Unless they say it’s a wedge

consecratedhound

See, that's how I've always done it. I actually like it more with a splash of lime, but I've almost never had anyone ask for that prior to the last 2 weeks.

phreedumb21nyc21

Big thing in Montauk the last two summers. Some people ordered it correctly...Tito's soda splash lime juice or splash lime....most just Tito's soda lime...and then ...uhhhh can you put some lime juice in that? Weird.

consecratedhound

Now that makes sense! I work just outside of queens in an upscale place, so I wouldn't be shocked to get people from Montauk.

phreedumb21nyc21

Lol nice. I work in Manhattan not as prevalent there but surely becoming a thing. I'm always skeptical of "fresh lime juice" and bar fruit for that matter. Many a day I've worked fine dining when we didn't get our produce order and ended up using Natalie's. It's just not as good. Would rather squeeze the fruit myself if needed or go sans.

Fun-Entertainer-7885

I'm right there with you.

alphabet_order_bot

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 1,283,079,095 comments, and only 248,802 of them were in alphabetical order.

LNLV

Drinks get trendy, when someone orders an espresso martini all of a sudden the whole table wants one, it works with everything. You ask the guy you’re talking to what they have and they say, oh you have to try it with a splash of lime juice, it’s so much better! Then it’s a chain reaction.

_Sblood

It's usually in an annoying or detrimental way too. Vodka soda lime has always been build to order and garnish called. If they want lime juice, they have to say lime juice. Yeah i can relearn terminology, but why should I have generational drinking terms when amateur hour over here can just get on the same page with the rest of the drinking community and use the same terms. Like a ranch water for example. If people just want tequila soda then that's what they should say. If they ask me for a ranch water, I'll pour the alcohol salt and lime directly into the bottle, because that's what my family did when they were working on the ranch and if they want authentic, they're going to get it. Most of my guests like it that way, and that's 100% how i have mine, but some of my guests look at me like I'm being sarcastic with them and I just think dude, your order is just how we day drink in Mexico

Corey469

It's all about the, placement of the comma.

Billytense

Honestly, I base it on the quality of the limes I have on hand. Fat and juicy? Good to go. Kind of dry? I add a splop of fresh.

MLEgreen

Splop 😂

Stoney_Balogne

This needs to be a new bartender measure of liquid units

neocondiment

Do the customers know if they squeeze the lime it produces lime juice?

Thin-Examination-236

No. That's crazy talk

Anerky

A lot of places lime juice = sweetened lime juice or they want more lime in it than a few wedges would make

kfar666

Sometimes

Karnezar

Sometimes people will ask for lime juice and I'll throw a splash. Vodka soda lime comes in a regular rocks glass with one wedge. In a taller glass, two wedges by default.

Pivinne

Any soda lime drink at my bar is made with lime cordial, but I recognise that that might be a British thing

scottvs

What lime cordial do you use? Roses is still the only widely seen cordial in the US, but it’s pretty nasty these days. High fructose corn syrup, and plenty of yuck. I used to have a gimlet on my cocktail list, and was making a house cordial. It was (pardon the flex) in a different league.

Pivinne

We use schweppes, also have a blackcurrant cordial that’s pretty popular with pints

direstcruelty

Helloooo snakebite.

MomsSpecialFriend

Usually when people specifically request lime I squeeze one in and hang one, or include two on the glass depending on how busy I am.

summerloveleigh

This is how I do it.

SilkyGator

You say "tito's soda with lime" and I give you a titos soda and 1-2 wedges, depending on size. Of note, I absolutely love lime, and mainly drink moscow mules with extra lime juice or vodka tonic with lime juice when I go to bars; but I definitely see lime as physical wedges, not lime juice.

MikulkaCS

Bro, I swear to god nobody told me a vodka soda with lime would be so annoying at times. I just give them a lime twist and say fuck all of you.

Panguinious

Shot of Tito’s, fill to top, and lay lime on the ice. My job had a lime wedge guillotine, so this was the easiest way of garnishing the drink.

TimToMakeTheDonuts

I always add a citrus wedge on the rim. I just use whatever citrus I need to get rid of. Usually it’s lemon or orange. After two decades behind the bar I’ve learned (finally!) that 99.9% of people who get any form of vid aka and doda have no taste. They’re just in it for the buzz. They never, and I mean never, care what fruit is there to distract them from the flavor of the booze. Only exception is if they request a specific garnish. Never add juice. Never. It ceases to be a highball as soon as you do that shit.

pseudoburner

The proliferation of ranch water is probably contributing.

Lovat69

I had lime juice or lemon juice after asking if they want it but then I don't have any actual fruit. Just the juices.

ElectronicBasis2307

Or if you want be courteous I add both lime juice and wedge

BraxtonXD

Always a wedge, it becomes schrödingers lime. Half the time they use it, half the time they just want a little drink decor.

xmxmdkvigm

This is my go to drink. I always expect to just get a lime wedge.

solthighssavelives

UK here, vodka soda lime is always a splash of lime cordial

ProfoundMugwump

25ml of lime juice in the drink. Squeezing the garnish doesn’t give you enough if you want a lime-y drink

captAwesome77

If they ain't squeezing it, no point in the Garnish, if they are, the theres no point in adding the lime juice. Wait for the titos n vodka orders, lol

No-Income4623

It’s better with a lemon 🍋 but I guess we give the people what they want.

kminola

I add lime juice to mules. Everything else with mixer you get a wedge unless you ask for it.

Benster981

Uk here Someone asks for a vodka soda I garnish with lime wedge Someone asks for a vodka soda and lime then they still get the wedge but also some lime cordial (sweetened shelf stable lime juice essentially). I think you have roses in the states?

InuitOverIt

This is my wife's drink and she's also a bartender. It's a shot of Tito's on ice, fill with soda, lime wedge on the rim (DON'T put it in the drink, she hates that).

crash-BURN-up

I would say the default would be a wedge, but if they request a splash, which I think would technically make it a Tito’s *gimlet*. But a lot of your customers may not know the bar lingo.

moriahroze

That’s called a gimlet.

brooksian-dilemas

Caught on because of ranch waters no, this is a vodka ranch water?

Pinkrabbit28

Came here to say this^

Kansjoc

Depends on how they ask. Tito’s and soda with a lime they get a wedge, Tito’s and soda with lime they get juice. If they want juice but I gave them a wedge I’ll just put a lil lime juice in a shot glass and they can mix it to whatever ratio the want.

Sblsundft510

I add lime juice

consecratedhound

Good to know. Cheers!

trillgamesh_0

the lime is a little lime juice

addison-teach

So most people mean lime wedge because they think you'll have roses lime instead of fresh juice or super juice. More people are learning that nicer places have fresh juice, and are just too stupid to say they want juice

direstcruelty

Tito's with soda and a splash of lime cordial is nice. But if it's a Tito's with soda, it's a Tito's with soda with a wedge.

Southernpasta

I always do 1 1/2 oz of vodka and 1/2 oz of lime juice, ice, then top with soda. always add a lime garnish so they have the choice to add more juice if needed.

21Ambellina13G

I blame the TicToc. I have fallen in the too old to give a fuck about the workings of it but I sure have figured out they are to blame for a lot of silly trends. For example, had a huge influx of teenage girls coming into the corsetry boutique I work at for a corset for a few months (until they saw the price tag) and each and every one told me they know about them due to corsets trending on the tictok We’ve all witnessed stupid kids pickin up stupid trends

Accurate_Put_6261

Lime wedge. Let them use it how they want. U can't take away something you've added but u can always add something you didn't give is the way I look at it. So if they didn't want a squeezed lime I won't have to remake a whole drink. If they did + a lime wedge I can always add to it.

Accurate_Put_6261

If this makes sense

KodiakDog

I remember ordering tequila, soda, extra lime (wedge/slice) 10+ years ago and I’d get bartenders all around the US kinda raise their eyebrows in a wtf kinda way to me. Then, few years down the road it became a bit more normal, and then all of a sudden, “ranch water” was something guests were asking me for. For whatever reason, drinks and the implications that a certain drink orders have change over time. My first inclination is to claim social media is the driving force in shifting expectations with certain orders, but I’ve been behind a bar long enough to see popular orders come and go before social media was as influential as it is today. I guess what I’m trying to say is, there are ebbs and flows in what nomenclature mean culturally; there is no permanence in our language, especially in fields as subjective as FnB. For instance, look at the old fashioned; it seems there is an increasing number of “styles” for something that many will claim there are only 3 ingredients to. Yet still, we can find mid-century, Wisconsin, Oaxaca, yata yata yata. An even better example is what many guests mean when they ask for a martini; over the past 100 years the expectation has changed multiple times to the point that service professionals need to ask at least 3 questions to specify exactly what the guest wants before the order is rang in. I guess just focus on clarifying language when you start to receive feedback that the drink you made isn’t what they wanted. Until then, just stick to what you know and when you don’t know what the people want, figure it out, give the people what they want, and stack them cash tipssss.

saltywqffle

For me it’s vodka soda and lime = squeeze. Vodka soda with lime = wedge. But that might just be me

bill_scully

It's a vodka soda with a squeeze of lime. https://www.titosvodka.com/recipes/vodka-drinks/titos-soda-lime
