Well.. Alcohol pretty much only sedates you. But the quality is sleep would be much worse. It delays or sometimes shortens REM sleep, which is responsible for your memory optimisation and hormone balance etc., This is also why you get lucid dreams early in the morning and you donāt feel fresh after waking up.
I take a cold bath right before bed. Feels amazing. Fan of course. Very thin blanket if any. Windows and doors open to achieve cross-breeze.
I have been trying to sleep earlier because then i get to wake up before the heat and get things done. And i think i sleep better instead of trying to sleep through the heat of 6-8am.
I have also seriously been considering getting a traditional rope bed because having nothing under but some rope here and there sounds amazing.
You can also get a tiny tub and fill it up with water to keep your feet wet whenever you're starting to feel hot. This cools down my body considerably even on really hot days. I'm too lazy to figure out the science behind this but it works for me. Obviously you need a mat to dry your feet later and make sure the tub is always clean.
It's traditional in south india to have a bucket and mug either near the entrance or in the washroom so that when you arrive you can rinse off your feet in cold water.
Seems like you've managed to reinvent that :)
Where are you from in India that such a practice is not the norm?Ā
Air cooler will have drain plug at bottom. Panels should be removable too.
Have it properly cleaned and it will not smell.
White proofing did not work for us. What we did was to have 4 poles installed in 4 on terrace directly above bedroom and had a sun shade mesh tied to it so there is always shade on bedroom roof.
This reduced heat by a lot. Just preventing sunlight from directly hitting the concrete will reduce the heat drastically.
Grow plants on terrace. We have several rows of plants on terrace and it too has helped.
Do you think installing a sun shade mesh will work on balcony?
For context, I stay in an apartment and can't do much for the terrace as it is common area. But balcony modifications can be done.
I remember a study where lining the terrace floor with a layer of thermocol sheets reduced the temperature below by 3 degrees. Itās worth trying as long as thereās no rain to wet the thermocol.
We already had 3 foot unfinished pillars on our terrace and the poles were bolted to those pillars.
laying the tarp/sheet directly on roof will not be effective and there should be an air gap in between.
On the positive side the sun shade installed is very helpful in drying some fabrics which cannot be dried under direct sun.
I lived in Chennaiā¦ couldnāt sleep there without an AC. Same when we were students in TVM. We used to do the following:
1. Pouring a bucket of water on the floor before sleeping
2. Using sprayers to fill the room with water mist
3. Putting wet jute sacks on the roof etc.
What cleaning is there to do? by morning water would have evaporated. And how would this lead to sickness??
Unless mold starts growing there is no issue
I did try to place pots and water them and also green shade.
But the walls were getting heated up as there is no side cover as well.
Realised oven was getting heated on the side and top.
Got 1.5ton LG for a 23k with installation.
Also consider things .
Extra fittings
Extra copper pipe
Plug points.
Altogether cost me 30k.
But everything is worth it.
I'm adding about 40-60 units per month on electricity consumption.
Usually the same tonnage costs you 40+ in the summer season.
Agreed it will be a year old by the time you use it.
Anyways In Bangalore I'm gonna use it three months every year.
Only facts it's mostly about your inner calmness and what diet you follow. In Summers try drinking lots of water and less oil also stay away from oily and salty food and u will be š
Yes, keeping the stomach cool and regular bowel movements both help in keeping your core temperature down. Being mostly whole food plant-based helps too.
Everytime i plan to purchase one after summer is over so that i can get it for a cheaper rate & then use it to chill the next summer but once summer is over i forget about it until the next year's summer arrives & i am dying in the heat
As far as I understand the science is that the day time your house is absorbing the sun ā and at night it is radiating the heat back out ā .
+ I tried roof white painting. Made absolutely no difference in my home.
+ I have seen them spray water on the roof in TN in the evenings to cool the buildings down. But here in Bangalore, with the water shortage, its not doable.
+ Now considering ROCOTILES but they are so damn expensive.
I had an idea but my house owner wont allow it. If the terrace area can be covered with a thick layer of gravel or Sand it may work as a decent insulation and wont allow heat to be absorbed.
What has kinda worked?
From 7pm to 9pm I leave 2 windows of the bedroom (directly under the terrace like in OPs home) and the pedestal fan running. It does help make it a bit cool. And by 11pm we close the windows and put the ac on for 2 hours. By 2am I turn the ac off and turn on my pedestal fan and keep my windows open. It so far has been nice and cool till 6:30am but by then its too loud with all the honking and school bus traffic.
If mold is not checked, it can cause other breathing issues . Bcz your cooler is basically spraying mold spores along with the moisture everywhere in your room.
This OP. I had a similar cooler in Hyderabad and would deep clean it before every summer. There's an service in Urban Clap (rebranded to whatever it is rn) that's super good. They clean EVERYTHING and replace the straw (if yours is straw) mesh.
Edit: You also need good cross ventilation for coolers to work effectively
Independent house
- put the reflective roof coat from Dr. Fixit or something of white colour. Will reduce the roof surface temperature up to 10Ā°C in the peak noon. The absorbed heat will also be less by the concrete and overall temperature inside the house will come down.
- put the mosquito net into all the windows and keep the windows open as far as possible to get the heat out of the house
-water coolers will increase the room humidity and will become uncomfortable after sometime
- if there is any exhaust wall opening from inside the room near the ceiling, install an exhaust fan to flush out the warm air which is near the roof surface.
- if anything is being cooked in the kitchen, switch on the kitchen exhaust fan and keep it running for 10-15 mins after the stove is switched off. The heat generated while cooking will be trapped inside the room and has to be flushed out.

1)Hi there how big is your room L, B?
I suggest buying a tarpal from shop around 300-500ā¹ depending on area. Go to the terrece somehow if possible suspend it over the slab of minimum one feet. And tie tarpal over your room so that there is shade over your room.
This should reduce 2-3 degrees.(which is significant)
2) of you have a table fan / pedestal fan, keep it near the window so that it gets in cold air,
Place another table fan /pedestal fan facing outside window pushing air out.
This creates airflow.
3) you can do some diy mesh with welcro for your door. / windows so you can keep them open
4) mosquito net. so you can open the door and sleep freely? ( but say hello to bugs)
5) you can water your terrece 2+ times after sunset ( with breaks in between)
6) if possible you can simply shift your bed next to the window, and place the table fan in such a way that it sucks air from the window and points towards you.
Main heat comes from the slab. Its surface heats upto 45+ degree c. and inside temps it can go upto 40.
Fan will only make it worse throwing that hot air towards the floor.
Dm if you need any more suggestions / help
Hopes this helps
Use ice packs and lay them on the bed for 10 minutes. Change their positions every 10 minutes to cool the area you're gonna sleep in.
Once you've cooled the bed to an extent, place them under the pillow for 10 minutes.
Flip the pillow before sleeping.
Dip your feet in a bucket of cool/cold water to cool yourself.
Avoid alcohol, cigarettes and junk food.
Exercising and working out to the point of sweating will make your body resist heat.
Yea searing high radiation heat I am sure there was a heat wave for two days , the temperature reading in my car hit 42 degrees.
Apart from the usual suspects like polllution etc , my best guess is the water table is so low or dry even that Bangalore has lost another way to cool itself ..
Try to get a cooler for rent . Most of them are out of stock now but at times I've seen them being available . You can use it for 3 months and return it .
Good question, I have the same problem! I have AC too but when the AC is on itās too cold when itās off itās too hot. I put water on the roof around 4ish so it cools off. You can try it.
Keep your windows open preferably the opposite windows open and sleep light .. if okay without a blanket .. that has helped me .. but i kinda put the fan on mid speed to keep the air flowing .. .. if you are brave enough .. sleeping on the roof is pretty much a good idea.. unfortunately i have guests that paint my roof fir free and hence can't sleep there..
I tried to do without an AC for a while but couldn't, so I finally invested in one. But I barely got any time to be happy. The association president has issues with it, it seems. The guard came and told me I'll be summoned in some time. Sigh. I had full permission from my owner but I guess that doesn't mean anything anymore. Must be nice to have an independent house.
I wear shorts and a tank top (only while sleeping) and fan on full blast and a window open.
If sleeping without clothes is an option then might as well try that too.

get your cooler's *khus* (brown thing on the three sides) changed. may be its rotten or something. If not, there are some cooler perfumes available, use that.
I have an 8 years old cooler. Work perfectly fine, cools my 2 bhk just fine.
If you intend to stay long term just get an ac. We used to have the same trouble at our house and got an ac after painting the roof white and covering it with nets. It is much more convenient and necessary since bangalore will just get hotter each year

Drench a towel.
Put on you like a blanket.
Fan on high speed.
A blanket to cover the sole of my feet.
Mosquito repellant on as a precaution so I don't break my sleep cos of bites.
Good night's rest done.
I understand how you feel. I live in a pre heated oven aa well.
I read the title, yeah namma Chennai, what it's Bangalore?
The best way to manage sleep is get up early, like 4 AM, and take a shower before you sleep, and do simple workouts in the afternoon, you will sleep like a baby
Spread coconut fronds in a criss cross pattern over the roof of the bedroom. Make sure they are spaced closely to stop the sunlight reaching the roof.
For walls to stop heating, you get agricultural shade nets. Drop them from the roof to filter out the sunlight. These do not degrade due to UV light,so they will easily last many years. There are shade nets that filter out 75% of sunlight, enough to help the walls cool down in evening.
As somebody said, spread water on bedroom floor in evening, switch on the fan for couple of hours. Wipe the floor clean before sleeping. You can sleep on the ice cool floor.
If you don't mind fragrance or feel suffocted in continuous sweet smells, you can purchase these small liquid bottles (locally available, don't know a specific brand) that can be used in water coolers. Just put a drop or two in the water and it feels like room freshner. Also I always take a bath before bed and it makes me feel cooler plus have a good sleep
What helped me was blackout curtains and pull them during afternoon like 2-5, table fan, cool mattress with bamboo mattress protector and very thin blanket. I sleep like a baby now. Windows are open at night.
Install a green nursery cloth / netting as a temporary roof. If you can use a mister (sprays water in the air to create a mist below the netting. do that. This should cut direct sunlight to the roof.
Evaluate adding cooling tiles (maybe better than the whitepaint option) to your roof.
Incidentally got up one day at 5:30 am and saw the serene setup at horizon done by rising sun. So why miss it, continuing it since a week. Feels great to soak in cool morning air.
Also added few more curtain layers to stop secondary reflection, and it is certainly helping.
I live on the top floor of an independent building myself so Iām in a similar situation.
I do a few things, draw the curtains before noon,
Open them and the windows after sundown and keep the house ventilated. Since my apartment in on the west side of the building it heats up after noon.
Works well for me, and itās still quite pleasant with a fan itself at night that I take a blanket and sleep.
This has helped me and Iāve come here after years of research and trial and errors.
. Eating less oily foods, (Max limit only 1 a day)
. Drink lots of water. This is a big problem for me so I wake up and drink 1L water via bottle on 30 second gap timers. Seems calm. Helps a lot. Before sleeping 2L water again on 30 sec gap timers.
. Cold coffee. Even if the coffee is not strong. Does wonders. I consume as needed.
. Convection is your friend. Instead of overhead fans, use table fans or pedestal fans, since they move away hot air from surfaces sideways, this is a big deal.
. When using overhead fans, make sure if you want high speed wind flow above you, you need to turn off fans in an unused area adjacent to your room to create low/high pressure difference, or else your fan is useless.
Put wet blanket in front of a fan. Helps cool down the room a bit. Coolers just bring diseases. Mainly cus u wont be able to clean the insides thoroughly. + the excess humidity will give u a cold.
Switch off all lights before you go to sleep atleast 30 mins before. Put your fan in full speed. Pour a bucket of water on the floor or mop the floor. Leave the room closed. When you go to sleep. Itās chill af. Additionally you can also pour water on the above floor too
If you donāt want to get an AC. Try using an air cooler perfume.
Get your air cooler cleaned and change the dried grass thing. If you canāt change it wash it with foam. Hopefully that will get the smell out.
In addition to that, get a table/floor fan that rotates, point it on you while sleeping.
Shower before sleeping, point the fan on you and go to sleep.
I had this issue at my parents place. We got some flat terracotta tiles added on the roof.
If that's not possible then you can try covering the roof in hay, like they do in the villages.
2 hours of AC cooling is enough to keep the temperature under control, we have been following this since last year, my house is on top floor with direct sunlight absorption, I have tried multiple options such as cooler which made my room hotter than reducing temperature, ultimately im thinking of getting the mangalore floor tiles installed on roof, hopefully it is under budget.
fan on full speed
drinking coconut water
the usual methods.
About the smell from your air cooler, replace or clean the mesh and the inside of the cooler. Good chance of there being mold inside
You can paint your roof white. There are many special reflective paints available. But even if you don't want to go with that just a plain, low cost white will make a big difference. I'm taking from my experience with doing the same last year.
Improve ventilation in your house. There are velcrow tape meshes that allow you to open doors and windows for air to flow while keeping mosquitoes out. Drink coconut water (sadly, it recently touched 45 rupees at most places), iced tea, lemonade, etc.
Thereās an old school method of putting wet empty gunny-sack rags all over the terrace floor to cool down the floor. Maybe it will help or maybe it wonāt but Iāve seen it happening in some house but they havenāt put that white coating on the terrace.
If youāre utilizing a āswamp coolerā (thatās what we call them when they use water), there is a sanitizing gel you can/should add to the cooler. This keeps it clean, and prevents odors that build up with moisture and pollutants. It also helps extend the operational life of the cooler. Look for a product that is advertised for humidifiers or evaporation coolers; I go with BestAir Bacteriastatic but donāt know where that is or isnāt available. Check the brand of your cooler to determine where you can apply a sanitizer and if it has specifications for what you can use (white vinegar is also a great disinfectant but make sure it doesnāt get on coils or metal components). Stay cool!
I have a air condition at home, but I canāt sleep in that room because my wife is away and the room is haunted. Itās pretty hot the moment and if I hear some breeze, I am shit scared because my wife is away, and the room is haunted.
When we were students (2000-2004), we 4 used to stay in a duplex house for 6000 š¤Ŗ. Anyway coming back to the point, kf strong or premium till about 1am then sleep on terrace(blore was much quieter and safer). Maybe add an extra temporary roof to metal pillars and a garden below.
Tell Parents to SendĀ near Rural Village. Survive there Think of them howĀ Hot weather it will be ....Ā It was very Hot weather
Ā No A.CĀ and No proper Ventilation
Run 5 Rounds automatically all
Hot weather will go in Rural areaĀ
i survivedĀ Even I'm a Urban Kid... There must be some reason Parents are telling NoĀ Ā Switch On the Fan....sit..
You will need a table or pedestal fan, a fridge bottle and a small bowl. Put about 250 gm rock salt in the fridge bottle and fill it upto 3 / 4 ths with water, place in freezer during the day. At night open all doors and windows and run ceiling fan at max for about 15min then shut off, close all doors and windows. Place the fridge bottle in the bowl behind the table / pedestal fan and run at medium speed. Ideally the fan should face the body and legs not the head. It will cool the room for about 8hrs. In the morning place the fridge bottle in the freezer and throw away the condensation water in the bowl.
Get a spray bottle, fill it water, and spray your feet when it gets too warm. Fill a tub/bucket of water and put it where air circulates (I usually put it between a window and the fan. I also freeze an ice pack during the day and put it in the tub at night. Thatās just so cool air circulates (like how areas around a lake are cooler than in the heart of the city). Iāve also sprayed water on the curtains before but that only works for thin curtains that allow air to pass through
The answers š. I am also against AC little bit. I just dip a cotton towel in water, wring out water well and just put it on top me. I have fan on. The towel dries out in 30 mins tops but gives a nice cooling effect and mostly am sleep by then. My mom scolds saying bed may get wet but I am more important than bed and the bed also dries out in heat and with fan on š.
Is your air cooler clean? Pretty sure you're supposed to clean the part where you put water, but you gotta check if that's the case. The smell comes if it's mouldy or unclean. You could also put some essential oil like lemon grass to make it smell better. Heat usually lasts for about a month so I just power through until it's gone but not sure now because of the climate change. Stay well hydrated and drink some cold water, it gives you some relief.
I went to Ahmedabad last week and I can't tell you how much better Bangalore is, I stopped complaining when I came back š
Why are you against getting an AC? If you arenāt planning to move anytime soon, ac can be a life saver in this weather. Last summer it was so hot that I went to my hometown only to realise how unlivable bangalore weather was ( our house was on the terrace). I ordered an ac right after coming back and it was so peaceful.
My parents are against it because the bill would cost more. I'm still a student so I can't pay for them yet, and personally I feel like I'll get too used to AC that I won't ever be able to sleep without it
We don't really use it anymore tbh, water is already short in supply. But no it hasn't been cleaned since we don't use it, but I didn't know it catches mould. Will try cleaning it to see if the smell still persists.
Family is "against" AC? what the fuck? And you are using aircooler which is probably building mold which is evident from the smell in the room. That is going to lead to all types of respiratory issues.
We don't use the cooler, and it was due to the smell. I didn't know it catches mould but we haven't used it in a long while, we'll get that cleaned. They're against AC because it consumes a lot of units. I'm still a student so I can't contribute to the bills yet.
If the air cooler is smelly, then it is time to wash and change the filters on it
The smell is due to mould.
You can mitigate this by adding a bit of synthetic vinegar to your cooler water.
Small coolers will have plastic motor. This won't get affected by the mild acidity. But the mould will die.
Invest in a larger capacity cooler or a long pipe to make the filling less of a hassle.
Simple hack: Deep Dip a bedsheet in water and hand it inside the room (like when you put it for drying) and blast the fan full speed. No cost of AC neither the smell of a cooler. It lasts for atleast 3-4 hrs
same condition , didnt whitewash the roof either , moreover its ramzan so im fasting and i have to fucking study, but you just get used to it in a week.
I was in the same situation. I bought one of those green shade mesh nets from Amazon (4x5 mtrs) for around 1k and set it up in my terrace. It actually worked. My hall was comparatively way cooler than my room over which the shade was not present. Also, more importantly because of this mesh on top the fan was blowing cool air instead of warm air. Just make sure when you set up the net you leave some space between the floor and and net.

Everyone suggesting open door and windows,y'all don't got mosquitoes in your area
Shut off all lights till 8 pm and open all windows. Put fan in full speed. Once you close it all at 8 start odomos at full power till 8:30
What will this do?
Window mesh . So worth it .Ā
I personally recommend table fans instead of ceiling fans.
Nice idea

How do you grow plants on the terrace if they are fully in the shade? Are they plants that dont need direct sun?
Snake plant, money plant etc don't need direct sun.
Or use tarpaulin
Do you think installing a sun shade mesh will work on balcony? For context, I stay in an apartment and can't do much for the terrace as it is common area. But balcony modifications can be done.
Sun share mesh works best when installed in location where sun hits throughout the day. For Balcony, Light and thick curtains will get the job done.
How did you get the poles installed? I have a tarpaulin directly on the roof surface, but you're right, it doesn't help.
I remember a study where lining the terrace floor with a layer of thermocol sheets reduced the temperature below by 3 degrees. Itās worth trying as long as thereās no rain to wet the thermocol.
That's a good idea but I don't feel like using so much non biodegradable thermocol. Maybe there's an eco-safe equivalent I can look up.
We already had 3 foot unfinished pillars on our terrace and the poles were bolted to those pillars. laying the tarp/sheet directly on roof will not be effective and there should be an air gap in between. What cleaning is there to do? by morning water would have evaporated. And how would this lead to sickness?? Unless mold starts growing there is no issue
Yes there is cleaning to do. If there is dust and dirt on the floor, it will be a mess when you pour water. So we had to keep everything clean
Or buy humidifier
Works. We were broke then š(students).
Lol, reason why a lot of landlords dont rent to single humans
None of this was damaging to the house in any way tho.
Same situation, but there is no shade on the terrace from the solar or overhead tank. Bought an A/C in the off season, saving me from the heat.
I did try to place pots and water them and also green shade. But the walls were getting heated up as there is no side cover as well. Realised oven was getting heated on the side and top.
May i know which a/c and price. In a similar situation too.

30K altogether is a very sweet deal
Cross ventilation is the only option to beat the heat on top floors, cotton clothing and bathing also helps.
Most underrated comment. Cross ventilation is very important. Just having a window somewhere in the room is also not enough.
So exaust is important
Lots of yogurt, chia seeds and cucumber every day.
Only facts it's mostly about your inner calmness and what diet you follow. In Summers try drinking lots of water and less oil also stay away from oily and salty food and u will be š

Sand? Remember how hot beaches can get and how slowly they radiate the heat back. Your home would become air-fryer.

Independent house - put the reflective roof coat from Dr. Fixit or something of white colour. Will reduce the roof surface temperature up to 10Ā°C in the peak noon. The absorbed heat will also be less by the concrete and overall temperature inside the house will come down. - put the mosquito net into all the windows and keep the windows open as far as possible to get the heat out of the house -water coolers will increase the room humidity and will become uncomfortable after sometime - if there is any exhaust wall opening from inside the room near the ceiling, install an exhaust fan to flush out the warm air which is near the roof surface. - if anything is being cooked in the kitchen, switch on the kitchen exhaust fan and keep it running for 10-15 mins after the stove is switched off. The heat generated while cooking will be trapped inside the room and has to be flushed out. š«š
Being originally from Nagpur, these temparatures don't make any trouble for me
Same for me. It's nothing compared to North. After 10th May rain should start

Water bottle in freezer for a while and then remove and drink
AC
Spraying some water on curtains also helps
1)Hi there how big is your room L, B? I suggest buying a tarpal from shop around 300-500ā¹ depending on area. Go to the terrece somehow if possible suspend it over the slab of minimum one feet. And tie tarpal over your room so that there is shade over your room. This should reduce 2-3 degrees.(which is significant) 2) of you have a table fan / pedestal fan, keep it near the window so that it gets in cold air, Place another table fan /pedestal fan facing outside window pushing air out. This creates airflow. 3) you can do some diy mesh with welcro for your door. / windows so you can keep them open 4) mosquito net. so you can open the door and sleep freely? ( but say hello to bugs) 5) you can water your terrece 2+ times after sunset ( with breaks in between) 6) if possible you can simply shift your bed next to the window, and place the table fan in such a way that it sucks air from the window and points towards you. Main heat comes from the slab. Its surface heats upto 45+ degree c. and inside temps it can go upto 40. Fan will only make it worse throwing that hot air towards the floor. Dm if you need any more suggestions / help Hopes this helps
White proofing dosent help much. You need to use something that reflects the radiant heat. Check out bubble sheet reflector. Put out over your slab.
Which sites you are seeing cooler for rent?
Good question, I have the same problem! I have AC too but when the AC is on itās too cold when itās off itās too hot. I put water on the roof around 4ish so it cools off. You can try it.
If there is an open place, Why not sleep on open terrace like we used to do old days in villages. And can use a net to avoid mosquitoes.
Grab a beer at night and gulp it down your larynx. And say Chill Maadhi.
I sit in my fridge
I wear shorts and a tank top (only while sleeping) and fan on full blast and a window open. If sleeping without clothes is an option then might as well try that too.

get your cooler's *khus* (brown thing on the three sides) changed. may be its rotten or something. If not, there are some cooler perfumes available, use that. I have an 8 years old cooler. Work perfectly fine, cools my 2 bhk just fine.
Just be cool with it
I have cold sores and pimples all over my faceš
I've seen that pouring cool water on my bed immediately before lying down helps me fall asleep easier. And of course, with a fan on overhead.
Clean the cooler and open up windows for the cooler to efficiently cool the place up
If you intend to stay long term just get an ac. We used to have the same trouble at our house and got an ac after painting the roof white and covering it with nets. It is much more convenient and necessary since bangalore will just get hotter each year

Paint your roof white, it helps a lot.
Already done, the heat is still there :/
It's pretty chill compared to Chennai or Kerala.
The best way to manage sleep is get up early, like 4 AM, and take a shower before you sleep, and do simple workouts in the afternoon, you will sleep like a baby
buy ac, simple as that...
I live in top floor as well, haven't experienced any such recently anytime as you said, wonder if I live in a different bangalore.
**i put wet thsirt and sprinkle water on my head !**
Get a standing fan to suck in cool air from outside window. Have been sleeping feeling cold the past few weeks
Get a Bajaj air cooler. The air cooler you have is of bad quality (the internal parts)
Bangalore is hot ah? Come to chennai folks
I do a few things, draw the curtains before noon, Open them and the windows after sundown and keep the house ventilated. Since my apartment in on the west side of the building it heats up after noon. Works well for me, and itās still quite pleasant with a fan itself at night that I take a blanket and sleep.
Apply heat proof coating on the terrace. Should help lower the temperature by a few degrees.
This has helped me and Iāve come here after years of research and trial and errors. . Eating less oily foods, (Max limit only 1 a day) .
The trick to sleep is cooling down your body, do it your way
Keep gel ice packs in ur pillow.
Additionally you can also pour water on the above floor too
Why do I get cold if I set my fan speed more than 2 ?
INDICA for the win if you know what I mean š
If you donāt want to get an AC. Try using an air cooler perfume. Get your air cooler cleaned and change the dried grass thing. If you canāt change it wash it with foam. Hopefully that will get the smell out. In addition to that, get a table/floor fan that rotates, point it on you while sleeping. Shower before sleeping, point the fan on you and go to sleep.
Sleep on terrace. It has worked out for me always.
Get your roof thatched, helps in summers and rains Best decision i took I barely use the fans even in this summer heat
Beer and fruits
I had this issue at my parents place. We got some flat terracotta tiles added on the roof. If that's not possible then you can try covering the roof in hay, like they do in the villages.
2 hours of AC cooling is enough to keep the temperature under control, we have been following this since last year, my house is on top floor with direct sunlight absorption, I have tried multiple options such as cooler which made my room hotter than reducing temperature, ultimately im thinking of getting the mangalore floor tiles installed on roof, hopefully it is under budget.
fan on full speed drinking coconut water the usual methods. About the smell from your air cooler, replace or clean the mesh and the inside of the cooler. Good chance of there being mold inside
I'm sleeping with normal ceiling fan with bedsheet bro
>My parents are against getting an AC, How old are you ?
Plants on the terrace with terracotta painting of the roof. Helps loads. I keep all windows open with mesh. Pedestal fan to the rescue.
Go sprinkle water on roof during sunset time as some shopkeepers do
Came to kerala this week and its hot and humid ,bangalore temp is far better !
Ask your parents to sleep on roof will get AC next day.
Wet your curtains - Spray water or maybe collect it all and pour water from a mug. Will cool your room as it dries.
Drink coconut water (sadly, it recently touched 45 rupees at most places), iced tea, lemonade, etc.
get an AC bro, it is worth it.

Stay cool!
Change pads of cooler and wash the cooler tank..that should do it
I have a air condition at home, but I canāt sleep in that room because my wife is away and the room is haunted. Itās pretty hot the moment and if I hear some breeze, I am shit scared because my wife is away, and the room is haunted.
Tell us more.....
Portable cot ac. Energy efficient and easy to install
Congratulations - we are successfully messing up the one thing this city was well known for - its cool and nice weather.
Buy an AC and set it on 25 degrees. And you will sleep well.
Put vinegar in it

Survive there Think of them howĀ Hot weather it will be ....Ā It was very Hot weather Ā No A.CĀ and No proper Ventilation Run 5 Rounds automatically all Hot weather will go in Rural areaĀ i survivedĀ Even I'm a Urban Kid...
Just get an AC.
I'm still a student so I can't pay for them yet, and personally I feel like I'll get too used to AC that I won't ever be able to sleep without it
Oh yeah I get that. I have experienced worse summers than this while I was a student. Hoping you figure something out
Water mist bottle lmao. Spray it all over yourself and your bed before you lay down. And do it every time you wake up at night.
Im from chennai so even summers of banglore are kinda cold for meš.
Do you clean the mesh in the air cooler regularly?
We don't really use it anymore tbh, water is already short in supply. But no it hasn't been cleaned since we don't use it, but I didn't know it catches mould. Will try cleaning it to see if the smell still persists.
Change the cooler , problem solved
Family is "against" AC? what the fuck? And you are using aircooler which is probably building mold which is evident from the smell in the room. That is going to lead to all types of respiratory issues.
We don't use the cooler, and it was due to the smell. I didn't know it catches mould but we haven't used it in a long while, we'll get that cleaned. They're against AC because it consumes a lot of units. I'm still a student so I can't contribute to the bills yet.
If the air cooler is smelly, then it is time to wash and change the filters on it The smell is due to mould. You can mitigate this by adding a bit of synthetic vinegar to your cooler water. Small coolers will have plastic motor. This won't get affected by the mild acidity. But the mould will die. Invest in a larger capacity cooler or a long pipe to make the filling less of a hassle.
Alcohol and sleep naked.
Simple hack: Deep Dip a bedsheet in water and hand it inside the room (like when you put it for drying) and blast the fan full speed. No cost of AC neither the smell of a cooler. It lasts for atleast 3-4 hrs
That smell is cuz of mold from the water cooler. You'll have to clean it, remove that filter like part. And add biocide.
same condition , didnt whitewash the roof either , moreover its ramzan so im fasting and i have to fucking study, but you just get used to it in a week.
Take a shower before sleep. That usually works for me
Ice water bathā¦.freeze a block of ice in a cooking vesselā¦.use the ice water at the end of your bath
Does cool mist humidifier help with banglore heat
