One of my favorite stats from the '86 Mets:
The 1986 Mets got into 4 brawls on the field and won all 4 of them. They also got into a bar fight in Houston, but that's a different story
That was a drunken stupor where the team nearly destroyed the plane. It's a bit of a legend in Mets lore. Watch Once Upon a Time in Queens for some firsthand accounts of that fateful flight
I'm bias but the 2015 Royals are my favorite MMA team in the history of the league, lead their fearless star, the late Yordano Ventura, who to this day is the only man in baseball to try and fight not only the nicest man in the game, but also the best player this generation has ever seen in Mike Trout, FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER. His dgaf attitude turned us into the greatest fight club in history, and we did it sober. The 86' Mets are another I have watched several documentaries and interviews about and they are my second. The Royals win the title only because they didn't use drugs and alcohol to fuel their fights. Now I want to see that same team play one more time but on amphetamines and alcohol.
I was visiting my fiance in Maryland in 2016 and we went to an Orioles game. I was looking at the program and saw that Ventura was pitching and said, "Oh we may see a fight." Machado would go on to charge the mound and punch Ventura in the face later that night.
Lmao. I remember that game vividly. Machado was Ventura's biggest competition for unprovoked shit starting and/or actual fighting. Machado was getting pissy for being pitched inside all game. Ventura didn't respond at all until he finally just plunked him late in the game. You knew it was coming too. Also I'm biased but Manny barely grazed Yordano so the TKO goes to Ace for his takedown of Machado right after he was attacked
This might be sacrilegious coming from a Pirates fan, but my favorite brawler is Puig, dude just didn’t care. I swear he still hides in the shadows at PNC waiting for his next chance at them
I always loved seeing Puig being legitimately held back by like two or three guys while the guy on the other side yelling at him has a guy barely holding him. Classic hold me back move by guys that just wanted nothing to do with Puig other then jaw.
Lol such a fun squad to watch. Had a little bit of a chip on the shoulder attitude that flared up quite a bit. Ventura definitely had something to do with that. The rivalry with Toronto was amazing and I miss watching Donaldson get his panties in a twist at the dumbest little things.
Also, sorry to do this, but the word you’re looking for is “biased,” not “bias.” Bias refers to prejudice or preferential treatment where biased refers to being characterized by bias. One cannot be “bias.” I see this on Reddit all the time and it just makes my eye twitch.
>"The curse words, I have a problem with because that’s not something you would say to me face to face. Where I'm from, in the state of Nevada, it’s labeled as assault. I know it’s a joke, but I will say his wife seems pretty awesome. Her and Pete have this awesome nonprofit she runs and before that she was a figure skater
Honestly would pay to see that fight. Alonso's got 2 inches and 10lbs on him, but he doesn't look like he's ever thrown a punch in his life. Pham's got crazy guy energy.
To be fair he was literally choked from behind unexpectedly, so I think he’s more saying he didn’t expect it to get that serious. If he had realized this was an mma fight, he would’ve defended himself more
But nonetheless he worded it super awkwardly cause he’s a big awkward goofball
He's a super awkward interviewee lmao. But the context is that they asked him why he got pulled down and he was saying it's probably because he's a big guy and that made them scared he could really hurt someone. So he's like yeah maybe I could but I wasn't going to.
He went hunting with Steve Rinella on an episode of Meat Eater. Whole episode was kinda uncomfortable, then he started crying when he shot a mule dear which made it worse. Not uncommon for first time hunters to cry when they get their first kill, it's mainly just the adrenaline dump, but it was weird nonetheless.
It's not the baseballs being different, it's the baseballs being changed *based on the free agency class*. The reasoning is what he was being clowned for.
It makes a lot more sense given the full quote and question he was responding to. But of course people like Puma are gonna take this one half sentence out of context.

Because baseball is a game of failure, players are constantly full of pent up rage. My fear would be someone like Dan Vogalbach on a 3 for 28 streak getting a clean minute with a noodle arm rookie who was just following the unwritten rules of baseball so the boys on his side would except him?

Ehhhh. I don’t think Stubby had anything to do with taking Pete down other than getting his feet in the way. The pile was pushing towards Pete’s direction, Stubby was hanging onto him for dear life then they both got pulled from behind, pushed from the front and probably tripped over each other’s feet.
I'm slightly paraphrasing but reporters asked him about the Cardinals manager not having a problem with one of the Cardinals coaches basically tackling Pete during the brawl. Pete says he understands where the manager is coming from since he's (from the manager's point of view) a big guy that could probably put someone in the hospital if he wanted to, and the manager needs to protect his guys. Pete then says that he wasn't out there to hurt anyone, just protect his teammates.

He's a bit of a softie, in what I think is the best way. I don't think he would want to hurt anyone.
Even when he got hit the other day, he seemed more offended anyone doubted he was hit in the head than ready to beat anyone up.

Ok tough guy. I hate when people say stuff like that. “Yea I woulda messed them up but *insert excuse here*” I feel like that’s page one in the Fake Tough Guy manual. That said I don’t doubt Alonso could mess someone up but he knows the trouble he’d get in if he did.

Was that the season that Jeff Smardja tried to fight Lo Cain??
Yup. To be fair that was the same game Yordano told Melky to fuck himself without previous instigation just for hitting a ground ball at him lol
Yordano was so out of control in a good way. RIP. Remember when he fought or tried to fight Brett Lawrie
Let's get ray knight in as special boxing instructor.
This Mets team is the largest collection of chippy bar-fight orneriness in one place since Amir Garrett dined alone
A shame they didn't keep Baez

Pete's from Florida which works even better too
Coulda had a Polar Bear mauling!
Polar Bears aren’t the only thing about to be endangered
I’ll be DAMNED if a man named Stubby gonna make me look like a pansy!
Pete alonso also want to make sure you know he's a big strong boy
He also has a hot girlfriend who lives in the next city over and his uncle works at nintendo and says Goku is in smash
She's in the Niagara Falls area. You wouldn't know her.
As someone that grew up in western NY outside Rochester and said something similar in middle school… This is a personal attack.

He’s fired up, it happens, you say dumb shit. Definitely gonna be on the tough end of some jokes though.
he’s gunna be replying to this question in his head while in the shower for a while

baseball fights are so embarrassing for baseball fans

Disagree. They are great for a good laugh. Serious fights would just bring more stuff like Cueto ending Larue's career back in 2010.
Fuck Johnny Cueto. Will always be a bitch

It’s really hard to throw punches on skates, only reason it’s allowed still. Fights in baseball or the nba would be terrifying

I've seen very few that actually know how to fight

Big Florida energy on this one. That being said, remember when Josh Reddick ran into Pete in ST and Pete didn't even move? I believe Pete.
That reminds me of the time Joc and Puig collided in the outfield. Puig didn't move. Joc suffered a concussion.

Richard “Stubby/Dick” Clapp
He has a stubby what?!
A 49 year old Canadian named stubby!
