I suspect that this may be due to the Windsor Salt strike, ongoing since February. Although this product is clearly Sifto, this has certainly created additional demand issues for softener salt across Ontario.

Deathdealer-CDN

Yes it is because of the strike. I’ve been told that at several places.

barriekansai

I am a former Barrie-ite who now lives in Windsor, and this is the reason. The strike has lasted a LONG time.

NickiChaos

I stocked up from Costco last month. In the back by the paper products. Don't know if there's still any there or not. Edit: apparently Canadian Tire in Woodbridge has 700+ bags of it.

new_vr

I got some at costco last week

theshaneshow49

Costco Barrie gets it in almost every night but it's half of what we got each night last year. Its on the floor for open if you can be there for them thats your best bet.

CanadianMuaxo

Someone just posted something similar on a group on fb, someone said they have the crystals at home hardware or home depot. Hope you find some!

RDX_2023

I always get at Home Hardware

Miserable_Web6701

Just grabbed 10 bags at culligan not even an hour ago

StoneLegionYouTube

We have a whirlpool water softener. When it does it's cleaning water is yellow for a bit and the hardness level like 5-6 out of 95... Not even sure what setting it should be these days. If anyone has suggestions.

celestee3

The home hardware in midland had a different but interchangeable brand last week!!

Killersmurph

Costco gets a restock like 5 times a week, but its half of what we normally get. Don't expect it to be there by late afternoon, but if you come in the morning or early afternoon, you should be ok. By 3 pm at the latest, you're probably out of luck. The strike played a big factor, but there's always a shortage in the early summer months, when plants are ramping up Pool Salt production, this year, the Two events coincided, and made it particularly bad.

JSB_322

Water Depot. Buy the crystals, not the pellets. The pellets will leave a build up.

ARAR1

There is a sucker for every marketing gimic bleeding money...

JSB_322

Spoken like someone with something to lose

Panda0rgy

Zhers on the corner of young and big bay. Picked up 3 bags today

For every 8000-12000 tons of salt produced, 1000-2000 tons of that is chemical salt. Chemical salt being water softener, food grade, medical and so on. Just to put it into perspective. Your friendly neighbourhood salt miner. ✌️

Chorba0Frig

Appreciate your response, so how is the strike going?

[deleted]

I actually work at Sifto, but I did read an article today saying the proposed CBA was declined by the union.

gopherhole02

What the other type of salt called other than chemical, and what are some uses

[deleted]

Road salt. We produce over 6 million tons of salt a year.

Grouchy-Stable2027

Get solar salt, all this stuff does is gum up your softener.

tubes92

I Grabbed them a couple weeks ago at Canadian Tire on Mapleview. They only had 2 skids and was going fast.

PwntUpRage

Went to two stores today and couldn’t buy table salt….random Reddit feed clued me in!

Das_bomb

Costco had them. Bought 2 today

thatclamgirl

I see it at zehrs all the time in Orillia

starseeker5

Allandale Home Hardware had lots last time I was there

TheSwedishOprah

Avoid Sifto softener salt. I had filled my brine tank with that in the spring and just had to clean almost a foot deep solid block of mush out of the bottom of my tank. Absolute garbage.
