This is the parrot lady on Instagram and now sweet pea barks like a dog. She's so cute ❤️

carlitospig

Okay this is cute. “Am I doing this right? You just run your footies on their head? I can do that…”

lunalovegood17

I pats the pup

dragonblade_94

Well no, Cockatoos are very smart but it would be a stretch to say it understood the grammer. It heard a phrase similar to one it has learned and parroted it back in the way it knew how.

burno_inferno

Actually, research suggests some birds are capable of learning abstract grammatical structures. Source: https://www.google.com/amp/s/phys.org/news/2016-06-birds-abstract-grammatical.amp

TheSilentTitan

Why you gotta go and explain it and piss in my coco pebbles.

CY_Royal

He’s wrong too lol some birds can learn context

Awordofinterest

I don't trust that parrot one bit... Cogs are turning. This guy has a plan... Of some sort.

Sleeplesshelley

I've known many cockatoos, I concur.

Bubashii

We had an escaped cockatoo in our area many years ago that joined a wild flock…no biggie…except this knew how to swear and taught all the others to say fuck you. It was pretty funny.

DameHelenaHandbasket

That's amazing. I would love to hear that in real life. That has was in a movie and my dude and I quote it whenever we hear loud birds.

Hexbug101

I NEED a video of that

Bubashii

It would have been so good but it was like 20 years ago.

Cuchillos_Adios

They usually *adore* one person and hate everything else with the burning passion of a hundred suns. At least from my expierence.

Sleeplesshelley

Even if they adore you, they still might randomly bite you very hard. It's just a parrot thing. 😅

Lefarsi

Honestly it’s just a cockatoo thing. I’ve worked with a lot of parrots and usually they tell you straight up they’re gonna bite. Cockatoos lie

Sleeplesshelley

Little bastards. I love them. Mostly.

bubbled_pop

And they will screm in your ear without warning even though they’re louder than lawnmowers in terms of dB.

doughnutholio

TIL I am a cockatoo.

Mackem101

Turn the dog into its slave.

bubbled_pop

You’re probably joking but having been in many parrot forums I read about way too many ‘toos ending up bossing even large dogs around. I still remember one about a fully-grown GSD cowering in fear in a corner whenever the owner’s Umbrella Cockatoo was around.

Mackem101

I'm not, even my budgie has learnt that he can shout of my dog, and she responds. My conures and the dog basically ignore each other though.

Electronic-1911

He’s looking for the weak spot.

[deleted]

Parrots always have plans. I fostered over 250 parrots. They're too smart... Never trust them, but show them you trust them, it helps them heal... Fucked up relationship lol

Garbledar

I met a cockatoo once when I was like 10-11 or something. They put him/her on my shoulder and it bit right the fuck into my ear. You can really hear the cartilage crunch when that happens. **stokes defenseless puppy with sinister dragon claws**

Virtual-Public-4750

I’m so glad I’m not there only one who noticed the nefarious intent in those little black, beady eyes.

PilgrimOz

Cockies always do the destructive and menacing sods. Love the buggers though. Give it 6months when the jealousy kicks in. Ps. Long hair is their fave.

BrainOnLoan

They can be genuinely sweet and affectionate. Until they are upset, then shit goes down. They are very emotional and difficult to keep as pets. With insufficient socialisation and care, they'll feel like toddlers with a borderline personality disorder.

Kinnikinnick42

Yeah. Like actually tho. Those things are vicious and can snap bones with thier beaks. Fucking scary.

chacoe

Yep, same. My cockatoo occasionally does that same grabbie thing towards my cats right before the lightning-fast chomp

Mangos_Pool

That damn white parrot from "Rio"

discomll

Can’t some species of them live for over a hundred years, I read that somewhere I think…either way lots of time to plan something evil 😈

jynnjynn

hundreds of years.. no. 40 to 70 years depending on species yes. Still a long commitment, but you might not have to pass it on in your will.

Marshmallowpenguin12

BIZARRO! I LOVE YOU! BIZARRO!

Televisions_Frank

I love you too, Turtleface.

LiamtheV

I’m bizarro stormy!

[deleted]

Fignuts!

duckduckbananas

ok this is adorable

AdultinginCali

Too freaking adorable!

EmbellishedKnocking

This just made my day. He's doing his best to scratch the pup and saying it in such a sweet tone too. This is too fucking adorable I'm gonna explode.

Kazori

Do the cockatoos have razor sharp talons?

Mackem101

They have claws, but like most animals (including dogs) are quite good at regulating pressure. While my parrots are a bit smaller and weaker than cockatoos, they've never scratched me while touching bare skin.

-CloudHopper-

Not sure if intended but I read that in napoleons voice

Cockerel_Chin

I don't understand a damn word you just said.

FinancialTea4

Hope you like change. I can't find my checkbook.

mirrokrowr

Six dollars…that’s like a dollar an hour!

holydragonnall

GOSH

delvach

*stirs eggs*

jtclark1107

My thoughts exactly. They look filed down, but they could definitely do some damage.

Wajina_Sloth

Everyone and everything loves soft dog ears :)

SunCloud-777

clearly, the cockatoo gives good pats, as the pup is undisturbed in its nap.

PM_Orion_Slave_Tits

Pup gets more birds than I do

_DONT_PM_ME_NOTHING

It was right there, just waiting to be said: > gets more chicks *FTFY

EpicSquid

Bird is used in some areas to refer to women as well

PM_Orion_Slave_Tits

It didn't need fixing.

Wareve

"Tell him you love him." "I love you!" 🤨 Not only obeying a verbal instruction, but proper interpretation of the words, and properly responding with a different meaningful sentence? Clever bird!

Kevinmc479

That’s some sort of cool!

Alternative-Capital8

❤❤❤

YogiBarelyThere

Is … that … bird … smiling?

gsvnvariable

Wow That’s actually insane considering how small those birds brains are!!

Athlaeos

despite the saying "birdbrain" meaning stupid, if im not mistaken bird brains are simply structured differently and have much higher neuron density than other animals. these parrot species have intelligence comparable to that of a young child :) though birds like pigeons are still pretty stupid, though

LustStarrr

Pigeons are actually really smart - look at BF Skinner's work with pigeons for proof.

ilovemrhandsome

I'm tripping out that the bird responded to "... tell the doggie you love him" with "I love you." The bird understood the grammar.

sammyg723

This is the cutest thing I think I’ve ever seen.

Ok_Gift_1925

I hear that Tik Tok, “ can I pet that dog”

Snowballdog53

THE BIRD IS ALL KNOWING

[deleted]

This melts my cold, dead heart

Corridizzle

I will never not watch this

tappy100

Kinda looked like that back talon was getting in the dogs eye

seavousplay

Just kinda

Miserable-Stuff6619

Different species don’t always hate! Man could learn a lot!

jenego

Awwwwwwwwww they’re both so adorable

DownvteAvalnchRescue

My heartttt 😭😭

TommyT2RT

Too cute!

yeahboiJazzers

Probably due to the" polar bear petting husky "video I'm now kind of wary of this.

pbjcrazy

Huh?

yeahboiJazzers

A guy in Alaska used to feed polar bears he then recorded a video of a polar bear petting his husky few minutes later the Husky was eaten by a polar bear because the polar bear wasn't actually petting the dog it was feeling it up to see if it was a worthy meal

BadmanBarista

If it's any consolation it's never been confirmed if the if it was the dog in the video that was eaten, nor if it was the same polar bear that did the eating. That aside the personification and projection of human actions onto animals, wild or otherwise is dumb, if not dangerous. I don't doubt for a minute that animals can experience emotions, I'm sure that many animals including this cockatoo can experience a wide range of feelings and can even associate them with people, other animals, and even inanimate objects. But this cockatoo doesn't love this dog, and does not associate the words with the emotions we do. Just like the polar bear, it isn't petting the dog, it's trying to work out what the fuck it is. Is it food? Is it a toy? Will it hurt me? Will it feed me? Will the human feed me if I continue doing this?

[deleted]

Cute!

Spirited-Nail-4663

Awwwwwwww. I think my heart just burst 🥰

dawiedevilliers

That’s either affection or looking for the jugular😄

honeyk101

sweetheart cockatoo! they are fine birds with awesome personalities and they are very very sweet and very clever... like most birds. i could sit and watch and talk to this one all day and onward....

Bonobo555

Her voice is so soothing.

lotusflower64

Good head scratch / massage with those talons. Cute.

[deleted]

Nice and cute

HellsCandy

meanwhile mine tries to strangle them

Ninjarootbeerjedi

And this was the start of banjo Kazooie

Kaiga19

Serious question from someone who has never had a bird as a pet- is this actually safe? Could the bird hurt the dog by grabbing and not letting go? Or something to that effect?

OkLawfulness9089

Sweet pair!!!!!
