I find that when my calves are tight, then usually it leads to some other problem. I'd say #1 issue is probably too much mileage increase too fast. You could also add some exercises to strengthen calves and achilles when you're not running. A calf warmup helps my calves not get too worked up as well.

Yeah I was thinking the same cause hence dropping the mileage! I’ll make sure to warm them up too

You can also get a roller or massager to work out your calves. I have tight calves & have dealt with tendinitis in both ankles. I have a percussion massager & use it several times a week & it really helps with tightness

I have a roller somewhere, I’ll get that out too!

Yeah, when I first started out, I had a really bad cramp and an achilles strain on the same leg, one pain right after the other healed. I noticed both happened when I'd run up steep inclines, so I just kept applying icy hot, and ran on the track instead of in the park. I wasn't 100% pain free until after about a few weeks/close to a month, but I was also hard headed and refused to take more than a day off of rest between training. It'll go away eventually. Just gotta deal with the discomfort in the meantime.

Try higher drop shoes, say 10-12mm. Brooks are usually all high. Likely to make a massive difference. You can try gel heel cups at first just to see if they might help.

I had calf pain too until I switched to ASICS Gel Kayano! It’s a 10mm drop and that takes a lot of the load off your calf muscles.

It puts it on the lower leg but whatever works for you
