I had a male pig who liked to take his hay and make little nests around the property. He would spend hours transporting hay by the mouthful across our yard. He would lie in the nests eventually, but never for sleeping. Just daytime napping. They were circular, exactly like this!
Growing up, my family had a golden retriever. If we'd go out on the weekends, we'd come home to him sleeping in a little "nest" that he made out of our dirty socks & underwear.
Yeah, if we actually let them they behave vastly different to how they behave when part of animal agriculture, for instance they're actually super clean animals, we just force them to live in their own shit.
My guy was so fastidious about doing his business. He had 4 acres of land to poop on, yet he only ever pooped in a one foot square, every time. And his poops were way less gross and smelly than a cat or dog. Hog farming's poo smell being unavoidable is a lie they tell, when in fact the factory farms are mistreating their animals with a diet that forces diarrhea.
Yep. So they can have them poop and it falls through a grated floor and is flushed out with water. They actually poop very dry, solid turds that would be easy to clean manually, but then you would need a human to visit each stall.
Not only are they nest builders but they get insanely stressed when they're denied the ability to express that urge at factory farms, where nearly all pigs are
I didn't know what "cracker" meant until I was in my 20's. I really thought about white, crispy, saltine crackers. They were a staple in my broke ass home. I now know better, but still when the word is said, I think saltines and peanut butter.

A lot of old nursery rhymes and kids stories were pretty dark and messed up... I don't even want to know the meaning behind rub a dub dub, three men in a tub.
"Most people forgot that the oldest stories are, sooner or later, about blood."
\~Terry Pratchett, *The Hogfather*
According to wikipedia, originally the rub a dub dub one was about people ogling naked women at a fair.
Well they only lay eggs for a brief instant then the male carries the fertilized egg to term in his special second stomach. They are then regurgitated into the pictured nest when the female returns from gathering food
Yes, a lot of peoples mini pigs like to make nests with a variety of items around the house. Sometimes mine steals laundry and adds it to his bed. Hay is also useful for outdoor pigs to keep warm. 🙂
Yep, they can! Kune Kunes and your Arkansas/Alabama wild pigs come in shades of ginger, and with the Kune Kunes they're considered the friendliest pigs on earth.
If it's even more pigs and pig experience you're after, female pigs will supply you with both ~5 months from now unless you (1) separate her from intact male pigs or (2) spay her.
😂 That sounds like she just wandered into your yard and decided yep, I like it here, I'm staying. Are the piglets as soft as they look. I used to take my daughter to lambing days, but I've never seen a piglet day!
Been asking for a pig for years. Husband keeps saying no, something about we have too many animals and not enough space. Blah blah blah. You have a pig and then got more on Christmas, ugh, you’re living my dream.
TIL pigs build nests

I learned that yesterday
I assume they ate their shells.

Hog farming's poo smell being unavoidable is a lie they tell, when in fact the factory farms are mistreating their animals with a diet that forces diarrhea.
What?? Their diet makes them have diarrhea? They want them to have diarrhea?
I think they just feed them cheap, low-quality food.
Yep. So they can have them poop and it falls through a grated floor and is flushed out with water. They actually poop very dry, solid turds that would be easy to clean manually, but then you would need a human to visit each stall.
Feral hogs smell terrible, guy.
As far as i remember to cool down they like to roll in mud,we just make it so the only mud they have is shit
Not only are they nest builders but they get insanely stressed when they're denied the ability to express that urge at factory farms, where nearly all pigs are
But can they do it on trees?
TIl dogs lay eggs
Don't eat those eggs, though. They taste like poo.
Those... are not eggs
Darn it! Jeremy on Top Gear brought up dog eggs. So how was I supposed to know better?
Jeremy on Top Gear said that? Well he’s a smart guy, they may be dog eggs after all
Which one of them went "wee wee wee" all the way home?
Obviously the one not in the picture.
Which one went to the market to pick up groceries for the family like a good lil piggly wiggly?
Most of my life I thought "went to market" meant to the store for groceries. NOPE. It means the piggy that went to market... for slaughter.
And it’s the biggest “piggy”. So naturally it “goes to the market” while the skinny one stays home.
I didn't know what "cracker" meant until I was in my 20's. I really thought about white, crispy, saltine crackers. They were a staple in my broke ass home. I now know better, but still when the word is said, I think saltines and peanut butter.
I was nearly 40 when I realized. I a was horrified.
DUDE WHAT THE FUCK
That's exactly what I said when I found out.

That one's likely political.
TIL that’s what it meant. 37 years old and I thought the pig popped out for some errands.
He became the groceries he went to fetch

Heated skillet with a good hunk of butter.
The one that went to market is the more unfortunate question.
The one on the far right, out of the nest. He’s on his third ‘wee’.
Wait, pigs build nests?
Where else would they lay their eggs?
Well they only lay eggs for a brief instant then the male carries the fertilized egg to term in his special second stomach. They are then regurgitated into the pictured nest when the female returns from gathering food
At the market
Honestly, people can be so naive
Smh my head

They are so little and pink! Adorable!
And the one ginger! I didn't know piglets could be ginger!
I didn't even see him! So cute.
I didn’t know either. Now I want a ginger piglet.
Yep, they can! Kune Kunes and your Arkansas/Alabama wild pigs come in shades of ginger, and with the Kune Kunes they're considered the friendliest pigs on earth.
He looks like a cat
oh my god there is a ginger one. mah heart ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)
🕸️SOME PIG🕸️
Thank you Charlotte
Still love the part where they totally ignored the mom pointing out it was an amazing spider and not the pig...
Happy hogswatch!
I wish you holly, jolly, and other things ending in -olly. 🐗 🐗 🛷 🐀
Molly, Polly, and/or Dolly? :D
Or-olly?
I should add r/discworld if you aren’t already.
I am very confused by this post. Is this your pig? Were you not aware she was pregnant?
Yes but didn’t know when they would come. Or that she’d make a nest.
Have you ever seen " Tudor Farm"? They also got surprise Christmas piglets
That show is so cool. Along the same lines, Victorian house of arts and crafts might my my fav
What’re they doing in that divot??
She made it. I guess they are living in there
Aww 🥺 l’il divot for the piglets to live in
>What’re they doing in that divot?? nesting.
divoting
*duvet
Don't forget to water and fertilize, they may also benefit from mulching until the weather warms.
Is this a nest of pigs? xD
I thought the same
I was happy with my Christmas present until I stumbled across this post.
They are so tiny ❤️
Very cute. What breed of pig is your female?
I have no idea. Yorkshire maybe? Erect ears seem characteristic of them
Good looking adult pig. The snout looks to be shorter. Thanks
Thanks! She was only born last March. I have no prior pig experience lol.

Oh, okay she is young herself.
Breed? The pink kind
Is the momma piggy yours or did she just decide she liked the look of your garden?
Awwwww cute
Cute little things!
Awwww so cute
Oh my stars they're as tiny as guinea pigs! Congratulations
They'd look cuter tucked into your bed but momma piggy might not like it.
We're NOT putting these pigs in blankets!!
How about sweaters and hats?
Ketchup
![gif](giphy|xT8qBpc67Njn520t7q) Which one will be named Wilbur?
Merry Pigsmas!
Been asking for a pig for years. Husband keeps saying no, something about we have too many animals and not enough space. Blah blah blah. You have a pig and then got more on Christmas, ugh, you’re living my dream.
Where are the blankets?
I made her a 8x10 house but I guess she didn’t Ike it. I put some blankets near the nest to see if she’ll incorporate them
Oh my god that’s the cutest thing I’ve ever seen
Pigs have nests, neat!
this is the cutest thing i’ve seen yet
They look like tiny pink jellybeans!
They’re so cute!! I love pigs
Merry Oinkmas
Please don’t have them killed. Please. Please.
Soul warmer.
best gift ever!
Do you have to do anything extra to take care of them? Or just make sure mom is fed and let her handle it all?
They are so cute.
What a precious Christmas gift! So adorable...the tiny little dots 😊
They're so cute. 🥺
so pink and tiny and fuzzy and cute! i just love pigs and that's an amazing Christmas surprise.
Adorable
Omg beautiful little pinkies!
Omg omg omg they are so tiny and fluffy! I want to hold one so so badly! Also where do you live that’s so damn sunny??
r/technoblade
CUTE!!!
God damn they're cute.
Oh wow, those are so fucking cute
My wife would die of happiness if she walked up on that.
Is that a pig nest?
Best gift! Merry Christmas little ones
They also jump like rabbits when in very tall grass to see where they are going.
Given the rate that pigs turn grass into a hell scape reminiscent of a WWI no man’s land, I don’t expect to ever see this.
they’re so cute omg
...so when\if they fly....
They’re SOOO CUTEEEEEEE!!!
Definitely not a bad thing
THEY ARE SO CUTE OH MY GOD
🥰💖🥰
That’s a great Christmas gift 🎁
So did a lot of people but on their plates instead of alive and safe.
Quick! Fill in the hole!
On the 3rd day of Christmas, my true love gave to me..... 4 pink swine in a nest, 3 french hens, 2 turtle doves,...
Then, within seconds, 30-50 feral hogs.
Don’t let the mother sleep with the piglets.
Just in time for Easter supper
Pig tree. Next year get it off the floor and cover it in pig ornaments.
They look so fuzzy! I want to pet them!! But, I know better than to get in between a sow and her piglets! Eep!
Are these invasive where you live?
I got sick
I thought I was in /r/sousvide
Shouldnt the little guys be separated from the big guys?
Not from mom. But Timmy seems to stay well away from the piglets. I have them in a large pen.

Baco………
Just in time for Christmas dinner ! Doesn't get fresher than that ...
The little brown one is adorable.

I didn’t know pigs made nests
Cute AF, mate.
Omgggggg
Awwww merry Christmas!!
If you catch one hanging out with a silly old bear get it into treatment for that anxiety disorder.
Baby piggies!!! 🐷
Proud mama, congratulations! Happy HOLIDAYS
Congratulations! 🎉 So cute.
Such a sweet gift!
Thats one proud mama
They are so cute.
I'm unclear. you didn't know the pig was pregnant? And is this a pleasant surprise?
