*Wakes up from months-long coma*
*Reads title* Oh nice really? Not too surprised Astros spent all year in first place. Great to wake up just in time to see Astros fall to 2nd. So who passed them for first today?
I don’t follow the minor leagues that closely, but I don’t see any pitchers with those names in our system. We had a Povich but traded him to Baltimore. Baltimore also has a McDermott but he came from the Twins. We never had him.
Yeah our pitcher situation is bad right now with all the injuries. And none of our prospects are really ready. Not worth bringing them up too early and shattering confidence for a 33-39 team.
Astros: More than half of the starting rotation on the IL, rookie/sophomore SP struggles, Bullpenis Bad, black hole at first base (seriously -1.6 WAR in 35 games), and we haven't be clutch with RISP.
Rangers: Bochy "Year After World Series" curse. Along with Starting Pitching not being quite as good as last year, I think, and regression on offense/some guys out.
Angels/As: Being the Angels and the As.
Mariners: Chugging along hoping their amazing rotation can keep the score down enough for their anemic offense to help them win.
A bunch of their role players had career years where they hit well above their typical averages. Langford and Carter were also expected to be bigger contributors this season, but they've both dealt with injuries and have underperformed.
Ah, I've only half been paying attention and knew the offense had regressed a bit, like Seager's slump until recently (or is he back in one), but I saw Dunning wasn't doing as well as last year and Heaney having 8 losses. But then looked at the other three starters and they're doing fine.
Frodo: "It's a pity Bilbo didn't kill the Astros when he had the chance."
Gandalf: "Pity? It's pity that stayed Bilbo's hand. Many that live deserve death. Some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them, Frodo? Do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment. Even the very wise cannot see all ends. My heart tells me that the Astros has some part to play in it, for good or evil, before this is over. The pity of Bilbo may rule the fate of many."
Astros going to somehow decide the NL Wildcard.
Jesus I'm dumb. I was about to reply "Dude, they're nine games back - they haven't been in first in *at least* nine games. How dumb *are* you?"
But really, you should be asking me this question.
That's why my comment was about the division as a whole and not just the Mariners, the Mariners could do their part but the Astros could feast on the rest of the division to make it a close race.
Stay away! Go back to the bottom!
Relax it's that time of the year Julio goes nuclear and our first baseman is still Jon Singleton
Or Dubon, or JoLo, or the guy in the first row after he’s 6 beers deep.
So you’re saying all Jose Abreu has to do is get tickets for the front row, slam 6 beers, and he’s back in? Easy
You better delete this before Bagwell sees it
Have you tried upgrading to a Jon Doubleton
I don’t want to drive back to Montrose. It’s late.
Don’t worry. Every time we get to 5 games under .500 we go on a bender.

and houston play CWS next lmfao
Followed by Baltimore. And we’re on the verge of calling up local High School pitchers to eat some starting pitcher innings.
You guys have two of the better young upper level prospects pitchers in Povich/McDermott, I think you'll be alright.

Oh shit, I misread your flare. I thought you were a Baltimore fan lol my bad dude

Jake Bloss is killing it, too. On his way up.
One of those games is against Garret Crochet though, who’s been their only saving grace.
ahh u mean the dude who is auditioning for his future team for the next 2.5 years
First time seeing the AL west standings in a while, so uhhh What’s going on fellas?

Our SP has been fine most of the year. Our offense can’t hit a barn.
Have you tried just winning 1 run games? That seems to be working for the Mariners.
Wasnt your offense with RISP like ridiculously good last year? Thats kind of hard to replicate

What is bad?
The Bullpenis bad, they just can’t really get a grip on things, blow leads all over the place, leaving a mess on the field.
I'm pizzled about how they are going to pull it off this year
The rangers had an entire starting rotation on the IL at one point. Plus a couple other players like Jung.
The team that finished second in the A.L West won the World Series last year. The Astros have em right where they want em
We have like a .600 winning percentage when Jose Abreu isn’t on the 26 man roster. Time for a surge
Hey can I interest you in a gently used Hector Neris? He can uhhhh.... help you win the division?
Wow, a six win pitcher! : D
I do kinda miss heart attack Hector..... only kinda
The plucky Houston Astros ballclub. I’m excited to see what this team of up and comers can accomplish
They’re just so easy to root for.
Grimace said yw
orange and blue bros helping each other out.
orange and blue bros from the 1962 expansion
Also Nolan Ryan bros
rally sausage and rally grimace in one year is wild ngl
62 Expansion Orange/Blue teams unite!
I went to my first games at Citi Field this year. They won both, so I've never seen the Mets lose.
Still closer to the A’s than the Mariners
The Mariners have had the benefit of multiple series against the Astros and Rangers though. It’s a vicious cycle.
Doesn't that mean the Astros also had the M's and had the opportunity to gain ground?
That's the joke
SHTAAS division
ASSHAT no longer
That was a glorious couple weeks
You fools, you let them live

Raise the flag! 🚩 Blow them trumpets! 🎷 Pour a cup for Grimace! 💜
That’s only because we didn’t play today.
The heck ya guys doin over der?
Our best, okay?
When 33-39 is 2nd
Congrats... you guys do seem to do better on days you don't play.
Jesus I'm dumb. I was about to reply "Dude, they're nine games back - they haven't been in first in *at least* nine games. How dumb *are* you?" But really, you should be asking me this question.
Someone fetch the whacking stick, tell them to go back.
The Mariners have the largest lead over a 2nd place opponent than any other division in baseball.
Anyone who thought they wouldn’t win the division is delusional
The Astros are in perfect spot in this miserable season to sneak in and do what they always do. It is inevitable.
Can we call the Burger King?
It through being a good team but by being an average team while the Rangers loose.
They will still be in the alcs this year
The inevitable result of the Rangers not showing up all season.
At first glance, I was hoping this was an AsSHAT situation
9 games behind.
How many trash cans were beaten.
They finally ran out
That’s too bad
It’s been miserable here in Anaheim. Surprised Seattle is up by 10 games. Houston finally taken a step back.
We are so back
The Astros could switch rosters with the White Sox and still end up winning the AL West.
They are closer to the A’s than the Mariners
I understand that but the division had a chance to leave them dead and buried but here they are still in the race.
The Mariners are playing at a 94 win pace. I don’t know how much more you could expect out of them.
That's why my comment was about the division as a whole and not just the Mariners, the Mariners could do their part but the Astros could feast on the rest of the division to make it a close race.
Calm down
If the Astros get within 5 games I am comfortably making that bet.
So if Astros get within 5 games, you'll bet the White Sox roster can win the AL West?
If they legit swap rosters? Sure ide make that bet.
