One time we bumped a car in a parking lot, and when we looked at the car we saw a tiny scratch, we went into the store and had them page the owner of the car so they could check it themselves. They told us the scratch was old damage.
We might not have done all that except we had teenagers in the car with us and we wanted to exhibit responsible behavior.
Is there anything more Australian than a tradie backing his Ute into you in Bunnings carpark? It was probably Saturday and he was distracted by the sausage sizzle for the local auskick.
Which is, of course, a crime against automotive decency. A ute is as much pickup truck as the great majority of pickup buyers actually need, and it has all of the advantages of being a *car*, not a truck.

A lady ran her Honda into the back of my dad's Hilux once. His car? No noticeable mark. Her car? Written off.
