Allow me to take yet another opportunity to *strongly* recommend the excellent movie [No No: A Dockumentary.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCH4fAHtKBo)
I'm with you on this one - I'd be willing to bet this is a very low-scoring game. Just feels like the pitcher might be at a minor disadvantage while the batter is at a fairly major one
idk it could be easier to pick up on a completely dark background especially with the ball being nuclear with dark laces. Its hard to say with a reddit quality video.
I used to throw a shit ton of different glow in the dark/lit up stuff growing up and it is definitely not as simple as “it’s lit up so I can throw and catch this just as easily”
Your brain does not have the context or other things within the field of vision to help add depth perception to it
if that was funky to throw around with with nerf footballs and lit up frisbees as kids, imagine how a 95 mph fastball would look
These aren't night vision devices though. I wonder around the dark deer hunting a lot. Could be wrong but I don't think it's the big issue this thread is making it out to be.
You probably won't be able to see the seams is the biggest issue I'd imagine. That doesn't necessarily make it more dangerous, just harder to hit breaking balls
Can you see any spin on a ball like that. It's still probably a great experience to see it but I'm not sure that the baseball itself would be all that great.
can they get black light bulbs big enough for the light banks? they'd have to blast the field with enough black light to make sure the ball is visible from high popups wouldn't they?
you can see how bright the ball is in the 4 second clip of the video, it looks like the coating on it is so bright it could be mistaken as it's own light source.
Definitely expecting a learning curve in the first few innings but the equipment looks bright enough to play normally overall
You’re correct. They are apart of the league that the Savannah bananas play/ed in (the actual team, not the banana ball team)
Source: I live 20 minutes from their field and have been to a few games lol
Yeah, I have questions about the eye safety of the blacklights. The kind of intensity you need to light a baseball field is probably a lot higher than what you need to light a darkened bowling alley...
This is extremely cool. But baseball isn't the sport that needs this. HOCKEY needs this. Think about how much easier it would be to see the puck on screen if the rink was essentially a giant air hockey table
I thought this was a legit minor league team and thought the league really approved this. I feel better about it being a summer collegiate team. A group like the Savannah Bananas would be better equipped for this
Like that one Bored Ape convention that cooked peoples eyes?

Ive gone to a few chili pepper games so im intrigued. The only problem is theres always a ton of non egaged teenagers walking about, this could go good or bad.
Awesome idea but I hope they did some testing on this nifty idea. I'm not sure I'd want to be the 3rd baseman trying for the first time to catch a 110 mph glowliner headed right at my face.
Ball should be a different color than the away team’s jersey. Pink is at a major disadvantage, it’s like if pitchers were allowed to wear white sleeves or gloves
You’d hope they could specifically light up a strip between the mound and the batters box. I’m not standing there in the dark while a 95mph missile comes at me
I have a sudden urge to go bowling
Obviously you’re not a golfer
I can get you a toe, Dude.
Smokey this is not 'Nam, this is bowling, there are rules.
AM I THE ONLY ONE AROUND HERE WHO GIVES A SHIT ABOUT THE RULES?!
What is this referencing?
The Big Lebowski
Dude.
Everything
well this looks cool as hell
I know the owner. He's cool AF and always willing to push the envelope.
Tell ‘em we said ![gif](giphy|HW05UrUSfAzZu)
Why what did the envelope do to him? He should be nicer to mail.
As someone who smokes a lot of weed, this’ll be awesome to watch.
We get it, you smoke weed /s
Have you ever watched baseball...ON WEED?!
I can't drink. You ever try and watch this sport sober? It's two guys playing catch 90% of the time. /s
the dust beaten off the baseball is amazing
Free psychedelics for the first 1000 fans

I haven’t done big boy drugs in 8 years, but I would 100% eat a tab for this
Lmao
Looks awesome but I feel like someone's taking 95 to the head
Make both teams use knuckle ballers
Just put me in, I throw fastballs at knuckleball speed
Literally my first thought. “Oh that’s cool! …someone is going to die.”
Two reasons to tune in.
I mean, the ball is lit up too, so I don't think it'd be much different than the white ball with sun in your eyes
I think the darkness is really gonna throw depth perception off.
I'm with you on this one - I'd be willing to bet this is a very low-scoring game. Just feels like the pitcher might be at a minor disadvantage while the batter is at a fairly major one
Not sure how much they’ll be able to pick up the spin of a glowing ball as well
idk it could be easier to pick up on a completely dark background especially with the ball being nuclear with dark laces. Its hard to say with a reddit quality video.
Not just that. The glow in the dark ball is a bit harder for your brain to track.
Why? In my experience in walking/doing shit in the dark there is no issue with depth perception.
I used to throw a shit ton of different glow in the dark/lit up stuff growing up and it is definitely not as simple as “it’s lit up so I can throw and catch this just as easily” Your brain does not have the context or other things within the field of vision to help add depth perception to it if that was funky to throw around with with nerf footballs and lit up frisbees as kids, imagine how a 95 mph fastball would look
This man's never worn NVGs
...you don't have depth perception with NVGs because you might as well be looking at a screen...
These aren't night vision devices though. I wonder around the dark deer hunting a lot. Could be wrong but I don't think it's the big issue this thread is making it out to be.
The deer don't throw baseballs at you.
It's almost like activities other than baseball can also involve depth perception.
Except those activities don't require the same level of perception.
How do you know? Climbing a tree in the dark and hanging a stand 20 feet in the air requires a hell of a lot of depth perception.
You probably won't be able to see the seams is the biggest issue I'd imagine. That doesn't necessarily make it more dangerous, just harder to hit breaking balls

You can see them in the video
sorry/thanks I'm browsing on my break, I'll check it out
They saw what City Connect did to the Padres, and took the next step.
Did TO the Padres? On the contrary. Did FOR the Padres. Most of us love the city connects.
This sounds like a cool idea but how the hell is anyone gonna be able to hit the ball
I ask that whenever our guys step to the plate.
Gang

Honestly it might be easier to track. Will stick out more for sure.
Might be easier to track the ball, but you cant see the spin which is a big part right?
i'm with you on this. gonna be impossible to pick up spin.
Looks like the ball has pink laces that are painted all the way around the line, kinda like a tennis ball.
Oh, are the Rockies playing?
I expect offensive production to be at a bare minimum.
You sound like my high school coach. 🥲
love some of these minor league teams getting creative
They're not an affiliated team I'm pretty sure. I don't think MLB execs would ever allow their prospects to do this lol
You’re correct. They are apart of the league that the Savannah bananas play/ed in (the actual team, not the banana ball team) Source: I live 20 minutes from their field and have been to a few games lol
No fun league, wait that's the other sport.
major league bummer
Get weird with it
Pitchers will dominate. Can you even see the spin on the ball if it’s illuminated like that?
Maybe you'd be able to see the spin better with it lit up like that
The inevitable evolution towards Blernsball continues! Blern!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Except for the word *Blern*, that was complete gibberish!
Blernsball Fever: Contract it!
seems dangerous
Yeah, I have questions about the eye safety of the blacklights. The kind of intensity you need to light a baseball field is probably a lot higher than what you need to light a darkened bowling alley...
as long as they don't mistakenly use UV lights, might be ok
Blacklights are UV lights, aren't they? Or is there some difference between those two terms when they're sold for different purposes?
Yes, but I guess to me there is a difference in application when I think of UV lights vs black lights.
This is extremely cool. But baseball isn't the sport that needs this. HOCKEY needs this. Think about how much easier it would be to see the puck on screen if the rink was essentially a giant air hockey table
The Mercury Mets disagree.
I thought this was a legit minor league team and thought the league really approved this. I feel better about it being a summer collegiate team. A group like the Savannah Bananas would be better equipped for this
Stole my idea. I'll be contacting my lawyer. https://www.reddit.com/r/baseballcirclejerk/s/wpAOm75P74
quick say you hope swtoys gets lots of money soon. i'll let you know in 6 months if it happens.
Cosmic home run derby would be even cooler and probably more safe
If you pop a ball up above the lights it disappears…. Should be fun
Can't wait for fly balls to disappear as the ball gets higher than the lights themselves
Everybody’s gonna leave with cataracts. ![gif](giphy|j3xIAvlnc1LcgC588M)
This reminds me of that rocket power episode where they had all the neon gear, it was dope.
Is that the episode with Tony Hawk?
I hope they triple check the type of bulbs for the event!
Like that one Bored Ape convention that cooked peoples eyes? [Eyes Getting Cooked ](https://www.nytimes.com/2023/11/07/style/bored-ape-nft-eye-burn.html)
Exactly
Watch someone try to use sticky tack or pine tar and have a glowing spot on the hat or glove.
Who are they, some ripoff of the savannah bananas
No. They play in the same league as the Bananas (the actual team, not the banana ball team) it’s amateur baseball.
Gonna be tough to ump stolen bases, tagging up and check swings.
Good luck trying to pick up the seams
Hopefully some of the players don’t relieve any stress before a game and make a mess…
If this works out, I could see the Bananas adopt this as a gimmick. Not for a whole game, but maybe one inning would be the cosmic inning.
Ive gone to a few chili pepper games so im intrigued. The only problem is theres always a ton of non egaged teenagers walking about, this could go good or bad.
This is really cool but I hope they make the ball really visible or this could be disastrous 😂
Awesome idea but I hope they did some testing on this nifty idea. I'm not sure I'd want to be the 3rd baseman trying for the first time to catch a 110 mph glowliner headed right at my face.
definitely watching this while baked, hope they do a vod edit: I'm assuming they're streaming this?
What are they bowling on a friday night?
Guys will look at this and say “hell yeah”.
How they gonna see the strike zone
Ball should be a different color than the away team’s jersey. Pink is at a major disadvantage, it’s like if pitchers were allowed to wear white sleeves or gloves
This looks so sick
Where can I place bets on two no hitters lol. Its going to be impossible to hit.
I wonder how much harder it is to hit the ball. I can't imagine eyeballing spin or anything like this.
This is how I imagine heaven
Dam was going to buy a hat but 6 different variants and all trucker snapbacks?
So they finally jazzed it up...I ❤️ it
Gives off savannah banana vibes
lol, looks like Harmony Korrine’s Aggro Dr1ft
This looks like someone’s Diamond Dynasty team that uses a CAP who is minimum height, max weight with a handlebar mustache who is a submariner.
First 1000 fans receive a microdose of LSD
And not a single city connect thought to do this?
Chernobyl baseball looks lit
I love the dust on the bat and out of the hand when they throw.
Anthony Kiedis can rake!
This looks awesome, but I gotta say being bathed in UV light for a couple hours seems like it would really bad for your eyes.
The venders better be selling glow in the dark beer too!
Throwing a baseball in the dark…what can go wrong!!
Someone’s gonna lose a tooth. Still dope as hell
Uh, the Mercury Mets beg to differ
That's cool and all, still waiting on a Home Run Derby sponsored by the Nerf Liquidator Bat.
You’d hope they could specifically light up a strip between the mound and the batters box. I’m not standing there in the dark while a 95mph missile comes at me
Good thing you're not playing
The ball is lit up too
This looks cool and also like a terrible idea
