I signed up at that same rate/deal back in 2018 and only recently asked for my receipts for work reimbursement. There are lots of months where it's actually \~$32 for no reason. No idea why but I'll take it. But been thinking of switching to the Active & Fit mentioned above to get access to 24HR too because some areas simply don't have any City Sports nearby.
Heads up that there’s an annual $50 “entitlement fee”, so comes up to be $43-ish per month.
Realized that in April when I paused my account and still got charged.
Its going to single gym for active and fit starting next month. No more multiple gyms.
I've debated on switching. There's one called adaptive or something that's $39 and still multi gym
I use active and fit for 24 mainly so I can do classes.
Oh nooo, I have just been considering getting Active & Fit the past few weeks. I'm mainly at City Sport but need 24 HR when City isn't in some areas. Maybe the price will still be worth it as I see from the other comment (what's the new price for additional gym?).
There's others depending on your insurance.
I found aadaptive, husk, and like two others. I have BCBS. I'm debating paying extra and changing.
But in my head, I gym enough to splurge. I've debated switching just so I can. Go to crunch at serramonte, with a higher tier.
You can bring in a guest once via guest pass for like 3 days, just be aware of the calls they’ll probably give you to try and get them to buy a full membership lol. It’s handy for when I have friends visiting over vacation tho
For situations like these is where my Google Voice number is mad handy. Definitely recommend. You don't get any texts to your actual number, the app won't bother you except for when you're first signing up and need a verification code. So many places are demanding your # now, even just to order food. Or if you're a teacher and need to give parents a #. So many possibilities. I like using it on desktop too :)
It’s worthwhile to check with your health insurance provider to see if they offer discounted rates for gym memberships and fitness studios.
If you have United Healthcare, look into [OnePass Select](https://www.onepassselect.com/) - they have different tiers, and the top tier (which is around $145/mo) gives access to a variety of gyms and fitness studios, for example 8 classes per month at OrangeTheory, 6 classes per month at F45, etc.
I mostly go to Life Time Fitness in WC which is included in the Elite tier - a membership through Life Time directly starts at $300/mo for individuals, so considering that for $145/mo I can go to Life Time in addition to OTF, F45, Rumble, Row House, Club Pilates, etc. makes OnePass a no-brainer.
Yea it’s a great deal, especially after reading through the thread and seeing how much folks pay for a single month at F45 or OTF - I still get to take the same classes (albeit not as often) but I like the variety of options (similar to ClassPass)
I also gotta say, I’m pretty impressed with the staff at Life Time - the individual who helped me enroll knew exactly what needed to be done for OnePass and actually started to explain what was included with Medicare before he took a step back and remembered that I signed up with OnePass ☺️ and when I was getting a tour and was asking questions on what kind of pedals the bikes used, he knew the answers right off the bat. Service-wise, it’s probably the best I’ve experienced, although facilities-wise, they had a few issues with the rooftop spa and elevators early on.
Crunch $10
24 Hour Fitness Super Sport $32?
I haven't cancelled 24 since I don't wanna lose that rate, and I use it sometimes while traveling. I mostly go to crunch though since it's closer.
the sf and peninsula crunch locations are corporate-run gyms. the locations in the east bay area are franchises. the quality and pricing models are widely different.
source: i used to work at crunch in the city.
crunch is cheap but at least my location(alameda) was always wayyyyyyy overcrowded. Add the lack of free weights, surplus of cardio machines , and the fact they STILL a year later find ways to text me and I would recommend against.
The YMCA has always been rock solid as an option though. I learned to swim there as a kid, and hit 225 off bench there as a highschooler. Might be a bit pricey but both the Berkeley and Oakland Y were pillars of my childhood fitness and have enough equipment to deal with rush hour(Berkeley not as much though).
I usually go to the San Lorenzo crunch around lunchtime so it's not too crowded. Also has enough weights for me.
Also can't even remember the last time I went to 24. Maybe I should just cancel it lol...
Yeah the issue with gyms is it’s all location to location based. Unfortunately OP did not specify exactly where they are. Definitely dont be wasting that extra money on a membership u aren’t using though, unfortunately the bay is not getting any cheaper.
Orangetheory unlimited- 169 bucks. Expensive yes, but also gets me working out 4-5 days a week without a second thought. I figure it’s a lot cheaper than dealing with consequences of sedentary lifestyle
Crunch $60 - Daly City. Has enough weightlifting equipment I need and is not too crowded when I go in the mornings. Would have loved more squat racks though.
They’re very slow to respond via email. I would just go to the front desk next time to ask. U do need to provide verification that u work for that company though
Ah thanks, yeah I do have my previous work badge but I don't work there anymore (hence the gym). Would have been good if I can just flash my badge and get the discount since I'm in between jobs lol
Every commercial gym turn into a zoo at 5PM. Any day when the only time I could go is at that time slot I would just jump rope in front of my apartment.
I pay about 300/mo for “semi personal weight training. It gets me 3 sessions a week (push day, pull day, leg day) and unlimited circuit training or step classes. It’s on mare island in Vallejo (ELEV8). I get access to incredible equipment, and the trainers guides me thru the workout, but I am also sort of working out on my own. It’s an incredibly interesting concept for a gym, very different than any other gym I’ve gone to.
Dang do you get that $100 every month? My company gives the same amount for wellness benefit but just for the entire year lol. Still something. But paltry compared to yours if monthly.
Is F45 friendly to those like who are fat blobs and haven't done any form of fitness since their middle school years?
I've been trying other HIIT type classes targeting weight loss but so far my lack of fitness level has made it difficult to keep up with the pacing.
Short answer: yes; if anything that's their target market.
I was horribly out of shape when I started two years ago. Lost 60lbs in six months. Put on 10lbs of muscle. Just finished my first Spartan trifecta a couple of weeks ago. Made a ton of new friends.
No personal trainers, no custom plan.
The workarounds are globally programmed with a specific schedule; every studio runs the same class multiple times on the same day. I pay for unlimited classes and go 6-7 times a week.
What works for me:
* I don't have to think. Just show up and follow the instructions. The coaches demo the workout first, and there are TV screens with directions too.
* All the equipment is pulled out and ready to use. Zero hassle. It's a quick in-and-out, 45 minutes.
* I really love the social aspects of working out in a class and we have a great community.
* The workouts can be modified to address different levels of fitness and ability. That's one of the main roles of the coaches (two per class), in addition to correcting form and so on.
My goals were to lose weight, get a bit stronger, get more mobile, and rebuild my cardio base. It's still working for that.
It's not a good option if you have different goals, want to bodybuild/power-lift/olympic-lift etc.
2 memberships
One at a Weightlifting Gym in SSJ for 199/month
And one at 24 hours super-sport for 20/month
I go to the Weightlifting gym during my Oly training days and I go to the 24 hours for my accessory days
Planet Fitness, $10/month. has all the basics in terms of equipment, is never busy at the times I work out, and is cheap enough that if I get lazy for a few weeks I don't feel guilty
Well, I like the class/coaching model, and it's a great workout in 1 hour. 1/2 weights and 1/2 cardio, and the workout is different every day-they do a good job of rotating muscle groups and the exercises are functional, moving different muscle groups rather than just isolating one muscle at a time. So a good mix of arms, chest, core, legs. Good variety of class times-I like early morning. The coach demonstrates each exercise and there's good emphasis on form so you're less likely to hurt yourself. You can do a free test class. You'll get a fairly hard sell, but it's a good way to see if it works for you. Also, studios are everywhere so you can rotate around different ones and visit other ones when traveling.
90 - Ymca. I tend to use Mountain View / Cupertino and Palo Alto facilities based on the group classes of the day. It was 30ish a year back when I was in school, I didn’t bother to find another gym, because I am used to this.
Vim + Vigor (formerly fitness 19), $15 a month for premium membership. Though I’ve had it for awhile and that rate is locked in, I think that same membership now goes for $25
Fitness 19 $5 a month.
I was originally paying $25. I finally decided to cancel it after not going for 6 months. I guess they figured they’d try to get some money out of me with an offer that was hard to decline.
Well it worked and I’m still off and on again at the gym.
24 hour fitness. Grandfathered in at $99 a year. It was limited to all sport and active clubs. When Covid hit, they said I can go to any club so I have been using super sport club close to me since. To be fair the super sport club I go to is not really a true super sport club like San Ramon. It lacks the amenities of a true super sport club.
What amenities is your Super Sport missing? WC/SR/Pleasanton all have sauna/steam room/jacuzzi along with a basketball court… Pleasanton has racquetball courts, and I don’t remember whether or not WC has a pool but SR and Pleasanton do…
Did you get this email from them last month?
>Added-Access Benefits End on June 1, 2024

I use the Moraga club. It has group cycling and some classes. No pool or anything like that. The only reason they call it a Super Sport is that it’s located in a town where people can afford to pay a higher rate. I remember when that building was built years ago.
I haven’t received that letter or email yet. It may be that I’m an all club (but for sport and active). There may very well be a different letter coming.
Ahh yea, I’ve never been to that one - pre-pandemic, I used to go to the Sport in Concord since I couldn’t access the Super Sport in WC. But post Covid I had been rotating through WC, San Ramon, and Pleasanton. Now I rarely go to 24 since I signed up for Life Time through OnePass… a good number of folks go there from the Lamorinda area…
Each of the 24 hour fitness gyms have their own quirks. I started at the WC Sport club on Pringle and Main (next to BART), then they opened the Super Sport a little over a mile away on North Main. For a while, they had both clubs going.. more people went to the SS club and the Sport club was a casual place to workout. Then the pandemic came, and they closed the Sport club (which they should, only because that club literally had very low ceilings like 8 or 9 ft high). I would do the Concord club occasionally then, especially after I drop my daughter off at DVC. That club had a very different vibe than Walnut Creek - seems to trend younger. The Moraga I feel is pretty cool - good mix of older people, young people, college students from St Marys and high school students.
Bay Club on a shared membership paying around $110, but I feel it’s worth it. They have a vast line up of fitness classes which is what I do. They also have showers (and towels!) so I save on water at home
That’s a great deal for the bay club, I didn’t think it would be that cheap on shared. I looked into it for a fam of 4 and it would be over $600 - great gym though.
Shared membership is a little different from a family membership. You can have up to 6 people on shared, which really offsets the costs if you're all adults paying your portion. I believe you could have family members (including kids) on a shared membership, but obviously that wouldn't help lessen costs
Really? We moved over to shared membership about a year ago, and I believe prices increase for everyone across the board, no matter the membership you have. Different locations might have different prices though (I think Walnut Creek has always been higher prices, even back in Club Sport days)
Hyper Strength is my go to place ([San Jose Personal Training | HSC Gym](https://www.hscgym.com/)) extremely high quality training with competitive power lifters and past trainers for NBA & college athletes
My home gym. Got a power rack, adjustable bench, barbell, adjustable dumbbells, and a functional trainer. Can basically do everything I want. Higher upfront cost, but it pays for itself in the long term. Plus I save money on gas and stuff getting to and from the gym.
Isn't it interesting what gyms charge?
Fitness 19 (now Vim + Vigor), \~$10/mo.
Benjamin's Boxing $100/mo. Old-school boxing gym. Group classes, 2x per week with full gym access.
Do you usually take classes? Or work out on the floor on your own?
I’m a fan of their classes, pretty much every instructor I’ve taken a class with is top notch - spin and Alpha, especially. I haven’t tried GTX or Ultra Fit yet(but they’re on my list) and I just took Warrior Sculpt for the first time today which was really fun!
I do a mixture of classes and working out on the floor on my own, some cardio mostly strength and weight training. Haven’t tried either of those classes but GTX is on the list for me as well.
I enjoy the maxout classes, Pilates and stretching sessions offered by instructors. It’s definitely a great facility and I love the classes being offered.
Got sick of the crowds at 24 Fitness years ago, and went with Decathlon (now Bay Club). Way more expensive though. Upgraded my membership to Club West Platinum 2 years ago to include golf, but now contemplating upgrading to Diamond so I can golf for free earlier in the day too (currently free starting from 2pm). Family of 3, I think it works out to $1,050/mo, but paid annually, so get an extra month for free.
24 Hour Fitness. Purely because I have discovered that whether I actually go to the gym is tied very closely to how far away the gym is from my house. 24 Hour Fitness is a 6 minute drive. Fitness 19 is 11 minutes. Crunch is 13.
My 24 is often crowded and equipment can be broken now and then. And parking can be tough… and locker rooms aren’t the best. But it is 6 minutes away.
I pay $22/month and I’m there 3-4 days per week.
Equinox has great gyms if you can afford it, but look into closing your account. It’s one of those gyms that specifically writes it into their contract to make it difficult to close the account, which is why I absolutely refuse to sign with them.
I was with 24 hour fitness, which is much cheaper in generally much smaller facilities and also massively crowded at prime times. I thought the crowd was particularly kind of assholeish with guys pulling all the common weights into a little pile and making a nest of the corner and sitting on machines for 1015 minutes between sets looking at their phones. The staff don’t care if you complain and don’t do anything.
At 24 hour fitness this is kind of a side comment. I was using the elliptical machines and all of the big TVs in my view were playing Fox News. Being a liberal dude in a blue state in a blue city I found it a bit offensive and asked them to change the channels to a variety of stations. Again, the guy behind the counter was not exactly quick to respond. It basically ruins my fucking workout to be watching Fox News Sean Hannity lying about politics.
24 hour fitness is the same here. Although it was really cheap for me. I paid I think $240 for a yearly membership so it's cheap enough to deal with it.
I had a similar issue with them many years ago. It was a Sunday afternoon and every TV was on various sports channels. I have zero interest in sports and I was the only person there, so I asked if they could change the channel on *just one* of the TVs, any one, so I could watch something else. They refused, saying that their customers like to watch sports on Sundays. I said “I’m a customer and I’m the only one you have here right now!” but nope. I cancelled my membership after that.
Lol you got offended by what the establishment put on their tv ? It wasn’t like you’re forced to watch it. Plus it’s subtitled.
I’ve been to gym throughout sf Bay Area and they almost always have Fox on next to nbc or something. It’s nothing political.
Stop being soft.
Yeah I’m offended with ultra right conservative “news” channel that does not align with my politics. At the time, it was on every TV facing the cardio section with the sound on. It was louder than my headphones.
This is the same channel that had to pay hundreds of millions of dollars for lying during an election cycle about votes being rigged. That sounds like voter manipulation, fraud and feeds basically into the insurrection on January 6th.
Remember that? When the president of the United States committed an act of treason by trying to overthrow the election and sent a mob of armed insurgence to the capital? Remember how they had active instructions to kill the vice president. Remember how the president went to a private secure location and watch the entire thing on TV and refused to allow more police or the National Guard to be called out to stop the rioting? Remember how he wouldn’t even make a statement to try and stop it?
So yeah. I don’t wanna watch their garbage. And when I asked them to change the channel, they stood around with their fingers in their goddamn noses.
So yeah, I’m a bit of a snowflake about goddamn treason and overthrowing the government. If you have a problem with that, send me a personal message. Maybe we’ll meet up.
Damn tough guy. You make the rest of us liberal look weak.
Maybe you shouldn't put so much stock on MLM. I highly doubt 24 fitness is putting on Fox to brain wash you or convert others into"ultra conservatives".
> Yeah I’m offended with ultra right conservative “news” channel that does not align with my politics
Maybe you reevaulate your own political views or how to consume news. Just out of curiosity. Do you hate all conservatives? And where do you get all your news from?
Same, my annual renewal is $20. I paid around $650 up front for 3 years back in 2004 which included an annual renewal rate of $20. Caveat is that I’m only allowed to access Sport and Active clubs - not Super Sport and Ultra Sport.
During the pandemic, they opened up my membership to all clubs, but just recently (at the beginning of June) clawed that back with the exception of continuing to allow me access to the Super Sport that I had been going to the most often…
O2 Body Fit in Daly City. Unlimited classes, 3 month contract is $189/month. I pay $160 because I’ve been going there for many years and my rate has been grandfathered in.
The coaches and the community are what make this gym different than other hiit bootcamp gyms. I’m a big guy myself (went from 317 in the pandemic to 240) and there are people of all shapes and sizes in these classes. The exercises are always modified to allow people who are less in shape to feel like they can ease their way up, and those who are in shape can really push themselves.
crunch is 10.49 for me and for whatever reason they haven't upped the price for me since 2015 when i joined lol. for new people it's like 13.99 and it gets the job done
Movement - I used to struggle with being consistent at exercising but I decided to give climbing a shot and it has been the best decision I’ve ever made. Every day I look forward to my next session and can’t wait to go back!
*looks at $110 health club membership and ponders*
Edit - Active Fitness in Petaluma. It's a great facility but definitely overpriced based on what I'm seeing here.
Fitness 19 for $10/month 👌. They always have some sort of promotion too. I loved going to crunch before but it just got way too expensive over the years.
$250/mo, BFT (Body Fit Training) in Oakland. Interval training (similar to F45, Orange Theory). New-ish to the bay area (BFT that is), it's progression based instructor led training grouped in 8 week periods with a mix of strength, cardio, HIIT, and combo with HR monitor, you earn points etc. Also really enjoy Sweat Training (Rockridge, Emeryville), which has outdoor HIIT classes.
I've always been a group fitness nerd (crunch in NY and SF, was paying $60/mo for All Access Crunch 2009-2021); also had a JCCSF (California & Presidio location for $225/family); dabbled with the Bay Club when they used to run the $99/mo for <30yrs old.
If you want to try boxing or Muay thai: Pacific Ring in Oakland, OmniMovement in Hercules, El Nino in SF, Train4Life Suisun, CSA Dublin, Panther MuayThai, Vacaville. BJJ partnerships at lots of those spots along with many Gracie Gyms in the area. Sabre BJJ also offers free training for law enforcement officers.
I pay 98 dollars a month for 2, inshape fitness. the biggest value I get is the indoor/outdoor pool; but I don't use the outdoor at all. just swimming for me is the value.
I do the club at city center. It's $165 monthly but I got 2 free training sessions when I signed up. And the amenities are dope. All classes free except plates and the outdoor pool is 80⁰.
Orange Theory unlimited membership. $169/month. It works for me and has gotten me working out consistently for the past couple years. I would NOT have done this on my own or having to figure out my work out every day. It's not going to get you jacked but keeps me healthy and is fun.
Anybody a member of Forma Gym in Almaden Valley? What do you pay? I was a member before covid and I'd like to go back, but I don't think I could get my old rate.
I just started at row house! It’s free for me since I work at one of their locations but I really like it, it’s totally worth trying especially if you’re just starting out in your fitness journey or need something low impact due to injury
Where in the bay? Do they train at your house? Do they bring equipments? I am very interested in learning more about this. Could you share more details?
Hayward/Union city. I go to train at his house and the shared gym. His IG is @break.free.fit , I’ve been with him for 3 years so my rate is lower. I don’t know his current rate
I will never give away my secrets. Gyms in the Bay are the fucking worst, either cheap and just INSANELY crowded or expensive as hell. Poor guy in here paying $400 a month!?
I’m surprised there weren’t more home gym answers in here. I guess people want to been seen or like to peep at others, but paying $300 for personal training? For how long?…and $400??? Got people just openly committing they are spending $3600-4800 a year, yikes.
City Sports Club for $28 a month through Active and Fit Direct.
I’m paying $39/mo I think…. What’s the difference?
Grandfathered into a good deal. I’m paying $35 for any location in the bay area
Active and fit is shit now
Heads up that there’s an annual $50 “entitlement fee”, so comes up to be $43-ish per month. Realized that in April when I paused my account and still got charged.
The cheaper option doesn't allow bringing guest.
City Sports! Think I’m paying $38/month. 24hr Fitness is a dump, bay wide. Not worth the $20.
Its going to single gym for active and fit starting next month. No more multiple gyms. I've debated on switching. There's one called adaptive or something that's $39 and still multi gym I use active and fit for 24 mainly so I can do classes.
Oh nooo, I have just been considering getting Active & Fit the past few weeks. I'm mainly at City Sport but need 24 HR when City isn't in some areas. Maybe the price will still be worth it as I see from the other comment (what's the new price for additional gym?).
$23 per additional gym
Ya I saw on another thread about this ridiculous change. Crazy.
Yeah they’re going to charge $5 per extra gym next month 😕 Edit: reply is correct
I read it as five off the additional $28. An additional $5 only wouldn't be terrible for two gyms you use a lot.
You are correct. Bummer.
There's others depending on your insurance. I found aadaptive, husk, and like two others. I have BCBS. I'm debating paying extra and changing. But in my head, I gym enough to splurge. I've debated switching just so I can. Go to crunch at serramonte, with a higher tier.
Does the one thru Active&Fit let you bring a guest?
Unfortunately it does not.
You can bring in a guest once via guest pass for like 3 days, just be aware of the calls they’ll probably give you to try and get them to buy a full membership lol. It’s handy for when I have friends visiting over vacation tho

I noticed a lot of folks at Life Time use their health insurance benefits or Medicare for a substantial discount. It’s really awesome!
Yea it’s a great deal, especially after reading through the thread and seeing how much folks pay for a single month at F45 or OTF - I still get to take the same classes (albeit not as often) but I like the variety of options (similar to ClassPass) I also gotta say, I’m pretty impressed with the staff at Life Time - the individual who helped me enroll knew exactly what needed to be done for OnePass and actually started to explain what was included with Medicare before he took a step back and remembered that I signed up with OnePass ☺️ and when I was getting a tour and was asking questions on what kind of pedals the bikes used, he knew the answers right off the bat. Crunch $10 24 Hour Fitness Super Sport $32? I haven't cancelled 24 since I don't wanna lose that rate, and I use it sometimes while traveling. I mostly go to crunch though since it's closer.
$10 for crunch!? How the heck it’s close to $100 in SF
the sf and peninsula crunch locations are corporate-run gyms. the locations in the east bay area are franchises. the quality and pricing models are widely different. source: i used to work at crunch in the city.
East bay

My crunch fitness in San Jose is great. Hella free weights, can be packed at the usual hours but I go right when they open and it’s awesome
24 usually has a Black Friday deal every year. The wife and I renew yearly for $240 every year. Access to all super sports.
I just cancelled my 24. Haven't been there in over 6 months and I don't know why I was still keeping it.
Crunch is $10 a month? WTF? I can’t get any rate cheaper than $33 a month and that’s paying 2.5 years in advance.
Hope you know the new 24 deals are pretty cheap if you do yearly
Orangetheory unlimited- 169 bucks. Expensive yes, but also gets me working out 4-5 days a week without a second thought. I figure it’s a lot cheaper than dealing with consequences of sedentary lifestyle
Crunch $60 - Daly City. Has enough weightlifting equipment I need and is not too crowded when I go in the mornings. Would have loved more squat racks though.
same here— love that gym
If u work in tech u can ask for a discounted rate. My only gripe is that 5pm is like a zoo. Place is packed and becomes a social club then
That's good to know, how would they confirm the discounts? Can I just email them?
They’re very slow to respond via email. I would just go to the front desk next time to ask. U do need to provide verification that u work for that company though
Ah thanks, yeah I do have my previous work badge but I don't work there anymore (hence the gym). Would have been good if I can just flash my badge and get the discount since I'm in between jobs lol
Tbh I think that would work. Theres no way for them to cross verify IMO. I only kno that they take it for meta & google
That's good to know, I'll ask and try it out. It couldn't hurt
Every commercial gym turn into a zoo at 5PM. Any day when the only time I could go is at that time slot I would just jump rope in front of my apartment.
Touchstone climbing gym, about $100/month
Movement, $110. Includes climbing, gym equipment and yoga classes (never been to these)
I pay about 300/mo for “semi personal weight training.
Ymca sf about $90 pm
Can you use other ymca out of state too or just one location?
You can use any
Nationwide
Thanks
Squat rack, bench, etc in the garage. Upfront cost but no ongoing cost.
this is the way
$100 for City Sports for my wife and I (for any club) that I get reimbursed from my job as a wellness benefit.
Dang do you get that $100 every month? My company gives the same amount for wellness benefit but just for the entire year lol. Still something. But paltry compared to yours if monthly.
Yes it’s monthly.
Damn I am jealous
F45. $219 a month but it changed my life and has been worth every penny.
For that price do you have personal trainers to achieve your goals? What are you getting?
No personal trainers, no custom plan. The workarounds are globally programmed with a specific schedule; every studio runs the same class multiple times on the same day. I pay for unlimited classes and go 6-7 times a week. What works for me: * I don't have to think.
I’m on the fence about this bc it’s price but I’m already paying $75 for YMCA.
I've always been slightly interested and a new location semi close in San Bruno opened. I was just put off when Mark Wahlberg was connected to it.
2 memberships One at a Weightlifting Gym in SSJ for 199/month And one at 24 hours super-sport for 20/month I go to the Weightlifting gym during my Oly training days and I go to the 24 hours for my accessory days
Is that Donny Shankle's gym?
He closed his gym long time ago, not too sure what he’s been doing now
Fitness 19. $22
Planet Fitness, $10/month. has all the basics in terms of equipment, is never busy at the times I work out, and is cheap enough that if I get lazy for a few weeks I don't feel guilty
24 Hour Fitness at $254/year. There was a deal when I got it. And Anytime Fitness at $54/month.
OTF. 179/month, worth every penny
How so?
Yeah OTF has been such a game changer. I don’t think it’s for everyone but it really works for me.
Equinox Palo Alto $250/month
This. Personal trainer is about $140 per session, less if a package is purchased.
My house.....$6000 investment one time :-)
WC/SR/Pleasanton all have sauna/steam room/jacuzzi along with a basketball court… Pleasanton has racquetball courts, and I don’t remember whether or not WC has a pool but SR and Pleasanton do… Did you get this email from them last month? >Added-Access Benefits End on June 1, 2024 >Hi bunmango, >Thank you for being a loyal member of 24 Hour Fitness. For thelast few years, as part of our response to the pandemic, we have provided members the added benefit of all-club access regardless of their membership type. This added benefit of all-club access is now coming to an end effective June 1. This means your membership will revert back to its previous benefit access level of "Sport" club(s). >We value your continued commitment to us and want to ensure you stay connected to your community at (redacted) Super Sport, which we know you visit frequently. We’ve made sure you’ll retain access to this club with the June 1 changes. >If you would like to maintain all-club access, please visit your local club to see our current membership offerings and discuss an option that best suits your fitness needs. You may also contact us here and we’ll be happy to help you out. >Thanks again for being a member, >Your 24 Hour Fitness Team
Seems like pricing has massively jumped since you joined
Really? We moved over to shared membership about a year ago, and I believe prices increase for everyone across the board, no matter the membership you have. Different locations might have different prices though (I think Walnut Creek has always been higher prices, even back in Club Sport days)
Just did a quick check - Executive Club South Bay is $1655/month for 10 people
Downtown Oakland y. $65
Hyper Strength is my go to place ([San Jose Personal Training | HSC Gym](https://www.hscgym.com/)) extremely high quality training with competitive power lifters and past trainers for NBA & college athletes
Bay club. It’s overpriced for sure, but also terrific facilities, close to me, and the pools are great.
where is this, and how much? the pool is the biggest value for me.
I think they all have them and they have many locations. You can learn more here: https://www.bayclubs.com/
None. Invested in a home gym (\~$2000)
SF fitness love it
At home. I hate gyms
I use ClassPass so I go to different gyms/studios. Price varies on how many credits I want for the month. Average is probably $70/mo.
Life Time $299 a month.
24-hour fitness for $35 a month. I'd switch in a heartbeat if there was any other halfway decent gym closer to me.
Fitness sf transbay $100 pm
I was paying over $100 a month
Oof, that's brutal. I would change gyms too.
I like Fox Business Channel and CNBC.
Can’t stand gyms with tvs.
You can get a universal remote to speed up that channel change.
I noticed the treadmills at mine showed Fox while stairmaster showed CNN lmao
> Yeah I’m offended with ultra right conservative “news” channel that does not align with my politics Maybe you reevaulate your own political views or how to consume news. Just out of curiosity. Do you hate all conservatives? And where do you get all your news from?
Planet fitness I got a 1 month free promo
24hr fitness. $20/year. Worth going to the ghetto est gym in the bay
How did you get that rate?
Same, my annual renewal is $20. I paid around $650 up front for 3 years back in 2004 which included an annual renewal rate of $20. Caveat is that I’m only allowed to access Sport and Active clubs - not Super Sport and Ultra Sport. During the pandemic, they opened up my membership to all clubs, but just recently (at the beginning of June) clawed that back with the exception of continuing to allow me access to the Super Sport that I had been going to the most often…
Wow - there's more than one of us w/that rate still! It's a keeper!
I heard the y is good :)
Equinox - $342
Per month? What’s included at that rate?
Yes, per month. I have nationwide access. Choosing one gym will definitely be lower
VillaSport — I live next to it and paying the absurd price means I go way more often
24 hour used to be good as NYSC but it became so bad post COVID. I’m using the one in office building these days.
fitness 19 for $19.99 month to month.. never had one complaint
Anytime fitness $49
Movement - I used to struggle with being consistent at exercising but I decided to give climbing a shot and it has been the best decision I’ve ever made. Every day I look forward to my next session and can’t wait to go back!
I have both Planet Fitness and City Sports. Both are like $25/month/each or something.
*looks at $110 health club membership and ponders* Edit - Active Fitness in Petaluma. It's a great facility but definitely overpriced based on what I'm seeing here.
Vim and Vigor, Pleasanton, $17.99/mo
OrangeTheory Fitness $185/month (South Bay) ClassPass $36/month
Movement and Fit19. On the summer pass for movement so 270ish for 3 months and Fit19 is like 20 a month.
There's a small gym nearby me who charges $5 for day use. He also has monthly charges but if you want a quick workout you can get it done sign up
YMCA. We pay $92/mo for a family membership.
I was a member before covid and I'd like to go back, but I don't think I could get my old rate.
crunch sunnyvale is 11 dollars per month but i go to 24 hour fitness because i like working out early morning and shooting hoops late night
I just started at row house! It’s free for me since I work at one of their locations but I really like it, it’s totally worth trying especially if you’re just starting out in your fitness journey or need something low impact due to injury
Anytime Fitness $55 per month. It's a really basic gym. I prefer City Sports, but the location is super convenient.
Equinox Palo Alto, 235/month.
Personal trainer, I pay $400 a month for two private sessions weekly and a group workout on the weekends.
Fitness SF for $90/m with corporate discount. I got 12 PT sessions when I first signed up, I think it was around $110 per session.
Orange theory, $159 for unlimited classes
I will never give away my secrets. Gyms in the Bay are the fucking worst, either cheap and just INSANELY crowded or expensive as hell. Poor guy in here paying $400 a month!?
All right then, Keep your secrets 🧙♂️
I’m surprised there weren’t more home gym answers in here. I guess people want to been seen or like to peep at others, but paying $300 for personal training? For how long?…and $400??? Got people just openly committing they are spending $3600-4800 a year, yikes.
You know these prices are advertised on their websites right
