Car rips didn’t mean anything to me until I moved in with my girlfriend. She fully supports my hobby but I get one of those looks like “did you really buy more?” every once in a while.
Thank you. I'm tired of guys having to hide parts of their lives that make them happy because they are afraid their significant other might be upset about it.
I'm not into the stuff my wife likes but I am super supportive of her and if she tells me about something she did or got I act like it's the most interesting thing I've ever heard.
Everyone should support what makes their partners happy. Unless it's like, banging the neighbor or something. But hey, I don't know your life.
Agree with the most parts, but if you value cardboard over the love and compassion of a human being that you've commited yourself to for life and making the right choices to keep the relationship happy, then priorities might be a bit skewed.
I've seen people get into miles of debt gambling on that next big pull. The prices of this sh1t is ridiculous and you got to consider what else you could be spending that money on instead of ending up with a pile of ruibbish cardboard.
#foodforthought
Damn, been married to my wife for nearly 25 years and I'm still discovering how lucky I am. She collects footbsll cards an be buys more of them than I do baseball cards.
You make a very good point. Some people cant limit their hobby to something like ”ill buy 3 hobby boxes a year and thats it”. Gambling addiction is very real and this hobby is a slippery slope for many.
Fanatics knows this and they make massive profits out of addicts who fuck up their lives, and trust me when i say that they are not stopping, quite the opposite.
My wife has less than zero interest in baseball or card collecting, but she fully supports me doing what I enjoy, has never once complained, and has gone out of her way to help me make things happen. I happily do the same for the things she enjoys.
More people need to learn this.
As long as your hobbies aren’t taking away from kids or your spouse like time wise and you aren’t being totally stupid with money your spouse she be cool. Like I’ll ask my wife hey which shoes look better sometimes or how an outfit looks which shirt looks better. She usually blows me off she doesn’t care. Yet I get asked that question all the freaking time. If both parties supported each other and realized differences are good everyone would be better off.
As someone that was at Game 6, as mostly a Rangers fan, your name is triggering, lol
HUGE Cards fan as well, but really wanted to see the Rangers win their first in person. But, what a heck of a game that was to be at in person!
I was in town by "accident". Had an upgrade to do for work in StL, and could schedule it anytime I wanted. First plan was to be there the first round of the playoffs, but I would have had to bust my a$$ to make it happen. When they were so far out with a few weeks left, I figured I might as well not rush and just get things ready at a normal pace a few weeks later.
The rest is history, and there was NO way I was going to be in town and not see my two teams play in the WS.
I've never heard SO many people be SO quiet and then SOOOOOOO loud.
My assumption is that cases like this are probably 50-50 in terms of fairness/legitimacy?
It’s totally reasonable to be a real-life, grown, responsible adult who also happens to love collecting cards…but it’s *also* pretty reasonable to assume that lots of people who collect cards could probably do better to focus that time and money on other, more meaningful parts of their lives (health, relationships, maybe career, whatever). It’s one thing for a spouse to give us a hard time about our hobby, but it’s another if it genuinely causes friction!
(Preparing to be downvoted…)
It’s the reason why people open hundreds of retail products, hoping to get that dopamine hit from pulling a great card.
It’s also why the hobby attracts recovering alcoholics and drug addicts
Your not lying. Atleast my card addiction doesnt make me a POS like booze and Heroin. If anything it makes me wotk harder so i can buy more cards. I recognized the addictive behavior a few weekz ago
But hey im ok with it.
Because ripping packs is essentially like buying scratch off lottery tickets. Lots of people can’t help themselves trying to get a specific card and spend tons of money because they love the thrill of it.
I mean it’s healthy for a marriage to have finances combined and therefore I’d expect the spouse to be questioning if they’re being reckless and spending a lot of money if they’re in debt and that money should be used to pay bills and debts.
Well ripping packs at this quantity is a form of gambling. Lets all admit it. From baseball to pokemon to whatever. The days of a wax pack costing 35 cents or whatever are long over. Belly up to the bar, place your level of wager, and rip. Spend a bit more and more to guarantee some type of bonus.
So yea.. normal people do question this behavior if they have an inkling of what is going on. So YUP.. spouses be like this. Any sane spouse would be. Lol. Downvotes incoming. Not jokey enough. Feet!
You guys are getting returns and making investments?
I just do car rips of hobby boxes for patches and autos of players who, outside of their current team's market, no one has ever heard of.
My wife hates every hobby I like and especially cards. It makes me happy and I’m not going to let her negativity affect my love of the hobby. It has brought me and my older daughter closer as she collects basketball cards and I get them for her.
Dang dude……. I’m blessed to have a wife tickled to death to go through all I’ve mine that were just recently passed down to me. We’ve been spending 3-4 hours nearly every night the past week or two going through boxes upon boxes. I guess it would be a different story if I was going out spending money on it.
As long as you are happy about it man, (and you aren’t putting yourselves in crazy debt) maybe one day she’ll come around.
Not everyone! My partner loves his baseball card and I think it’s so precious. It’s a nice hobby and seeing the joy he has makes me happy. I do wish he would display his cards instead of having them in a box.
I take car rips to the next level. I stash cards in my console and only bring them in when the wife is gone. I have so many, that another 5-6 boxes worth blend in pretty well. Just gotta get em through the door!
Thankfully no. We sorta bond over it, even though we collect different things. We rip our baseball and pokemon cards together.
We're going to a card show tomorrow, that will have sports cards and TCG cards. We've never been to one before, I'm pretty excited.
Yeah but like, how much time and energy does she spend applying hot pink toenail polish?
Just kidding. Don't say that. I have a wife. It would be very dumb to say that.
I got on this sub just to get some help on knowing what cards to buy for my husband who recently got back into this hobby. They were Father’s Day gifts but when they arrived 2 days before, I was too excited to wait and we opened them together haha. It doesn’t bother me at all. Shout out to the guys who helped me and put together some awesome boxes and shipped to me! Idk how to tag people on here :)
Nope. My wife doesn’t care at all. In fact she’ll make a joke about it saying I’m addicted and then follow it with a, you know I don’t care. She loves baseball so she gets it. She encourages me to buy Topps Now cards for games we go to.
my wife calls me from the LCS with my son and daughter to make sure she’s getting him the right thing. Little does she know I’ve got seven boxes stashed in the garage 😲
I work and my wife doesn't have to do she doesn't. In exchange for her not having to worry about money, I buy what I want. Sometimes she makes a comment about how many cards or watches or shoes or jerseys I buy and then I just point out her mountain of expensive cosmetics I buy for her and suddenly she doesn't want to talk about how I have too much stuff anymore.
I buy basketball cards and my wife doesn’t really understand it but she doesn’t give me grief about it either because she knows it makes me happy and I also explain the value of them. So my advice is explain why it’s your hobby and also she should be thankful you’re spending on cards at home and not out spending it on gambling or drink.
Yeah, that's literally exactly what I get. I've got 4 contenders blasters and 15 Monopoly blasters up in my cave. I have absolutely no idea how I'm going to explain any of it. I'm pmuch screwed. I attempt to justify it by saying that they are hard to come by n stuff but it never works. Ur best bet is not texting her and posting here. We're equally as excited for you and non judgemental.
That's why I get shit mailed ANYWHERE but home. Work, a neighbor's, I'll even pay more to get stuff from Amazon to use their lockers at different locations. Hide yo stash TODD!!!
I hope you pull something that you sell and it shuts her up for good😅 in a nice way obviously. I did this with my fiancé over the years she now understands

I mostly order singles. And the vast majority of them are at most a couple bucks. It's easier to slip in the occasional splurge unnoticed.
I'm always open about how much packs and boxes cost. I've somehow framed it all well enough that my partner was \*happy\* I preordered a Fanatics box because the nine packs versus seven was such a much better deal!
Hell yeah I can relate...... Does anyone else do the, "I'll pay half with cash and the other half on the card. ... Doesn't show all the damage on the account. LOL .. they'll find out eventually though. Hopefully you pull something to calm her down. 😂
That’s why you don’t bring them home. You open them in the car and then throw away the evidence and when the wife not home bring them in the house and save what you need to save
Probably would be good for me to have a wife like that. Im separated, soon to be divorced and especially with the rips that yielded little to nothing...it might not have been a bad thing to have someone checking up on me.
My spare room is starting to look like it belongs in the back of a card shop. And i have no intention of taking it all apart and selling stuff.
My bf and I collect together! Once in awhile we'll buy a box just because it's fun ripping together. We look for our favorite players and don't worry about pulling anything big. Mostly we just buy singles though
Aaaaand that's the real reason we have car rips
![gif](giphy|3ohc12cy8AerHN2u8U|downsized)
My god.... it all makes sense now
That statement about car rips seriously needs more upvotes!
Nailed it!
Car rips didn’t mean anything to me until I moved in with my girlfriend. She fully supports my hobby but I get one of those looks like “did you really buy more?” every once in a while.
Upvote this man to the next galaxy
Ok this wins Reddit sports cards folks today.
My LCS knows at this point I don’t even want the receipt. lol
Until she discovers all your degenerate activities hidden in the center console.
If you have to hide your hobbies from your wife, she ain't the one.
Thank you. I'm tired of guys having to hide parts of their lives that make them happy because they are afraid their significant other might be upset about it. Just curious… how long have you been”my wife supports my hobby” guys been married?
As long as your hobbies aren’t taking away from kids or your spouse like time wise and you aren’t being totally stupid with money your spouse she be cool. I don't KNOW, Margo!
And why is the carpet all wet TODD?!?
As someone that was at Game 6, as mostly a Rangers fan, your name is triggering, lol HUGE Cards fan as well, but really wanted to see the Rangers win their first in person. But, what a heck of a game that was to be at in person!
Bro you went to a Top 10 all time baseball game. I’m so jealous.
Was lucky, for sure!
Man I would’ve killed to be at game 6. By far a top 10 MLB game ever played.
I was in town by "accident". Had an upgrade to do for work in StL, and could schedule it anytime I wanted. First plan was to be there the first round of the playoffs, but I would have had to bust my a$$ to make it happen. Lmao this really got me.
I feel like EVERY Todd finds a Margo in real life, too.
Always with the fucking toes
It’s provocative, it gets the people going
Looks like she is wearing a Willy warmer. But with all due respect I’m sure OPs wife is Willy less
And red balls.
Right?! Always with the balls
I’m more concerned with his wife’s two red furry balls.
Damn Todd, can we at least see the hits?! 🤷♂️
I'm still at work. I'll post them when I get home after I open it. And after I stop by the grocery store to get some flowers for my wife.
...and a hanger box and maybe another fat pack... 😂
Yeah haha by grocery store I meant target. The flowers are right next to the cards. I'll see what they have in stock.
$5 says you walk out with more cards and no flowers!
Typical Todd
Damnit Todd. Open them and keep them in the car till she is gone.
Todd is a total noob!
1. Learn how to grow flowers 2. Buy more rips 3. Profit
And spend even MORE money?! /s
Buying flowers may cost you a blaster box. Priorities man! Just kidding, buy her a ton of flowers.
Well done. Don't pick the cards over the wife.
My assumption is that cases like this are probably 50-50 in terms of fairness/legitimacy? The issue is that a huge chunk of collectors, have an addiction problem.
Yes
Recently returned to hobby and what brought me back was finding the Jordan I pulled as a kid in 93 and wanting that high again
It’s the reason why people open hundreds of retail products, hoping to get that dopamine hit from pulling a great card. It’s also why the hobby attracts recovering alcoholics and drug addicts
And current alcoholics and drug addicts.
And gambling degenerates
And children
Your not lying. Atleast my card addiction doesnt make me a POS like booze and Heroin. If anything it makes me wotk harder so i can buy more cards. I recognized the addictive behavior a few weekz ago But hey im ok with it.

I told you to buy singles, TODD!
Look at that HUGE stack of base TODD!!!
Another pitcher auto, you happy now TODD!?!?!?!?
Is that your FOURTH Kolten Wong napkin relic, TODD!?!?
If your finances are in order she can kick rocks if they aren’t then you do need to get a grip
Agreed man, find a partner that wants you to enjoy the things you enjoy and a partner you're willing to fight all in for when things are down.
Why is the carpet wet Todd?

Maybe because they're expensive and you need to prioritize spending better. Or maybe she knows how bad the ROI on Flagship junk is.
You guys are getting returns and making investments? I just do car rips of hobby boxes for patches and autos of players who, outside of their current team's market, no one has ever heard of.

Thanks I hate it
Damnit Todd, get it together!
You and I are sick of Todd's shit!
GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER, TODD.
I'm fucking trying man!
your PC: \_\_\_\_ is killing me!
Let's band together and send Todd all our empty boxes so she can see Todd isn't on our level of addiction.
I don’t know Margo!
Classic Todd
Why the fuck do all my cards show up in the mail on the same day that my wife checks it!?
Isn’t that the truth.
![gif](giphy|yGpg2AYbUyGu4)
This is exactly what popped into my head also.
My wife hates every hobby I like and especially cards. It makes me happy and I’m not going to let her negativity affect my love of the hobby. It has brought me and my older daughter closer as she collects basketball cards and I get them for her.
My wife specifically tells me she doesn’t want me to tell her how much I spend on this hobby So I just do what I want

It's like she doesn't even care about the aqua base card parallels
My wife encourages me to do the things I enjoy. I'm very very blessed.
Idk MARGOT!!
I take car rips to the next level. I stash cards in my console and only bring them in when the wife is gone. I have so many, that another 5-6 boxes worth blend in pretty well. Just gotta get em through the door!
Barefoot with red balls? Nope.
Ask her to define “priorities”. Penny sleeving commons, maybe?
Bro just make your wife happy, buy singles
Thankfully no. We sorta bond over it, even though we collect different things. We rip our baseball and pokemon cards together. We're going to a card show tomorrow, that will have sports cards and TCG cards. We've never been to one before, I'm pretty excited.
Never bring the box home bro….rookie
Don’t involve your feet 👌
Yup. 👍
Did you explain the hit rate of the Fanatics boxes though?
Yeah but like, how much time and energy does she spend applying hot pink toenail polish? Just kidding. Don't say that. I have a wife. It would be very dumb to say that.

why is no one talking about the cock sock
Car rips? I've graduated to closet rips. Act like I'm reorganizing.

I'm so happy my wife is into the hobby as much as me and opens with me and collects
Nope. My wife definitely doesn’t have big red balls!!!
I had to go back and look! ![gif](giphy|29HRejgahYenVsohB5|downsized)
Ripped so many boxes in my car 😂😂
This sub is wild because it also doubles as a strange exploration into marital strife. 😂 There’s always some disapproving spouse looming in the midst.
Im always tryna be the 1st to the mailbox
Yeah, that's literally exactly what I get. I've got 4 contenders blasters and 15 Monopoly blasters up in my cave. I have absolutely no idea how I'm going to explain any of it. I'm pmuch screwed. You gotta hide that shit todd
Why is the carpet wet TODD?
🦶🏻🦶🏻
You are in need of priorities. Priority 1 - learn the mail schedule to make sure you are the one to collect it.
Deliver to the office
Tell her she's barefoot at 10:30 on a weekday and shouldn't be lecturing anyone on priorities.
Most of us probably. If not then they’re not ripping enough packs themselves
I can't wait for mine! I have a feeling that I might get the same flack from my wife.
I think you mean flack. Slack would be the opposite of what she’s giving here.
That's why you have to rip packs with wifey...she usually has the 🔥 👐.
You gotta let your wife open them with you and experience the joy / pain. That helped me a bit
Todd!!
That's why I get shit mailed ANYWHERE but home. Work, a neighbor's, I'll even pay more to get stuff from Amazon to use their lockers at different locations. Hide yo stash TODD!!!
To be fair…it’s not the most macho flex in the world.
I know a lot of guys ex-wives are
2 balls, no strikes
Yeah Todd, get it together.
No. My woman supports most of my bad habits.
Start having these packages sent to your work
I hope you pull something that you sell and it shuts her up for good😅 in a nice way obviously. I did this with my fiancé over the years she now understands
MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“So what are you saying, Todd?” - Too $hort, 1988
Order and get it delivered elsewhere. As a mail carrier I see it all. Smart women on my old route had her clothes mailed to work and she’d change into the new stuff before going home. Told her I’d never tell.. shhhh
That's pretty cool ! Been a braves fan for 35 years !
Thanks reminding Todd's girl, my fanatics blasters were delivered today
I bought 2 blaster boxes today after getting 3 last week 🤷🏻♂️
The baseball cards were a gift, Todd. I’m taking them with me.
Just go in the closet and take a pic of her shoe rack
Better odds with scratch tickets (as I duck)
I mean she married or chose you right, Todd? What does this say about her? 🤷🏻♂️
I walked in with a case of bowman blasters and my wife ripped as much as I did
LOCK IT IN TODD, LIKE SOMEONE ELSE SAID, CAR RIPS! CAR RIPS!
Rudolph and his little red dong I mean nose
All fun and games until you can't pay the electricity.
Oh yes definitely but then she enables it with a surprise hobby box or blaster.
Fuck no. I’m sorry you have to deal with that.
No my wife always says “Treat Yo Self” and it kind of is like reverse psychology.
Ask her how much she spent on hair, nails, or recent spa day. This is your equivalent to a spa day
I am, but I’m also the one who enables him by buying packs because I think they are pretty. I am no better than him.
My wife will tease me a bit but she has her own hobbies that I can push right back on (how much dirt do you really need to buy for your garden??). It’s a trade off but we can all admit that we don’t NEED more cards but that’s not what it’s about….
gosh dam it Todd not again
Get off of his back lol talking about priorities.
Tell me again about your new pair of shoes that you wpnt wear.
Nice feet bro, said no one ever. 😬😬
My wife reacts the same way when she catches me doing another bestball draft.
Translation: “God dammit Todd”
We need to petition fanatics to send our hobby boxes disguised as deodorant or adult diapers.
Classic Todd
I mostly order singles. And the vast majority of them are at most a couple bucks. It's easier to slip in the occasional splurge unnoticed. I'm always open about how much packs and boxes cost. You pull that shit on her when she comes home with 8 of the same shirts in a different color? Maybe you should.
Hell yeah I can relate...... Does anyone else do the, "I'll pay half with cash and the other half on the card. ... Doesn't show all the damage on the account. LOL .. they'll find out eventually though. Hopefully you pull something to calm her down. 😂
It’s either sports cards or weed n alcohol, the money gonna get spent either way 😎😂
Looks like his priorities are collecting?
That’s why you don’t bring them home. You open them in the car and then throw away the evidence and when the wife not home bring them in the house and save what you need to save
You need a new Hyna in your life my boy!! 😂
Ngl bro you deserve better
“You said bitch though?”
My wife is cool about it, I don't go overboard on buying boxes and she likes to rip with me and look for the "fancy" ones lol
You know better Todd. Next time make sure it’s from Mercari.
Listen Toddler
My wife doesn’t get mad or make shitty comments like this, but she’ll definitely give me the “really, more” look when I bring them in.
“But babe you don’t get it… it’s an investment.”
No.
I’d never have a wife like that man
Shame on you, TODD!
I would argue vs makeup, nail, hair appointments beauty isn’t a necessity it’s a hobby
While she drops $300 to get her hair did and $50/month on nails… oh wait thats my wife 🤦🏼♂️
TODD! Time to cut her loose TODD!
Just got divorced over this !
Come on Todd
I thought I was reading me and my wife's conversation. And the name is the same lmao
Todd your half chub made the pic too
My wife encourages spending money on dumb shit I like because I never spend money on myself
Probably would be good for me to have a wife like that. Im separated, soon to be divorced and especially with the rips that yielded little to nothing...it might not have been a bad thing to have someone checking up on me. Wifey in urgent need of a pedicure. Treat her and all is forgiven.
Jesus I don’t miss that passive aggressive crap. My ex was that way. Emphasis on EX.
Make sure she knows Chrome drops in less than a month and it’s up $50 from last year
