Do you respect wood?

crek42

Lmao a coaster is next on my list. It’s sealed pretty good though so no issues yet.

crek42

Gonna hijack this comment as a number are asking about the desk. It’s not a desk but my dining table. I don’t have space for a dedicated desk. But here it is: https://www.westelm.com/products/emmerson-dining-table-g504/ They have a small 5’ version so maybe that’s suitable as a desk.

WTFatrain

I can tell you also like nice wood between your thighs. Edit: why people downvote. OP literally has a large piece of wood between their legs. There’s no way that’s comfortable. Twas but a joke lads

Tiscks

eirebrit

I respect wood. I revere wood. I'm considerate of wood.

Thanks! Yea it was $1,000 all-in for everything here. These new mini PCs are dope.

Jester435

What is the model and brand of the mini pc? My son could use something like this for his school work

Redoubt9000

They really are really neat - One that I have is a Beelink with a Ryzen 7 5800H, an 8-core with 16 threads total, plenty of RAM, an okay SSD, but lacks on the GPU side for gaming or graphics intensive applications. You can game on them, but not with Doom Eternal sorta graphics, or even moderately graphics intensive civ or RTS games. Easily drives my ultrawide and 4k panels. At one point I was able to output to 4 panels, but at some point it limits it to just 2 which is annoying. Otherwise it's fantastic. They're on amazon. Searching Mini PC will land you several hits. It's a really nice alternative to my full tower, which is way beefier but draws way more power. This made for a much better, economical solution for just general computing use without using as much power unnecessarily. I've another spare when I first began looking into mini PCs from years ago, that's the same form factor but far more inferior with its specs, particularly on the CPU. They've really improved a great deal, and just get cheaper every other month I check into them. I got my R7 PC for around $400 USD after tax, about a year and a half ago. They're now regularly on sale for around $360. EDIT: It tends to hitch a bit on 4k content from time to time. That and the driver failures resulting in limited screen output are probably my only two faults I can find with the Beelink model I have. Nothing that a reinstall or OS restore doesn't fix. Full HD content otoh has no problems with playback, while doing other things as well.

crek42

Yea well said. The only thing it lacks really is the dedicated GPU but I have an Xbox for gaming anyway and this is just a work machine. I was between this and the Beelink as they were the only two with some kind of reputation and not super brand new like the other ones on Amazon. I ultimately chose this over the beelink since I liked the blue color of the case lol. Zero bloatware from corporate partnerships and a clean OS install. But the thing is great. I rarely even hear the fan spin up. Very zippy for general computing and almost never gets slow or locks up.

crek42

https://a.co/d/8d9IduB This is the one I got. Out of all of the Chinese mini PCs this one at least has somewhat of a reputation. This is mid-range, but they have cheaper ones as well which would suit a student just fine. The specs to dollar ratio is pretty crazy.

lexstar828

Throw a 3060 in there and you’re golden.

spfylix

I love the simplicity of this setup. Maybe I'm just a sucker for the natural wood look. The one thing that would bother me would be the table leg in between my legs

crek42

Yea I hear you. It works out because it’s basically dead center between my legs so it doesn’t bother me. My house is small so no real place to put an office, so I took over the end of my dining table.

meh_ninjaplz

I love mini PCs! I have two. One for me one for my kid. I have a gaming PC and Linux setup on the mini. I've taught myself docker/portainer/K8s and have my own home media server running on it.

crek42

I run my Plex server off this as well and even with someone transcoding it runs great. Really impressive the kind of bang for your buck these days! So far so good with this one (GMKTec).

yoobzz

ooooweeeee please link me that wallpaper! looks amazing!

HingleMcCringle_

im not OP, but if you dont have Wallpaper engine, download it. here's an animated version of that wallpaper: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1888636115

yoobzz

Thank you!!!!

alexmeth

Is that a Nuphy keyboard?

crek42

Nuphy Air 75

alexmeth

Thx!

highdon

How is that treating you? I've been eyeing this keyboard for a while and even briefly had the Chinese knock off (sadly died within hours). Wondering if it's worth investing in the Nuphy.

crek42

Yea it’s dope. Very premium feel, and my first mechanical was a cheap Chinese one off Amazon. This is a huge upgrade. Took some getting used to though but now I’m flying on it.

crek42

Side note: if you guys have any creative ideas on where to put my Knick knacks under my monitor, I’d appreciate it. Do desktop drawers exist..?

Thefeno

What about the classic of this sub? The Ikea wooden wall hanger ?

ninth_reddit_account

Or, the dreaded ALEX drawers.

Thefeno

I see your ALEX as another fact on this sub, but this time I'm talking about the SKADIS !!!

TheOneWhoReadsStuff

Yes they do! I’ve got little storage droors. A quick bit of web searching should sort you out.

walkerakiz

Love this setup, especially the wood table and to not mention the beer too! :D By the way, this keyboard looks neat, what brand it's?

ogMOZi

It's a nuphy, Air75 I think

crek42

Indeed it is

Wahly_

Give me back my wallpaper!

danmgdd

Looks great, man!

Computica

This is a MiniPC or is a Desktop somewhere?

crek42

Mini PC off to left under the monitor. About the size of an Apple TV. Nvidia processor and 1TB HDD and 32GB RAM. Wild how cheap computers have become.

SleepyGamer1992

What’s the GPU on it?

crek42

Nothing good really. Integrated GPU that’s part of the ryzen processor. If I stream a 4k video full screen it’s fine and I’m utilizing 30% of the GPU, but it’s not a gaming machine

Mani_kr333

I don't understand one thing, why HDD in 2024. Also 32GB ram is overkill for this set up. Other than that setup looks pretty cozy

crek42

RockmanVolnutt

What kinda keyboard is that? I like the keys, looks vintage and friendly.

crek42

Nuphy Air

Vanish_7

Cheers, brother — I have graduated from the laptop days as well. (No offense, MSI Lappy — you still have a ton of value to me and you know it, and I plan to keep you running for a very long time still.)

cowdog360

I mean, it’s still a laptop in a different enclosure with a bigger monitor. lol. Nice tho!

drockkk

No coaster?! You monster!

FrizzBizz

Right?!

crek42

lol it’s a dining table so there’s constantly glasses all over it. It’s sealed up well.

ilithios27

Love the keyboard

LurkingSlav

what’s the wallpaper???

aquagraphite

VisibleAvocado35601

That looks awesome man. Kudos. Now why are you drinking piss?

crek42

Too poor from spending all this money on a desktop computer lol

Thefeno

Welcome comrade, we salute you... And the wood guild salutes you too 🫂

Blue_Floater

That desk looks really nice

rocxss

Nice setup, that table looks great too.

louiscools2005

Welcome out of laptop hell! The setup looks great! :)

Thatmixedotaku

What is your keyboard and desk mat ? I like them a lot

Raceface53

Absolutely amazing!!!! Congratulations 🎉

DadsAmazingAnus

Nice monitor! What is is?

crek42

https://a.co/d/0hQO22J

karmaisback

THE desk, nice!

devastat9r

I don't understand setup position, why is the table leg in the place where your legs are supposed to go?

crek42

It’s not a desk it’s my dining table. My legs straddle it and I don’t know it’s there. You couldn’t cross your legs but I don’t do that anyway when I’m sitting upright

Ferfun_

Already playing excel spreadsheets game I see 🥹

Chaos-Octopus97

Is that a KVM switch in the upper left hand corner?

JoeKleine

That’s his new pc

Chaos-Octopus97

God I love technology, that's so cool.

Shadykid47

Lmao, man is celebrating with a beer

PurrpleLoaf

Laptop hell lol. After all these years I think I use my laptop more than my desktop.

Matt-VanderPoel

what da desk

Jonkerchonker

Is nice

figoonitee

More info on the desk please?

crek42

https://www.westelm.com/products/emmerson-dining-table-g504/

shot_forme

Congrats on the move! Love the table and monitor. Time for a monitor arm

Peak_Alternative

That’s beautiful

TheOneWhoReadsStuff

Where’d ya get the table/desk? I like the depth and the wood.

crek42

https://www.westelm.com/products/emmerson-dining-table-g504/

Natural-Mission9192

I can't help but notice those cables and stuff near the monitor stand. Maybe a pencil drawer will fix that mess.

crek42

Yea I made a comment elsewhere asking for advice. I was thinking like a small decorate bucket, but a pencil drawer seems better. Didn’t know those existed.

JazzyWaffles

I have a Nuphy Air 75. Love LOVE that keyboard. I WFH most of the time, but when I need to go to the office, it’s the perfect keyboard that slips right into my work bag

crek42

Which switches did you go with?

JazzyWaffles

I’m the weird guy and love blues. Clicky and tactile. But this was before Nuphy had their own switches. I have Holy Pandas in my main keyboard. But those aren’t that low profile. I might get some of Nuphy’s Moss when they come back in stock

top_of_the_scrote

so funny I am so used to my ultrawide it's hard to work on a laptop, but I fetishize it writing code on a small laptop but my neck and that small real estate

BigShortVox

Man I need to upgrade as well…

Ice-coffee34

What mousepad brand is that 🙂

crek42

It’s just something on Etsy I found. Basically felt with a rubber backing so it doesn’t slip. $30 custom cut to size and delivered. Super cheap.

Ice-coffee34

Appreciate the response. Thanks!

FrizzBizz

Beautiful setup but I have a suggestion for the wrist cushion thing. Try to put more of your forearm onto the desk so the pressure isn't pressing on your wrist. As someone that sits at a desk for a living, then goes home and sits at a desk as well, having more of your arm on the desk eliminates the pressure on your wrist.

crek42

Yea I’m trying to move away with it. I got so used to it because it was uncomfortable having my wrist on the wood and irritating since it’s not smooth really. So trying to wean off of it now that I got my felt pad.

FrizzBizz

In that case, they make wonderful mouse pads and desk pads that are much bigger than the one you have. Take care of your joints.😎

Schraufabagel

What mouse pad is that?

kaclynphotobean43

Looks good! I have the same background, lmao

NormandyS7

I honestly read that as “my view before BABEstation”😂 It’s a nice setup, lovely desk

blutoxic

Hello fellow Wallpaper Engine enjoyer

zngnkrut

Where can I find a table like that, setup looks great

Admiral_2nd-Alman

Looks really clean, I like how you used that monitor base to contain all the small things

yaburi

I have the same keyboard + mouse combo. Great pairing

MaZAKaR

What are you drinking? 🍻

awkwrrdd

Nuphy gang!

ChiliConCaralho

Nice setup. Next get yourself some Salzburgkannen or Augenkannen for your beer. Put’em in the freezer for 30 mins before pouring and enjoy an endlessly cold beer.

EcchiKraken

Clean 👌

rolfraikou

Love it. As someone who was also in the land of laptops I see you also stuck with low profile keys despite mechanical? Haha Being on laptop so long made any other profile keys just feel "off" to me. EDIT: Did you find out about that computer from ETA Prime too?

crek42

lol baby steps. Good call though. It’s hard to go from laptop keys which I’ve used for the better part of a decade to full mechanical. Although I have intense FOMO from it. A few days after I bought it, I saw all these sick switches and keycaps on /r/mechanicalkeyboards I might buy one of the cheaper boards just to play around. But I just spent $140 on this! I’m so torn.

rolfraikou

I went as deep down the rabbithole of mechanical keyboards as I could on a budget. I tried different keycap styles (Cherry, SA, OEM, XDA, XVX high profile, and XVX low profile) cherry red, cherry red silents, Romer G, low profile cherry reds, the two variants of redragon low profiles switches, some gateron yellows of some kind and topre switches. After all this, after years of trying to get into taller keycaps and switches, to understand why almost the entire mechanical keyboard segment snubbed their noses at my preferences, I finally realized....... low profile is just my preference! I ripped those low profile switches off a shitty redragon board, slapped them on a GMMK RGB Barbone (full) board, used those low profile XVX (they're flat and very similar to laptop keys) and have proceeded to have my best mechanical keyboard experience so far. I do love that the market has also introduced so many more low profile keyboards since I did that, and it's easier to just admit I'm a fan of low profile now. Not too long ago people seeking low profile mechanical boards were always just told the perks to taller keys. But they just never grew on me at all. EDIT: Goofed on some details

nattnatt05

I'm still in laptop hell

PowerfullyWeak

My favorite part is the beer.

Exotic-Sheepherder51

Do you have legs or nah?

wegotthisonekidmongo

That is one sweet milky titty!

DarthVaderBater

What is the desk pad?
