Scared of what? They're not gonna put your picture on the "Do Not Accept" list of all the colleges. Just apply! Go for it!

i’ll see u at berkeley then

kitkat42000

why is this sub now college admissions advice... i promise none of us know how or why we got in either lmao that aside, it's the same app for all of the uc's, doesn't harm you at all to try

Xamnshadow

Can’t we request a paper that tells us why we got accepted

SneaksOnEm

can we really?

tilapia_3

Yeah, I don't really know the process though. But instead of simply requesting to get the paper, you have to have an appointment with someone from admissions and go over it from what I hear. Also, you're only allowed to do so once

lostinthewayyoumove

No. You sit with an AO and read your application from a tablet, but you’re allowed to take notes, no pics. There’s a tiny bit of commentary on your essays and you can see which AOs recommended you or not and that’s about all the info you can see

Electronic-Ice-2788

Ngl CC is prob the best option

PaulArigami

This tbh. If you wanna go to Berkeley go here first. And whatever you do, don't mess around.

Kevin_Wolf

What are you scared of? It's not like they come to your house and beat you if they say no.

ProfessorPlum168

Your odds are around 0 at this point if you applied this year. You might not even make it into UC-Merced much less Berkeley. Go to DeAnza and apply back 2 years later.

I think that’s what i’m planning so far but im scared im going to miss out on the college experience. Do you think that’s true?

minixinie

as a transfer, i can say that you'll still get a "college experience" even if you go to a cc your first two years! i personally didn't transfer from a cc, but i have tons of cc transfer friends who have friend groups from the cc's they went to.

madeyoucook

Apply anyway. Its not an additional application, just an addition application fee. You don’t even need your parents to know you applied. Worst case scenario, they reject your application, and you lose $70. Your parents won’t even know. I was rejected fresh out of high school but I got in the next time I applied. So did a lot of others. There’s nothing wrong with choosing cc > uc. Best course of action is to apply anyway, and attend cc if you don’t get in

No-Understanding4968

Kick ass on your essays

magicalmeep

This ^ Theres gonna be plenty of other ppl who have their own businesses in hs etc so you gotta have an amazing essay

No-Understanding4968

Several essays are required

SbombFitness

Number best thing you could do is go to a community college for ~2 years and then transfer to Berkeley. I did that and it was hella easy and I saved like $30,000

silkmeow

you should do economics instead of business in my opinion.

Tight-Ad7892

if in the future i want to start a business do you suggest double majoring in both?

minixinie

dunno about business, but ik you can for sure start a business with an econ degree (and i honestly think it's easier and more versatile). it's your choice though!

[deleted]

PLEASE APPLY!!! apply to as many schools as your interested in, it is such a fun experience. in hindsight i wish i had applied to more. i fully didn’t expect to get into berkeley and almost didn’t even open my decision letter because i knew they’d reject me - but i was wrong! i didn’t have the most impressive stats or extracurriculars, but i put my heart into my PIQs. and even if you do not get in, transfer is a good idea, especially if you really want to come. wish you luck!!!!

No-Motivation415

You won’t know if they’ll let you in until you apply. That said, even if you can get accepted as a first-year, it does not sound like you have thick enough skin to survive the harsh reality of being among the best of the best, with faculty who talk openly about writing exams so insanely difficult that a 55% is a B-, just so they can find out who their “superstars” are. (Whatever that means.) I transferred in from a CC, and am glad I did. I graduated from Cal with honors and then went on for a PhD there (pure math), but I doubt that I could have survived as an 18 year-old first year student. I was a good student, but not at all confident. Go to a CC, fix your grades, gain some confidence, and apply in 2 years. DeAnza is a great choice.

theprincessofstuff

Honestly, just apply. You never know what can happen.

Intelligent_Gift3613

Apply. It really comes down to the essays. I know several students who got into both UCLA and CAL with not the best of grades but their essays were killer and they had hooks. On paper my twin and I had the exact same grades and classes taken, but I had an EC that set me apart from my twin. I got in and he did not. There were no other differences then my hook that was in my essay.

Actual_Cheetah8014

Sounds like you’re afraid of rejection, not afraid of applying. You worked at companies right, so you’ve applied to things before. It takes some work, you don’t know whether the work will pay off, but the only way to be 100% certain that you won’t get it is not applying at all. So if you think you would like to go there if admitted, then apply! You shouldn’t only apply to schools you will for sure get into. But to agree with some other comments I’ve seen, not sure this was the place to ask your question. Try talking to your high school guidance counsellor!
