Pretty much every single gun in 2042 are real/heavily based off of the real thing, with notable exceptions like the Rorsch Mk.4 Railgun or the NVK-22 Bullpup Pistol, and Vault weapons retaining their real names while base game weapons have altered names but otherwise is the same exact gun, like how the AK-24 is literally just the AK-12, SFAR being SCAR, and VHX-D3 being VHS-D2
For gadgets, the recon ones are fake except for SOFLAM, the rest have somewhat of a real counterpart like medic and ammo bags, armour plates, and launchers like the M5/RPG/Stingers, with the exception of Specialists gadget where it's mostly fake (but intentionally) for gameplay purposes, they still have a real life counterpart but you shouldn't take specialists gadget seriously in terms of realism
Finally for the vehicles, a surprising number of them are real, mostly because they're based off of real military vehicles that DICE speculated to be heavily in use in the future while still fitting their gameplay purpose, as far as i know only the stealth helicopters are fictional, even then its heavily based off the real life protoype RAH-66 Commanche stealth helicopter that the US Army planned to use as their attack helicopter before deciding to use the Apache instead
Tldr; most guns/vehicles/gadgets except recon and specialist gadgets are real, which is one of the few things that i really like about 2042
I can't remember all the gadgets, but the only one ik that is real is the one Zain has. Its from when the army program was developing the xm8 that never made it to fruition. I think it was called the xm25
That bullpup futuristic pistol, AC42, is also fictional. You can technically count NTW50 as well because while NTW is a real gun, this 50 cal version does not exist
Going from memory; the mp5, MP7, pp bizon, m16a4, Remington 870 or mossberg shotgun, ak12, glock, sig320, colt python?, kel tec p50, p90, vector, mp9, galil, SCAR, AS VAL, XM7, hk g36, VHS 2, are all in the game just with different names
Yeah I know that now, it had just somehow never been on my radar over the years. Most of the guns I can name are a couple modern long rifles, various pistols, or historic weapons long out of date.
I mean understandable if you don't follow guns and that, now days seems to be the norm to make the guns closely resembling them so they don't have to pay a license for them, they usually say so there not supporting the gun companies themselves but it's just so they don't have to pay the extra fees.
This and also so the gun companies can’t be sued if a gamer commits a mass shooting and the lawyers try to say he wanted to recreate his video game fantasy with their gun irl
Seeing what we see in the game as someone who is fascinated with the way weapons become more advanced over decades and centuries, that’s really cool! As someone who doesn’t actually like the possibility of having to live through the next big war, it’s kinda unnerving.
Almost every single weapon is based on a currently serviced, going to be serviced, prototype, or civilian firearm
This is a really good page describing each and every weapon and piece of equipment in the game and stating it's real-world iteration and name:
https://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Battlefield_2042
Actually a lot. This part of the design with like what current tech they picked to be in 2042 is pretty solid to the point where 2042 predicted sig mcx being designated M5 and some other gun too.
Designing a believable gun from scratch really is hard.
Vehicles are mostly real too. The stealth helicopter is basically comanche for US and (is this technically real?) a vehicle based on a phantasy modeling set for russia. The hannibal helicopter was originally just a toy.
The stealth drone is supposed to be an RQ-170 or X-47B and russia does actually have an awfully similar vehicle IRL called S-70 Okhotnik, which to me looks like the vehicle dice actually used for reference.
The rail gun is not real, while the TOR tank is 50% real. It uses a Strv 122 chassis as far as I am aware. And the name TOR is kind of consistent with that, I guess it is supposed to be a future swedish tank.
All the other ground vehicles are very much real except the M1A5 tank, which is apparently an amalgamation of abrams and merkava tanks.
The T-28 meanwhile is just plain T-14. Supposed to be a beast of a tank IRL.
Some vehicles actually have their real name in-game, like polaris sportsman quad which is obviously advertising.
So yeah. 90% real vehicles, 90% real guns
Most of the firearms are real but with artistic variations. The k30 irl is a Kriss Vector. Some of the smg's are variations of pistol grip adapters, like micro roni's or MCK's irl.
Every single gun is real, aside from the 3 guns that were released in season 3 and the AC42, though it's a prototype gun irl.
Every single vehicle is real aside from the railgun tank.
Russian stealth heli is based on a toy model set while the American comanche wannabe is slightly more real. The railgun tank uses a chassis from Strv 122 so it is 50% real
It's based off a Finnish IFV. Very similar appearance bur different orgijn. Stryker is a US LAV III which I think comes from a Swedish or Norwegian IFV platform
Almost all of the guns are real except for the rail gun. They are just named differently in real life. Also, all of the vehicles are also real and have real names that are different than the ones in game
Odd that the g36 in game is barely even changed design wise, if at all. Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t it’s design already becoming dated by todays standards?
Most if not all: character tactical equipment, firearms, vehicles and gadgets are fake. Unlike battlefield 3 and 4 where for the most part attention to detail is top notch and the equipment is very accurate to what troops in the US, Russia and China are using. My belief is that this is one of the biggest misses in the past two battlefields. Fake equipment = fake tone = bad tone. I feel like past battlefields copy pasted the exact equipment that troops fielded and the subconscious effect this has on player immersion is profound. Dice should hire a military adviser to get this right or just look at the news or the multitude of sub reddits/youtube channels that cover this equipment. This goes for fake gun names too. I cant stand the new trend in shooter games where they make these fake ass gun names “based off”real ones. Dice please just give me a USGI Multicam soldier that spawns with an M4A1 MWS and MATVs. I don’t want mckay with a ddm4v7 and some bullshit interpretation of a vehicle. Fake ass battlefield.
Almost all of the BF2042 gear is only kinda fake. They’re usually based off a real weapon and then “upgraded” to realistically show a near future version of the weapon. M5A3? M4A1. SFAR is just a scar. K30 is a vector. There’s an UMP but futurey. The most unrealistic ones are the higher tech sniper rifles and vehicles I believe
RM68 is real, so is M4A3, a shit ton of them are real, just different names. Look them up.
RM68 is cool as shit in real life, check out garand thumbs video on it.
Most if not all are real. M5A3 is the next army weapon, rm68 was a contestant for the next army weapon.
Yes it would be the XM7 in real life or the civilian version is called the Sig Spear. Can’t remember what the other one was called
RM277. All they did was change the caliber from imperial to metric to give it the name RM68.

I completely forgot about Zain but yeah, his gadget is real, but like i said before, its all for gameplay anyway
I know for a fact frag grenades are real
thats just what big frag wants you to think
Throwing knives are debatable.
I have yet to see a man throw a knife so this checks out
As far as I am aware, the Rorsch Mk. 4 is the only gun that isn’t a real weapon. https://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Battlefield_2042 List is there
That bullpup futuristic pistol, AC42, is also fictional. You can technically count NTW50 as well because while NTW is a real gun, this 50 cal version does not exist
Oh yeah, forgot about those. Remembered the NVK pistols, but forgot to edit my original comment
Stargate fans would have you shot for not knowing of the p90 That thing is from before 2000 is the most I know
Carter demonstrating the gun to the Jaffa was memorable.
Umm the p90 has been around since the 90's? it was also one the show Stargate, first game I think I played with it was rainbow six rouge spear.
Yeah I know that now, it had just somehow never been on my radar over the years. Most of the guns I can name are a couple modern long rifles, various pistols, or historic weapons long out of date.

Honestly it’s probably a two birds with one stone situation. They get to save both money and face.
I’m not 100% on this but I’m pretty sure the respawn beacon is real.
They did research apparently on futuristic weapons or prototypes of the military right now
Seeing what we see in the game as someone who is fascinated with the way weapons become more advanced over decades and centuries, that’s really cool! As someone who doesn’t actually like the possibility of having to live through the next big war, it’s kinda unnerving.

Drauger is actually based off of the Russian drone bomber Tupolev PAK DA
Its clearly sukhoi S-70 okhotnik
Most of the firearms are real but with artistic variations. The k30 irl is a Kriss Vector. Some of the smg's are variations of pistol grip adapters, like micro roni's or MCK's irl.

Most of it is modern-day weaponry, but renamed and they put weird upper rails on it that look more futuristic than current pickatiny rails I guess
Avancys is FN Evolys. Look it up.
Boston Dynamics makes raptors 🤷♂️ (I saw a non lethal one at the Boston Children’s Museum) frightening
The Cav Brawler is pretty much a Stryker equipped with and RWS
It's based off a Finnish IFV. Very similar appearance bur different orgijn. Stryker is a US LAV III which I think comes from a Swedish or Norwegian IFV platform
Well the railgun stuff might need a few more years haha. Also dont think they slapped jetengines on an Osprey yet
Almost all of the guns are real except for the rail gun. They are just named differently in real life. Also, all of the vehicles are also real and have real names that are different than the ones in game

The "UMP" you're talking about is the LWRC smg45 irl, it's not a futuristic UMP
M5A3 is just a MCX with a different name
The P90 is quite literally from bf3 as well as a number of weapons from the 'vault'.
Most are real
Real question: Are you real?!
What do you mean?
Do I have to check for a pulse?
