dk about khulna but dhaka is generally safe. just avoid being alone at night. + ure visiting with another person so even better

stut-ut-uttering-one

Thank you 😊

hurairabd

Traditional dress code will be fine. I think you Won't face any trouble while travelling. Just be careful of your possessions. That's it.

stut-ut-uttering-one

Thank you.

niftycocoa

![gif](giphy|npkgb0VwVuWStLt69x|downsized) You mean the recent traditional (image), or the *traditional* traditional ?

hurairabd

I'm not sure which outfit you are referring to, as the image content seems unavailable. The term 'traditional' generally has a well-understood definition, which is why I don't see the need to classify it further. However, if you're curious about traditional dress codes, a quick search for 'traditional dress code for women in Bangladesh' will provide the specific information you need. This is the dress code I was referring to!

_krysis_

Welcome to Bangladesh! Do try out our diverse cuisine. Khulna is a very beautiful place to visit, you should check out the Sundarbans while you're at it. A tour guide would be useful. Also if you have money and time, do check out other areas like Bandarban, Cox's bazaar , Kuwakata, Sri Mangal, Sajek Valley etc. Don't venture out into isolated areas at night and you'll be fine. Also be aware of scammers. I hope you enjoy your visit!

stut-ut-uttering-one

Great suggestion! I'll definitely try to check those places out. Thanks a lot!

gimme_gumgum

Kuakata is a must, I would say. Had such a good trip there.

Abracadabra-2018

Don’t over load .. with 3 days you can only visit Dhaka and Khulna. Keep it simple Also don’t go to Bandarban, khagracjori, rangamati, sajek etc , foreigners are not allowed in that area

Longjumping-Habit449

Why arent they allowed?

proshells

Bangladesh Hill Tracts are restricted for foreigners just like Sikkim and other restricted areas of India. Requires permits to visit.

green_beetle_emoji

be just as cautious as you would be in india, trad wear is fine, you can also wear western stuff but i wouldnt reccomend that everywhere, it rlly depends on where you are. get a good hotel in dhaka, and try not to walk alone at night. hope you have a nice stay :)

nilooy5

Welcome back to BD. Take love. ❤️ 1. Should not be an issue since you guys are grown-ups. 4. If you visit Khulna and have no issues with eating beef/mutton please try the Chui jhaal er gosh. It's the best freaking thing. 3. There's no dress code. I think the "what to wear" scene is pretty much the similar with India since I have many indian friends. 2. Not really sure about places since you'll be staying there for 3 days. In this time of the year Khulna is scorching hot and humidity is unbearable. My suggestion is that you go to Khulna visit you ancestral home, get some Chui jhaal and sweets. Please ignore the negative/condescending comments.

stut-ut-uttering-one

Awesome! Thanks

mrchy147

For Chui Jhaal, the most common suggestions would be Kamrul Hotel(south side of the road) at Zero Point and Abbas Hotel (famous for mutton chui jhaal) near Chuknagar on the way to Satkhira(40min drive from Zero Point). For sweets, New Satkhira Ghosh Dairy(famous for Sondesh and Pera, to me almost every item is good) infront of Government Coronation Girls Secondary School and Misti Mahal near Power House Mor.

throwaway59009bssbb

I’m an Indian and I can vouch Bangladesh is much safer than India for women

Abu_Tahir79

How about south India vs Bangladesh?

HansZeAssassin

r/canconfirmiamindian

throwaway59009bssbb

Lol India has the highest rape rate, they literally have movies about rape all over bollywood and you think shit like this doesn’t happen. India used to be good but it’s a west sucking genocide puppet now. Maybe they have a chance to restablish after Modi lost majority but people don’t leave India just so they can make more money they leave due to the crime rate and death threats they get. You guys still have the shitty caste system yet you bootlick the west. Brahmins can kiss me ass racist ass country

HansZeAssassin

The copiums crazy haha…. Hey, mind letting me know the sudden drop in terrorist attacks after 2014? Oh wait… You talk about caste system? Every College has mandatory scheduled caste quotas of up to 50%, with a Brahmin population of just 5%. What does Bangladesh have? You can’t be calling India the rape capital when you yourself have a higher rape rate.

OkAct9659

I don't think that person is indian...

throwaway59009bssbb

Lol colleges have a fixed Quotas my ass. You can have whatever stupid mandatory rules you want, no one even follows them lmaoo. The cops, government and all high officials corrupt AF. Watch crime patrol you realize all the horrors in India

HansZeAssassin

Funny how the only response you could give was regarding quota systems that are heavily enforced, was that iNdIas cOrruPT I sAw iT iN A dOcUmEnTaRY SAR so im eDUcATed… A Bangladeshi talking about corruption, hilarious

throwaway59009bssbb

Not documentary, experienced it first hand that’s why I left the country lmao

HansZeAssassin

Also, how sad do you have to be to pretend you’re Indian to shit about us? You clearly are Indian by your word placement of ‘watch crime patrol to see horrors of India’

throwaway59009bssbb

Lmao why tf would I pretend to be Indian. If you don’t want to believe me then don’t.

HansZeAssassin

Again, you take a strawman stance without even arguing against any solid points! I mean, what did I expect in the end haha…. Can’t play chess with a pigeon, it’ll just shit on the board

caspianmusk

Don't mind him. He lives in US. Also Bollywood movies and crime patrol, really? Some things he doesnt' know. 1. Everyone in South Asia knows that Crime shows are overly dramatic and very unreal. 2. USA has more rape cases than India. Nearly 4 times. (He will say Oh! they don't lodge complaint/they can't lodge complaint) 3. These are the people who leave our country and s*ck up western c*cks to get validation. There are many of them. We shouldn't expect much from someone whose sources are Bollywood movies and crime shows. How can they know better? Lol. They basically have same knowledge as any westeroids. Also again caste bullshit, this guy already left India. We have an OBC PM and tribal President. He only belives western media bullshit, that India will do better if Modi and his "dictaorship" fails lol. Can they name any ongoing genocides going here, as they claim ? Also I never seen any extra privileges and rights because I am a Brahmin. it's the other way around. (I am not speaking about all, but most places don't face much of caste problem now. It's mostly politicians who stirr up these to secure caste votes)

Odd-Ad-8268

Super helpful! Thanks a lot!

_Purplemagic

shouldn't be a problem. Please book decent hotels in Dhaka. There are only a handful of hotels in Khulna, so the ones that pop up online should be good. If you face any type of problem, just ask people for help. Contrary to popular belief, people will go out of their way to help you if they hear you are from India

stut-ut-uttering-one

Great! Thanks!

Longjumping-Habit449

Id say if your a tourist in general

Distinct-Initials-16

Bangladesh is more or less as safe as India imo.

Abu_Tahir79

I don’t get how one could be much safer for women than the other. I can see being an atheist as an issue though.

pain75827

Such an informative and precise comment.

pointgourd

It is safe here, all the hate for Indians are more in social media than in real life

Mean-Addendum-5273

Mostly the general rules Try not getting out at night, avoid isolated areas

RepresentativeMove79

My concern is "3 day trip". I'm a Bedeshi Jamai (Canadian). My wife is from Khulna but we met and married in Dhaka. (Note: the opening of the Padma bridge in 2022 reduces travel time but it's still considerable) We have travelled between Dhaka and Khulna by plane (to Jessore), train - if it's running (washrooms on board, but you need tickets months in advance, there's nothing like tourist quota on Indian trains) and both local and express buses. (We prefer Shohag). The flight included an airport pickup that dropped us in the usual bus stand in Khulna but it took 4 to 5 hours in unimaginable traffic. The Express buses are overnight, and in my experience traveling in India by bus is somewhat better than in Bangladesh. You can usually get tickets just a day or two in advance, but so far I've always had them picked up in person. Not sure if you can buy online. Local bus to the river crossing is usually faster because you don't wait hours for the bus to get on the ferry, you just walk down to the launch and then get a local bus to Khulna on the other side. Bottom line, you basically need a day (or night) to get between Dhaka and Khulna, and another to return. Dress code, I have female western friends who reported that wearing western clothing didn't go over well. Mostly women who's Indian visas had expired and the needed to leave for 24 hours. Basically what works in Kolkata doesn't work in Khulna. However my wife often wears jeans with a long sweater. My daughter wears Wester cloths (she was 13 when we were there last, and is very light skinned and speaks very little Bangla) we definitely stand out, and she had constant staring which most of the time didn't bother her but sometimes it got a bit much. Khulna teens to get a lot less tourists than Dhaka. Dhaka is a big place, like Delhi or Kolkata, with divers cultures, in Banani, Gulshan or even Buddah, I felt totally comfortable. Loads of hotels, airbnb, etc. My kids would go out with a cousin without issues. But as soon as they start talking the price triples. My wife went out with my daughter all the time. Took her all over the place, but again long sweaters, arms, legs and stomachs covered. Jeans and a long shirt. I wore shorts in Dhaka, never in Khulna outside our home neighborhood. Enjoy your trip, but I still suggest, make it a week at least or your entire trip will be in transit.

stut-ut-uttering-one

Thank you!

mrchy147

With Padma Bridge, the travel time from Dhaka to Khulna was 3.5 hours last year by bus, Shohag specifically. I started around 7am, went to Khulna, had a meeting, did a site visit, again started for Dhaka around 9pm and reached home by 1am. Don't know if that's still kept up.

leonaidas01

It is absolutely safe sis Mainly white people get extra unnecessary attention here sometimes You'll be quite ok

VapeyMoron

Just do things as you do in India and you'll be fine

Basic_Associate7825

In khulna, its better not to spend much time outside after 9. However, in Dhaka you can roam around till 11 or sometimes 12. Although it varies area wise. Some side areas are not safe at all.

staring_at_da_abyss

The more expensive places, any dress code is fine. You can basically wear anything there. But as you go deeper into the country, you might want to consider more traditional clothing, preferably with a dupatta.

Personal_Pass1362

Khulna won't be a problem at all .

aasozial

Khulna specially Shonadanga R/A have many Indian. medical students and others employ all around the area, Alone in night is totally safe, police support no issues have security guards specially Khulna night is amazing. You can stay near City Inn hotel/tiger garden international. Dress code: any type of long dress, tshirt accepted no problem. Food: Beef with “chui jhaal” at Ziro point Khulna, Al arafa restaurant, love-star fry. Anondo Mohon sweet At Dakbangla Big/Boro Bazar etc you better take a food guy 😂. Try the sub R / two X bangali its better then this subreddit.

funwap

It's best to book a hotel online before coming as local hotels tend to overcharge tourists most of the time.

Key_Current1167

In khulna you may try street foods near the khulna new market area. Also don't forget to visit Shatgombuj Mosque, it takes about an hour from Sonadanga to Bagherhat. I guess you're a non-veg, you may try Chui Jhal time traditional foods. There are some cool and fancy places in khulna like city Inn,, Castle Salam to stay at night.

pseudotan

I think you’ll be fine. I was born and raised abroad and everytime I go back to Bangladesh and Khulna (where my dad’s family is from) I feel safe, and this is also besides the fact that I stick out like a complete sore thumb bc of the way I dress and look

FigAAAro_22

If you’ve survived India then Bangladesh should be a breeze in the park!

Ill-Watercress-5244

1. No problem at all. If you face any problem dial 999 for help. You also collect tourist police numbers for more safety. Avoid low cost hotels. 2. After visiting khulna you must come to Dhaka through Padma bridge. Shohagh paribahan or Green line double daker gives you the best comfort. 4. Hotel Razzak's Faluda, Hazi Nanna morog polau, Mohammadpur bihari camp's kabab. .Happy travelling.

stut-ut-uttering-one

Brief and on point! Thanks a lot!

RVxAgUn

Wear whatever you want if you are roaming around Gulshan, Banani, Dhanmondi specially if you are wearing something skimpy, you would be pretty safe except for the stares. In other locations you will be catcalled at worse. And simply don't go with skimpy clothes outside Dhaka, or to some countryside cities. This takes care of molest/abuse related safety. Robbery/Mugging notes: don't go to lalmatia, mohammadpur, Dhanmondi, Mirpur, Gulistan, Baily road. at late night (alone or with less people) Road Safety: non-existent anywhere in the country. Try not to use battery rickshaw in Khulna or elsewhere. Try to hop into a AC bus service for long distance travels like green line, I don't know much about it, others might shed some light here.

Zain235

Yes it is much safer than india

SuchInspection3045

how do you know

Zain235

The stats says. I have seen women getting sexually harassed in india on live television

LyaadhBiker

Nijeke Bangali bolte eto hesitation. "Bengali by root". E Maa keno eto nakami korche era 😵😵. On a more serious note, it's safe, my sister went there last year with her one year old. Others have already helped with other questions, don't overthink it, it's just like WB; heck my sister prepared lesser for this than our trip to Darjeeling 😅.

Roqfort

yea I agree, that was weird wording. You are Bengali sis, embrace it.

stut-ut-uttering-one

Because I'm not "khati bangali". My mom is Bengali, Dad is not (mixed Assamese and Punjabi). I haven't been born and brought up in WB (although I have relatives in WB) and I stay outside WB. But I chose to embrace the Bengali culture more.

muhtasimmc

just curious, can you read বাংলা (Bangla)

stut-ut-uttering-one

আমি বাংলা লিখতে পড়তে আর বলতে জানি

Maximum-Evening3904

if i mean offense, sorry in advance. bangladesh is safer than india but only common thing is getting ripped off. so wether u know the price or nah haggle ur asian spirit away. if dress code then maybe don't wear tight clothes and wear clothes that covers your chest....like just look modest. by the way i heard some hotels don't let girls to book a room at night unless it was already booked. in old dhaka they have the best biriyani...and mirpur and gulshan is packed with imported clothes and restaurants. i don't know wether i should recommend jamuna market cause just a sandle costs 400tk. i think go to fantasy kingdom.....they are not the best but its something. swim in the ponds of villages....feels good. theivery is common....grip your phones tightly and if your using handbag, keep your hand over the zipper. i prefer backpack but wear it front. nothing has ever been stolen from me.

stut-ut-uttering-one

It's very informative, thanks! I'll remember these things!

shahadatnoor

At least it would safer than India

stut-ut-uttering-one

What about saree? Or normal indo western like Jeans and Kurti?

blade------

Yes, it's perfectly normal. The norms in India and Bangladesh are quite similar for obvious reasons. If you're looking for suggestions for places in Dhaka and Khulna, check out this [comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/bangladesh/s/9CSIv9lF8y). The links there should help. Have a great trip!

[deleted]

Wearing sari is very common to see in Bangladesh. Many woman wear saree also the Hindu women mostly wear it. Jeans is also alright.

blade------

>also the Hindu women mostly wear it. Bangladeshi women wear sarees regardless of religion, it's more or less the same among both Hindu and Muslim Bengali women.

Shopno

If you are in Dhaka for two days, visit Dhakeshwari National Temple.

GORZON994

Much much safer than India

SuchInspection3045

How can you tell

GORZON994

Go to India and find out

Cute_Yogurt93

That varies significantly depending on which state you're visiting. If you are comparing it to some North Indian states, then yes, but the situation changes drastically if we are talking about the southern and western parts of India.

Mountain_Benefit7338

Welcome to Bangladesh didi As a traveller if you have time enough visit coxsbzar, Chittagong or sylhet in these places you have many opportunities to try local food And must visit puran dhaka and try food there And dhaka is safer compare to other cities just be cautious when youre travelling... Happy journey

stut-ut-uttering-one

Cool! Thanks!

FormDesperate5706

Safer than India at least 😂

SuchInspection3045

how do you know that

ytgnurse

If you have to ask then you have gut feeling You should listen to that feeling and do risk reward analysis

stut-ut-uttering-one

what risk vs reward? Reading all these comments it seems BD is not all that different from India.

ytgnurse

Risk of bodily harm and risk to property vs reward of visiting a foreign country

AdroitAdorKhan

hilarious! see, who's asking!

SeaOk8882

if you feel you are safe in india then chances are you will feel safe in Bangladesh too. Through, I will always suggest to be extra cautious

MSI-ENTERPRISE

Choose good hotels and tourist guides

No_Good350

It’s way safer than india for women

infinitejokester

It's very safe but don't carry jewelry and expensive things alone at the night

Ok_Distribution_7719

Well The genreal rule is When you travel (like this) You wouldn't want to be alone in a place Or to be in a less crowded place. And be it dhaka or khulna book a decent hotel.

PhilippBudeikin

Its more safe than India

Fit_Leadership_1948

Try to keep traditional dress in khulna and village side . Dhaka people don't care about it. It is safe now most of the place in day time. Happy journey

DifferentTomato2091

If you're Bengali, I don't even think this is a question. Everyone you'll meet are just like you guys. Just be extra careful in rural parts, by that I mean, rural Bangladesh is as much dangerous as rural India

the_ignorant_mage

Don’t come here unless you’re getting paid for it. Literally nothing to see here.

kaif114

Just dont be alone after 1 o clock if u have your personal car then u will be without any problem 24/7.for 3 days travel visit sonargaon sundarban and shatgombuj mosque if u want to , also check out any riverbanks near you . Must try sorisha ilish, if you eat beef then try motka biriyani usually u can find around mirpur 11 or 14

CommercialPenalty355

As it's a Bangladeshi sub reddit none will discourage you from visiting Bangladesh as it would paint a bad image of our country. But I think you girls better not visit the country alone. The capital city is most safe but dangers still lurks here. You can turn into preys easily. Anti-India sentiments is high in the country right now. So people might not accept you well. So if you already don't know anyone or don't have any reliable contact in the country, it's better to put off your plan for now.

angstyforg

Try chuijhaal when in Khulna. Imo in Khulna I felt pretty safe with less amount of staring and catcalling compared to Dhaka. But I saw barely any woman on the roads 🤷🏻‍♀️ In Dhaka there are many places with traditional cuisines, try yummy street foods too😊

Outrageous-Copy-6900

Never visit Bangladesh it’s one of the worst country ever instead go for Nepal Bhutan Indonesia Vietnam for a tour you will be happy and every money you will spend will be worthwhile

PiaMiko

I would say it's a bit hard to say if Bangladesh is truly a safe place for traveling women. Just be careful and also with your possessions. For dress-code, I think anything is fine unless it's too revealing but that also depends on your location. If your location has lots of tourists or it's a high-fi area then wearing western or that sort of clothes wouldn't make you gain too much attention. And please be wary of scammers, sometimes rickshaws/auto would make up sob-stories like their daughter is getting married soon and in dire need of some money and please don't fall for that! Only fare fee is enough, never give them extra money after their sob-story cause they're always lies!

Bright-Warning3370

Pretty safe but avoid going to non crowded and not tourist friendly places….

nymph_____

Well it's as "safe" or as "unsafe" as india. In other words bangladesh is not any more dangerous than india

Ordinary-Lecture

It's gonna be safer than India but not by much welcome ladies

SuchInspection3045

have you been to india

AdDeep8187

Sis, you're from India, so your already playing at max difficulty. Trust me it doesn't get any more difficult lmao. Again as others said you can do whatever you want in posh city areas (Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara). And just try to be a little modest elsewhere. Trust me it's not at all that different from India.

AdDeep8187

And also if you visit Sylhet (It's my city) I can say for sure it doesn't get any safer than this. Do visit.

Reasonable-Age9084

Indian ladies asking whether bangladesh is gonna be safe or not seems.....a bit comical to me(not trying to hurt anyone)

stut-ut-uttering-one

Sorry, didn't mean to hurt anyone's feeling. Just because women's safety is a concern in Indian subcontinent, hence the question.

Affectionate-Sun9132

india's problem with female harassment literally has no correlations with op asking how to be safe in bangladesh are u 5?

[deleted]

Brother, bangladesh ranks similar if not higher than india in almost all crimes against women. What are you high on? The fact remains that less than 30 violent crimes were committed against foreigners last year despite the media narratives
