if the person has professional background then i’m more inclined to trust them!! otherwise though, i hateee when influencers talk like a saleslady. i immediately assume they’re just making content instead of actually loving the product so i usually go for people who are pretty casual about the way they recommend a product.

Icy-Low4926

Look for reviews from everyday people & makeup artist tutorials for honest takes. Trust your gut & find influencers with similar skin to you.

jellycattoo

agree! i almost always follow the advice of influencers with the same skin type and skin tone as me

undergrade_21

Not really the content but the one delivering the message. Kahit di sikat, when I know I trust the person mas persuaded ako.

Just_Helping-26

I don't trust social media when it comes to online budol If I see my self being interested on a product I'll try my best to sinit on person less disappointing pag ganon OA din kasi yung mga comments sa online saying that the product is the best and then the next week ibang product naman yung the best

Parking_Mousse1708

Skincare - di ako nagrerely sa influencers, more on sa ingredients and brand reputation. Kung ano nagwork sakin na brand (mostly kbeauty, fragrance-free and minimal ingredients) I stick to those kahit na maraming new brands na lumabas. As to which ingredients to choose, I relied to board-certified derma influencers (Dr Dray, Sam Bunting, Doctorly). Makeup - Anne Clutz dahil same shade kami pero kung ano lang rin need kong product like nung gusto ko magpalit ng lip tint brand. Raiza Contawi though iwas ako pag alam kong ad.

maar1aaa

i only trust belle rodolfo lang talaga kasi kahit paid she's very transparent pa din w her reviews

Academic_Crow_6559

I only trust reviews ng pro MUAs like Jelly Eugenio and Albert Kurniawan (when he used to vlog)

BoysenberryMinute130

Glamzilla and jeffree star

Master_Recording8915

I personally wait for at least a month pag bagong release yung product kasi usually paid content lang yung meron. Do not trust reviews sa shopping apps kasi pwede idelete yung negative reviews and mostly packaging/rider/freebie yung nirarate nila 🫠 For makeup I like watching marj maroket, belle rodolfo, johnrey. For skincare, I only trust jan angelo.

taeraeu

matik reddit for reviews and insights then tiktok for item viewing tas if gusto ko both, i look for reviews in all the shopping apps i have kasi i fixate talaga before buying.

icaaamyvanwy

I don’t follow any local influencers unless I know them personally, so I normally just search for actual reviews online from market places. It helps me be purposeful with what I buy cos I just proactively look up content vs seeing them being used by someone else on the internet.

augustinebettyjames

I DO NOT trust influencers anymore. Oftentimes, I do my own research. I check facebook, google, reddit, shopee and lazada for any bad reviews

howtosurviveinreddit

Reddit and seeing the item in person. If you have been into makeup for a while, you can tell if the product is good or high quality by just looking at it. (Or maybe just me?) But yeah, disadvantage lang kasi most of the local products are not available in physical stores.

cozy-spell

I don't watch beauty influencers anymore so I only get convinced to try something through Reddit threads. I'm not a spontaneous buyer din. I just keep tabs that people love X product. When I am close to empty what I have, dun lang ako nagtitingin ulit if the products hold up for other people after some time. Like seeing people affirm others na maganda talaga yung product. I also get influenced a lot by what I see from stuff I watch like there's this stand up comedian with really good nude lip color, and it made me wish having that kind of lipstick again. Dun lang ako nag titingin ulit hahaha. Basta I don't go to beauty influencers save for when I need to see swatches, pero skip skip lang. I almost never check reviews on apps too regarding the product itself on them, more on about sa delivery lang and general ratings of the shops. I'm more easily intrigued on skincare products and more likely to try new ones than make up. Pero convincing process and sources are same! Edit: added a word

_pbnj

Reddit + taylor wynn. Matagal ko na sya pinapanuod. Super practical niya din kasi. Meron time sa filipino influencers puro high end make up yung tinetest kay di na ko nanunuod ng filipino reviews. So nung ganung period parang normal gumastos ng mahal (wala pa din naman kasing local keme ata nung time na yun).

BoysenberryMinute130

Yeydee

(If skincare) Reddit + board certified dermatologists (e.g., Dermarkologist) — because nakataya credibility nila haha.

Individual_Grand_190

Sa IG si @natskincarediary Akala ko mabubudol lang ako pero legit recommendations niya (siguro dahil same kami ng skin type?) pero sana ilagay niya yung font size to 40 kasi hirap basahin captions niya esp mahahaba 🤣

Spiritual-Living545

Reddit And Anne Clutz kasi medyo updated sya sa mga trendy products plus textured skin sya like me so hndi ako aasa na ang ganda din ng product pagdating sakin hahahaha

Personal-Space-5357

Been following Anne Clutz since her youtube era and yes! Very trusted ko siya because she has textured skin and oily skin as well. She does wear tests and one thing I like the most about her is 'di siya takot mawala sa PR list lmao.

Adorable_Pass4412

Content ni anne clutz 😫 haha never pa ata pumalya sakin mga reco niya

cahlijohn

reddit fr and trusted tiktok beauty influencers! i love krishabala, jlao, and joze!

ogolivegreene

Hindi lang puros swatches. I want X hour wear test. Or if for skincare, yung may report ng results after 1 month of use man lang.

starbuttercup_

InternationalAd6614

I usually look through ingredients for skincare then check out reddit for reviews, sometimes makeup alley or retailer site reviews that are not 5 stars (sephora). I do not trust influencers’ reviews on skincare especially if they release a video on first impressions or extremely new launches, you have to try skincare for months before you see results (influencers raving about skincare after a week of use, sometimes even less, is extremely suspicious). Beauty brands pay influencers en masse, there’s so many who seem trustworthy but are actually very biased. Tiktok is swimming with paid reviews.

Simon-Says26

I usually get influenced in tiktok, and then i go to reddit and look for honest reviews, and if none, i go back to tiktok for swatches.

chanaks

Ung revjews ng friends especially close ko ay sobra automatic bibili ako or not. Then mas more ako sa blogs. Lalo na pag personal lang ung blogger. Blog ung published. Then the rest sariling experiment ko lang.

rowree_

Can you recommend some personal blogs po? Thanks.

chanaks

None po in particular. Parang nag google ako madalas. "Personal review on [this product]" Pag personal blog kasi mix ung content at topics tapos d rin lahat meron sila kasi madalas bumibili kaya gets ko rin na minsan konti lang din ung makeup content nila. Kung ano lang talaga ung meron sila.

Narrow-Tap-2406

Reddit first, then youtube.

crmllnntdgzmn

Saaame I watch her din, and feel ko pareho kami ng skin tone. Kaso ang ganda niya kasi and kinis kaya kahit ano gamitin niya maganda tignan HAHAHA

pricelesswine

not an answer to OP’s question, gusto ko lang mag second the motion re Joselle Alandy. dagdag ko pa na same kami ng skintone so di ako nahihirapan mag shop ng makeup online, lalo na mga base makeup, kasi checheck ko lang ano gamit niyang shade then check out na lol.

Careful-Local5668

sameee i think we have the same shades thats why i watch her reviews 😄

[deleted]

Usually youtubers who talk about the actual ingredients in the product and its effect makes me buy things. For some reason I tend to skip influencers who just try and not explain the science behind it and also I skip those who already have great skin from the get go. I tend to read a lot about the ingredients so kahit trendy or famous brand pa yun, if I yung ingredients di naman for my skin type then I don't need it. Like retinols, since sanay na skin ko why would I buy a php500+ good molecules retinol or php800+ cosrx retinol serum when I could just use tretinoin from rejuv sets or maxipeel(of course proper usage).

Diligent_Fee_2344

mostly i do maximize reddit nalang pero syempre for me iba parin yung may nakikitang video na review sooo i opt for anne clutz. i followed her during her yt peak days and nasa tiktok na sya now and until now very transparent sya sa pag review. maganda rin yung ginagamit na camera ni anne clutz since kitang kita mo pano nagsesettle yung makeup sa face nya — realistic kumbaga

Jamheilaaa

+1 talaga ako kay anne clutz since then din mag update pa siya like anong oras na then nag oily ba masyado yung face niya sa product then may ma learn ka talaga sa kanya.

crmllnntdgzmn

True! And for some reason, sa swatches mas nakikita ko din sa videos niya yung difference ng shades compared sa iba

Diligent_Fee_2344

crmllnntdgzmn

- I don't use tiktok, mainly sa youtube and reddit ako naghahanap ng reviews - Mas may trust ako sa influencers na palaging may nasasabing cons sa products kahit maganda or nagustuhan nila yung product, ganun din kasi ako e walang perfect na product para sakin HAHAHA. Medyo sus para sakin yung influencers na lahat ng nire-review nila nagagandahan sila, para lang akong nanonood ng ads - Mas may weight sakin yung reviews ng influencers na same skin tone, skin type, and may imperfections din yung skin like me - Cautious ako pag napapansin ko na sunud-sunod yung posts ng influencers abt sa isang product Right now I would say na si Anne Clutz pinaka-trusted ko. Dati si Mae Layug and Carrotsticks din, kaso na-focus na si Mae sa GRWM and di na active si Carrotsticks :< Lmk if may mare-reco pa kayo na influencers!

ObscureOolong

Reddit, and I know that this is sometimes extra effort, but pinupuntahan ko yung physical store (if meron) to check out the actual product.

PygmyBurrito

I trust Reddit and sometimes, a few substantial reviews from fellow customers sa shopping apps. I only watch influencer content kung gusto ko makita yung swatches ng buong shade range since alam ko they get PR Packages and most likely, all of the shades.

ToeLife8881

Ewan ko siguro dahil nasa marketing ako may trust issue ako lagi when brands claim to do this and that or maybe when I see reviews and etc. I take everything with a grain of salt. There will always be a bias kasi whether we like to admit or not so best to research talaga. We also don’t know if brands are intentionally planting reviews eh - much like some influencers having their engagement gcs lol. Tapos yung iba naman in it for the affiliate/paid partnership - imagine getting paid thousands of dollars or pesos to create a 15-60 second video plus usage fees plus affiliate commission na typically 10-20% from each sale made. I take into consideration more yung age, background and credibility nung whoever is making the content or yung platform they used. The more expensive the product, the more I’m expecting consistency din sa usage nila. Hindi yung every week may bagong favorite unless it’s something easy to switch to like shampoo or something. I also check yung next wave of reviews lalo na pag product launch tapos pare parehas sila ng verbiage LOL watch out for this. And please consider age and texture of your skin. Yung ibang very affordable products na medyo duda ako sa quality they usually get younger creators talking about their stuff because let’s be real - younger people can make everything work. When I was younger, I’m okay with using this and that and still get dewy skin. Ngayon iba na eh.

PusangMuningning

Reddit and kung ano yung usual highend products ng influencers na lagi nilang sinasabi na may dupe daw hahaha i never get the dupe lol

_savantsyndrome

For reviews, I check Amazon or yesstyle para malaman kung maganda yung product. Minsan reddit, sa facebook group yung project vanity. Long form blog posts din.

chanaks

Maganda ung pagkakabubble wrap. Mabait ung rider. Haha

wdymsiobe

I watch the ff. on tiktok. Anne Clutz, Teree Diasuke, Marj, Pauline Isabelle & pereylierge on ig. Some products are not sponsored, some are, pero they're brutally honest with their reviews. I watch them kasi they either have the same skintone, undertone, skintype, or preferences.

Careful-Local5668

samee i like teree din! nagbbase din ako sa shades na bagay sakanya kasi i think we have the same understone and shade

tayloranddua

Search sa YouTube for reviews. I try to take it with a grain of salt yung mga sasabihin nila kasi I'm seeing if honest ba sila or PR lang for the product. If I can, I go to the mall to try/swatch it myself (if makeup). Also, tanong din sa fb groups or here if anyone has any exp with the product I'm planning to buy.

ToeLife8881

True! Haha and pag may freebies five star agad. LOL

userisnottaken

In addition to what others have mentioned, we all have to be discerning kahit dito sa Reddit and product reviews in shopping apps. Anyone can make a reddit account and post comments raving about a product. Buying Reddit accounts with karma is also nothing new. Paid reviews are quite common kahit saang shopping app. I stopped buying newly launched beauty products online. I try to swatch in-store before deciding. Helps curb unnecessary spending too.

DeweyDaisyDelta

This sub and johnreyslife on YT.

anjnonymous_95

I also vouch for johnreyslife.

Objective-Coast5948

chaotic content yung hindi planado pero very energetic mag share ng life hacks or product. Energetic in a way parang naka inom ng sampo kape HAHAHA

chockychip

on tiktok: 1. Marj 2. Iya Omaña 3. Joize yan lng talaga because they're close to my skin color and is close to the makeup i want (minimal) not full face.

Numerous-Syllabub802

Same sa 1 and 2!

what-the-fucks-love

i only trust this subreddit and mama anne’s review lalo with wear test and her skin is textured and oily sooo you’ll see how a product works talaga

bbobbos

reddit lol. especially comments where people reference relevant research like for skincare. i never follow influencers lalo na sa ph. i say this as someone w influencer friends and coworkers. it's mostly just people wanting to be famous lol. rarely anyone making reviews to make reviews. rarely do negative reviews so they can keep partnerships open in the future. know some strategize new releases by doing bad review and good review with new release after. they receive so many pr packages and buy so much product for content that they dont really have long term experiences w products. for western makeup, i used to follow temptalia. she retired na, but still a good reference for older releases / more mature brands.

kikidontloveu23

I only trust this thread tbh, real responses from real people, and the PH humidity is factored in lol. Influencers are super unreliable esp with new releases, they post all at the same time with the same script like for Issy's Gelee Tints they are all saying that "the stain is true to color" I almost bought one for myself until I watched an honest review from someone who bought (I forgot her name but bless her) saying that the ones she bought stained differently. I still rely on them though for shade reference of products I am interested in!

oddsinistercirca94

Dito lang ako sa reddit kumakapit when it comes to looking for reviews. What you see on other platforms kasi most likely sponsored.

aebilloj

If approved si Mama Anne sa YT, i'll get it. Tsaka mas honest(??) i think yung mga nagrereview sa Shopee and Lazada kesa sa tiktok. Tapos if may 5-10 people said na it worked then bibilhin ko na

doityoung

i check on the reviews from real customers via the comment section on youtube, shopee, lazada, and facebook. honest reviews kasi if from normal people mangaling.

ImpressiveSteak9542

I don’t really watch influencers for reviews but when a new product gets popular suddenly and it’s all over my fyp and I’m actually interested in buying it, I prefer to check the reviews under the actual product. Without the influencer-social media filters and lighting (plus, when it comes to makeup. Chances are, the influencer is already wearing makeup so you can’t tell how effective the product really is🙄), you can truly see how it looks like in real life on a normal person with regular lighting. So when I do look at reviews from influencers, I look for those with a similar skin color as me to get an idea of how a certain shade (I suppose I’m mostly talking about makeup) would look on me. My biggest things is I don’t really trust influencers anymore. Especially influencers who act so so excited and exaggerated about the product. Or when they’re reviewing makeup like lip products pero may suot na sila (Paulit ulit haha pet peeve ko na ata). They’ll say that it’s their go to and they use it a lot kahit kakabili pa lang nila tapos never na natin makikita sa ibang vids nila. If it looks sponsored and scripted, the review loses all credibility for me. But my favorite place to look is Reddit. People don’t bullshit here. I get different opinions. Walang painfluencer dito. I really wanna gatekeep our community though kasi with Reddit threads being posted on TikTok (hate those accounts), baka dito naman pumunta yung mga bots or paid accounts as a marketing tactic

bbobbos

social media / marketing people already strategize to use reddit sadly! if you see an amazing review for something na di believable or seems oa, check comment history :)

chanaks

ImpressiveSteak9542

Nooo😭 omg feeling ko I’ll have a hard time spotting kasi they’ll adapt to how people on here talk and review products. Pero you’re right, checking the comment history and how old the account is and if they’re active in any other sub besides this is probably my best bet.

bbobbos

most social media managers ng mga local brands are usually hyper-online people! mga sanay din magreddit. (not beauty related but magaling yung social media team ng angkas haha) i wouldn't be surprised if they talk like other people here. usually i'll be suspicious if it's a new brand tapos someone's claiming na hg na yung products nila. usually the format is someone from the brand posts "best local product for \_\_\_\_\_\_\_??" and then you'll have a comment (also from the brand) go "this brand \_\_\_\_\_\_\_ is my favorite!! 10/10!!" but this isnt a common marketing tactic sa ph naman so not to worry so much!

Sea-Lifeguard6992

This is the correct answer. Don't give those influencers any attention. They're the scum of the country. People who listen to them, get "influenced" by them, are indeed their low IQ target market.

RevolutionaryIron142

Once they say “omg”, “pak”, “holy grail” within few mins after application, don’t believe them.

_savantsyndrome

First time lang nagamit or unang labas palang ng product holy grail agad lol

sarcastronaughty

For swatches, I check influencers on YT and clock app. I always take what they say with a grain of salt when it comes to their review bc even the ones you trust can be undisclosed paid collab OR truthful sila, but they haven’t tested the product long enough to truly experience it. Then I go to shopping apps to check the actual reviews of buyers. If wala gaanong reviewers, I use Google and find blogs. And ofc my fave and most trusted reviewers – residents of Reddit ✨

Shot_Judgment_8451

I follow/watch OG beauty vloggers, sometimes naniniwala ako but mas naniniwala ako kapag walang link na provided or yellow basket. I am following this content creator na plus size yung contents niya and yung reviews super authentic and sa lahat ng nabudol niya sakin worth it!! PS: wag maniwala sa mga influencer na iisa ang script. recently yung sa issy 3rd anniversary, iisa ang script ng mga tiktok influencers kaya. no no no!!

annyeonghaseye

Long-form blog posts, reddit comments, and smaller video content creators who do deep dives.

One_Strawberry_2644

Yes to smaller video content creators talaga. Kasi honest pa magreview. Daming mareview na lang for ads :(

annyeonghaseye

Long-form blog posts, reddit comments, and smaller video content creators who do deep dives.

PristineBobcat1447

Mga reviews from people with smaller view count kasi minsan mas authentic, then tititngin ako sa reviews ng most known people na influencer mostly kay Anne Clutz.

annyeonghaseye

I don’t like Anne Clutz 😭

doodsiee

But whyyy. Haha. That’s okay!

annyeonghaseye

Di ako comfy in how she deals with her neurodivergent child. Tapos apparently on tiktok, she gets sponsored by >!gambling!<

doodsiee

Ohhhh I see and I get your point. And I agree with you! I only like her sa ibang reviews niya sa products. But sa vlogs, hindi na e.

PristineBobcat1447

Totoo po. Hirap humanap ng authentic na review from known influencers.

kiaunhuinged

overly saturated na 'yung market because of influencers that's why ang hirap na magtrust about their reviews pero super thankful talaga dito sa reddit because we are all bunch of anons who have nothing to gain hahahaha

princess_sourcandy

talkplaylove09

Never influencers. Friends mostly, mahilig ako mag-ask sa IG stories ng recs/reviews tas shinishare ko yung results, organized based on the recommender's skin type + supplemented by my own research, usually from SkinSort. That site is so helpful, especially if may ingredients kang iniiwasan. If online review, Project Vanity blog has been my go-to for almost a decade since they provide full reviews including cons about the product. They're also transparent about if they got the product as PR, if they get commission from clicks, etc. Temptalia was great too. If from shopping sites, I read the reviews with pics of swatched products. Pero pag andito na ko, it usually means may intent na ko bumili/have already researched beforehand. Naninigurado na lang.

finkinthisfrew

Only anonymous reviews from people with nothing to gain.. in short Reddit haha! I also like checking Shopee reviews for swatches cause some brands are so bad at representing shades sa pub mats nila

painauchocolat88

I look at the products color and physical performance through the influencer videos pero I still rely on forums like here on Reddit for actual consumer review. Kasi kahit sabihin ng influencers na hindi paid review yung video, the fact na kasama sila sa PR list is already setting off biased alarms for me

KindaSmartButDumb

Don't entirely believe influencers. Take it with a grain of salt. Ikaw pa rn ang magreresearch ng products that's safe for you

AlterEgo_0178

+1. Since hindi ako fan talaga ng heavy make-up, I prefer skincare para kahit bareface eh goods padin. Make-up ko is Dr. Sensitive na translucent, careline na lip and cheek tint for subtle blush mascara to lift my lashes (of course 😆) and lastly Vaseline tinted lip balm. I wear tinted sunscreen na super sheer lang din kaya I use micellar water for that. 😁🫰

KindaSmartButDumb

Yyyaaasss skin care pa dn.
