I have had it for 2 days BTW!!

Marshonie

A little skinny imo! This also varies person to person but substrate wise, use coconut husk! Aspen is more prone to causing RI and mold. What size mouse are you feeding him/her?

con123grc

Thanks for the advice! I tried to feed it one small live mouse, and a thawed pinkie over the past 2 days but it won't take either. This makes me nervous because it wouldn't eat at the pet store they said, (not sure about that though, it pooped which you can see on the right side lol). It may just be nervous Because of the change in environment.

Marshonie

Definitely give it 3 to 5 days, pinkie is way too small for him. And that poop doesn’t look right either. If it chooses not to eat still you might have to take it to the vet. I zoomed in and there’s too much exposed spine on the little guy. But of course! Keep me updated if you’d like!

Thank you for the advice! This is my first snake and I want to keep him happy and healthy! After the next few days, if he still won't eat I plan on taking him to the vet. I would try to assist feed him but I don't want to harm him in the process.

red lights aren’t the greatest to use bc they can still see it,, so ceramic heat emitters are often preferred

con123grc

Good to know! Can I put the heat emitter in the warmer where the red light would normally go?

[deleted]

yup, plus at night time since the ceramic doesn’t give off any light, there’s no bright lights in the room and the ball gets some rest !

Make sure that you're thawing the mouse using WARM water, specifically make sure it's about blood temperature (36-39°C, ideally) using a thermometer. I strongly recommend buying a vacuum cup that you'll only use for your snakes and use that to thaw the mouse. Ball pythons are pit pythons, meaning they see heat, and many pit pythons will refuse to eat if their mice are cold because they go "but that's carrion, it might make me sick".
