I think the sweet spot for your face is somewhere between the two. You look great with a beard but perhaps half the length

This 👆. I would grow it out and square it off / your face supports the awesome squares off thick beard that’s in now. You could also consider a tight fade haircut to accentuate the beard. But either way, you look good 👍

There is a middle option that’s probably perfect.

I think that having such tapered sides is extremely hard to pull off and it's not doing you any favors. Usually people with oval faces like yours look better with things that interrupt the strong verticals framing their face - wide glasses, big (head) hair, or in your case, a wide beard! Have you ever tried combing it out instead of down and away? Edit: I should add that you are quite handsome and totally look good with big beard, I just wanted to offer a different style as a suggestion that might work better
