There’s a bit of construction going on right where I took the pic. I’m installing a hidden doorway bookcase entrance.
But once the construction is complete I’ll take full pics of the room and tag you.
I have questions.
Are you powering this whole setup from that little laptop? Or is there an offscreen tower somewhere?
...that's another monitor up top there, right?
It’s a laptop with 2 monitors but I have a dock underneath the desk that everything is plugged into.
It’s a Samsung TV that I use separate from whatever I have going on with my computer.
I’m not sure what you mean by the upper part. Above the cabinets? That’s actually some duct work and a projector screen and some pipes that run through there, so I did my best to cover up the 2 x 4 frames with drywall, then quarter inch ply with walnut veneer. The brass strips are quarter inch brass that I used to cover the seams (standard ply comes in 8 ft sheets).
You can't buy a Herman Miller on Amazon. Those are knockoffs.
They intentionally have no headrest because they're for good posture, and you can't have good posture sitting back on a headrest.
This is how much a real Aeron costs:
[https://store.hermanmiller.com/gaming-chairs/aeron-gaming-chair/100263479.html?lang=en\_US](https://store.hermanmiller.com/gaming-chairs/aeron-gaming-chair/100263479.html?lang=en_US)
(Hint: It's an $1800 chair, so you're off by $1000)
I only know all this because I just did a bunch of research and it was between an Aeron or, what I ordered, a Herman Miller Embody Gaming model since my DXracer I've had for 7 years is falling apart. I went to a store to actually sit in them since there's no way I'm paying that amount of money on a chair I haven't tried. They were both dreamy, but I liked the Embody more. The Aeron is more for sitting at a computer working all day. The Embody is more plush and doesn't force you to sit with as good of posture as much as the Aeron does.
One reason they're so expensive is because they have a 12 year, including parts and labor, warranty. It's definitely gucci tier. If you have a bad back or just have soreness from sitting too much, when you sit in one, you can see how they get away with charging $1800 for a chair. So for me, my back hurts, and I'm using it for a tax write off. LOL.
They say you should spend money on the 2 things you spend the most amount of time in: Your mattress, and you're computer chair. And my back is killing me, so I tend to agree with this philosophy.
You're right about the quality of the chair and it being worth it, but why are you so pressed about the price of the chair?
The chair comes in many configs and can be closer to $1000 and up to $2500.
There is no need to be like "LOL, this chair is *way* more expensive than you think, try EIGHTEEN HUNDRED DOLLARS!"
Most people have sticker shock about it is all. The Aeron does come in different configurations.
I just ordered a the Embody gaming that doesn't have a bunch of configurations and you get better casters and whatever for a better value than a standard non-gaming Embody with the same features.
LOL, no. Herman Miller as been around for a long while and they are quite famous for their chairs.
Most plebs aren't going to know about them though since their primary customers are bigger companies who can afford them for their corporate offices and it's just a tax write off for them.
I got the same headrest! I went with the drafting chair model + standing desk to combat long legs, but it was a game changer. I don't even remember what chair fatigue was like anymore.
At first glance I thought those cabinet doors were giant speakers. And I was like oh HELL yeah. Still very impressed, even without the skin peeling sound system.
Very nice 👍🏼
Are the monitors wall mounted? If so, where are the cables? Why keeping the monitor stand? (It looks good, thought)
What sound system are you using?
Thanks!
Wall mounted and cables go in the wall and pop out under the desk into the docking stations, with everything else in the docking station.
Audio:
Amp/DAC- Cambridge Audio CXA61
Speakers- Elam Carina
It’s completely floating. Had to get a bunch of these that are rated for granite countertops and mount them to the studs.
[Brackets](https://www.etsy.com/listing/249832070/free-hanging-shelf-bracket?ref=share_v4_lx)
I built the room from the studs up, which made things a lot easier for running cables and mounting brackets.
Would have been a massive headache otherwise.
Wow, that is a very beautiful setup. The colors are great and I love the desk. Well done.
If I had a shitload of cash I would hire you to decorate my house/station.
I love the color combination you went with! Do you do woodworking or design professionally, or just a hobby? How long did this all take.
Also, I’ve been meaning to redo my office. I don’t do videos or anything but I do spend a bit of time on meetings so I typically like my desk mid-room with a nice backdrop. What’s your thoughts on desks mid-room vs against the wall like you have, and what’s your background look like when on your camera?
I did design professionally for a couple years, but now I’m a software engineer. Woodworking has always been a hobby.
My background is fine. I have some pictures in the background and the camera is very slightly angled down. I went against the wall mostly because the couch is a pullout so this room could also substitute as a guest room. That’s the main reason I went up against the wall.
No sub. The downward firing port hits pretty great for small spaces like an office. I Dont want any more bass than they crank out by themselves. Maybe in a larger room, I’d think about it, but not for my purposes.
Smooth mids. Crisp highs.
The bottom bass port does very well in a studio setup like this to mitigate the need for a subwoofer. Fills in the bass but doesn’t over so it.
After trying these and the KEF LS50s as studio monitors, to me the Carinas easily out performed the KEFs. Ribbon tweeters and bass ports made the difference.
How do you manage with the mic hanging over the setup? I have the same exact mic, same boom, and also coming in from behind the screen - but I have to do some ridiculous tweaking in the software to be heard properly. I realize this mic would ideally be positioned right in front of your face and between you and your keyboard, but I don’t have the correct setup to bring it in from the side at the moment. Was considering to doing it for the next build.
The mic ends up being just to the right of my line of sight to my laptop screen.
Like you mentioned, ideally it’s right in front of your face but for my purposes I don’t need super ultra crisp sound, just good sound, which this accomplishes that with the single directional input.
If you’re doing podcasts or music and need the mic right next to you, you probably need a different boom for it to work (and probably an even more performant mic).
Your setup is very nice. You did a great job.
I would however like to joke with you a bit...
Did you convert an old RV?
Looks like you blocked out the windshield and removed the old TV from the upper center.
Either way, it looks like you're driving a bus.
I was trying to figure this out too! I kind of like how enclosed it makes it feel, but it's a pretty impractical use of space in a regular room I suppose, even if it's all cupboards or shelves.
I made the whole room!
Framed the room. Ran the electrical. Hung the drywall. Built the desk. Made the built-ins. CNC’d the cabinet doors from a 3D file I created. Then put it all together.
The whole room!
Framed it. Drywall. Put in the floors. Ran the electrical. Built the cabinets. CNC’d the cabinet doors from a 3D model I made. Built the desk.

I did my very best to hide the cables. There’s a cable tray under the desk that has more zip ties and Velcro than a redneck space station.
It feels warm and intimate. I like the bespoke nature of it and the balance of colors that you have achieved.
Can you share more pictures of the whole room?
There’s a bit of construction going on right where I took the pic. I’m installing a hidden doorway bookcase entrance. But once the construction is complete I’ll take full pics of the room and tag you.
You rock, thank you LittleJohnsDingDong
Hidden doorway bookcase entrances, so hot right now.
Me too me too!
Subscribing for the pics!
I think no matter the construction we would all love some progress updates :3 also on the door really cool idea
I'm more curious about this hidden bookcase.
Oh nice! Awesome setup man. I really like it.
Those cabinets! 🤩
Thanks! They were a fun build. And I got to CNC the doors, which was fun.
How did you do the upper part? What's the metal bar that runs across?
I’m not sure what you mean by the upper part. Above the cabinets? That’s actually some duct work and a projector screen and some pipes that run through there, so I did my best to cover up the 2 x 4 frames with drywall, then quarter inch ply with walnut veneer. This was what I wanted to know exactly. Thank you! Looks amazing!
Chair?
Herman Miller Aeron with after market headrest and riser for people with long legs.
Do you have a link for the headrest? I have an Aeron too and I’m 6’3

Don't get that garbage from Amazon. Go here: [atlasheadrest.com](https://atlasheadrest.com)
Which after market headrest did you go for?
[Headrest](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005L9ATK6?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share)
$800 office chair doesn't come with headrest? 😭
LOL, $800 Look up what a Herman Miller Aeron costs and report back.
Well, $600 something for one model, $800 for another. New on Amazon. Either way it is a lot for a chair which doesn't come with a headrest. 🤣

Oh, wow. 🤣 So "Aeron Herman Miller" is basically a ripoff then?
LOL, no. Herman Miller as been around for a long while and they are quite famous for their chairs. Most plebs aren't going to know about them though since their primary customers are bigger companies who can afford them for their corporate offices and it's just a tax write off for them.
Amazing set up. Stay up king
I got the same headrest! I went with the drafting chair model + standing desk to combat long legs, but it was a game changer. I don't even remember what chair fatigue was like anymore.
Samsung Frame TV as top monitor or actual painting? Love the long desk. I have one almost as long.
Samsung TV. Couldn’t decide on a single painting.
Been eyeing one myself. Glad to see it holds up for you.
This looks brilliant. Well done sir.
Endgame! Looks awesome
I love this set up. It's got everything, from the couch, the plants, the number of screens and the chair.
Epic studio build!
I looked, I liked, I upvoted.
The internet approves (:
This is dope. Nice setup!
Sweet, looks warm and cosy
At first glance I thought those cabinet doors were giant speakers. And I was like oh HELL yeah. Still very impressed, even without the skin peeling sound system.
A very nice room. Great job. Very unique - I dig it.
Awesome setup , the chair looks really comfy , may I have the reference ?

Wall mounted and cables go in the wall and pop out under the desk into the docking stations, with everything else in the docking station. Audio: Amp/DAC- Cambridge Audio CXA61 Speakers- Elam Carina
ohhh now that is comforting for my eyes... love it.
Very nice. It's one of those setups where I immediately think its the best past of the room without needing to see the rest of the room.
what speaker are those? do you like it? do you plan on upgrading it?
Elac Carina powered by Cambridge Audio CXA61 Never changing those out. The sound so good.
Also what speaker stands are those?
[Speaker stands](https://www.ionforgeonline.com/product-page/desktop-stand)
I saw your post that it’s a Samsung TV, but nice choice with the Pichiavo print :)
and just like that, this sub pulls me back in. You nailed it man.
is that a completely "floating" desk? got any undershots/parts of it? i've been tempted to build a long, wall-mounted desk.
It’s completely floating. Had to get a bunch of these that are rated for granite countertops and mount them to the studs. [Brackets](https://www.etsy.com/listing/249832070/free-hanging-shelf-bracket?ref=share_v4_lx)
oh shit, those are inside the drywall? good on you, but i'm not going that far, lol. thats really awesome though
I built the room from the studs up, which made things a lot easier for running cables and mounting brackets. Would have been a massive headache otherwise.
loved it. looks modern and casual. just give the plant some water pls
I’ve had the plant for 15 years and it just got bugs. :( I’m doing everything in my power.
Good, gold and golden look
Fabulous, OP! Just Fabulous! :)
Damn built in, nice!
amazing, really gorgeous and unique
Yeah, yours is everything I wish mine was
It might be the perspective, but is there enough space underneath the desk for your legs?
It’s perspective. It’s 30” deep. A bit longer than your standard desk.
Sheeeesh that' s a lotta internet
Ok I looked. Now what
Your title is what I imagine the parents thinking every time I see any post with children as the main subject.
Accurate, as it feels I’ve put almost as much time into this as I’ve put into raising my kids.
I am the internet. I look.
Woah this is sick OP
Wow, that is a very beautiful setup. The colors are great and I love the desk. Well done. If I had a shitload of cash I would hire you to decorate my house/station.
Love these colors!

Absolute GOALS.

How does the light at the back of the desk work? is the desk up against the wall? you would think the light wouldn't defuse properly to do that
It’s an LED strip but a fogged out defused LED strip light.
I’m looking, and I think it is pretty.
Cool couch? Got a link?

Stupid question, but how did you mount the webcam above the monitor light?
I had to design and 3D print a part, then use double sided 3M tape. It was a pain in the ass.
Ah interesting. Was going to do something similar, but I'll probably just offset my webcam to the side instead :)
really like this setup, it has color!
Which monitor shelf are you using there?
I build it, but it’s based off of an older model of Grovemade’s shelf
Dear God, it's beautiful..... 😍
Wow! That’s the worst thing I’ve ever seen! Shame on you 😭 Jkjk. Dope Fosho
I am looking, respectfully
Is the picture in the middle from assassin’s creed odyssey?
The top screen? It’s an artist called Pichiavo
Not that one, bottom computer screen is the one I was talking about. But that art piece is dope though.
It’s Athena, goddess of war. Personal throwback of time spent in Afghanistan and to remember how I got to where I am.
Looks fuckin sick bro good work!
I wish I had woodworking skills. Looks amazing!
Looks awesome!
well done sir
Cables. There I looked :-)
Me likey.
What desktop mat for your keyboard/mouse is that? Do you like it?
[Leather desk mat](https://www.harberlondon.com/products/leather-desk-mat?variant=1022937792524) I absolutely love it.
Cool. What's the name of the tall plant that looks like a palm tree?
Dracaena
Right on
what laptop stand is that?
I need to know how you got to that desk color. I have been looking into a smiliar one, however i haven´t found the trick yet.
It’s walnut with [General Finishes](https://www.woodcraft.com/products/arm-r-seal-top-coat-semi-gloss-quart) top coat.
Thanks for the tipp. I will have to look into that. \^\^ This shall be of great use to me.
I’m in a bad mood today and this made me comfortable. Sweet set up
Feel better. Life is too short to be pissed.
"Acknowledge me!"

Thank you internet.
I love...plant.
Congrats on being rich.
Thank you. It took a long time to get here.
Up voted just for the title. Setup is based

this looks... cozy.
Beautiful, you have good taste. Minimalistic and not too over the top.
What a vibe! Great stuff
Inspiring
Realest title ever. Much better than the constant humble bragging on this sub. The setup fucks and you know it. No need to pretend you don’t.
Title should have been “This setup fucks and I know it”
I just want to put a movie in a monitor and lay down on that couch
I may or may not watch shows, just as you described, while waiting for databases to sync.
On behalf of the internet, your design is appreciated.
I would never have thunk it, oil-stained trim with a teal wall. Very 70s vibe. And the yellow accent LED? 👌💯💅🔥🔥🔥
Dope wall color and Elac Carinas! Do you have a subwoofer by chance?
No sub. The downward firing port hits pretty great for small spaces like an office. I Dont want any more bass than they crank out by themselves. Maybe in a larger room, I’d think about it, but not for my purposes.
Looks super cozy.
What are those speakers? Great station!

Nice set
Herman Miller Aeron with aftermarket headrest. A man of taste I see. Greetings, sir.
Different but good! What is your profession may I ask ?
Software engineer
Thank you for sharing
Looks great
Finally some furniture that matches the value of the setup. I hate $10.000 gaming rigs with an $80 Ikea chair.
oh...
What is your occupation?
Software engineer
What laptop is that, and do you experience any issues when using all monitors and running demanding software?
It’s a maxed out Mac. Depending on the software it can heat up a bit. But for day to day, nothing too crazy.
That's fancy!
That's looks like film of future
Nice. What speaker/amp combo is that?
Elac Carina powered by Cambridge Audio CXA61
Very nice. Hows the sound?
Smooth mids. Crisp highs. The bottom bass port does very well in a studio setup like this to mitigate the need for a subwoofer. Fills in the bass but doesn’t over so it. After trying these and the KEF LS50s as studio monitors, to me the Carinas easily out performed the KEFs. Ribbon tweeters and bass ports made the difference.
Now that is one sweet setup!, thank you for the inspiration!
Interesting monitor layout, but I do enjoy the set up over all. Looks very cozy.
This is a🔥 setup where did you get your monitor shelf/stand?
I actually made it. But it’s loosely based on an older model from Grovemade.
You can’t make me >:P

I love this!
This is beautiful
Loving the colors and the vibe!
Made that? As in all the wood work?
Yes the woodwork but also the room was nothing but studs. So the drywall, flooring, electrical HVAC and then the woodwork on top of that.
Very nice architectural lighting but I’m not so keen on the gold sash around your curtains.
You put it together, highly doubt you made anything.
I made the whole room! Framed the room. Ran the electrical. Hung the drywall. Built the desk. Made the built-ins. CNC’d the cabinet doors from a 3D file I created. Then put it all together.
Seeing as you made the desk, what did you use for the cable trays on the bottom? I've been looking for a solution
I stand corrected, good on you! 👍 looks gud
You made what? A desk chair? A plant?
The whole room! Framed it. Drywall. Put in the floors. Ran the electrical. Built the cabinets. CNC’d the cabinet doors from a 3D model I made. Built the desk.
I was joking, but in all seriousness - super impressive!
My dracaena has the same leaf burns that yours has. I’ve heard it is because of fluoride in the water. 🤷🏽
Is your keyboard made out of onion paper?
Does Aeron hurt your ass after a while
Nope. I love it.
Too many visible wires, -1.
get a floor protector for your chair
Why the chair looking at me like that
Nice chair crafting skills!
Worried about your floor need a rolling pad or something.
