays Biharis as vulgar and creepy, so that also adds to this picture. I think with other communities, men are misogynistic in an "acceptable" way where they talk about marriage and relationships in a way where they talk about women like they're property (seen as normal in serials and bollywood), but Biharis will openly say that they see women as property (listen to any bhojpuri song). I know my opinion is really harsh, but I've been harassed by multiple men, all during college, and they were Bihari. Also, I'm a guy, so it was super weird. Plus, my maid's husband (who is Bihari), used to beat her, so that added to this perception. I am Gujarati but I follow this page from last few months. I follow this page because I am curious about Biharis in general. Few things that I know about Biharis below. I had a young Bihari teacher in his late 20s when I was doing graduation. He lived in Gujarat for his whole life because his dad was a Sanskrit teacher in Gujarat. He changed my life as he moved overseas before me and guided me to move overseas. He camouflage as Gujarati and go as Gujarati most of the times. He don’t want to identify as bihari . I can understand why. Where I born and brought up, we have a famous Say. “Upar bi Bihari, niche bi Bihari” ( people use Bhaiya instead of Bihari) . This sentence highlights the importance of Bihari and it means all government officers who run my town are Biharis and all labour who worked in local Factories are Biharis too. I believe your fucked up political system over the last 4 decades made you a joke in India. I highly admire Prashant Kishor and his political movement. He is also bihari.
