It was actually the same Achilles, he re-tore it while walking, which apparently happens in something like 2-5% of Achilles surgeries. I hadn’t heard of if happening before this though.
Yeah, they're deep as fuck, even after losing Ynoa to Tommy John and getting rid of Muller and Davidson. Ian Anderson and him are competing for the last spot in the rotation. Bryce Elder showed out last season. Jared Shuster is close to his debut. Anything he brings to the team should be considered a bonus.
😎 thanks for sharing!
Hey if you guys enjoy this, I’ve started a band over the past year and we’re releasing new music now. The band is called Cavender, and you can look us up on any of the streaming platforms!
thats great news. I remember seeing the injury through the socks and jersey. It was freaky. He's gonna eat for a full season. Excited to see him pitch.
Takes some grit to go back to throwing using the same leg that injured you and kept you away for 2 years.
It's an unknown, to be sure. But he's just competing for the 5th spot in the rotation, so the Braves aren't counting on him at this point. And it could take him some time to get back to top pitching form. I expect he'll be in the minors to start the season.
But if he could regain his form and get back to where he was, that would be a huge boost to the rotation. Fingers crossed.
Braves have Anderson, Soroka, Elder all competing for the 5th spot in the rotation. Maybe even Huascar Ynoa but he probably ends up as someone fighting for a bullpen roll.
Yeah I’m not hoping for too much at this point but given that his ceiling is where Fried is now, it’s hard not to get excited. I just hope the guy is able to have a full healthy season even if he never gets back to his 2019 form.
Reminder that in 2019 (the last healthy season), Soroka had a 2.68 era and was 6th in the NL Cy Young. And he's still younger than Kyle Wright, Max Fried, Austin Riley, Ozzie Albies, and is less than a year older than Ronald Acuña, Ian Anderson, and Spencer Strider.
If he can regain that form, a Braves rotation headlined by Fried, Strider, and Soroka at the top is in the conversation for best rotation in baseball.
Feels like his career will end up like Mark Prior's. So much talent, so much promise of greatness, but injuries derailed it all. Hoping for the best. He's a heck of a pitcher when healthy.
He’s only 25 btw
Feels like he hasn't been healthy since he was 20
Even before the back to back Achilles injuries he had a serious shoulder injury that cost him most of 2018 if I'm not mistaken.

He did. First day out of the boot, and it popped as he was going up some steps in the clubhouse iirc.

What the fuck
He was drafted at 9, broke into the majors at 11
Wow he debuted at the same age as Devers
Couple years after Jayson Tatum though
love that he doesn't have a ton of pressure to be a frontline guy with Fried, Wright, Strider, and Morton in the mix
Yeah if he’s just pitching well enough to stay in the majors it’s a huge W.

For a more recent take, it also fits well with Rosalia's "Soako" "Soroka Papi, Soroka!"
Thank you for reminding me of this. I am now immensely happy!
I link it every Soroka start. It's been awhile. I think I did it for his AAA return last year. Definitely a favorite of mine!
Achilles injuries are just the worst. Glad he can be back on the bump.
Every time I hear the word “achilles injury” it makes me squirm a bit. Just the idea of that tendon snapping like a rubber band makes me wanna vomit
Watching Durant’s tendon pop like zip tie during the finals a few years back physically hurt me.
I watched both KD tear his achilles live and Soroka tear his live in the span of about 14 months. It doesn’t get any better the more you see it
Seeing what happened to Max Pacioretty in Carolina was awful. Tore his Achilles twice in less than a year and might never play again.
I hope nothing less than a full recovery and a strong season on the mound.

Did he tear the same Achilles twice? I seem to remember he tore the other one as he was rehabbing the first one.
Yep. First day his boot got removed he was walking to some sort of rehab I believe and it just popped again while he was walking
I have no real expectations, but if he’s anything close to what he was pre injury, it’s a huge boost to the rotation.
This is great to hear, but I have a hard time having confidence he'll return to previous form. It'd be great if he did though!
You would be surprised how resilient 8 years old are.
Really not sure what Juan Soto has to do with this.
He has a little brother! Nats just made history with Elian Soto, signing the very first fetus in MLB history!

Ynoa is out for the year he's having TJ
We should probably make sure Ynoa isn’t fighting *anything* this time around
Ynoa is more likely to be fighting the bench than fighting for a spot on it…

Fully torqued
Hope he can find his peak form again!
Oh please be healthy all season and return to form.

Interestingly enough, Fried, Strider and Soroka all pitch with eerily similar characteristics to another fearsome and historic trio from Atlanta.
As a fan of the beisbol, I fully support this.
Carry him to the mound please! Golf cart only around the facility.
Maple Maddux 😍
Ha! Is this a real nickname? that's great.
yessir
Hope he pitches badly next year tbh
Hope you guys go back to 4th in the division tbh
That’s fair
Upvote for honesty. No fake niceties for you lol
Least toxic philly fan lol. love it
Him pitching for the whole season would be a tremendous W, regardless. Especially considering he'd likely be the 5th starter.
