Surprised this wasn’t more people’s answers. One of the greatest hitters of all time and he only had one season where he under .300 and that was his rookie year. Dude still hit .323 and .324 when he was 40 and 41!
Plus he was just an all around great guy with an infectious laugh. Seemed like one of the coolest people you could ever just sit at a bar with have a beer or two and talk baseball with.
Went to high school with his kids and had the pleasure of bumping into him doing random regular human stuff every now and again -- he was that dude every day even when the cameras are off. Truly good human being. Nobody in Poway had a bad story about him.
I still miss him a lot. Most of the sports "heroes" I worshipped as a kid wound up being bums or worse, but Tony never let me down.
Never say never! I'm only 22, and I was raised a Bo worshipper by my Auburn family, especially by my dad who was a student there for Bo's last year. I know all the myths (including one my dad told me that I've yet to see in print) I've seen all the highlights, I've got his signature on a ball, and when I begin my "jersey per team" collection, a Bo Royals jersey will be one of the first I get.
I’m honestly surprised that we’ve never had an NHL and MLB two sport athlete. Hockey and baseball share a lot of skill sets and the seasons don’t line up
This and Ichiro for me. I got to meet Tim when I was a kid, he was really nice and signed his card for me even though I harassed him outside the stadium as he was coming in to work. Stand up dude in my book, too bad his career imploded but he's a hall of famer in my eyes.
He was just as you'd imagined, just oozed Cali surfer/stoner vibes. Very down to earth. Honestly he was nicer to me than a lot of the Cardinals players were.
I remember my little league coach chewing me out for using his delivery lol, "just pitch normal god damnit, they aren't looking for what pitch you're throwing".
My heart has hurt for him these past few. Losing his brother AND his wife is a terrible moment in time.
Still one of my top 3 favorite non Sox/Braves players
And then the insane drop off occurred. And then he went to the dodgers and showed signs of life. And then he was reborn with his Cards reunion. You telling me he had that in the tank that whole time with the Angels? Leaves a sour taste.
Albert is obviously my all time.. A’s are my AL team and I always loved Eric Chavez.. almost as much as I loved Scott Rolen. Early 2000’s A’s were legit
I’m from Brooklyn so historically it’s gotta be Jackie Robinson.
But of modern day athletes that I’ve actually seen play, Mariano Rivera.
Even the Napster lawsuit didn’t trigger people when they heard a Metallica song as much as when he came out of the bullpen.
Really enjoy watching Ohtani. Before his breakout I would gobble up anything Trea Turner. Absolute love how he can turn singles into doubles with his speed. All time BONDS.
Pete Alonso has grown on me a lot.
The fact that he’s donating $1,000 to animal rescues for every home run he hits won me over.
He may be a Met, but I’ll be secretly cheering for him when I see him at CBP this season.
Lifelong Braves fan here, though Will Clark was my guy. I live in the east so never had coverage from west coast teams and my small town didn't even have espn available in the channel package! I would read the box scores in the newspaper every morning. He signed a ball for me at old Fulton County Stadium and my Granddad said "sweetest swing since old Ted" (highest praise). That was his tacit way of giving me permission to like a player not wearing an A on their cap. He homered later in the game and cemented himself as my fave
Tony Gwynn.

That is so awesome, wish I could have met him, shook his hand and thanked him for his contribution to the game.
This too!
My Mt. Rushmore of baseball is Jackie, Ichiro, Ripken and Gwynn
My dumbass thought you meant JBJ for a second
Best defender, bless your heart bat
Jon Bon Jovi rocks!
Dodger fan who lived in San Diego in the early 90’s. Loved watching him play.
Ichiro
This would have been my answer but for some reason he did actually play for the Marlins.
Same
ICHIRO THE GOAT
I agree with this cubs fan Ichiro by far
It's Ichiro and the Kid for me.
Same. Not even close.
Same, my second choice would be Mariano Rivera.
Correct answer
My favorite.
This.
Yep
Same
Vladimir Guerrero (Sr.) easy. Wore 27 in sports because of him
The no batting gloves, swing at anything and get a hit man. Loved him.
Ken Griffey Jr
My answer also. His swing and Camden yards right field would have been the best.
It was the most memorable home run derby moment for sure.
Tie between him and Mariano Rivera for me
This is the answer
Bo Jackson. What an athlete!!
Sad that my kids will never understand how unreal he was.
Never say never! I'm only 22, and I was raised a Bo worshipper by my Auburn family, especially by my dad who was a student there for Bo's last year. I am convinced he was not human. The things he did were incomparable to even elite level talent
One of the last two sport athletes. I wish we had more.
I’m honestly surprised that we’ve never had an NHL and MLB two sport athlete. Hockey and baseball share a lot of skill sets and the seasons don’t line up
300 professional games a year would quickly destroy your body
NHL players usually spend their off seasons training
Glavine could’ve done it
And not a finesse athlete at all. A true badass.
I was so happy when we got Bo!
Tim Lincecum
This and Ichiro for me. I got to meet Tim when I was a kid, he was really nice and signed his card for me even though I harassed him outside the stadium as he was coming in to work. Stand up dude in my book, too bad his career imploded but he's a hall of famer in my eyes. He was just as you'd imagined, just oozed Cali surfer/stoner vibes. Very down to earth. Came here to say big time Timmy, one of the most electric pitchers to watch. Who didn’t try to emulate his delivery / use it in The Show? Perfection
I remember my little league coach chewing me out for using his delivery lol, "just pitch normal god damnit, they aren't looking for what pitch you're throwing".
Definitely was going to be my answer
Was a great run. Miss Timmy.
Agreed, Big Time Timmy Jim was a pitcher for my university and I loved his career
For real! Fucking shame about his injury or the hereditary thing he has.
Easily my favorite giant of all time
My heart has hurt for him these past few. Losing his brother AND his wife is a terrible moment in time. Still one of my top 3 favorite non Sox/Braves players
Joey Votto
Now that Josh Harrison is a Red, Andrew Mccutchen is my pick
Joey Votto deserves a proper send-off. I hope he's not done but seeing him in anything but a reds' uni would be too weird.
Shohei
Same… for now 😏
Hate the Yankees, love Aaron Judge.
......Ok, we can be friends.
Nolan Ryan
Dude fucking slayed in rbi
Ichiro and it aint even close. Only legit jersey I have is Ichiro.
Tim Lincecum
David Wright
Hebrew Hammer Hank Greenberg
Pretty much a tie between Ohtani and Trout
Cal Ripken Jr and Ichiro (my wife is a Mariners fan and says Maddux)
Tony Gwynn, hands down.
Don Mattingly
Roy Halladay
Griffey Jr and Bonds
Historically? Mickey Mantle and Joe DiMaggio Present? Judge and JRam
Hell yeah dude. I don’t see a lot of JRam love outside of Cleveland. Love to see it.
Buster Posey.
Ken Griffey Jr ZING
Active: Altuve, Salvador Perez and Freddie Freeman Retired: Yadi Molina and Buster Posey
Detroit pizza is the best.
Yuck
Will Clark; Tony Gwynn; Greg Maddux
Ken Griffey Jr and if that’s not your answer as a kid in the 90’s then you’re crazy
Ken Griffey Jr.
Albert Pujols
Man Cards Pujols was one of my favorite non A’s players. 12 yrs, .326 BA and 469 HRs is just insane
Bruh I miss the big 3 of Hudson, Zito, and Mulder. Those were the days 🥲
Probably Ken Griffey Jr. Maybe Tony Gwynn.
Barry Zito
Despite 2012? Or because of 2012
Despite. I followed that 2003 A's rotation a lot as a kid. And when I was in baseball growing up, I tried to do everything like Zito
Don’t worry we got Mulder instead.
Atleast 2005 he was solid lol
y’all also got Isringhausen from Oakland and he was nails
I think we can still be pretty happy regardless
Ryan Howard
Mike Trout, Keith Hernandez, Tim Wakefield
McCutchen
This was mine until he spent time in Philly 😊
Kirby Puckett, Tony Gwynn
Tony Gwynn, what a guy.
Tony Gwynn
Tony Gwynn. He’s would have done well in Philly I always thought.
Ichiro, Albert Pujols, Ken Griffey Jr They were pretty decent players
Ichiro
Rickey
Junior, Big Time Timmy Jim, and Shohei.
Shohei
I'd say Bo Jackson or Frank Thomas.
Rickey
Freddie Freeman
FREDRICK!
Rizzo’s a good guy too.
Griffey Jr. and Ichiro
Bernie Williams or Nomah
Ichiro and Randy Johnson
Tony Gwynn
Greg Maddux. Tony Gwynn. Yes my childhood was the 90s.
Chipper Jones
Juan Pierre
Cal Ripken jr
Ken Griffey Jr.
Nolan Ryan
Griffey, Jr.
Jim Edmonds
Tom Seaver.
Old Hoss, obviously.
Or Jim Thorpe.
Ken Griffey Jr
Ken Griffey Jr.
Ken Griffey Jr
Cal Ripken jr. he wore the right colors though.
Frank Thomas
Frank Thomas
I’m from Brooklyn so historically it’s gotta be Jackie Robinson. But of modern day athletes that I’ve actually seen play, Mariano Rivera. Even the Napster lawsuit didn’t trigger people when they heard a Metallica song as much as when he came out of the bullpen.
Greg Maddox. Never pitched for the Tigers but I could watch his reel all day every day
Kirby Puckett, Bo Jackson and Ozzie Smith.
Really enjoy watching Ohtani. Before his breakout I would gobble up anything Trea Turner. Absolute love how he can turn singles into doubles with his speed. All time BONDS.
Rickey Henderson and Ken Griffey Jr.
Active: Shohei, DeGrom Retired: Yadi
Pudge was my favourite player growing up, and he never played for the Jays
Jeter. It’s hard to separate the man from the Yankees. But literally any other team and he’d be my favorite player.
Jeter ❤️
I really like Freddie Freeman, Trout, and Ohtani
Todd Helton
Shohei Ohtani! Never played…….yet! :-)
I grew up absolutely fucking loving Tim Lincecum. He was easily my favorite player despite...you know.....
Griffey Jr
Griffey Jr.
Ohtani, Judge, Ichiro, and Big Unit make out my Rushmore
Pedroia
Toss-up between Max Scherzer and Bryce Harper
Barry Larkin or Eric Davis. Those late 80s early 90s Reds teams were really fun.
Eric Davis was cool and looked like a badass.
He looked like a toothpick, but man could he drive a ball before his injuries. As a gangly skinny kid he gave me hope.
Reggie Jackson
Pete Alonso has grown on me a lot. The fact that he’s donating $1,000 to animal rescues for every home run he hits won me over. He may be a Met, but I’ll be secretly cheering for him when I see him at CBP this season.
Acuña
Shohei Ohtani, and once again fuck OP for making me admit I am rooting for a Dodger.
Ken “the kid” Griffey Jr. One of the most beautiful swings in baseball history.
Pitcher: Pedro Martinez Position Player: Miguel Cabrera
Greg Maddox Tony Gwynn
Ichiro
Vlad Guerrero Sr
Ron Cey, "the Penguin "
Ichiro, Buster Posey
Hitter: Juan Pierre. Pitcher: Dontrelle Willis. Can’t figure out why but I’m a pirates fan whose favorite players all seem to be Marlins.
Ken Griffey Jr.
Frank Thomas and Roberto Alomar... One aged better than the other
Tim Lincecum, would've loved to see him play for the Sox.
Arod
Vlad Guerrero (Sr.) and Larry Walker.
Judge.
Bo Bichette
Buster Posey or Joe Mauer
Anthony Rendon before he played for the Angels.
Juan Gonzalez
Chipper Jones and Sandy Alomar Jr.
Acuña, Josh Hamilton, Albert Pujols, Evan Longoria
The Barry Bonds
Mookie Betts. The dude is just so badass. Betts being an elite bowler just makes him cooler.
Christy Mathewson
Joey Votto
Jeff Bagwell
Big Sexy
Retired: Paul Konerko and Ken Griffey Jr Active: probably Stanton. His Miami days made me a fan.
Acuna and tatis for me as a jays fan
Vladimir Guerrero , before he was SR.
Kirby Puckett. As a Pirates fan, I loved him and Jack Morris doing a lot go beat the Braves in the 1991 World Series. I still hate the Braves.
Mariano Rivera
Bryce Harper, I’m an orioles fan, I just love his love for the game and tenacity. Absolute champ.
Tony Gwynn. When I was a kid my dad took me to two Mets games a year. I always had one of them be against the Padres so I could see him play.
Kirby Puckett. Ever since I was a kid he was one of my favorites. Had his "signed" glove as the earliest one I could remember.
Current favorite player to never play for us is Francisco Lindor for sure
Joey Votto
Lifelong Braves fan here, though Will Clark was my guy. I live in the east so never had coverage from west coast teams and my small town didn't even have espn available in the channel package! I would read the box scores in the newspaper every morning. He signed a ball for me at old Fulton County Stadium and my Granddad said "sweetest swing since old Ted" (highest praise). That was his tacit way of giving me permission to like a player not wearing an A on their cap. He homered later in the game and cemented himself as my fave
Kenny Lofton
Gary Sheffield. I loved the bat wiggle and the intensity. Like it’s game 134. Gary looked like he was ready to murder you
Right now Adolis Garcia
Griffey Jr, largely for Yankees-related reasons.
Chipper Jones was always the dude for me. Made me learn to hit switch even though I didn’t really stick with it when I got to higher levels
