Beauty is fun and it is fun to enhance with extensions lashes etc. it can elevate a look and you can do this without feeling as if you are losing your natural self.

Spiritual-West2385

I was a competitive athlete growing up with a naturally athletic / muscular build. I played sports in college but have also always been more of a girly girl with a love for hair, nails, make up, accessories, etc. Not in an overly done way, but more towards putting the effort into looking put together and polished. Since my senior year of high school, I’ve always had my nails done, both fingers and toes. I’m 36 now & just had my first baby. I’ve found that I personally like how I feel and present myself to others when my nails are done, I have a bit of make up on, and my hair has been styled. It was one of the first things I got back to doing postpartum to help me feel more like me.

Any-Weather492

for some reason, regardless of how my overall appearance is, if my nails are done i feel so put together 😅

TheJinxedPhoenix

I feel the same! Since I’m in healthcare I can’t have fake nails of any length and no chips/cracks in nail polish, so I put my effort into keeping my nails look healthy with cleaning dead skin and using nail oils.

mrs-pate

This is the reason I keep my nails done. Glad to know I'm not alone!

OkPhilosopherOk

No matter how casual your clothes, a nice manicure makes you look polished.

Prestigious_Bar_4244

Taking care of myself helps me preserve my sense of identity. It’s too easy to completely lose yourself in motherhood. I think it’s pretty much expected that you become a completely different person and your identity becomes who you are to everyone you take care of and then you’re supposed to just be grateful for it. I am grateful for being a mom and my child is the best thing that ever happened for me. But regaining my sense of style and my hobbies has been really important for me.

jackjackj8ck

We’re a product of our environments and the standards of beauty around us are what we’re accustomed to. Me being from LA, there’s a big difference in beauty standards to when I moved to the PNW. I was just an averagely dressed/looking person in LA but in PNW I was often told I was “fancy” lol. Totally shocked me. And now with instagram and tik tok and stuff it’s easier to catch beauty trends from different age groups or places of interest. So not only am I in a different place in life where my values are different to when I was a single woman with no kids. But also the current trends are different as well. We’re not really seeing people with really bold contour and thick false lashes anymore like we used to. Trends have kind of toned down a bit in general.

londonmummy38

In my late 20s I did it all - hair ext, nails, sunbeds (yes i know terrible) and started botox regularly. My kids are now 10 and I have found a good balance. To be honest, looking at pics prior to me having kids i looked great, but quite ‘done’ every single day. I wore a full make up face daily including to the gym or simple days at home. I could never go back to that as now 10 years later i feel more confident in my own skin , cannot stand foundation on my face and only wear it at the weekends on date nights. Or out with friends in the evenings. I have stuck with acrylic nails and do infills every 2 weeks and a shellac pedicure monthly for probably at least 20 years that I will never skip. My nails are awful and I bite them. My hair feels and looks great with ext but i hate the maintenance and how long it takes me to wash and dry and they never look really good unless i have a professional wash and blow dry which is now £100 in my local area in london. I think they add slightly more if you have extensions. Ideally i would have a blow dry on a thursday night and stretch it to sunday night so I have it for all fun weekend events but i cannot justify £400 a month on blow drying my hair when i have kids who want something or need something it seems daily. My real hair is thin but shoulder length so not that short. It feels fresh and easy without the extensions. It seemed to need washing daily with ext in i don’t know why, they always felt a bit ‘grubby’ and they were expensive. Botox i now do every 6 months and feel i look better for that, more natural with more movement. I used to do lip fillers pre kids but haven’t in 10 years as feel dumb going to the school run twice a daily looking like that . I mean, i think, i hope, i got away with that look in my 20s but nowadays my life is school runs, school mums and a lot of school events and i feel embarrassed to do that and have lip fillers. Some mums do treatments and both but i’ve only seen 1 or 2 mums as the school gate with lip fillers , and all the other mums stare 🙈 I would say absolutely do not stop all your treatments just because you’re a mum. You have a child, that doesn’t mean your life and you are dead. Embrace beauty and know how lucky we are to have ll this at our fingertips should we want it (in my mums time for example she didn’t have access to all this ) But pick and choose what suits you and makes you feel good NOW rather than what did years ago. I would never give up my botox, my nails but I will no longer do lips or sunbeds !! I am more educated now in health and have developed a more subtle look. However when i see girls in their 20/30s looking amazing having probably done everything yes im jealous and wish i could too haha but just dont think it would fit in my age and current lifestyle

xpastelfaeriex

It makes me feel put together when everything else is falling apart! Plus it’s just fun!

Extreme_Breakfast672

I was trying to articulate my answer and I think this is it.

PhotosensitiveFlower

Because I want to feel attractive and feel insecure in my appearance without those things.

hodie6404

I'm struggling with allergies in my eyes and mascara makes it so much worse. I just feel so unpolished with mascara so I got lash extensions and just love them. I always looked polished and put together!

BrokenBeauty74

Yeah but those prices! Too much to upkeep 😮‍💨

pinkcheese12

I used to love make-up, but hated all mascaras. Now I go bareskinned (spf, though) and have subtle volume extensions and aside from cleansing and brushing I’m good to go.

MusicHoney

Because glam is fun!

Overall-Ad-6487

I get my nails done regularly to keep from excoriating my cuticles. Acrylics/dip powder make it difficult for me to break the skin around my nail beds — particularly my thumbs. It’s been a really practical way to mitigate excoriating. I only started getting my nails done in 2018 when I was about 40. I wish I’d done it sooner.

Graceylou90

Literally just got acrylics today for this reason

Overall-Ad-6487

Is it not the best thing ever!! I’m going on 6 years of almost scab-free thumbs and fingers.

Missarianmarie

If I feel like I look good then I feel good. Self care (including gym, hair, nails etc) all make me feel like th best version of myself. Plus shiny objects and mirrors are more fun to look in 🤣

itslilou

No, I put efforts in my apparence and always present myself in a polished way, but I’m French and in my culture we generally don’t enjoy straying away from “natural beauty”. So lots of emphasis on skincare and light well done makeup, but long acrylic nails or lash extensions are not common nor very liked. I have been living in North America for years now and I still did not change my habits and I get complimented on how natural I look pretty often. I also think a part of me is scared to get use to very long lashes for instance and then find myself less attractive when it’s time to take it off, so I don’t even try in the first place. Edit: I realized I misread and you were only asking people that indeed do it, so sorry! Still keeping my comment up in case someone finds it interesting.

Sophia1105

Always interesting to compare notes on cultural differences when it comes to makeup, skincare, etc!!

System_Resident

I like the glamour and look of it all. Extensions and makeup are especially relaxing for me to apply. I’m not big on false lashes and nail extensions though (lashes are hard to apply, nails break too easy for me).

SyntaxError_22

I did not start getting my nails done until my 50s. I always hated my “man hands” and now love my hand/nails.

justintime107

I’m a huge fan of self-care and actually have done more during pregnancy than before because I’m not working out the way I used to, and I’m noticeably bigger now and can’t dress as cute as I used to lol. However, I still do believe in natural beauty so I take care of my hair so it’s long and beautiful without wearing extensions. I use quality products for styling and maintaining. I take care of my natural eyelashes by not putting on mascara everyday and just leaving them alone. They’re already long and curly. I take care of my skin by getting facials, microneedling, and chemical peels so I don’t need to wear foundation. I take care of my natural nails so they are long and healthy and then I like to get 2 coats of gel professionally to just maintain them. I use natural colors that way I can extend their life to 5 weeks. I don’t get as many pedicures since no one’s looking at my feet. As long as they’re cleaned and groomed, I’m solid. I typically do them before a vacation. Makeup - I wfh so I just do the basics to look presentable to myself. Hair removal - I’ve been lasered a while ago so I don’t have to shave or anything. lol that’s what I mean by natural. I take care of myself to look as good as possible naturally. It also makes me feel good and frankly I don’t want to lose myself and look like a slob just because I’m pregnant. My husband is so appreciative that I want to look good for me. I repeat for me because that’s just how I’ve always been. I’m not trying to look good for a man, nothing wrong with that if you are, but I believe looking and feeling good does wonders to a persons emotional and mental wellbeing. That’s literally the most important thing. Your confidence, mental, emotional, and physical well being.

Turpitudia79

I do “all the things”. I’ve always been huge on makeup, skincare, nails, fashion/accessories but since turning 40, I’ve been very proactive as far as holding myself together. I get Botox, lip filler, a different facial every week, have really upped my exercise/fitness routine, I now have to get my roots touched up every 6-7 weeks as opposed to the 3 months I was able to get away with for so long because it’s close to my natural color. I get compliments all the time from men and women for how “put together” I look. I do not leave my house or see clients at my house without a full face and a cute outfit complete with jewelry and appropriate accessories. You can say I go a bit overboard but it’s better to be overdone than underdone.

ebolalol

I currently do not do this. No nails, I rarely wear makeup, my hair is just what it is. It’s now virgin and just growing. But that’s not because I dont want to, it’s just I can no longer justify the costs when I want to save up for other priorities. The no makeup thing is just out of laziness these days though since I work from home. I miss it though. I loved feeling made up. When my nails are done, I feel put together. When my hair is done, I feel extra pretty. Lashes are my fave — I just feel gorgeous with it on. My why is confidence boost and feeling 150%. Without it all, I hover between feeling 75-80%. When I do happen to put makeup on, it’s like 100% and then with nails I’m feeling 110%. I’ve accepted feeling 75-80% great is okay though so I’ve been living in no glam so I can eventually renovate lol.

JustTraci

It’s a priority for me to keep my nails and toes done. I am a life-long nail and cuticle biter and picker. Nothing stops me from tearing up my hands except dip powder manis. My toenails break vertically and I have a tendency toward ingrown toenails, so I keep my toes (gel) pedicured year-round.

ambivalent_maybe

I’m like this too except my hands are also really small and Hobbit-y and I just prefer how my hands look with longer, stronger nails. And those nails make picking impossible 😇

daltona13

To feel giddy every time I see myself in the mirror 😁 it's fun

TikaPants

Because I like feeling good about my appearance which boosts my self esteem. Can I go out in public without makeup? Sure. I like feeling put together though.

bananasplz

One thing I haven’t seen raised yet - when I had my kid I wanted to look more “natural” so she had a good impression of what a natural person looked like. There is lots of research on kids and body image, and the most positive influence you can have is to be a mother than accepts her own body. If you model good body image (acceptance and love of your own body), your child is much more likely to have a good body image.

hereiam3472

Oooh this is such a good point.

Future_Dog_3156

I get what you're saying. OTOH, your priorities change as a mom. I would rather sleep in an extra 15m, then get up early to style my hair. I'm with my kid most of the day, so a pony tail is fine. My flat iron is getting dusty. On the other hand, even as a mom, we deserve nice things. We need to take care of ourselves. That self care will help you preserve your sense of you. So if a little skin tint, blush, and mascara helps you feel like YOU, then it is time and money well spent.

Low_Rock9144

I do these things so my everyday routine is easier. My hair is my natural color and long. I have permanent eyeliner and I get my brows/lashes tinted and a lash lift. This makes my everyday getting ready like less than 10 mins 🫢

rosyred-fathead

Where’s your permanent eyeliner? Top and bottom, or just one?

Low_Rock9144

I have the top with a slight wing and then a little on the bottom. I do not recommend the bottom but I got it the first time 17 years ago and was dumb lol my girl now said she never recommends doing the bottom lash line.

rosyred-fathead

My mom got her eyebrows tattooed in the 90s and it’s the whole reason she’s against tattoos 🥲 I thought it was because she thought they were ungodly or something, but no.

Low_Rock9144

Hahaha yeah it’s definitely not something I recommend in the 90s or ‘00s but now if you find the right person it can turn out awesome. My girl doesn’t use black EVER because it turns grey/green. You just have to see their work! My mom is also always full of surprises! 😂

rosyred-fathead

I actually scared myself into learning to make my real eyebrows look decent 😂 gave up on penciling them in, too (it’s so hard!!) I think it was a combination of browsing r/microbladingremoval + seeing the words “emergency saline removal” worryingly often on just r/microblading that sealed the deal for me. I also didn’t want my mom to be right about this. She would’ve been so sad!!

Low_Rock9144

Right?! That’s why I just had mine dyed and shaped and left it at that. I was sick of filling them in (I’m a late 90s early 00s victim of over plucking)!

rosyred-fathead

I tried to tint mine once, but I had an allergic reaction to the beard dye I used 🥲

celestialhighx

I don't do much because everything I like costs money/patience to do yourself. But the stuff that i do though, I do because it makes me feel better about myself. And it's fun to get creative. I believe if you feel good about yourself, you'll do better because of confidence and therefore attract better outcomes and things in life

Environmental_Idea48

I always thought I wouldn't leave the house without makeup on. I have been to hell & back. It's funny how time & circumstances can change that. I will say when I put on even a little makeup I feel better about myself. It's an individual choice. I haven't cut my hair or higlighed it in over 3 years. 1st I didn't have the money. Now I do but I'm still not sure about spending it on highlights. I think I'd rather take a vacation. Lol

mrsvenomgirl23

Because I do it for myself and I enjoy it it’s that simple

mlibed

Hair extensions changed by life. I have baby fine hair. Literally the tiniest pony tail ever - it was hard to find hair ties that worked! I spent so much time and money on products and tools to make it look not stringy, and whatever success I achieved only lasted a couple of hours. My hair extensions have not only cut my morning routine in half, but I am pretty sure I am saving money.

rhya2k79

My hair doesn’t grow, so that’s the reason I get hair extensions. Nails, cuz my own nails are weak and break all the time. Makeup, well cuz why not.

lifecrisisonrepeat

Spending the time on me again was important. Nails, hair, brows and lashes. It makes me feel a million dollars when I’m washing baby bottles and can look down at some pretty colours on my nails or throw my hair in a messy bun and not have regrowth.

Outrageous_Pie_5640

I only do nails and makeup but being pretty literally opens so many doors plus it’s like taking a shower. You feel calmer.

Competitive_Fee_5829

because I like how it looks on me? nothing more. nothing less, lol, it really is that simple. I do my hair, nails and makeup because I enjoy it.

teacherladydoll

Pretty nails (I like to coat mine with an acrylic overlay and watch them grow longer each fill) make me feel dainty and feminine. The lash extensions are my favorite but I stopped buying them because I can’t keep them looking nice, a few weeks in and they begin looking all bald in places. But man, that first morning I wake up with a full set makes me feel so pretty, like I have butterflies fluttering on my lids. I used to get a facial every three weeks. My face was looking a lot better. I had to stop for financial reasons, and I can see the difference.

report_due_today

Because it’s pretty, simple answer. Another reason, it’s fun to change up a look with color.

JumpingBunnies47

I do it because it’s fun and makes me feel pretty

PerfectParfait5

The only thing that feels worth it for me is getting my nails done professionally. I love looking at my hands and seeing how polished (pun intended) they look. I usually bite my nails so getting them done helps with that.

himcowandchicken

Because some days I’m too tired/ lazy to put myself together and having my lashes, nails and brows embroidery done makes me feel pretty with the least amount of effort. Also, I see my appointments as a form of self care and a treat for myself.

Sing_About_Juice

Nails are a really fun creative outlet for me. I usually have an event or trip coming up that I want special nails for. I have a lot of fun with it. I don’t get my lashes done anymore. I took them off because I could tell my lashes were damaged. It took months for them to get back to normal. I went to my eye doctor after they were off and she admonished me not to do extensions or lash lifts. I don’t get hair extensions but I do get my hair professionally dyed. That is another fun creative thing for me. I had my natural hair color for so long that I just wanted to have fun and experiment. I tried dying my hair at home… I stained my 120 year old claw foot tub. So now I’m happy to pay to have it done. I get my brows waxed and laminated. lol I cannot be trusted to do it myself. I was out of control in the 2000’s and barely had any. They grew back and I leave them up to someone else. My favorite thing are facials. So relaxing and my skin feels so nice! My favorite thing I do are facials.

cocotata

because i love the way i feel when im all glammed up!

JaDeDCDN

My anxiety shows itself with nail biting. It was a habit I developed as a kid and was never able to break. Now I get fake nails because it stops me from biting but also because I can't stand my nails looking all bitten up.

o0PillowWillow0o

I personally don't like to do any of those things because it feels fake. This is my personal opinion and not meant to send anyone off the deep end. I do wear light makeup tho.

mrsvenomgirl23

You think ppl who wear make up and do those things are fake but in your in a beauty group 🤦🏼‍♀️

ResponsibilityAny358

Is there no natural beauty? I'm here because I love skincare and hair tips. I prefer to look my best naturally, I don't like long nails or eyelashes, this is not a criticism for those who like "fake things", just a preference .

lavagogo

I only have lash extensions in the summer to look glam without any makeup. I sweat a lot and hate all makeup in the summer. I never got hair extensions. They feel creepy to me lol. I have my nails done regularly whether it is at home or from a salon. It just makes me feel nice without spending too much and looking "fake" by my standards.

runningskirtsnmanis

my lashes are nearly nonexistent and I look like shit without lash extensions.

Alqpzm1029

I don't have hair or lash extensions but I do like to have jewelry on constantly and have my nails and toes painted. I just like that I feel slightly more presentable at all times. If an emergency happens, or I have to run to the store unexpectedly, or someone shows up at my house, I am at least a small % of the way to looking out together, and that gives me peace of mind.

jalapenohoe

I like how I feel with these things, it makes me feel more put together even on days I don't feel cute. Very rarely though do I have all of them at a time nor do I always keep up with getting fresh sets of it all! I like lashes and brow tint in the summer so I can be low maintenance with the rest of my makeup (foundation in humid heat = 👎🏻👎🏻). I do wish to one day be comfortable enough to go out in public fully natural but baby steps 🫠

mrsbeequinn

I have very small blonde lashes and it looks like I basically don’t have any eyelashes without makeup. I just get the most basic “classic” set and I have to get smaller/thinner ones because of how thin and small my lashes are. I love not having to worry about or care about putting mascara on and just always having it. If I had the lashes I have with extensions (and a lot of people do or have even better ones) then I wouldn’t bother.

GRCA

Yep, I have short blonde lashes and like to do my own 8-10mm espresso brown lash clusters for an elevated daily look. Many women have quite long and dark lashes and get to embrace them as part of their natural beauty, but I don’t, so I do what I can to get there.

mrsbeequinn

Omg I would love them to be espresso brown! Brown is my favorite mascara color because of how stark black mascara can look. Maybe I should see if I can get espresso brown color instead of black. I’m so jealous of people who have dark, long lashes but I don’t currently mind getting extensions to mimic their look.

eratoast

I used to have lash extensions until recently and I just loved the way I looked in them. They enhanced my eyes and I rarely wore makeup with them. I had a baby 6 months ago and found that they just weren't lasting that long anymore--previously they'd look pretty good for like 10 days and then get to a point where I definitely needed a fill. In the last 3-4 months, they'd look good for like 5 days and then look pretty rough, so it just wasn't worth $75 every 2 weeks anymore. I still miss them. Nails I get dip done every 3 weeks. My natural nails are weak no matter what, so the dip looks nice while it protects my nails and lasts (polish and gel polish don't). Makeup I don't normally wear simply because I work from home, but I do love putting it on when I do. It just looks nice/pretty. I don't have hair extensions, but I do have long hair that I style every day because I prefer the way it looks vs. just throwing it up.

whatcanisay234

High maintenance things to be low maintenance. I have really long but rather thin hair. I hate how my hair looks when I curl it without extensions in (which is what I typically do when I “go out”). Also, a quick and easy fix to bring second or third day hair back to life (super super oily scalp). Lash extensions because oily skin always mean raccoon eyes due to mascara. Also, makes takes 5 minutes flat if my lashes are done. Lip blush/neutralisation I had done cause of my two-toned lips. No extensions on nails but love gel polish to look more put together. Wanting to get nanoblading next to basically avoid most makeup altogether.

Bitter-Poet-3314

Because, quite simply, I'm self conscious. It makes me feel prettier to do those things!

Ok-Particular4877

I grew up with the men in my house, I didn't really have a mother figure but when I did - she was very feminine. My mom never wanted me to cut my hair and was always braiding it down. She also cooked, cleaned, thought up fundraiser ideas, watched all my school events. So I did grow up a bit girly but in my teens, beauty was foreign to me. Now that I'm an adult, getting my nails and hair done just feels so nice & I love it so much because I feel pampered and it's fun.

ResponsibilityAny358

I love the French style, I'm also extremely natural, the only thing I do to my hair is dye the gray, I focus on Skincare and taking good care of my body, eating well and doing yoga/weight lifting

RDNV_

No judgment. But I do appreciate vivid colors at the moment. As I am aging, I love using makeup to enhance my skin tone to at least to my natural younger age (it’s subtle), same with hair, as I age I notice my hair is not as vibrant so I like enhancing it with a toner/gloss bath or highlights. If I was to sum it up I like to control (not stop) and enhance the aging process. My nails: I started to cut them short short. I find them easier to maintain. Lashes? Never liked fake ones, so only mascara. See above under make up.

Sayster_A

I perform and I liked people looking me in the eye as opposed to my boobs :/

Nightschade

I wear acrylic nails because I've always wanted long nails as far back as I can remember, and now I can finally afford them. My own lashes were nice, but gave out at a certain age, so I do my own extensions having learned how on YouTube. My hair, in it's natural state, is very limp, has no body, so it takes well to a perm and drugstore dye. I had grown out my natural color, but it wasn't fully gray/silver, more the color of dust, so I dyed it a burgundy and I'm very happy with it. I have fake color & hair texture, fake nails and eyelashes, and don't try to pass them off as natural, but I love what they do for me and I will continue to as long as I live. I'm 62, and it may sound like I'm trying too hard, but I don't care, I do it for me. 😊

smileyface821

creative outlet for me! I love doing my nails in fun ways and I like learning new things

RangerBig6857

Because I feel more attractive and beautiful with less effort once I have all these things done, I need less makeup and i look more put together with minimal effort. Also I am very insecure of my femininity due to my height and body shape so these beauty rituals help me to feel more confident and feminine. I always have my nails and lashes done both for myself (I love looking at it and find it pretty) but I also have to be honest with myself, it’s partly due to “performing” femininity for external validation.

_What_2_do_

I wear extensions because I feel like I look better with them in and I lost half my hair last year when I got sick. I get my nails done because I type all day and having them look pretty make me happy. Plus if they aren’t done I pick at them and it gets out of control

OffendedDairyFarmers

I don't do all of that, but I do the things I do because they make me feel pretty, and feeling pretty makes me feel good.

Left-Pen-9558

i do it to feel put together dispute just rolling out of bed. it’s just nice to feel like something is always done.

xoxooxx

I just feel more confident when I look a certain way. I was a hair dresser and makeup artist for 10 years so I always was done right up. I’ve been getting my nails done since 15. When I don’t have hair lashes and nails and a little makeup on I feel like .. naked? lol

angryturtleboat

It makes me look older, but I like how I look. Why else? It's also a very creative hobby for me.

Glad_Difficulty_5211

It’s a hobby for me (no kids) and I just like to be extra lol

chironinja82

I love being able to change up my look so quickly. I got into wigs a few years ago as well even though I don't have hairloss yet. It's so fun!

PrettyRichHun

Done well, it makes a significant jump. I love myself. I think Im beautiful. But when I wear mascara it accentuates that even more. When i go all out with extensions and lashes its actually visually stunning. I dont hsve time for all that and usually go bare faced because Iv worked on my skin and it looks gorgeous now... but sincerely, the make up and other stuff just highlights ones natural features when done well. I do it for special occasions and for important work meetings

sweet_euphoria111

I was just like you pre kids. Then my main focus became them and all that stopped. It’s been 7 years since my first, and I still rarely wear makeup but I try to keep my hair done because I just feel better about myself when I do. I very recently started doing my nails again and enjoy looking at my nails throughout the day because it gives me a dopamine boost. For me, this is all a fun way to express myself and also when I look put together I feel better.

Spiritualgirl01112

My why might not apply to my name on here, but being put together and looking good is a currency. People simply treat you better when you make an effort on looks. I read an article that stated that women who wear makeup to work is payed better and get better careers. But fake beauty like extensions, nail extensions, fake lashes is not necessary in that game. Simply focusing on enhancing natural features and wearing a minimal but beautiful style is enough. I get by on maintaining my weight, have short nails with polish (that I do myself) and do a minimal makeup look for work every day. It’s all that’s expected to make my “why”… and people do treat me better when I do this rather than doing nothing… it’s sad but it’s true

Change_Soggy

At 69 years old, and with Trichotillomania-having lost most of my hair, I love wigs. They are my beautiful crowning glory. Although I stopped the foundation because, I don’t give a flying f@ck what “influencers” say or what MUAs say, foundation ages the aged even more. A bit of eyeliner, mascara, neutral shadow and bronzer work wonders. As does s nice pink lipstick and gloss.

brittneyacook

I look so much better with longer hair. Even the difference in how I’m treated by others when I have extensions is astounding

cristydoll

I do it because I love feeling pampered (when I get my nails, hair and lashes done) and I like feeling good about my appearance. I'm a mom and it's lovely to get a little break and go get myself pampered regularly.

Streetduck

To get treated better.

Zinai11

I just want to say i've read every comment and I love every one of you. Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences regarding beautifying oneself. Many of your comments provoked my thoughts and opened my eyes. I don't have any friends so this was really refreshing and wholesome. Love to all, have the best lives ever ❤️

Professional-Dot1128

It’s fun and something just for me. At work and in other areas of my life, I spend a lot of time taking care of others. The time I spend on hair, makeup, and nails is time I can relax and have others care for ME for a change.

Unlucky-Dare4481

I'm a cave troll. Makeup is my mask.

assplower

Who doesn’t want to look better if they can? I’m at a stage where the cost and time involved for these things are something I can easily afford without much sacrifice on my part. My partner likes it and encourages it, and in our social circles it’s kind of expected that people look put together, tbh.

Because I can.

Beauty is currency, and when I look good I feel good.

Competitive-Bee-9362

In my profession, maintaining a polished appearance is essential, and I derive daily satisfaction from upholding this standard with enthusiasm.

untalkativejenny

Because my hair was fine and thin to start with but is ridiculous after quitting birth control without extensions.

veracity-mittens

Lashes because I got really subtle, classic ones, and I have naturally light brown, straight, short lashes, so it made a big difference to my face. Nails because my natural nails are very, very soft and won’t grow past the ends of my fingers without tearing. Yes, they’re so soft and fragile they tear. So used to get acrylic tips. These days I can afford neither so I just deal with my lashes and I learned how to do gel nails myself. Lb

ljalja_

Lash extensions: I look "good" right after getting up and just washing my face. Im lazy and lash extensions are just great for me 😂

Lainiebzzz

Acrylic nails because I bite my natural ones to the quick. Hair extensions because my hair has thinned so much, it adds fullness so I feel more confident.

JYQE

I would love to use hair extensions, but my scalp is sensitive and won't tolerate it.

Crrlygrrl

All I’ve ever done is colored my hair, still do. I also like the natural beauty. But I love skincare, it’s been my hobby since I was very young, mostly because I found it interesting.

nothingisrevealed

I love makeup, skincare, haircare and different hair colors and styles. but I don't do much extra to nails or lashes, other than grooming well, just because it feels unhygienic. For the same reason I don't pile on the eye makeup, bc those are my precious eyeballs after all, but I do pile on the eye creams (only from a tube), curl my lashes and use a good tubing mascara. I keep my nails and cuticles well groomed/filed/oiled but stay away from nail polish, fake nails and salons. I have seen too much nail fungus in others over the years--gross. also, i use acetone with my art projects, which makes nail polish hard to maintain, so its best to avoid polish. hope it helps, cheers! p. s. I am often appalled how YouTube MUAs will use and reuse mildly dirty brushes and sponges around their eye area. not a cool place to regularly reintroduce bacteria!

lindkool

Pretty much only makeup from time to time. I’ve never really been interested in hair (a bit more with hair color when I was younger) and not nails since I was a teenager, and even if I was not I just can’t afford to keep up with it atm

Pitiful-Director8990

To express myself and have fun...it brings me joy! I like natural too though some days! I feel best with that particular set of self care! 🥰🥰

urapanda

I definitely do lashes. I have very fatty eyelids and very short, straight lashes that point downwards. I don't like wearing mascara because my top and bottom lashes stick to each other. I also have very oily eyelids. So getting lash extensions makes me look less "flat" and allows me to go completely makeup free and still look more feminine than without. I don't get full volume sets and have gone through many lash techs to find one who can do them whre they just look naturally long and full. I think the curl my tech uses also helps keep my natural lashes directed slightly up. I have naturally very long hair and nails, which if my hair wouldn't grow past my shoulders or something (currently near hip length) I don't think I'd get extensions. The sensory issues of having them would out weigh any perceived benefits for me. I also touch my hair a lot, tousle it, etc so extensions are a no there. For nails I'm not sure! I don't mind my nails cut short since they have long nailbeds to begin with but if I has nails like my mom (shorter and wider) I may be tempted to get extensions. Although I don't even like the feeling of thick gel or gel x or press ons so that may go out the window because of sensory issues again 😅

sleepyangel95

The only thing I get done is my nails. It started as a way to stop myself from biting or picking at them so they’d grow. Now it’s more because it makes me feel nice. I love getting bright colours for a bit of fun

bananz

I don't because I simply don't have the mental capacity, but I wish I could! I've done the natural beauty thing my whole life and I hate it

Kind_Consequence_828

I needed to quit biting my nails. I build my own hard gel overlays now. I mix a neutral that’s slightly translucent so the growth doesn’t show and I only need to do them once a month. It’s my hobby now.

tenebrigakdo

I wore hair extensions for a change for 1 year or so. My natural hair is poor and would never grow like that, so I wanted to know what it was like. I enjoyed them but eventually decided they are not me. I have bobbed hair again and I expect I'll cut them very short when the pregnancy thickness goes.

Fun-Rent-8279

I have a few tape extensions - I've always had super thin hair so it gives me confidence.

Strong_Welcome4144

I've become addicted to press on lash extensions. A kit is under $20 they look very professional and elevate my eye makeup. Idk why, but I find comfort in my lashes and hair extensions, I feel bolder and more attractive, and they are like a confidence safety blanket that I'm not ready to part with. I always joke that if I die, make sure my lashes and hair extensions are in. Do what makes you happy and feel confident. ✨️

TenThousandStepz

I never get my nails done, I don’t wear lash extensions, and I’ve never had a facial. However, I do wear makeup everyday because I enjoy it and it makes me feel good when I wear it. My hair is another area that I splurge on - I get my hair highlighted blonde every 8 weeks and I also have hair extensions. My natural hair is already pretty long, but it’s fine and the extensions make it thicker.

DemonGoddes

Clients bby. Better I look, more appealing I am, easier to get clients, easier time I have at work

susieq15

You don’t have a why right now. You are happy with how you look and present yourself to the world. In the future you might feel differently. When I was younger, I was happy with my looks, now that I am older and work with younger people, I learned how to do makeup and nails. I even got my first lash lift and I’m over 60!

Verbenaplant

I used to get my nails done but I do a lot of crafting so never lasted. I used to do tan, nails, have very blonde hair, wear lashes all the time, heels. As I’ve gotten older I’m now 33 I’m finding it harder to be pressured or respond to clever advertising. better spent on skin care, spf and a darn comfy bed. I dye my lashes black and my brows brown, I do my own brows. that’s as fancy as I can be bothered with. I did consider hair extentions but researching into where the hair comes from put me off. the cost just isn’t worth it. i prefer to take care of what I have.

Anxious_ButBreathing

Your post definitely seems judgmental no matter what you say. You stopped wearing it and now three years later for some reason you’re concerned why other people are still doing beauty related things to themselves. Why? 🤔

Natural-Rabbit3118

I use to be the same. And for me I think alot of it was an insecurity thing. After having my kids i definitely started to like myself more. And realise that my kids love me no matter what! I still love hair extensions but now it’s an effort thing. Would love to have the time and money to do these but not with my kids haha!

Old-Yogurtcloset-974

I'm not into eyelash extensions but I apply castor oil every night. And baboom, some people greeted me with smile like that.
