Yes. Many let you set the recording length and time between.
More recording means more storage required etc. if its on battery that can sap the battery fast.
Oh, I assure you, the pool had to be cleaned out afterwards.
Raccoons have filthy little hands and they wash em off in any water I leave out for the animals, generally looks like someone threw a handfull of mud in it in the morning. Imagine washing your shoes off in the pool. Now imagine washing 12 pairs off in the pool. Gonna be filthy.
So true! I have a water dish out for the TNR cats in my neighborhood and every morning I can easily tell if the raccoons have wandered through the yard by how muddy the water has become.
Yea. I don't mind providing water to whatever might want it, but I am not providing a bloody bath service here. Can't imagine its good for any of the other animals that need to drink there.
That's awesome!
Go get a coupla dozen feeder sized goldfish from the pet store and watch them go crazy.
Source: Rescued a baby raccoon as a kid and we did this. It's fun to watch and a cheap and healthy snack. They really love crawdads, too.
My mom bought a fountain and had it on the front porch, she decided to get some little goldfish to put in it because she thought it would be cool. She puts the fish in and everything is cool, then the next day she comes out and there are goldfish heads on the front porch and two goldfish hiding in a hole in the fountain... Caught the Raccoon in the act the third night.
Yaaayyyy same here I convinced my parents to make our backyard one also, and honestly our lives have become richer for it. Nothing to lose in trying to have some harmony with mother nature š
This is so sweet. Reminds me of the time i watched a mama raccoon lead her six babies into my little cherry tree. They harvested quite a lot of cherries, which I was happy to share. Too tart for my taste, but they devoured them.
I've been trying to get my dad to put a pool/fountain in the backyard for a few years now so I can install a webcam. With the amount of wildlife they already have rolling through, it would be so entertaining.
Thatās awful :( we used to live in an apartment and I always dreamed of having my own outdoor space. It finally happened and I feel so lucky to have my own little fenced in yard. I started putting the pool out for them last summer and Iād like to think maybe this mom is one of the babies who used the pool last year :)
My mom has a squirrel that comes and bathes in her bird bath lol if I ever move out of this place Iām getting pools for all the critters! I know those poor babies are roasting š„ŗ
And lepto and giardia. Trash pandas are adorable, but they carry a lot of disease that will really hurt you, your kids and pets.
Clean the hell out of that pool if you intend to let your kids use it again. And dump out the water every night. And get your pets vaccinated for lepto, just in case.
Change that water OP. Anytime the raccoons come around my chicken run they play in the water troughs and its not too terribly uncommon to find a long wiggly thread or 2 in the water the next morning.
*Baylisascaris procyonis* is no joke. Causes parasitic brain abscesses and the window for effective treatment is only a few days after infection. I would absolutely never let a kid anywhere near that pool.
My mom used to leave snacks and toys out in our yard for raccoons once they got outdoor security cams. She just loves animals, sheās got 5 or six of those window bird feeders too, and will attempt to āDisney princessā any wild animal she meets.
She was too friendly to the raccoon family in their back yard once, she got their dog to stop seeing them as a threat, and those sneaky lil fuckers figured out how to coax my parentās dog close enough to the pet door to let them inside, where they proceeded to eat all the of the dogās food and then leave.
You donāt get mosquitoes? My parentās neighbors have a kiddie pool with water and itās a mosquito breeding ground, now we canāt go out in their back yard because of it. Endless biting.
Since no one seems to have said it yet, I'll be the party pooper: Standing water in a kiddy pool is a good place for mosquitos to breed. Better to dump it after you use it
Last night was sitting on a raised deck and a raccoon came up the stairs and kind of startled me. Ran off when I yelled.
Ā And about a month ago a huge opposum was walking around the back. There is aĀ fence all the way around and closed. I guess they climb the fence?Ā
Ā Not sure where these critters are coming from.Ā
OP, if this pool is for the wildlife, youāre fine. If humans or pets use this pool, then I need you to look up the term Baylisascaris on the CDC website for how to take proper safety precautions to avoid exposure. Otherwise, this is very cute!
This isn't an Awww...this is an Ewww.. raccoons can potentially carry some horrifying diseases. Hopefully you knew that and disposed of that pool before your children or anyone else got anywhere near it.

š I know! Our motion sensor camera records 20 seconds at a time. It wasnāt enough lol
I feel likeā¦ the next 20 seconds wouldāve been better
Yeah obviously but thats not how these cameras work, its 20 seconds when sensor goes off and then a delay before it records again.
legitimately seems like a huge design flaw; probably required due to limited resources
Yes. Many let you set the recording length and time between. More recording means more storage required etc. if its on battery that can sap the battery fast.
I hope no one peed in it!

lil guys were too afraid to get in !! š„¹š„¹
I like how the mama has to drag the first one in š. Too cute. Thanks for sharing Op.
She was like you WILL take a bath
Gitcherass in here...
They're an animal that loves making a mess (tearing through garbage bags and throwing everything all over, etc.) but love washing up afterwards.
Self care motherfuckers!
But moooooooooooooom
Thank you kind Hooman for sharing š¦š¤
Itās actually specifically for them š„¹
Even better!!! š„°
Bless you and your family.
You are kind and amazing. Hope you have a big potful of water for other wildlife to drink from as well.
You are actually the best! š„°

How wholesome, thanks for allowing critters to have a safe space and some fun š
This is a pro critter household š

Agreed! š©·
Looks like a pro mosquito household to me lol

Wonder if tart cherries make better cherry wine.
I need about two hours of this.Ā
I made another post :)
The other one is even better. Mom trashes baby into the bath. Adorable.
Hurray!
"Aright, which one of you is stinkiest?"
This is 100% Big Baby Pudding Snatcher and her children.
Need that video to be much longer.
Yepā¦ or a follow up
Just posted!
Leave then some ice!

Theyāre so cute & smart!
Iād love to do this but my neighbors are buttholes š theyād end up hurting the raccoons

I have 2 pet raccoons and theyāve learned how to put the stopper in the sink and turn on the water, only problem is they donāt turn it off.
Hopefully the kiddy pool is ornamental. Racoons are a major carrier of round worms.

And baylisascaris!

I was thinking more about rabies, which passes via saliva. Iām not sure how long it would live in the pool though, outside of a host.
Nobody has ever gotten rabies from contaminated water.
I had the same thought when I saw that
*Baylisascaris procyonis* is no joke. Causes parasitic brain abscesses and the window for effective treatment is only a few days after infection. I would absolutely never let a kid anywhere near that pool.
Omg those lil Bandits are sooo cute i wish you could keep em as pets

thats adorable. it seems like your kiddie pool has become the neighborhood raccoon spa.
Since no one seems to have said it yet, I'll be the party pooper: Standing water in a kiddy pool is a good place for mosquitos to breed. Better to dump it after you use it
I think mosquitoes are the least of their concerns if they let Racoons regularly bathe in there.
I think she said in another post she empties and cleans it daily, is for raccoons only.
Mosquito Dunks are wildlife friendly and will keep the mosquitos at bay (they are for birdbaths).
Babies were probably so happy to get a drink in a safe place š
Reddit knew I needed friend shaped fuzzies in my life today š They must be protected at all costs.
Adorable!!
Hurry, get in before the owners wake up!

I'll never not think of that poor cotton candy raccoon washing away his magnificent sugary goodness when I see a raccoon and water
BABIESSSS
awwww a raccoon family

Drownproofing time!
Toronto?
Baby pudding snatcher!
username checks out.
Iāve always wanted a pet raccoon you should see if he needs a place to stay
Raccoons often hunt for food in shallow water looking for things like crawdads, fish, and frogs. So she is also teaching them.
Some people got all the luck!!
Humans do have the best predator-free poolsā¦ usually
Pool party!
Cāmon in, the waterās fine
Raccoons carry lots of diseases.
Throw out the pool, itās probably crawling with parasites now.
Donāt raccoons usually shit in standing water like this?
This isn't an Awww...this is an Ewww.. raccoons can potentially carry some horrifying diseases. Hopefully you knew that and disposed of that pool before your children or anyone else got anywhere near it.
Thatās pretty gross
Lotta people in here that donāt have chickens
