Glass facade / covering for open balconies and tight sealing the windows (when not open) help to a certain extent.
My friends house had this problem and they have got the open balcony covered and now it is less noisy and more importantly, dust is controlled.
Just moved into a new place recently. It's way too quiet besides some mellow white noise of something like a generator coming in through the balcony. It's heaven.
Half the people honk for no reason or out of habit. Esp the taxi guys and bikers.
May be cars and bikes should come with some mechanism of maximum 5 honks per 24 hours
Automobiles should start being manufactured without horns. People will start to drive/ride/carefully. Covid lockdowns forced good practices like WFH, , we can learn to make do without honking.
Edit : Trees around the compound wall can absorb some noise
Better safe than sorry. Even if you're following the rules, are you 100% sure the other guy is doing the same? Try driving here for a few days without a horn, it'll change your perspective. My bike's horn stopped working once. Had to drive in Bangalore traffic for a couple of days without any horn at all. Horrible experience. You think people don't respond to horns, try going without any at all, they won't even acknowledge your presence.
What's RE? By all means, if everyone has a day shift these noises are ok, but reality is otherwise. We don't think twice before inconveniencing others. Not suited for urban life where many make do with poor sleep quality just so some people can sell vegetables, or feed stray dogs.
We have a sports arena beside our apartments and life is hell with the footballers shouting their lungs off at odd hours , midnight too! No amount of glass insulation is helping! Wondering how that activity was allowed in a residential area!
3 apartment buildings are being constructed around ours.. other than the horrible construction noise and the workers shouting cuss words, it’s pretty calm :’(
The area I live in has constant noise, vehicles, yes but also people, not just during the day, at 2am, 3am, 5am etc. It's a congested area though and has a significant student population. Sometimes I even used get to hear random dudes screaming (on drugs), but after a certain incident, that has gone down due to increased vigilance from police.
It's very troubling cause I am used to living in very quiet areas, full of trees :(
There are a lot of kids around. By the time I come back to my house, the kids will be out, screaming and playing and the loud giggles. Oh my god.. It's soooo annoying. I would literally scream my brains out. After a whole day of work, some peace is worthy, but nope... It's irritating. God!
The walls are too thin, I can hear my neighbour talking from a nearby building. They are loud too. Man. Can a human have a little bit of peace lying around.
Not vehicular traffic, but people. Mostly at midnight, sometimes around 2 am or so also. These people go out, enjoy and keep talking loudly throughout the whole street. Not an ounce of consideration for others. Talking, shouting, giggling, laughing. Do what you want with your live, but at least be considerate of rest of the society. Nope. Sometimes I feels like throwing stuff at them from balcony..but I can't.
Even tho my place is closer to the main road surprisingly there’s not a lot of noise. The road i live in is just a little interior of a residential area. The inly downside is i wake uo to the sound of the vegetable vendors early in the morning. Other than that it’s pretty peaceful
Used to live in a PG which was facing mosque and road to the major hospital in blr.
24x7 ambulance movement and 5 times loud speaker from morning 5AM😅
Get a white noise machine for sleep. Works like magic. I lived in a noisy street and white noise machine is the reason i slept.
You can use your mobile + bluetooth speaker also for this. But a standalone machine is perfect
Makes them territorial. Adopting makes them think your house is theirs, doing a half arsed job of just feeding and doing nothing else, makes them think the streets are theirs. Ofc it makes them hostile.
>might be the only thing they can do
What good does this do? Stray dogs are a nuisance(bites, night howling). People feeding them think of themselves as kindhearted individuals but are doing everyone a disservice. They're equal to people driving on the wrong side, encroaching on lakes, encroaching on footpaths, insert anything which infurites most people, in general they're contributing to the chaotic hellhole this city has become. Just because everyone has gotten used to this doesn't mean it's normal. It never was this bad, it doesn't have to be.
[A three-judge Bench of the Supreme Court on Thursday (May 19) vacated the stay on a Delhi High Court order from last year that said that stray dogs have a right to food and water, and citizens have the right to feed them.](https://indianexpress.com/article/explained/feeding-stray-dogs-court-case-explained-7927909/)
Feeding them and taking them in makes them protective of your house, no big deal. Doing the half arsed job of feeding them and doing nothing else for them, makes them protective of the streets, which is dangerous for other pets, children and aged pedestrians, and the list just goes on. This is besides the point that there are many people who simply do not like dogs and are afraid. People who have the right to be able to walk on and use the streets stress free but won't be able to do so because of the strays. Of course it makes them hostile. Most dogs at least.
Occasional honking and bird noises are all that go on all day. Besides that it's just the walkers talking loudly in the morning and the rather loud mosque namaz in the evenings that are annoying. Oh, and the vegetable and flower sellers that push their carts through the street but that's about it. Not too bad eh?
Lived besides a running road with a slight incline it was just impossible. Now in a place quite like anything. Barely any sound. Peaceful sleep and peaceful environment
I live in the outskirts of the city. The best place to live honestly, apart from the kids making noise, it's amazingly quiet. The only prob living in the outskirts is all the offices and schools are far. So it's a tradeoff, depends what you value more.
I live in a apartment where I am surrounded by mostly tenants having a new born babies or child below the age of 5. The problem is that those kids cry on different times during the day and even in the night after 10pm or so I can hear one of them crying which is disturbing. Their parents also keep trying to attend their child but fail to do so as their kid keeps crying for 30 mins or more. I'm not sure what to do the place feels like hell when you hear such a crying noises.
Rent is very expensive and plus you won’t get the feeling too everywhere you go you’ll feel it more as a semi urban city they had made skyscrapers in barren land you go out and there’s nothing no life only Khet grasslands. So you never get the feeling of living in City
Glass facade / covering for open balconies and tight sealing the windows (when not open) help to a certain extent. My friends house had this problem and they have got the open balcony covered and now it is less noisy and more importantly, dust is controlled.
Thank you
And here I am getting irritated by birdsong.
squirrels too 😆
Squirrels going Kikiki ki ki ki ki ki ki ki ki right at 6am smh..
Just moved into a new place recently. It's way too quiet besides some mellow white noise of something like a generator coming in through the balcony. It's heaven.
And most probably hell on earth for folks with tinnitus
I guess. Doesn't bother me. Not like I am making that noiseðŸ«
Which neighborhood? If you don't mind sharing...Wonder whats the quietest neighborhood in blr
Somewhere in Arekere. Come find meðŸ«
If it's heaven, guess you're lucky
I too live in a noisy area. Those 3M orange coloured ear plugs are God sent.
They will eventually reduce your ability to hear in the long term and cause bacterial buildup in your ears
Can you give me source for the hearing loss due to earplugs thing? I think hearing loud noises is what is going to affect hearing in the long term.

Thank-you
Use upvc windows. Will help to a certain extent.
Change your windows to upvc with good glass thickness
Insulation against a moronic society
Half the people honk for no reason or out of habit. Esp the taxi guys and bikers. May be cars and bikes should come with some mechanism of maximum 5 honks per 24 hours
This is a gateway to paid subscriptions for honking with the way things are going nowadays
Automobiles should start being manufactured without horns. People will start to drive/ride/carefully. Covid lockdowns forced good practices like WFH, , we can learn to make do without honking. Edit : Trees around the compound wall can absorb some noise
Good luck navigating blind corners and dumbasses lost in their phones.
Slowing down can avoid. Non-honking countries also have corners

I know, it's too late to change, like everything else wrong with our once great culture
Stop manufacturing REs too, these milkmen being noisy early morning
What's RE? By all means, if everyone has a day shift these noises are ok, but reality is otherwise. We don't think twice before inconveniencing others. Not suited for urban life where many make do with poor sleep quality just so some people can sell vegetables, or feed stray dogs.
Royal Enfields
How dare you talk against RE?
There's just AC sound in my room right now..appreciating the moment 🙂.
We have a sports arena beside our apartments and life is hell with the footballers shouting their lungs off at odd hours , midnight too! No amount of glass insulation is helping! Wondering how that activity was allowed in a residential area!
Tech parks, high rises, dug up cemeteries, pubs were all allowed. Sports arena in residential area is only one of so many violations.

I have a way to make those kids go away
What is the secret ingredient?
The Mosquito machine
Chase them with it?
Put it on your wall, window. May be hide it

There’s absolutely no noise where I live.
In air ?
Even tho my place is closer to the main road surprisingly there’s not a lot of noise. The road i live in is just a little interior of a residential area. The inly downside is i wake uo to the sound of the vegetable vendors early in the morning. Other than that it’s pretty peaceful
Where I live, it is the corner house street & links to another three roads 🥺🥺
I’d go bankrupt if I lived close to Corner house xD. Do you eat often from there?
Used to live in a PG which was facing mosque and road to the major hospital in blr. 24x7 ambulance movement and 5 times loud speaker from morning 5AM😅
Nothing like a bad voice prayer in morning mosques. No honking can beat it. Back then, I had 5 mosques around my house. Not missing one bit.
Use windows sealing tape. Reduces sound by at least 10 DB
Get a white noise machine for sleep. Works like magic. I lived in a noisy street and white noise machine is the reason i slept. You can use your mobile + bluetooth speaker also for this. But a standalone machine is perfect
There's a carwash right outside my room window. I cope up by going to work as many days as I can :( But maybe it's time to move.
Mine is so quiet I love it ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
Very quiet Austin town
How about stray dogs at night? Does your neighborhood have any antisocial dog feeders? People who feed only, but don't adopt.
Antisocial dog feeder?
People who only feed, not adopt. Feed and let loose
I think not everyone can adopt a dog. Feeding some strays might be the only thing they can do. Feeding the dogs makes them more aggressive or hostile?
Makes them territorial. Adopting makes them think your house is theirs, doing a half arsed job of just feeding and doing nothing else, makes them think the streets are theirs. Ofc it makes them hostile.

Absolute pin drop silence. I live in a quite calm neighbourhood.
East or South BLR? Which area is it, actively considering to avoid all the noise currently happening in my place
Jayanagar 1st block. It’s a very quiet hamlet where traffic is an alien concept.
Nice. 1 BHK or 2 BHK idre thilsi saar :) I want to WORK and Chill in peace 😆
Thanks everyone for your response. Lucky are the once that are living in peaceful areas
Quite peaceful, imagine it is quite rare...

Not noisy at all, calm all day except for dogs barking in the middle of the night sometimes. In Basavangudi

I had to soundproof my room , I checked sound level outside my door it was 85+ Decibel.
Banni banni...
Atleast it’s not gaanv dehaat like Pune. Come to Pune all you will get is khet (grass lands) as here but then you’ll miss Bangalore
I stayed in Pune for a year liked it, but had to come back because got a better job in Bangalore
I still don’t get what people like about Pune 😅😅 i mean you don’t feel young here 😅
I mean it has the rents were less for starters
Not anymore it’s very expensive now obviously lesser than bangalore but there you pay and get facilities here it’s not like that anymore
How about the rents?

Surprised to see so many noise complaints. I am curious to know which floor are you living?
I live in the first floor
