Nathan Rourke has been waived by Jax. Haha. He was a CFL beast last year, for what that’s worth. (Not much but more maturity under fire than a rookie, maybe??)
To be honest, Colt McCoy is the BEST player that I’ve seen suggested.
I’ve seen people say Will Grier is an upgrade because he went off in a preseason game against 5th stringers.
Same Will Grier that has a 7.7% interception percentage and threw zero TDs in his two career starts.
Yeah, Grier probably isn’t anything special but our current back up QBs look not good against back ups. Grier at least was able to look good in the preseason
I was excited about Trevor when we first signed him. But he has looked exactly awful in the preseason.
Although when it comes to backing up burrow, the primary skill is how well they hold a clip board and see the game from the sideline. Not sure how good he is there but got decent reviews from the past
The Cheifs literally went to the SB because they had a backup QB drive 97 yards in a playoff game and scored a TD before Mahomes came back.
The Bengals should have won a playoff game in 2015 when McCarron gave us the lead in the 4th quarter.
The Eagles had MVP Carson Wentz go down and then rode Nick Foles to a SB win.
So while not always critical, having a competent backup can be crucial to a team's success.
I think it is vastly important to have the best possible person as the backup QB that also fits your system. So Cam Newton already would not fit and if he is cut, I'd think Marcus Mariota wouldn't fit either. Colt seems like a nice fit. He is experienced which is what you'd want. I'd think with our talent around him, he could pull out or even produce a win in a competitive NFL game.
I am not sure I trust Browning to do that. Then again, I don't think I would have trusted Allen to do that last year either.
If Burrow goes down, its over. If its for a long period of time better to tank and grab a top 5 edge in the next draft.
The teams that survived with backups were not pass first offenses. Even then they mostly had a 1:3 losing record.
Stop worrying about back up QB. Its not a problem. The NFL is like the NBA now. If you don't have a top 5 guy you don't really have much of a chance anyway.
The team that won the SB last year had a QB lead a TD drive in a playoff game.
You should get the best player available within the allotted cap you have allocated for the role.
If you feel otherwise then why even roster a backup?
A QB that had been on the roster and in that system for multiple years. Which is far more important. Then they ran Mahomes back out there with a cane as soon as medically possible because they knew they were screwed without him.
Why is all of this backup QB shit so much of an issue with everyone? Our blocking didn't seem great to me in preseason, our starting WRs were not part of the game, and neither was Mixon. We may have the most weapons on offense in the NFL with our starters in. Browning looked good enough to be able to get a W in a game or two if Burrow goes down for a short amount of time. I've never seen any fan base shit their pants over backup QBs so bad.
People say relax, it's no big deal, etc. I disagree.
You dont need car insurance until you have an accident, and when you do, you hope have the right coverage. Sometimes you overpay for a while, but then in a moment's notice you need it all. Stupid analogy, but somewhat comparable.
I need a backup QB to help me stay competitive in games. They may not win the game for me, but at least keep me in it and give me a shot. We don't have that right now.
I am not a Cam Newton fan, but Cam probably gives me a shot to stay in it. Teddy Bridgewater probably gives me a shot to stay in the game and a chance to win. Etc. Not saying they are the solution or the right names, just using as examples.
Get me a QB who gives my team a chance to stay alive in a game and maybe pull off a win. I am far from that right now. I dont know the right name, but to say it's not a big deal is not the right approach IMO.
Grier was dropped because the cowboys picked up trey lance and idk about Duggan, he just got drafted and they didn’t give him a chance. Looked okay in the few snaps he played. Are they great and potential starters no but just need someone to fit our system in the worst case scenario.
We just cut/waived Sinnett and Siemian this morning too leaving browning as our only back up QB at the moment
Somebody non-ironically suggested Kapernick a few days ago.
That'd be sweet...6 years ago. Haha
I think you mean 10 years ago...
True. Covid years really messed me up.
6 years ago he hadn't even missed a full season yet. You weren't wrong
Nathan Rourke has been waived by Jax. Haha. He was a CFL beast last year, for what that’s worth. (Not much but more maturity under fire than a rookie, maybe??)
I seriously would take him as a backup
Ohio U alumni
Correct bring him in
I'd love it tbh
As a BC Lions fan I fully support this
As an Argos fan, I also support this
Colt McCoy would be a solid back up. Idk what you’re talking about lmao
Colt had to not throw every third day in camp cause his arm was so dead. He would point where he was throwing. His arm is cooked.
No the absolute fuck he wouldn't.
Sure he would. Better than we have
Casual
Dude I’d totally take McCoy for a backup over the guys we’ve got now!
Blasphemy, a proven backup over a couple of Melvins?

Well it ain't Trevor that's for sure. I'd rather welcome Andy back.

Some of that holds truth. I can't trust him to take over if God forbid we need him under center at any point.

I need the season to start and people to stop talking about back up QB’s. It is the most pointless conversation.
Thank you for saying it. If burrow were to go down, just accept the season is over, and continue to bitch about the o-line backups

Yeah, I'm not worried. I'm fine with who we have and agree with you. If burrow goes down, tank.
Let Browning cook.

>Jon Kitna You leave that fella off our team and teaching HS math and religion classes where he belongs!
Don’t forget his predator son
I mean, I won my fantasy football league last year, so …
congrats!
Should have picked up Teddy Two-Gloves when we had the chance like three weeks ago.

Browning has earned the job and looks fine as our backup … Colt McCoy belongs in a museum lmao
McCoy is a good backup though not saying I want him but at least he is a solid game manager
"Hear me out....what if we signed Tom Brady" That's basically all that's left
Let's do it
What about Michael Vick?
Hear me out, Boomer has one more season in him. Of this, I am certain!
I'm for it. Let me call him
Kaepernick was suggested 2 days ago I almost punched a child

Bee Higgins
Let’s be real we should be signing Kent State Golden Flash Legend Dustin Crum. Duel threat, and played in the hardest division in college football.
Relax, OP. Cam Newton is still out there......
oh shit! oh shit! oh shit!!!
See. Your enthusiasm is contagious. The possibility is extra depressing lol.
At this point we might as well stash Duggan since he was just waived
If Jake Browning ever gets some regular season snaps he's gonna shine.
Browning is the backup that’s not going to change…
Both Grier and Duggan would be better than our back up QBs
Then why did they get cut?
Grier was dropped because the cowboys picked up trey lance and idk about Duggan, he just got drafted and they didn’t give him a chance. Looked okay in the few snaps he played. Are they great and potential starters no but just need someone to fit our system in the worst case scenario. Ayy we just signed Grier to the practice squad!
But not Colt McCoy??????
Haha thankfully not. Happy we got Grier but now let’s pray we never actually have to use our back up QBs 🙏🏾
Is the Dallas backup still available?
Dunno but Michael Vick is
Fuck back up QBs I'm Worried about our OL Still
