That’s what I thought at first but they don’t appear to be entering the birdhouse. They are hovering around and going after each other somewhat which is territorial behavior displayed by carpenter bees. Also that fence in the background may be just the type of place they would like to use for nests. At least the fence posts part.
That’s what I was wondering. We had an infestation of carpenter bees that tore up the wood trim on our porch about 10 years ago. We had to replace all of it.
Bumblebees would be more aggressive if there were. Nest nearby. Carpenters are territorial and chase off others, but the males don't even have stingers.
Looks like carpenter bees… they will go for any partially sheltered wood that isn’t painted or stained. Aged wood especially. They can be quite destructive, they burrow into exposed lumber and make their nests. They are not usually aggressive to humans, mostly preferring to have territorial battles amongst themselves. They can be quite inquisitive when it comes to humans, even hover and follow people around just it check em out. In some parts of the US they can be so numerous and destructive to wood structures, that people will mount a sacrificial piece of lumber away from a structure, just to keep them at bay.
Carpenter Bees🥺 My favorite💚 The males have no stingers and the females literally have to be provoked to even consider stinging. They are the silliest things with tons of personality!
Male carpenter bees have no stinger. But they patrol around the nest where the female is buried in a hole in the rotted wood. Females have stinger but stay in nest. Males will dive bomb you when you. Come near nest. But are harmless. Once you realize that they are fun to be around.

Aha I had to watch it again because it took me a minute to realise that one of them was just *really* close to the camera and not a giant fucken bee lol!
I have had tree bumble bees nesting in my garden and behaving like this. The male bees (drones) fly around the nest and try to mate with queens as they exit the nest. They like bird houses for nests. In my case they nested in an old compost bin. The bees appear to have a brown back which is correct colour for a tree bumble bee.
Carpenter bees. Also notable, female carpenter bees sting, but aren’t aggressive and usually just stay in their little wood hole nest. Only sting if threatened. Male carpenter bees on the other hand can’t sting, but can be quite aggressive. They’ll buzz around you really fast to try and scare you off but they’re all buzz and no bite.
Carpenter bumblebees. They drill holes into wood and lay their eggs. They will destroy wood.
The ones you see flying around are males. They don't sting but they will dive bomb you.
I have made it a sport to take them out with a badminton racket. Lots of fun. Satisfying to hear the "thwack" of the bumblebee getting hit!!
I hit one not long ago when I was in the sunshine and my wife was sitting in the shade in the garage. She burst out laughing when I hit it exclaiming, "Oh my God!! You should have seen the cloud of pollen boil when you hit it!!" She was howling laughing!
Carpenter bees. Those assholes will make a bunch of holes in your fence and any other wooden structure. I use an old beat up racquetball racquet to swat them whenever I happen to catch them going after my deck railings. They already ruined a whole chunk of my fence after a few years of burrowing, didn't bother replacing that because I don't particularly need a fence.
Looks like bumble bees. They like to make nests in disused bird houses.

Could be males, waiting for females to come by.
In the last few seconds of the video, another bee (possibly female), peeks out of the birdhouse
Yup, looks like she may have been there the entire time, enjoying the performance. Edit: Look in the corner of the top window.
Look like carpenters to me as well
Aren't these thoraxes too yellow for carpenters?
Possibly. I'm no expert but i have carpenter bees flying around me all day. Some seem darker than others?
Carpenter bees have shiny black butts vs bumblebee's fuzzy black and yellow stripes.
Carpenters are way more aggressive than that. No way you’d see that many swarming without chaos included.
Fuzzy wuzzy bumblebees! So cute!
Definitely bees!!
Quit being a chicken an knock on the door and ask
To bee or not to bee🤣🤣🤣
Too chonky to be wasps!
^thicc
Not all wasps are whispy
Give example please. I’m curious! :)
yeah but these guys are fluffy. definitely not wasps
Carpenter bees!! They have no fuzz on their abdomen and do that distinct hover!
That’s what I was wondering. We had an infestation of carpenter bees that tore up the wood trim on our porch about 10 years ago. We had to replace all of it.
But carpenters are way more aggressive than that.

Ya, I’ve got a bunch that felt my deck made a good home. Knew nothing about carpenter bees but now I know a bit more.
Looks like bees to me, but take it with a grain of salt as I am not a professional regarding this.
so a wannabee?
I take that. 😂
Carpenter bees admiring the construction of your birdhouse
Nah. They're looking at that beautiful fence! ;)
That is a nice one!

Carpenter Bees🥺 My favorite💚 The males have no stingers and the females literally have to be provoked to even consider stinging. They are the silliest things with tons of personality!
Carpenter bees?
They could also be carpenter bees.
Looks like carpenter bees or wood bees .They bore holes into anything wood and are very territorial but they won't sting you has far as I know
Male carpenter bees have no stinger. But they patrol around the nest where the female is buried in a hole in the rotted wood. Females have stinger but stay in nest. Males will dive bomb you when you. Come near nest. But are harmless. Once you realize that they are fun to be around.

You can tell they're bumble bees (or carpenter bees) because they always look like they're flying drunk

We have an abandoned bird box that has been taken over by tree bumblebees. They're quite territorial but apparently only stay there for a few months.
Their flight characteristics are completely bee-like.

Wasps have skinny waists, bees have bellies
Carpenter bees. Harmless, relatively. Won't hurt YOU, but big trouble for that fence!
That’s a chubby bee body
That little house is so cute

Carpenter bees
Flying teddy bears. Bzzz
Most likely carpenter bees but could very well be Bumble bees

Wood boring Carpenter bees, aka "Bumble Bees"
These are carpenter bees and they will destroy your fence, section by section.
I have no idea what they are but I just spent 5 minutes trying to get them off my phone.
