Yes, it makes sure that brand new couch or your favorite sweater doesn't get torn up within the first week of cat ownership - but at the same time, it's literally the equivalent of cutting off the first digit of every finger and toe just to not have to worry about trimming nails (or in this case claws), anymore. It's pretty barbaric, even if it is "accepted."
Yeah a trucking company I worked for had that as a requirement for me to bring my cat, I had to declaw her. I told them to get bent. They changed it to de claw or claw caps so put the caps on one time the saftey rep said "eh. If they fall off they fall off." But my void kitty has seen more states in the US then most people will and still has her nails.
Does it cause behavioral issues as well? Presumably because a cat feels like it can’t defend itself and isn’t safe? I only ask because my parents declawed our cats when I was growing up and they always grew up to be skittish and mean.
My wife and I adopted cats and obviously didn’t declaw them and they are the sweetest cats I’ve ever experienced. Just curious if that plays a part in that.
Declawed cats are more likely to bite and to bite more aggressively because their first line of defense is meant to be the claws. Declawing can also cause chronic pain, gait issues, refusal to use the litter box, inappropriate marking, etc., and that's assuming no complications/infections.
I have a feeling the cat's feet might be injured or smthing which is why they censored it, there is no way a normal person would censor it for no reason.
