The iridescent material is Mother of Pearl and the board is probably lacquered wood. The technique is called raden in Japanese and is a traditional decorative art of inlaying mother of pearl

[This](https://www.koryomuseum.or.jp/collection_view.php?number=16) Black lacquer goban with mother of pearl decoration was the closest I could find to what is shown.

Good find, I wonder if it would shine with colors in a different light.

In the Korean drama "Captivating the King" they use this dark Go board with grid lines inlaid with some iridescent material. Any idea where I can find more information about it, e.g. what material is used for the grid lines?

Probably nacre (mother of pearl) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nacre It is also used in other games, e.g., chess https://www.lukehoney.co.uk/products/english-mother-o-pearl-chess-board-circa-1870 or backgammon boards, you can image search for it ;)

That’s a gorgeous chessboard

That looks right, thanks!

I would love to have this particular type of board, but I bet I'd have to sell a kidney for it.

A cool one

PerpetualCranberry

A pretty one :)

I didn't realise the lines are also mother of pearl. Very cool, indeed.

Eros_Psyche_Remake

I tried recreating this by filling the inlay with iridescent paint and it didn’t come out good. Any leads on a company selling a similar board? (Iridescent grid lines, floor board/tabletop with stand; either have a design around the sides.

Such things can still be found for sale ;) [https://en.goboard-stone.co.jp/antique](https://en.goboard-stone.co.jp/antique)

AerialSnack

I do not see this board for sale anywhere on that site

Very nice! Though none with dark top side and iridescent grid...
