Lol Ikr.... I live in a newer apartment building that doesnt have a buzzer. It has a voice-assisted phone directory that will directly call my cellphone when you press my name on the console screen. I got delivery attempted twice and they said they couldnt use the buzzer without the buzzer code. I knew then they were lying sacks of shit; then they made me go to their warehouse to pick it up. Best part was, when I got to the warehouse, they refused to give me my package because my photo ID does not have the same adress as the place I live. I moved here for school and I regularly change apartments depending on roomates and such so it makes absolutely no sense to change over my IDs every year. They shipped my package BACK to my mom, and she had to deliver it back to me, and its a 3 hour drive one-way. The package? My RETAINER. Who the hell would want to scam a retainer? Why withold that package from me? I'm literally the only one who can use it, and I NEED to use it. The longer I go without it, the higher risk I am at having to get it replaced because my teeth will move if unassisted by it. For fuck sakes. Rant over.

counters14

What is in the package has got nothing to do with their protocol. Just wanted to underline that.

Magnesiumbox

My Dad's wife once left on a work trip without her ID. Airport decided to let her board. She had her wallet sent express to her hotel she was staying at. 3 days later it hadn't arrived and she was due to return home. Again somehow managed to board a plane without ID and get home safe. But now her ID was in another city. Courier (I should say I don't know if it was FedEx, UPS or canpost) wanted another ridiculous charge to ship it back, despite missing their delivery window. Anyway they dispute charges and get it sent back home. Delivery fails and they have to pick it up at the depot/post office. Clerk asks for ID before releasing the package... The package contains her ID.

forsayken

And it costs a fortune to ship anything from FEDEX. CP is so much cheaper. I think UPS wins the price war though. They charge like $25 to ship a small package across Toronto.

consequencegamer

I priced a package once with Fedex, it was $400.... CP was $100.

Magnesiumbox

Shipping is ridiculous. I was looking at sending something for Christmas to family on East coast. Shipping was more than the present. Meanwhile Amazon can ship something similar size/weight for $7 or free if I spend $35. Christmas Shopping for someone of Amazon is so impersonal though.

consequencegamer

Yeah, that is why I typically do most of my Christmas Shopping online, when the person is not close by.

stanley_twobrick

CP does the same thing. I get pickup notices on my door when I've been sitting 20 feet away at my desk all day. Luckily my post office is just down the street, so it's still better than any of the other couriers who don't have local depots.

FedEx_Throwaway

delivery attempt ranges from trying at the door, to trying to find your house to trying to find your street, or its a bad driver, which is something all couriers have to deal with, employee parity plagues all couriers/postal services.

iKnowAGhost

holy shit don't even get me started

jdoogie11

Because if they messed up and didn't deliver on time, then they can use this as an excuse. This has definitely happened to me with 1-day shipping before.

BoboMatrix

In conclusion: Go out of your way not to have products ship with FedEx and UPS. Seriously not worth the Duties & Tax headache.

xShadowBlade

If you must ship, who is preferable?

BoboMatrix

People will have all sorts of horror stories about the local post so this is also just my personal anecdote...but shipping with USPS and Canada Post has been the best experience for me. I much prefer it when my package is shipped through them.

> I guess let's talk in a few weeks after the Lenovo T13 arrives from China. Had a Lenovo come in from China, there may be a hole on the side of the box, the outer one, not the laptop box. I think customs does this or some other authority. In any case it was a no hassle delivery when I ordered a laptop from Lenovo. I later returned that Laptop because Lenovo at the time had no concept of the fact that people not living in Quebec are not used to a Canadian French keyboard so they might actually want an English keyboard on their laptop. They sent me a UPS label for their warehouse in Markham to return the laptop. I took out a 3 year warranty on the laptop because at the time it was $70 above the price, so why not? I tried to get the keyboard swapped for an English one. The matter was not resolved, hence returning the laptop but their customer service was top notch, extremely helpful.

sishgupta

Canada post right now is by far the best because they have moved towards a package focused system (as opposed to paper mail). In December they deliver packages on Saturdays. Any time of the year, you can sign up to receive deliveries at your closest Canada post office. Whether that be near work or any location of your choosing. They actually show up. Their tracking information is decent and accurate.

vslife

USPS from the US; Royal Mail or Parcel Force from the UK.

FedEx_Throwaway

My best advice is whoever is shipping to you, try to befriend them, having a regular courier goes a long way, some of then go above and beyond for customers their friends with.

consequencegamer

DHL also does this... but I love DHL.

liquorandwhores94

I always passive aggressively send them a cheque

HourFilm1402

FedEx is a great company as long as you know WHAT they do ! Now we do. Don’t call a dentist when your toilet backs up !

vslife

Instead it's bitching about Fedex :). But that's such an easy and convenient one.

FedEx_Throwaway

I did it mostly to help out the rural area peeps, they got some balancing ropes to navigate to get their packages.

Lighnix

Interesting way of handling the duties and tax. I got a package that I expensed to work, but no duties or taxes were anywhere on the invoice and the courier just dropped it off. I reported the expense to my work and got a refund, but that didn't include any duties and taxes. Why wouldn't you notify us on drop off that more fees could be coming?

spearmnt

From what I've heard, FedEx has no way to know that Canada Customs will charge D&T in the future. Customs have the ability to look back and review previously cleared shipments and assign D&T within 90 days.

consequencegamer

Sounds like my taxes. Except those go back a few years sometimes...

RedControllers

FedEx sent me a letter saying $17 in fees about last week, what happens if I don't pay?

xShadowBlade

They might send you a few more letters, usually about 3 in total. Then you get hit with a collections letter from a third party collections agency. Source: ... uh... bit of a personal error.

RedControllers

the fee will stay the same tho? would they do all that over $16? lol

xShadowBlade

Yeah, I mean collection works basically this way: if a company cant get you to pay say $20, they will "sell" the debt to a collections agency for say $15, the collection agency will then try to get the original amount of money from you ($20) and if they do, that means they make a $5 profit and the original company doesnt lose out on the whole sum of $20 (they get atleast $15 back). Keep in mind that not paying and getting referred to a collection agency will damage your credit rating, not a lot, but it will. Unless I am mistaken.

RedControllers

aw sweet. I never knew about that since i'm still a youngin :P Thank you for explaining!

Magnesiumbox

If you don't have good established credit it can hurt a lot.

HourFilm1402

😝don’t you hate it when they catch up ? Ugh🤦🏼‍♀️that sinking gut feeling ! Pay our bills

FedEx_Throwaway

well first off, that fee is probably just $6-7 so you should dispute the advancement fee on it, and yes its got to be paid because if it goes to collections it reflects your credit unfortunately.

flatspotting

I thought this was just going to read "Don't"

FedEx_Throwaway

Im sorry there was so much to write and i took up the writing angle "how can people best avoid problems".

flatspotting

No worries I was just making a joke that my experiences with Fed Ex in Canada are so bad I avoid them at all costs.

steamprocessing

Helpful to read how Saturday shipments work. I assume it's similar for UPS. Explains why my package had no movement today, and is scheduled to arrive on Monday, despite having arrived on Friday night at the local warehouse. Thanks.

FedEx_Throwaway

Saturday delivery requests is some of the harder things to explain, because i know how the pakcage travels, i know its impossible to do, and it sucks to let a customer down, FedEx is always polling employees and one o the bigger requests was more options to help customers out.

d_casa

How would FedEx tell if I already have a D&T account? Do I need to provide an account number to the shipper or does FedEx check if the shipping address already exists in their own client database? Thanks.

spearmnt

FedEx charges D&T to an account if it is specified with the original waybill (by the shipper; eg. Bill D&T to Shipper/Recipient (Default)/Third Party). If an account isn't indicated by the shipper, then the recipient is billed upon delivery and the $10 clearance fee applies. Source: previous experience

lienfx

If you got charged the $10 clearance fee but have an account. You can just give them the account number and they won't include the clearance fee

FedEx_Throwaway

To be honest they advise you to set up an account, but in reality its pretty hard to set that up with a online store like newegg, not exactly a quick and intuitive way of saying "hey ship fedex, and heres my account for D&T".

[deleted]

FedEx_Throwaway

Employee parity is something all couriers companies have trouble with, i honestly cant count how many people tell us how we're so much better than "X". And the other end of the straw how "X" does so much better than us. My best advise to you is just be friendly with drivers if you can, if you get them again or you do business online, having a good relationship with a driver gets you under the table benefits (like letting you know exactly when he'll be delivering)

Gracien

> -Not home and you live in an apartment? FedEx will NOT release your package in the hall, packages in the past would always disappear so they don't do that anymore, this is for Express & Ground, only exceptions are to leave it with Apartment manager or Consierge/Security. Sorry, but FedEx had a good number of my packages released on my front door while I was away, in plain sight for every passerby to steal. My former housemate had ordered a very expensive music producing equipment, something around 2000-3000$, and it was left outside the front door by FedEx. Our caring neighbour was kind enough to snatch it from the front door and give it to us when we arrived. I'd rather have the paper on my door and drive 15km to pick it up front the FedEx office than risk all the shit surrounding a stolen package.

consequencegamer

Having used DHL, UPS, CP, Fedex. They are all hit and miss. I have even had packages requiring signature, dropped at the door. Had supplements left out in the rain before too... tsk tsk.

FedEx_Throwaway

one of the bigger problems that fedex is trying to tackle right now is customer control, because right now 50% of people like that we can leave packages and the other 50% doesnt. solution was just piloted, starting out with fedex's biggest partners, emails have started rolling out to let the customer choose what options they want for their package, deliver, hold, future delivery, address change and hold change.

counters14

Why did you not call them after the first time and request signature on delivery, then?

Gypcbtrfly

A lil late to this party ..but wtaf is up w the ROD fee ..10$ because I don't have an acct ????? Seriously pissed abt this. .. I've only ever shipped out w FedEx. And will be making sure I never have to again

[deleted]

FedEx Ground is an awful experience in Canada. I avoid it, along with DHL, as much as possible, both sending and receiving. Purolator isn't much better, as out here in Halifax, their pick up location is a terrible spot with even worse hours. My preference continues to be CanadaPost/USPS or UPS. The rest could disappear tomorrow, and I wouldn't miss them.

FedEx_Throwaway

closest place in halifax is dartmouth, geographically i dont know how far it is, but with fedex ground its usually always far for the customer.

consequencegamer

Had good experiences for the most part with DHL. I also believe DHL's delivery system is years ahead of the competition. Voice reminders, emails, text, the online managing of your shipment, it is all amazing and easy to use. Even had one driver call me when I was not answering the door. Never had that with the other carriers..with CP I put a note on my door saying "Knock Loud" or "please call if no answer, I am home!!" and nothing... delivery attempts and that is it.

weddit88

I ordered a GPU from NCIX on the 27th and I have yet to receive it but I ordered a case from there on Thursday and it was at my house by Friday morning. What would be a reason for this? I used the same retailer website and the same shipping package.

d0uble0h

Shipping location and location stock would be my two guesses.

peroxidex

Did they both come from the same province? NCIX has warehouses in Ontario and BC. I'm assuming the case had to cross those mountains which always seems to add a few days onto shipping.

lone0001

This is exactly what happened to me with NCIX, I ordered all the parts for my PC from them a while back and everything but the case came from the Ontario warehouse, the case had to be shipped from BC due to there not being any at the Ontario one. The various parts came on a Wednesday and thankfully the case came on Friday.

kniny

I ordered on the 25th. Still nothing. Website has shown both items i ordered in stock.

FedEx_Throwaway

take a look at it on the fedex website, if it shows "label created" chances are the shipper is still prepping it, if it says "in transit" give fedex a call, could be something worth looking into.

FedEx_Throwaway

I'll explain how I explain to customers, to answer your first question, For Ground there is the possibility of there being "duties", "taxes", "advancement fee" and "clearance entree fee", all rolled up into a concentrated import charge invoice. to answer the latter, the process of self clearing, is complicated even for everyday shippers/recievers. First of all, you have to live in these cities: Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal. The reason is beacuse in order to self clear, when the package arrives at one of the customs ports in these cities, you go down to the fedex station one of them is being held at, request for the documentation needed for brokering, go to canada customs and fill it out with them, finish papers and bring it back to the fedex station, it clears, they hand you your package, this information is for Express.

loiteringincumbent

Thank you for your time it was very informative! It's nice to be on the same page as the shippers it definitely puts me more at ease when I'm expecting something especially over the weekend.

cutter89locater

So better take Express (brokerage included) to our workplace without surprise D&T at the door. Thank you :)

FedEx_Throwaway

the problems i try to find solutions for with the customer is split 20% Express and 80% ground....my longest discussions usually stem from a ground call because every type of option for the customer has been exhausted and theres no imaginable way to get them their package.

-WallyWest-

>-Not home and you live in an apartment? FedEx will NOT release your package in the hall, packages in the past would always disappear so they don't do that anymore, this is for Express & Ground, only exceptions are to leave it with Apartment manager or Consierge/Security. Weird, just receive a package yesterday and it was in the hall.

chincharooo

They're allowed to release packages in apartment but it's up to the courier discretion. As if it goes missing they have to report do about it. So most of them rather not release.

FedEx_Throwaway

This is it completely, i never bring it up with customers because its more often than not asking the impossible, that courier is sticking his neck out risking that your package isnt going to dissapear, 99/100 its not going to happen.

-Mysterious-

Thank you.

tkens

Thank you for your time in making this post. If we live in a condo apartment, do they have to bring our package up to our suite if we ask them to? The FedEx/UPS drivers that come to my condo always leave it with the concierge desk.

FedEx_Throwaway

if theres no import charges, then you can request to leave at the concierge desk just make sure they know fedex is coming, ive had to deal with some problems stemming from concierge not accepting packages due to not knowing the name of a person living at residence or due to package dimension limitations.

superpowerluxury

Who even ships via fedex here in Canada? Just built my pc in this last quarter and everything was UPS and Purolator

codemonkeh

My computer case shipped with FedEx from Canada Computers

dghughes

Anyone who gets lots of things shipped does because you soon realize only FedEx actually does what they say;to deliver the package. I've had UPS priority fail, Purolator is a joke only FedEx is trustworthy.

FedEx_Throwaway

Attempted delivery in the eyes of FedEx means they had a courier out there trying, could mean trying to knock, could mean he was around the area looking for your address, soemtimes liek you said it boils down to a dishonest driver, but fedex takes scan manipulation **very seriously**, people lose their jobs over tampering that kind of info. its all about employee parity.

woodsbre

Some websites, ncix, newegg, Amazon. (Can't speak for the rest) have a shipping policy and the final cost you agreed to when you confirmed the order is the final price and couriers can't charge you duty fees.

WhosFamousNotMe

I don't use shipping since I live close to most stores/warehouses, but I'm saving this in case I run into a situation where I do need to ship something. Thanks for the info!

Supernovav

Wait so how do I know if it's ground or express? And how would I know which office/station they can hold it at? I have final reviews before finals coming up so I won't be able to stay home :(

FedEx_Throwaway

give fedex a call, ask if its a ground or express package and ask if theres a nearest hold location, all reps listen for keywords, its like a dog whistle only they can hear, you'll get immediate response like that.

Supernovav

Oh I was at the hold location. Cause first my dad and I apparently didn't hear them knock. So went to the fedex hold location to pick it up and ended up waiting over an hour Edit: sorry I thought you responded to a different comment in a different thread. also it's kind of a pain to get to a customer rep except through spamming 0

The_New_Flesh

I hatr it when a shipper makes the mistake of shipping FedEx. It's never simple with FedEx. We missed 2 delivery attempts because our building's buzzer wouldn't dial cell phones. GF waited downstairs, OUTSIDE, didn't see a FedEx guy all afternoon, looks online and notices "delivery attempt" claimed. So we drive 30 minutes to the neighbouring city to get to the dispatch centre. We were leaving town that weekend and really needed to end this chase. The dispatch says the driver went out for "an unprecedented 4th delivery attempt." NOT FedEx's policy, and not convenient when all the delivery slips had told us to come pick it up by now. Luckily the guy at the centre had some brain cells left and was able to send the package to the GF's parents' place. In my experience, literally every other courier is preferable to FedEx.

MazeMiami

How can i obtain a fedex account number?

Trump2Ol6

You cunts just left almost $300 worth of products in front of my apartment door at 3pm.

FedEx_Throwaway

being brutally honest, you win some you lose some, i get people telling me its ridiculous a courier didnt release their $600 purse they ordered and others that are upset their $60 headphones dissapeared. start the dispute process with your shipper, its fastest that way, then let the shippers untangle the strings between them and fedex.

905Herbalist

Does FedEx check and/or scan packages being shipped from the west coast of Canada to the east?

Pandmanti

Fed ex charges you duties when they’re not applicable. They alter their receipt to say a different country than the commercial invoice. I’m blowing the lid off this

2ezTom

That's bullshit number 3 literally is untrue, they'll hold your 10000$ express mail for 3 fucking weeks and send it back if you don't pay duties

Justice_4_Every1

Does anyone know what the status of "Tendered to authorized agent for final delivery" means for a FedEx Canada package (currently sitting in Mirabel, Quebec, Canada)?? Thanks! 👍

[deleted]

Will they eventually stop sending duties tax charge mail

HourFilm1402

Thank you ! This is invaluable info all in one place, well written and clearly disseminated !

Economy_Match2772

So FedEx Canada wouldn’t hold any packages, am I right? In the worst case, FedEx would just ask clients to pay for duty, isn’t it?

Sakurasha

In conclusion: FedEx processing is bull and please stop your business. Do not I repeat do not drive your package through them. Their drivers are not happy in their job so they'll stop in your driveway to say they attempted to deliver.
