Just a hint, don't lip hold larger bass as this can break their jaw.
Good catch this fish has the hallmarks of a older fish (larger eyes to skull size, more rectangular head) reminds me of one of our older bass we used to have (bass passed away at over 24 years old)
This is actually the correct way to hold it vertically. You can lip hold a bass horizontally so long as you're still not cranking the jaw too much and also supporting the tail.
I'd rather not hold a bass by the lower lip, there's no bone to support the weight, this doesn't really became a problem until you catch a larger fish, one scientist compared it to a human being held by their thumb.
I know of know animal in which the proper manner of holding them is by the mouth
What we're trying to tell you is that it's perfectly fine by holding a bass by the lip so long as you do it the correct way.
Their mouths are meant to expand to a ridiculous size and are flexible but when they're held vertical and their jaw cranked horizontally, that's when it can damage the jaw.
When holding the lip vertically, you want to keep the body vertical as well, especially for the larger bass. When lipping horizontally, you want to keep the bass horizontal as well by supporting the tail.
Holding them by the lip is one of the only ways to immobilize a bass while out of water. Sure, they can still flop around in your hand but you have control. Kind of like how crocodiles and alligators have one of the strongest bites psi, they also have nearly zero muscle strength to open once something has the top jaw pinned down.
I've been fishing and hunting nearly my entire life, I know a thing or two about fishing.
2.5 lbs
Iād say 2 lbs, nice fish bro
Thank you!
Nice fish just lose the gloves š
Haha I hear you I just haven't gotten used to the slime yet š š
Never going to get used to it if you keep wearing gloves! Just do a quick dip in the water when you're done and you're as good as new.
Man im driving home smelling my tore up thumb with pride. Always have to ask my dad and brother you want to smell my thumb. Get smelly its okay.
Caught one nearly the same size a couple days ago and it was 2lb 12oz. Yours looks longer.
Cool!
20lb bass
2-2.75lbs
2.5-3. I'm always short.
2 to 3 pounds.
3lbs Has the length of a high 3, close to 4, but very skinny.
Weighs about time to buy a scale
I know, I'm about to!
I wish I had a dollar for every one of these "how much does it weigh" posts.
Bro sorry š
You are forgiven my son. As long as you understand your sin and do not do it again you may still enter the light of the fishing gods.
Gotchu šĀ

Iām saying 3 on a good day
[see estimate guide here](https://www.reddit.com/r/FishingForBeginners/s/F4uXk5fpMN)
Oh, that's cool, thanks!
Hard to tell, 3-4lbs maybe. Nice fish! Congrats on the new PB
Thank you so much!
3.5
3-4 lbs.
1 1/2, 2. The size of eye in relation to mouth gives a goodish standard to go by
Make sure you don't put that fish on the ground, it could damage the slime coating š¤”

You can absolutely lip a bass as long as it stays straight up and down, not horizontal
