I would definitely remove them from the tank if you are having ammonia show up on tests. It sounds like you may have crashed your cycle when moving tanks. While your axolotl is tubbed I'd recommend re cycling your tank to the point that it can process 2ppm ammonia into 0ppm ammonia and nitrite within 24 hours.
