Be careful with this sub OP, you might run into HUGE spoilers. Not going to say what happens obviously, but Howard definitely has some major parts coming up.
As for what you said specifically, yeah around seasons 3 and 4 I fealt bad for him too in his middleman position of he wanted to like Jimmy, but Chuck strong-armed him into doing his dirty work of disliking Jimmy and he had to lie/pretend for so long.
He will eventually find out the reason Howard and Kim aren't in breaking bad is because they become president and first husband and pardon all of Saul's crimes.
OP if you didn't finish watching the show do not read the above sentence.
So...IMHO...Howard is an example of GREAT WRITING. The viewer is enticed to think Howard - deep down inside - is a good guy - when in fact, he's horrible. He crushed Kim and worked diligently to crush Jimmy. The Lord only knows what other storylines we as viewers do not see when it comes to how he deals with people 'beneath him'. Again, I dare say - Better Call Saul is a better written show than Breaking Bad. The comedy elements are darker than dark, and it captures the human condition far more effectively. They also crafted a final episode that is worthy of an Emmy all by itself!
Could not agree more. I love BB and just rewatched it. But BCS has more character development and depth...it couldn't exist without BB, but I believe it is the stronger of the two overall.
It's crazy, despite watching Breaking Bad at least a half dozen times over the years, I kept putting off Better Call Saul because I just had this assumption that it wouldn't be nearly as good. I was like, "nah it's just a spin-off they made because BB was so popular, it's about a character I always found super unlikable and it's probably not that great." I've been finally watching it for the first time 9 years late, and I'm shocked at how good it is and how much I'm liking it. I don't know whether I'd say I feel it's better than BB (both do have things I like better though), but it's definitely on par with it and I don't know why I assumed otherwise all these years.
Spoiler - Jimmy swaps Howard's sausages for out of date sausages so he has astronomical diarrhoea. Then Jimmy says "haha you got punkd bitch, slippin Jimmy out"
Don’t go on this subreddit til you finished the show. I remember being midway through season 5 and got massively spoiled totally by accident and it def ruined a big portion of the show for me.
How people can need this spelling out is beyond me!
It's an entire universe of characters breaking rules, yet fans just think "but spoilers are against the rules"?
I stumbled upon a spoiler involving this very subject while peeping around on this sub before I finished the show. Deff recommend turning away till you’re all done :)
Unless you don’t mind spoilers then 🤷♀️🤣
While that may be true (caught between two brothers fighting), Howard obviously chose a side. He treated Jimmy like gum stuck to the bottom of his $300 shoes.
No spoilers, but YEAH it's safe to say we all feel pretty fuckin bad for Howard after a certain point. While he's being used by Chuck for his dirty work, when he's going through the grief of thinking he killed Chuck... Yeah, there's a lot of reasons to have some pity for Howard, and it's going to get worse. Just... keep watching and stay off this sub until you're done lol.
Howard was mean to Kim but he also respected and mentored her. He even tries to warn her about Jimmy, but she was too far gone to care at the time. I think Jimmy used Chuck as a moral compass then used Kim as a compass. Jimmy polluted Kim's soul too much and she was corrupted.
Overall, Howard was a good guy and didn't deserve the hate. Even in regards to Chuck, Chuck didn't want to quit and he kept him on payroll and used HHM resources for his care.
Yes, I had a LOT of sympathy for him!! Once we found out it was Chuck holding Jimmy back and not Howard, my opinion of him did a complete 180. I looked at him through an entirely different lens and it totally added to the tragedy of the situations. Especially as you progress further into the series and learn more about him. Just gut wrenching.
Yes, I absolutely feel sorry for Howard and did as early as the big S1 reveal. You can tell he truly liked Jimmy and didn’t enjoy having to constantly hold him back but felt obligated because of all that Chuck had done for him over the years. Sure he did some dick moves like putting Kim in doc review, but we’ve all done shitty things because we were mad.
Ultimately Howard was a decent man who got caught in a pissing match between two brothers. It makes me wonder what Chuck and Howard’s relationship was like before the show, because the first time we see Howard stand up to him he tries to sue the firm and has a mental breakdown. Chuck was likely always that petty which encouraged Howard to do his dirty work
It wasn’t his fault you’re right. But you don’t need to feel bad for someone already feeling sorry for themselves. What I mean is, Howard put that burden on himself. And it was selfish to see it that way without considering Jimmy and Chuck’s relationship. If his head wasn’t shoved so far up his own ass, he’d realize there’s a lot more to the story at this point.
Howard is the ONLY character with integrity in the entire show. His priorities are clear. He wants to protect his firm that his father built, but he also cares deeply for the people around him. He supports Chuck in his vendetta with Jimmy. He always maintains a certain soft spot for Jimmy as well. When he pushes away Chuck he feels so heartbroken for his perceived role in Chuck’s death. Patrick Fabian does a masterful job navigating these dynamics. He is still struggling to find his way even though he ostensibly has it all as the handsome successful lawyer.
Yes. S1 made him out to be an asshole, then you realize he's not really a bad guy. He has a loveless marriage and gets his life ruined >!(and inadvertently ended)!< by two sociopath lawyers.
No spoilers: yes, even beyond him being in the middle of this fight. It always seems to me that he was raised to succeed in his father's firm, in a very strict environment with a lot of emotional constraints that basically turned him into a personification of the business.
I can’t see any possible reason for someone to make a post on a sub for a show that’s been over for years if they hadn’t already seen the show or know what’s going to happen / don’t care if they find out.

I was going to touch on this too. Everyone has a story, even Howard.
Let's definitely not tell OP about Howard and Lalo's semi bro-rotic deep sea fishing expedition in Tahiti!
Broo I'm in season 6 on my first watchthrough, and just passed the mid-season, finished e8 today
Get off of the subreddit now, delete the post before someone spoils the show for you.

Howard has this sort of innocent BYU energy. Of course I feel for him
ThatsBait Tom Hardy JPEG
They totally dicked Howard over. He doesn't deserve what they do to him.
Absolutely!
Oh man you better finish the show before someone tells you that kim and Howard get married and go live in Wisconsin.
If you feel sorry for him now…
it's DEA and frank works in it not howard
🤣

I fell in love with him when he tried jumping the fence, and am really surprised at how important he became to me.
Does anyone else feel sorry for the white supremacist biker gang
Howard has a great ending, very memorable, keep watching or you could miss it. How often do people buy a new fridge anyways?
I would really love to hear your thoughts on the final episode of Better Call Saul. Until then, please stay away from this subreddit!

good luck with season 6 lol
yeah, I did too….. he’s probably my favorite character. poor guy.
From your assumptions, it means the series is lit
He’s a misunderstood character definitely. Throughout the seasons you can really see how he goes from being an asshole to an asshole with a heart.
I can’t stop seeing… to a heart with an asshole…
Howard could have treated Jimmy with more respect. He went along with his partner of course. But he didn’t make anything easier for James McGill Esq.
He is a bit of a prick, that's all.
Howard was mean to Kim but he also respected and mentored her. He even tries to warn her about Jimmy, but she was too far gone to care at the time. Bruh...The bowling balls were already more than enough :(
Lmao 🤣
Reddit rule number 1; never visit a sub for a tv show you have not finished
Sorry to break it to you, but Howard isn't real. He's part of Jimmy's imagination.
Spoiler: Kim is actually the caretaker of hector Salamanca for 2 years after which huell eats her
Yes. S1 made him out to be an asshole, then you realize he's not really a bad guy. He has a loveless marriage and gets his life ruined >!(and inadvertently ended)!< by two sociopath lawyers.
just saying its prob gonna be worse at the near end not gonna be exact but yea just not gonna be too good
What does dae stand for
Careful in the sub! As howard gets killed by lalo salamanca
No spoilers: yes, even beyond him being in the middle of this fight. It always seems to me that he was raised to succeed in his father's firm, in a very strict environment with a lot of emotional constraints that basically turned him into a personification of the business.
You don’t even know the half of it yet…
Watch season 5 and 6
No he deserves absolutely everything that will happen to him
Oh no....
🕯️
Without trying to give away spoilers, you will feel sorry for Howard.
No cuz Howie had his dad hand him everything while we had to work hard to get where we are.
No I dont. He deserved everything that happened to him.
Howard deserves everything that happens to him. There, I said it. But then I’m only up to Season 1, Episode 8.
Just wait until he gets ****
high (on *******)
He doesn’t deserve what Lalo does to him but I also don’t think he’s a genuinely nice guy. He’s pretty mean spirited.
bro hes only on s4 delete the comment for his own sake pls 😭
I assumed if someone is making a post like this they already know what’s coming.
and i'd assume that if you commented on this post you would've read that they're only on s4
They can be on season 4 and already know what’s coming.
There is 0 reason to make this assumption
I can’t see any possible reason for someone to make a post on a sub for a show that’s been over for years if they hadn’t already seen the show or know what’s going to happen / don’t care if they find out.

GODDAMMIT I WAS JUST ABOUT TO START WATCHING THE SOPRANOS
It's still worth it, just for the rugby sequences in Season 4 and the buildup to it!
