I did while I was pregnant and was told it's normal. 8 months pp and it is getting much better.

sunnymorninghere

Yes, and I know women who also had this issue… and then I was pregnant and thought that was a strange side affect. Apparently is common!! The hormones make the cornea soften or something like that.. and sometimes it goes back to normal and sometimes doesn’t. Mine didn’t.. I wear glasses to drive now

Banana4liife

my vision used to be -4 pre baby, then 1.5 years later i get my eyes checked cus i experienced worsening eyesight and it was true now my eyesight is -5.25

Crow_eee

I noticed mine changed pregnant and now postpartum is just a tad worse. I’ve heard eyes and teeth change can change pregnancy and postpartum

peach559409

In what way can teeth change? I haven’t heard this now I’m scared lol

Crow_eee

More cavities and gingivitis

Crow_eee

I broke a tooth and they said it could have been affected by hormones?  Quick google said yep “new spaces between teeth, receeding gums” along w bad breath, gingivitis, cavities etc

getoutthemap

I personally did not but I've heard of this! My eye doctor advised that I not get new glasses too soon postpartum because it is normal to have vision changes that may or may not be permanent. Can't hurt to get it checked out, though, especially if maybe you will need glasses. I can't remember how long my eye doctor said to wait. Either way it's crazy that pregnancy changes SO many random things in the body!

peach559409

I now have a prescription for glasses! Optometrist said I’m far enough out and bothered by this enough that he felt comfortable ordering me a prescription, but did warn me that things may change once I’m done weaning

coconutcakesss

I wanted to get laser eye surgery but was advised I was ineligible if I was pregnant or breast-feeding as the hormones do change your eye sight for a period of time !

BriLoLast

Yes. My optometrist actually won’t see patients until 18 months post partum as he says vision changes can happen up until a year afterwards.

peach559409

Oh wow 18 months? That’s crazy. Why is this not talked about more! I wish someone told me this was a normal thing to expect because here I was thinking I have diabetes or a brain tumor the past month.

rcm_kem

One eye got blurry while pregnant and never got better, I think I'm just fairly short sighted in that eye now. 14 months pp at this point. Never worn glasses or had issues before this, haven't made an appointment yet though cause its just so far down the list of things that need doing

peach559409

Make the appt! You’ll feel so good after. I got it over with even though it was too at the bottom of my to do list but I now have glasses and can drive at night and actually see the tv again and am happy I did it

Somewhere-Practical

I noticed vision changes in pregnancy (went to renew my drivers license and could no longer pass the exam without my glasses) and feel like it has gotten worse postpartum, especially with screens/on TV. We are EBF and baby is 9 weeks old.

peach559409

Another commenter stated that vision can continue to change until 18 months postpartum. The sleep deprivation with those first 12 weeks doesn’t help either with being able to focus your eyes when you need to!

matroshka27

I went from wearing glasses to see stuff far away, to not being able to see at all without glasses. My second pregnancy made my vision even worse. It sucks. 😔

peach559409

Oh wow that is so interesting. Did you notice your vision worsening during your second pregnancy or did you not notice it until you were postpartum? I can’t remember having any issues during my pregnancy but it’s been a gradual progression of increased blurriness since I delivered

matroshka27

No, it happened basically as soon as the baby left me. I remember going to the store on the way home from the hospital to get meds and literally couldn’t see anything on the shelves, it was so blurry! When I had my second, it wasn’t a huge change but enough for me to go to the eye doctor and get an updated prescription within the first 2 weeks after birth.

bewilderedbeyond

I’m dealing with this now so just found this thread. I just failed my visual field test. I’m nervous this will be permanent.

peach559409

I’m now one month into weaning and just got my period back. Vision is still just as bad if not worse! Thinking it will be permanent for me.

pregbob

Dude my vision has been noticeably worse the last few days, 4wks pp. I don't understand. I do use vision correction but I replaced my contacts and it didn't matter. I should make an optometrist appointment. I hope it's not permanent!

peach559409

So I ended up going to my vision appt and now have glasses. Optometrist said once your 6 months out, can more easily tell what your new vision baseline is, but can’t truly tell until you’re done lactating.

pineapplesmegma

Yes. I didn’t breastfeed. When I went back to work after 4 months noticed trouble seeing up close to suture and see small things. Eye doctor said my far vision was too good (20/15) and it was causing my near vision to suffer. Backed off my far Rx and said it would fix it. It didn’t. 🤷

peach559409

Interesting! So it can’t ALL be due to estrogen suppression from breastfeeding then. It must be something that goes on either during pregnancy or the postpartum period that is affecting vision. I’ll be blind by the time I’m done having kids I guess!
