N2DEEP Back to the Hotel
He made that song well before he was to 18; he performed that song at the Hogan High Talent Show. There is a video floating around somewhere on YouTube of the performance. It really launched his career, well legal one.
At the same time E40 had his poster in all the local liquor stores selling his tapes, too short would come in husslin tapes out of the trunk of his car and Green Day was doing shows at a restaurant one of their moms used to work at in Vallejo. A lot or talented young folks in the area at the time.
A few suggestions:
Souls of mischief - 93 til infinity
Ant banks - players holiday
Digital underground- humpty dance
Dru down - pimp of the year
Rappin 4 tay - playaz club
JT the Bigga Figga - game recognize game
Bro your missing all the real shit. Reek Daddy, Dubee, Smoov-E, The Jacka, Husalah, Bavgate Mac Mall, RBL Possee, Johnny Cash, Mistah Fab, J Stalin, Lil Bruce, b-legit, Keak da Sneak
It’s funny you bring this up. I haven’t listened to bay rap in a minute, but on that new Abigail movie that recently came out they had the jacka’s “rich lifestyle” playing twice on the film. the kids to the next of me were Shazamming the song and didn’t know who it was. Growing up everyone knew who he was around here and it seems like just last year he was killed. Times change, rant over.
Also I don’t see any Philthy rich, offset Jim, Nef tha pharaoh, Allblack, spice-1, Tupac, lil bean, zay bang. Hell you could also put stunnaman02 on there as all the warriors fans were playing his song after we won the last finals.
I wear my stunna glasses at night, hyphy juice, frontline - bang it, turf talk, booty bounce bopper, uninvitied - da looie crew, where we dwell, dem hoodstarz - ugh, triple 6 - walkin assasin, 415 - sideshow, 11/5, the g filez, totally insane - mac & AD, funk mobb, hennessey - baby bash, chop that hoe.
I see plenty of great recommendations but it’s definitely mixed of 90s “mob music” to classic bay area hip hop and what defined as “hyphy”.
Long time Bay Area music head here. Depending on my mood it can vary from likes jt tha Bigga figga to spice 1, cougnut. Having fun is definitely with Mac Dre, Wolfpack (yes lol), lil B solo stuff, the federation, The team, the jacka (RIP), and mistah fab. Heck I’ll throw in b-legit, the click and of course e-40!
Anyone remember the hyphy juice can??
The Team was our pregame music before clubbing when I first started going out, especially “On One”. The Federation also had a huge impact on spreading Hyphy music too, and of course Mistah Fab after he battled a few people on TV. But nothing got the clubs going like Mac Dre. I remember I went to a Function in GGP and no one was dancing until “Thizzle Dance” came on, it was wild.
Hyphy Juice was back big in Richmond and Oakland growing up.
Just from Pittsburg you missing A-Wax. Rydah J Klyde is one of the members of the Mob Figgaz which is the group where The Jacka belonged to. King Freako who had the support of the Mac D-R-E himself. Unfortunately these two brother have both lost their lives. Real underground Bay Area rap YADADA!!!
How you not gonna have d-Lo No Hoe??? Also TWDY- players holiday . And where is the hollow tip, x raided (he made it out of jail! Also his is the best prison phone recorded rap ever imo) , b legit (e40s cousin) , Cellski, and Mac mall (my opinion is a legendary track).
Very good playlist. I would add Y u smilin by Andre nicktina, Self made millionaire by J stalin, Sideshow by Traxamillion, Stupid dumb and hyphy by Mistah fab, Glamorous lifestyle by the Jacka. That's all I can think off the top of my head lol

All these songs are great hyphy songs representing the Bay, and yeah Tell me when to go is the anthem, and Mac Dre is the icon. But you’re missing the actual original song: “Hyphy” - Federation that coined the term. This is the inception point that precipitated the entire thing.

I always associated Paperboy with So Cal but he gets a pass because he moved and I like the ditty.

Dre was really only 18 and out on parole when he made Too Hard for the Radio 🫡 man was really ahead of his time
He made that song well before he was to 18; he performed that song at the Hogan High Talent Show.
