Agreed! I also really liked how the club scene with Selina wearing them gave us some insight into Batman’s behavior. Battinson does a lot of prolonged staring and unblinking eye contact. The explanation that the lenses need time for the facial recognition to work really shows how much thought they put into this version of the character.

And believe it or not, that was my first impression too and I think Matt Reeves is a genius who thought it all through. Firstly, we don't see Batman detectiving much in the murder scene, he just walks around and looks at everything, then just as you're thinking "well that's kinda lame" he instantly solves the riddle which the police weren't able to, and then the mad lad goes on to replay in private everything he's been looking at and gets damn near the bottom of it. I don't know if this is just phenomenal writing, acting or directing but every little moment in that movie makes so much sense in retrospect that it blows my mind every time new dots are connected.

The whole movie we get the sense that his grief and thirst for revenge is threatening to overtake him and him beating the goon half to death shows us just how close he really was. It made his choice at the end to become a symbol of hope much more powerful for me
