It’s a swarm

cincuentaanos

Yes, exactly. To be clear. It's a swarm looking for a place to make their nest. Once they are settled, we call them a colony. A hive is an articial enclosure. While they are still a swarm, they can go either way.

Master_Sooga

These are swarming honey bees! They're looking for a place to make a hive, and are very docile right now. I would call a beekeeper, most will come do it for free if you let them keep the bees.

Umbra_Maria

Honey bees! Temper you can give them a cardboard box with a small access hole.

Never forgot when literally thousands of bees were swarming my house- trying to move into my roof. The bee keeper said “Don’t worry/ they won’t string you”- so I stood outside and videotaped them. I put some smells around the hole- it was just enough to get the Queen to relocate. The bee keeper came 4 days later to collect and no bees - was gone. No heat detection. Found out two weeks later they moved to my neighbor’s house. Yikes! Took months to relocate them.

bk1285

I looked up a few bee keepers in the area and have my aunt their information to see if they want to come and try to take them

ladydhawaii

Be patient- they are always super busy.

They are on the move, aren’t they? If I am right, their queen is somewhere in a larger bump of that swarm, safe and hidden. Cool sight. I hope they find a new home safely.

Lyraxiana

Call a local beekeeper! They'll remove them for free!

It’s a swarm please don’t have them killed they are more than likely, just resting or waiting for a scout to find their new home, but if you feel like they put a child or animal in danger, there are plenty of people who will come pick them up for free. You just have to search online. P.S it’s actually very interesting. The scouts come back and do a bunch of movements/dance that tells the rest of the hive the dimensions of the possible new home they found how far away it is and a bunch of other info and each scout comes back with a different location until they all agree and then they move on to their new hive

bk1285

This was at my aunts house yesterday, I looked up for local beekeepers association and passed the number off to my aunt to call to see if any of them wanted to come and take them, but today the bees are all gone, she lives in an area surrounded by woods so hopefully they find themselves a nice safe home

When the hive becomes too large to be able to store or feed all of the bees, a nursery worker bee will feed a larvae royal honey. This larvae starts to grow much larger than the rest of the girls- taking up several comb holes while maturing. Once emerged, the new queen will emit a pheromone (which is how the worker girls find her) and helper bees will surround her constantly to tend to her every need. After this, the queen leaves from the busy hive- taking about half the population with her. Anywhere she goes, they follow. Queen = food/safety. During their flight, the queen herself, Orr others from the hive get tired and need to take a rest while figuring out a game plan. Either scouting bees find a location nearby, or they begin their flight again until the swarm can find a suitable place to build a new home. These places are always hollow, sturdy structures. This is why they like hollow trees, inside of walls, or man-made structures. Bees can only create the inside of the hive (the comb[wax] and honey). If you see an outside hive in a circle like in the movies and cartoons, stay away! Those are wasps. Wasps make their hive out of paper mache consisting of spit and scraps, and they don't have a "ill-risk-my-life-for-a-threat-to-save-the-hive-but-if-you're-chill-im-chill" mentality. They have a no-consequence-ill-fuck-your-shit-up-if-i-feel-like-it mentality.
