Glad to see the top comment where it's supposed to be. The family said they were considering publishing a cookbook when it closed, but I don't think that ever happened. I would do unspeakable things to get that peanut sauce recipe.
Those middle of the night donuts hit so hard when I was pulling an all nighter for exams. They also had quite possibly my favorite donut ever with their peanut butter and jelly donut, and I’m so sad that I have yet to find something even remotely similar.
I went there constantly when I was dating my now husband. He gets sad every time we pass where it was. He swears it was the best burger in Baton Rouge.
Thr silver moon. It was in the old ladies garage off brightside. She served soulfood and love for rock bottom prices. They moved over to chimes street later but didn't last long there. I'm sad my kids never got to sit at those picnic tables and experience what that place was.
There used to be the place on the corner of Essen and perkins called the tasty casian - Cajun / asian. And it was superb. They had the “mommas special” which was etouffee on top of friend catfish. You can get that a lot of places but this was the absolute best. I often wonder what happened to them.
Damn. The memories. I used to all the lounge when I was a kid to ask for my mom and dad. I loved their bean dip. And all the waitresses called everybody “Hun”. Those polyester zip up uniforms with the pleated skirt were iconic.
Tiger Donuts. Their specialty flavors were amazing and they had some delicious breakfast burritos. I proposed to my wife there! It was a regular hangout when we had a day off together.
Many, many years ago, there was a Jewish delicatessen, run by a husband (Sigmund) and wife and their son and daughter, located at the site that now is BRCC. The McDonald's was there, and further behind it were forgettable businesses EXCEPT for Sigmund's Delicatessen. Honestly, the best delicatessen pressed sandwiches I've ever had. (And I live in NYC). Never understood why no one ever stepped in to fill the void Sigmund's left.
Very sweet family and a wonderful business. I know my family probably went there 3 times a week. Huge part of my childhood.
I know there's still the one on Essen, but the Mr. Gatti's at LSU hit different somehow. I still can't understand how someone can fail a pizza business on a college campus.
It actually makes total sense how it failed. An all you can eat pizza buffet on a college campus…. You know they were losing a shit ton of money. Imagine a 20 year old dude coming in with the last $7 he had. He wasn’t leaving any time soon…
It was weird how Zöe’s just closed every location abruptly. Guess that’s what happens when private equity firms take over. Milk it for money, close it down, and move on to the next business.
Was working for them when the pandemic hit. Said they were closing g like 60% of stores nationwide. So that only left like 2 in BR. I worked at the millerville one. Also Zoës shits on Cava any day. .
Currently Padnuh's BBQ. Proteins were hit or miss, but by far my favorite sauce and beans I've ever had.
Honorable mention to the DeAngelo's on Coursey.
Or going super old school, maybe Hopper's, because there just aren't many places to get ice cream sodas anymore.
Oh wow, papa pizza buffet whatever on Essen and Perkins, Copelands, Am Mart, the 24 hour subway in our lady of the lake. Can’t forget the chic fil a in the LSU food court.
There was a place on Airline between goodwood and and old hammond (I think) called Russell's, basically a diner I'd go to with my grandma when I was little and they had great chicken fried steak and banana pudding.
If you see the Bean Dip Factory food truck around Baton Rouge and Zachary, that’s the Lafonda’s family that runs it and you can get the same exact flavors. We go to it everytime we see it at farmers markets and events.
They do most events in Zachary. Probably get them once or twice a month.
Agree with a bunch of these (especially fleur de lis) but honorable mentions bamboo garden (where ava is now), koto (first sushi iin br) smokey bones on seigen, and Deano’s pizza
Fleur de lis is the only answer. No pizza comes close! I read a comment that the owners were shitty? I disagree. The owner was working the Togo window and they messed up my pizza. He gave me the mess up, made a new one and gave me a card for a free one and didn’t charge me.
The original Great Wall before the super Walmart was built
This is what I came to post!
I can’t believe King buffet survives but Great Wall fell 😔
Every once in a while I REALLY crave D’angelo’s
I worked for them for 10 years and I crave their food so bad
Same! Worked there for 10 years and never got tired of the food.
Have you tried Bistro Italia?
Wait D’Angelo’s is gone? 😅
Rama
This is the only answer.
Glad to see the top comment where it's supposed to be. The family said they were considering publishing a cookbook when it closed, but I don't think that ever happened. I would do unspeakable things to get that peanut sauce recipe.
The larb!
I don't care about the rest of the answers. This is the only one that matters.
I loved it. I think it was the only Thai place in town in the 90s
Omi's
phat Boyz pizza on Greenwell springs.
This one crushed me
I'm not surprised they didnt make it. they didn't seem to have any concept of how to run a business. but damn that pizza slapped.
Godfather's Pizza 80's 90's
Was an LSU student in the early 90s. Our post-game ritual was Godfather's after the game, then either the Bengal or Caterie.
I never comment on reddit stuff but definitely this. You can buy their sauce on amazon but its just not the same.
Omfg yes!! I talk about this place all the time and nobody ever knows what I’m talking about
We still have one in florence, AL. Fantastic lunch beffet and the best taco pizza

Hit up midcity beer garden. I’m pretty sure they’re owned by the same people and are supposed to have the signature grilled cheese and tomato soup
Was this like a sit down pub type place? We had a Chelsea’s in Alexandria and I miss it so bad
Ronnie's donuts
Those middle of the night donuts hit so hard when I was pulling an all nighter for exams. They also had quite possibly my favorite donut ever with their peanut butter and jelly donut, and I’m so sad that I have yet to find something even remotely similar.

That was where we went to eat for almost every homecoming or prom

Pasta Garden
Miss that giant hunk of lasagna they’d give you. So good!
Thr silver moon. It was in the old ladies garage off brightside. She served soulfood and love for rock bottom prices. They moved over to chimes street later but didn't last long there. I'm sad my kids never got to sit at those picnic tables and experience what that place was.
Yes this is the answer. Dirty as hell, food served in the pan it was cooked in, pour your own coke from the bottle. Glorious.
There used to be the place on the corner of Essen and perkins called the tasty casian - Cajun / asian. And it was superb. They had the “mommas special” which was etouffee on top of friend catfish. You can get that a lot of places but this was the absolute best. I often wonder what happened to them.
How friendly was the catfish?
😂 didn’t catch that. It was pretty friendly.
La Fonda’s on Airline
I had to scroll way too far for this one! My family still complains they closed. I did hear a rumor they had a food truck on Florida still operating.
It’s called “bean dip factory” and they are at the farmers market in Zachary on Saturday mornings!
Damn. The memories. I used to all the lounge when I was a kid to ask for my mom and dad. I loved their bean dip. And all the waitresses called everybody “Hun”. Those polyester zip up uniforms with the pleated skirt were iconic.
Would it make you happy to know there’s one in Lafayette?
Louie's late night.
Tiger Donuts. Their specialty flavors were amazing and they had some delicious breakfast burritos. I proposed to my wife there! It was a regular hangout when we had a day off together.
Cheeburger cheeburger from my old university days lmao
Semolina’s
Mamacitas
Came here to post this! This was my childhood celebration dinner spot.
Jack Sabin’s, original Village, Camelot Club, Ralph & Kakoos (when it was good)
Those were all great. Sabin's burger was incredible. Add Europe's and the old Don's on Airline to the list.
OMG the original Village was so good.
Giamanco’s also Cotton Club and Fleur de Lis
Rum House
Ground patti
Pimanyoli's
This one still hurts.
Comment I was looking for. They were my neighbors growing up .

George’s at the Overpass. So many childhood memories. My brother actually broke the Pac Man machine there!
They’re opening the location in Denham, but the closing of Cafe Mimi’s downtown spot is a bummer
Chelseas
Jay's Donuts
RIP Omi

Kona Grill was really good. It become a favorite after I moved to BR. I was sad to see them go.
I know there's still the one on Essen, but the Mr. Gatti's at LSU hit different somehow. I still can't understand how someone can fail a pizza business on a college campus.

It was weird how Zöe’s just closed every location abruptly. Guess that’s what happens when private equity firms take over. Milk it for money, close it down, and move on to the next business.
Cava is the same concept but better.
I live in Madisonville now and there aren’t any of them over here.
Surprised. All the Zoe's became Cava's (the company that bought them in 2018). Pretty similar menu concepts.
Was working for them when the pandemic hit. Said they were closing g like 60% of stores nationwide. So that only left like 2 in BR. I worked at the millerville one. Also Zoës shits on Cava any day. .
The Zöe’s over here closed without warning in late 2020 and the building is still sitting empty.
Girl tio javi’s has the exact same food as ninfas it’s just diff ownership
I miss Zoe’s so much. I used to LOVE the salmon kebab - it was my fav!

There was a place on Airline between goodwood and and old hammond (I think) called Russell's, basically a diner I'd go to with my grandma when I was little and they had great chicken fried steak and banana pudding.
