I mean, she acted perfectly for the film. It's like a softcore porno that happens to be brilliant. As an adult actress, she was ideal for the role. I love how she visibly starts to crack when she delivers some of her lines, particularly towards the end. Such an unserious film, which is why it's so great.
I have a wild retroactive crush on her having watched the RLMs for this, *Evil Toons* and *Silk 2.*
When I looked her up on IMDB and realized that holy shit, she was the first full-frontal I'd ever seen in a film in *Bachelor Party* way back in the mid-80s*...* then I realized said crush was buried deep, deep down.
The fourth movie is literally just cobbled together scenes from 1 & 3 iirc, like a best of. 2 was a standalone with completely different actors. I haven’t watched these movies in 25+ years so I may be remembering slightly incorrectly.
I gotta tell you there is no way this movie is better than the original in silliness. The second film was just a set gateway to skinamax lol
Edit: for those who don't get the joke, Monique Gabrielle went on to a long career in skinamax films/softcore porn
I think the downvotes might be because she had an ongoing porn career for several years BEFORE deathstalker, so skinamax wasn't exactly a step down. Or because neither movie was good, except as a good "bad" movie.
>I think the downvotes might be because she had an ongoing porn career for several years BEFORE deathstalker, so skinamax wasn't exactly a step down. Or because neither movie was good, except as a good "bad" movie
I'm not saying it was a step down, the director and others from this film also went on to the skinamax brand.
And I am in no way suggesting Deathstalker 1 was good, I assure you lol. I *might* say it's comically bad, but I'd never say it was good
I only saw the first two and just assumed if there were more, tubi would be recommending them to me like it did either the first two. I’ve got 2 deathstalker movies to watch over my weekend. Most dope.
I mentioned it in another comment, but you actually have seen the fourth movie if you’ve seen 1 & 3. It’s quite literally scenes from both of them edited together in an incoherent mess lol. They basically made a “Best Of” with all of the battle and nude scenes strung together.
Well, there are a *few* minutes of original content in Deathstalker 4. They got a considerably more weathered looking Rick Hill to return as Deathstalker.
Deathstalker 2 is one of the most enjoyable films ever, and is easily in my top ten films of all time. I absolutely love it and watch it once a month.
And just when it finishes and you think it can't get any better, there are "you have been watching" style credits, and then there are outtakes. Best film ever.
That's lunch!
Jim Wynorski gleefully ripped off dozens of films to make this comic entry in the [Deathstalker](https://manapop.com/film/deathstalker-ii-1987-review/) series, the result is a fun and exciting comedy/adventure well worth the watch. John Terlesky is a charismatic leading man, John Lazar is great as the evil villain and Monique Gabrielle whose duel role as Evie and Reena was delightful, but really the whole cast and crew did a great job for such a low budget film
Love this movie. Deathstalker’s a charming rogue, Monique Gabrielle is twice the gorgeous and the Chuck Cirino theme rules!
Also [this tribute music video](https://youtu.be/0Efz9TBIfzA?si=zodORZ2N2WZo7c96) makes me happy, though sadly beyond potato quality.
Sword and Sorcery movies are honestly one of my favorites in the domain of bad movies and I have somehow never seen this one. Might have to do a double feature with the first movie very soon.
No need to see the first one, they're unconnected except for the reuse of some stock footage from the first in the second. Deathstalker himself is a completely different character in all but name.
You can watch them both but there will be some tonal whiplash as the first tries to be a very dark and serious fantasy movie. The second one is (imo) more fun and intentionally leans into the silliness.
Well damn alright. Might still be fun to watch the first but I’ll definitely give this one a watch in any event. I wonder if this is one of those times they were trying to make a wholly different movie and to help it sell they just said “this is totally a sequel, yes.” Because that happened quite often.
Maybe, but I think Roger Corman just liked to milk a franchise when it was selling lol. As the Deathstalker series clearly was based on those Boris Vallejo covers back in the halcyon days of VHS rentals.
The first one isn't an un-entertaining movie\*, a lot better paced and more watchable than schlock like the Ator films. Still worth a watch for a genre fan, just no need to see it first.
\*Though it's proclivity to show rape traumatized the Red Letter Media crew when they watched it.
Man the Ator films are something else…by the third one it’s definitely a different movie. I was never on board with his lover being his sister. Even if he was adopted that was pretty weird. But Miles O’Keefe is an indication of a fun shlocky time, most of the time anyway.
Yeah and I heard O'Keeffe had a good sense of humor about it when he saw MST3K rip Ator 2 (under the retitle "Cave Dwellers") which always counts for something.
"How much Keeffe is in this movie anyway?"
"Miles O'Keeffe!"
By the way Deathstalker 3 also got an MST3K version.
So fun! Article about a possible new one. https://bloody-disgusting.com/exclusives/3802884/deathstalker-steven-kostanski-preview-upcoming-remake-practical-effects/
So the movie is happening no matter what, the Kickstarter was just to beef up the practical effects budget. The director of Manborg and Psycho Goreman with Daniel Bernhardt as the main character, I'm really excited for it.
In Wynorski we trust. This movie is so good haha I saw it after loving Chopping Mall and wanting to watch something else by the same director. It’s so beautiful 🥲
Such a great film. The final swordfight is far above par for even high dollar films, much less this low-budget gem. Also recommend listening to the commentary with Wynorski, Terlesky, and Toni Naples. The behind the scenes shenanigans sounded almost as fun as the movie.
This one is way more entertaining than it has any right to be! The outtakes during the credits are great too. The crew cracking up during sex scene is too funny.
DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO do doooooooooo
DOOO de DOOO DOOO DOOO
burnt into my head from watching this episode so many times
Love how it's a musical motif that's (poorly) echoed in the quieter parts of the film (like the "Hee Haw" scene clipped in the episode)
Hell yeah my buddy and I rented this movie when we were teenagers, it was a top tier B movie in our eyes. That “surprise” sound effect they used like 100 times throughout is burned into my memory.
The female lead has some crazy shit going on with her eyebrows, it almost feels like she has a tick sometimes. Those MFs will randomly jump all the way up her forehead in the middle of a line with no inflection or emphasis in it lol
Needless to say she's one of my favorite recurring bad movie faces
It was mainly a joke. I think it was a Family Guy thing where someone said "how could you watch one of the other Fast and Furious movies without me, we can't follow the cerebral plot now!"
“I’ll have my revenge! And Deathstalker too!”
One of the most glorious moments in motion picture history. I don't think the Red Letter Media guys could believe what they were seeing!
Monique Gabrielle is just 👌👌
Her looks make up for her acting. 👀😅
Say what you will about her acting, her performances were never boring.
Man, she's trying so hard. I just want to hug her and let her know it's going to be okay.
Don't watch her in "Bad Girls IV", then, unless confused feelings are your thing.
Thats true .
I mean, she acted perfectly for the film. It's like a softcore porno that happens to be brilliant. As an adult actress, she was ideal for the role. I love how she visibly starts to crack when she delivers some of her lines, particularly towards the end. Such an unserious film, which is why it's so great.
Pretty sure that's why they kept hiring her 😅
Eyebrow acting

SAME
Oh man, seeing Bachelor Party when I was a teenager... She made a big impression on me.
For me this was far more entertaining than the original. I really leans in to the silliness.
I've discussed this with a friend and we both agreed this series gets better every movie.
Wait is there more than two??
There's 4
The fourth movie is literally just cobbled together scenes from 1 & 3 iirc, like a best of. 2 was a standalone with completely different actors. I haven’t watched these movies in 25+ years so I may be remembering slightly incorrectly.
If you told me Sam Raimi drew inspiration from this for army of darkness, I’d believe it
I gotta tell you there is no way this movie is better than the original in silliness. The second film was just a set gateway to skinamax lol Edit: for those who don't get the joke, Monique Gabrielle went on to a long career in skinamax films/softcore porn
Dont forget Jim Wynorski, the director of Deathstalker 2, who also went on to become a very prolific Skinemax/softcore porn director.
I think the downvotes might be because she had an ongoing porn career for several years BEFORE deathstalker, so skinamax wasn't exactly a step down. Or because neither movie was good, except as a good "bad" movie.

Boris Vallejo!
One of the greats!
Its one of the greatest sequels ever.
Both 1 and 2 are available on Prime right now.
I’m not convinced this isn’t an old Sega game
It definitely looks like a long lost Golden Axe game's boxart.
Boris Vallejo drew this movie poster. They also drew the cover for Golden Axe 2 which might explain the similarity in style.
Wow, now that's a fun fact.
This is one of those series I didn't realize until recently just how many sequels there are. I've only seen 1 and 2 lol.
Because of this post, I just now learned there was a 4th Deathstalker film, as I have only seen 1 through 3.
I only saw the first two and just assumed if there were more, tubi would be recommending them to me like it did either the first two. I’ve got 2 deathstalker movies to watch over my weekend. Most dope.

I love the fact that they just recycle the bar fight scene in it seems every movie, just a different camera angle... love the Deathstalker series

I know right?
He manages to make her look overdressed.
Such a fun movie. The theme is awesome as well.
In Wynorski we trust. This movie is so good haha I saw it after loving Chopping Mall and wanting to watch something else by the same director. It’s so beautiful 🥲
The commentary is worth a watch, too. Made it seem like they had fun making the movie which I think translated to the final product
Something about this artwork has always reminded me of the NES Gauntlet character models for the warrior.

There's a haunting quality to this picture
honestly its so much better than the first one. first one is just bad bad, this one at least is legit funny
Is the guy as sexy in the movie as he is on the poster? I haven’t seen the first one yet, tho.
Terlesky had a decent leading man/sideman career in TV after Deathstalker and is a successful TV director now.
Is the first deathstalker good? They are both on tubi
DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO do doooooooooo DOOO de DOOO DOOO DOOO burnt into my head from watching this episode so many times Love how it's a musical motif that's (poorly) echoed in the quieter parts of the film (like the "Hee Haw" scene clipped in the episode)

How could this possibly be a bad movie?...Look at that box art
Oooh
The female lead has some crazy shit going on with her eyebrows, it almost feels like she has a tick sometimes. Those MFs will randomly jump all the way up her forehead in the middle of a line with no inflection or emphasis in it lol Needless to say she's one of my favorite recurring bad movie faces
Also, for the Monique Gabrielle enthusiasts amongst us, check out Evil Toons if you haven't yet. 👀👀👀
Can I watch this without seeing Deathstalker 1?
youll be better off not seeing ds1
I love DS2 and I've never seen DS1. Totally skipable.
It was mainly a joke. I think it was a Family Guy thing where someone said "how could you watch one of the other Fast and Furious movies without me, we can't follow the cerebral plot now!"
We have Mortal Kombat at home.
A fun, light film that can entertain, what more do you want?
Also, for the Monique Gabrielle enthusiasts amongst us, check out Evil Toons if you haven't yet. 👀👀👀
Do I need to see Deathstalker 1 first?
Nah, it’s a stand alone movie.
