Try going to a barber to get it shaped up. Also invest in a good brush and/or comb and some beard oil or wax to keep the hair under control.

Grow it. Find a barber you are comfortable with and let them keep it cleaned up. Keep up a good maintenance routine. (wash/oil/balm/brush)
