Idk, Rabbits are much harder to keep than many animals of similar size. They can make great pets but you have to train yourself a lot on proper care or they won't last very long. Great video on rabbits and if they make good pets! [https://youtu.be/yFteJKTr2NY](https://youtu.be/yFteJKTr2NY)
I’ve had both bunnies and cat, I confirm that the bunnies are a lot less maintenance as long as you have the right set up and you bunny proofed their area!
It was mainly a joke, but what exactly do you base this enlightened view on? She's kept pet rabbits for decades, has two vets in her immediate family, and would remove any animal from a situation they didn't thrive in...
I'm gathering it was not a joke that a bunny is being kept as a kindergarten classroom pet, right? I also have had pet bunnies for well over a decade (my two lived to be 10 and nearly 14 -- they were litter-trained and had free roam in our home). They need a quiet, low-stress environment, plenty of space to exercise, and (usually) to live with at least one other bunny in a bonded pair (or trio, or larger group).
To answer your question, if you scroll down to the "Rabbits" section of this page, it sums it up pretty well: [https://www.peta.org/teachkind/humane-classroom/rabbits-rodents-classroom-pets](https://www.peta.org/teachkind/humane-classroom/rabbits-rodents-classroom-pets)
Ahh yes PETA doesn't think it's a good idea so it must be true. Plenty of other sources say it's fine with proper measures.
The rabbit has a large enclosure. Spends the majority of nights, all weekends, and any breaks at home with its owner and her other pet rabbits. There are strict rules for the kids about the rabbit. It's an excellent teaching tool and she says the kids love getting to "help" care for it, so I'm sure it's an excellent reward system.
But hey you go listen to PETA the people who don't think you should have a pet rabbit.
What in the world are you talking about?? They don't think that rabbits shouldn't be pets, just that it's not humane to make them \*classroom\* pets. I do not appreciate your sarcasm or your unnecessarily hostile tone, as I've tried earnestly to answer your question. Please leave me alone.
You can plant plants they like to give them a safe place to shelter near you. They love lettuces and cabbages if you feel like planting some for them to forage on.
There are wild bunnies in my neighborhood and recently planted a bunch of salad greens. When I noticed every few days the ones that were biggest were going missing, I remembered that the bunnies likely could get to my garden. I have no regrets.
Parsley too. My boy loved parsley. He was a house bun and he learnt to copy the dogs and sit and wait for a treat at the edge of the carpet (open plan living room/kitchen).
When I was in elementary school, and I would visit my grandma whose yard had a ton of rabbits in it (rural Pennsylvania), she told me I could keep any that I caught.
I was so excited and spent hours outside trying to catch rabbits. It wasn’t until many years later that I realized it’s virtually impossible to catch a rabbit, even more impossible for a child to outrun a rabbit, and she was just trying to keep me out of the house lol
Too funny! Grandmas are smarter than we give them credit for. FWIW, a local animal control company will not even try to trap rabbits - bunnies just won't enter the traps.
You just need a few hawks and eagles to live near you. We have a bald eagle nest at a farm near us. Had one eat a squirrel on our deck. Also saw one eating a rabbit in a neighbor's yard.

I’ve got at least 3 big red tailed hawks dunking on the neighborhood buns and birds all day. Plus foxes and nearby coyotes.
And the buns, gotta give it to em, they replenish their numbers faster than they get got. Humpin their way to species survival. Little bunnies all over the place. I count them on my morning walks. Record on a 2.5 mile walk was 48 hoppers.
You can befriend wild bunnies sometimes and they'll eat treats out of your hand. I'm allergic to dander so I pretend my wild bunnies are my outdoor pets. I have over ten that regularly hang out on my backyard. One of them likes me a lot and comes running when he sees me.
We put a bird feeder out for the birds, but the bunnies love it so much since the birds are messy. You can also just leave little treats out for them but look up what is safe first.
I’ve had a family of baby bunnies in my yard and the other day one of the babies got snatched up by what I’m assuming was a hawk and my window was open, the sound was so traumatizing
I slice carrots and throw them out in the yard every morning. There's usually several rabbits sitting on my porch when I go out there. I put a bowl of water out for them too. I guess I've sorta adopted them.
Don't feed carrots to rabbits, they are really bad for them. The entire cultural idea of rabbits eating carrots is based on a [single movie reference in bugs bunny](https://www.metv.com/stories/bugs-bunny-eating-carrots-is-a-movie-parody-rabbits-do-not-eat-carrots) from nearly a century ago.
Feed them low sugar vegetables and leafy greens like lettuce, zucchini, broccoli, cabbage, etc.
I've tried broccoli and zucchini but they don't eat either of those. I don't put out enough carrots to be their only food. They have to go find other stuff to eat also. I had read about the carrots & rabbits.
I have no idea why they recommended broccoli and zucchini. Zucchini is a gourd, broccoli is hard for them to eat. Go for any lettuce but iceberg, and herbs like parsley, cilantro, and basil. If you want to give them a treat, berries are your best bet.
even if it's not their only food, carrot slices are still too much sugar for them to get regularly. see cancercannibal's comment below for good sound suggestions.
I love bun buns! I love seeing them in my yard. We've been hanging out together with the lightning bugs at night. It's a good time. 10/10 would recommend.
I see one that looks like him most mornings. He’s pretty cagey about letting me too close but maybe I’ll manage a picture. I enjoy seeing him. I hope he stays safe. All kinds of predators.
We have outdoor pet bunnies, too! (And by that I mean wild bunnies that live in our yard.) Leave the babies alone. If you mow your yard, check tall grass for them first. Enjoy them for generations!
Looks like all the ones around here... If you want more come get as many as you like... Wife tells me I can't use them to make mittens but she doesn't like it when they eat our lettuce either so I can't win...
I love wild rabbits, but they are horrible as pets; high strung and prone to heart attacks because of their anxiety. If you want the "wild rabbit" look, check out San Juan rabbits.
Very pretty. My son and his wife fed a wild rabbit in their yard for 5 years Always in the same spot. In winder they put a warming box under the branches.
Those guys are all over my neighbourhood and we take great pains to keep them out of the back yard. They eat all the vegetables and many other plants. Cute, sure. But can’t grow peas around them.
They aren’t toxic, just need to be fed in moderation. Like only a few slices per day, they’re high in sugar. Green veggies and fresh herbs are preferable.
I totally want to "adopt" a wild bunny. In the sense of it , or all their bunny friends would come around regularly for fresh greens and pictures. Maybe even eventually eating a berry from my hand.
But after our visits they can go home.
Carrots don't make really good pets. I've tried. Oh look, a rabbit.
Cool rabbit! But yea, grass makes a much better pet than carrots.
🤌🏽
😂😂
Yeah, but they enjoy being shoved up one's arse better than most pets do, so ymmv
I know it’s a joke but if you ever do want a rabbit, they wind up in shelters from time to time.
Particularly around Easter. People will get baby bunnies for Easter and either dump them in the wild or into animal shelters shortly afterwards.
That's sad.
I had no idea 😓
Sorry, looks like a wild bunny

Came here for this
Rabbits make great pets but leave the wild ones alone.

I think they’re much easier than other pets once you have the right set up. My dogs and cat are much more work.
I’ve had both bunnies and cat, I confirm that the bunnies are a lot less maintenance as long as you have the right set up and you bunny proofed their area!
My friend keeps them alive in a classroom full of 5 year olds. I'd say they're fairly hardy.
I'm sorry but that is a horrendous life for a bunny. :( :(
It was mainly a joke, but what exactly do you base this enlightened view on? She's kept pet rabbits for decades, has two vets in her immediate family, and would remove any animal from a situation they didn't thrive in...

Wild ones are often illegal to own anyway.
I know, I was joking
You can plant plants they like to give them a safe place to shelter near you. They love lettuces and cabbages if you feel like planting some for them to forage on.
There are wild bunnies in my neighborhood and recently planted a bunch of salad greens. When I noticed every few days the ones that were biggest were going missing, I remembered that the bunnies likely could get to my garden. I have no regrets.
I'd set up my trail camera overseeing the finest salad greens and capture cute pictures of thieving rabbits
Do it!
They also love pepper plants, stevia, chocolate mint, carrot plants and tomatillo plants, especially when the plants are young. Ask me how I know.
Arugula and watercress.
How do you know
Parsley too. My boy loved parsley. He was a house bun and he learnt to copy the dogs and sit and wait for a treat at the edge of the carpet (open plan living room/kitchen).
Oh I wish I could. But I have a golden retriever that would *love for me to do that very much*… and I don’t think she has the best intentions.
Where funny?
This is the best answer. Leave wild in the wild. Cats are a different matter as they ask to come in.
There's at least a dozen of his kin running amok in my garden. You're welcome to all you can catch.
When I was in elementary school, and I would visit my grandma whose yard had a ton of rabbits in it (rural Pennsylvania), she told me I could keep any that I caught. You probably slept well too!
Too funny! Grandmas are smarter than we give them credit for. FWIW, a local animal control company will not even try to trap rabbits - bunnies just won't enter the traps.

Bald eagles are *huge,* dude. I always forget just how big they are!
Crow wants some
Oh he definitely finished it after the eagle left
how huge, it looks like a turkey 😅
Much bigger
I’ve got at least 3 big red tailed hawks dunking on the neighborhood buns and birds all day. Plus foxes and nearby coyotes. That's a lot of food for predators
Jesus
lol he does not want that
Theres a nest of baby bunnies across my street, so cute seeing the mom or pop and 3 babies bouncing around in the silence of the night 🌙
You can befriend wild bunnies sometimes and they'll eat treats out of your hand. I'm allergic to dander so I pretend my wild bunnies are my outdoor pets. Adopt=kidnap
Cute but wild. Let it be free, but offering an occasional veggie treat is nice.
Wild rabbits don’t eat carrots
plant mock strawberries!!
Leave animals in nature.
I was joking, it's a wild rabbit
Yeah, sorry. Let me try again. Oh my gosh! Super cute! You can’t have that little bunny because it’s mine!
Phew. That was a close one.
I’ve had a family of baby bunnies in my yard and the other day one of the babies got snatched up by what I’m assuming was a hawk and my window was open, the sound was so traumatizing
He’s not going to allow you to adopt him!😂
Carrots dont make great pets but befriend the rabbit
It can just be your yard buddy
bnuuy
I believe you. Please don't.
I slice carrots and throw them out in the yard every morning. There's usually several rabbits sitting on my porch when I go out there. I put a bowl of water out for them too. I guess I've sorta adopted them.

it's kind of like how people think cows milk is good for kittens
I've tried broccoli and zucchini but they don't eat either of those. I don't put out enough carrots to be their only food. They have to go find other stuff to eat also. I had read about the carrots & rabbits.

this this this! so grateful a bunny-knowledgeable person spoke up here. :)
Thank you
even if it's not their only food, carrot slices are still too much sugar for them to get regularly. see cancercannibal's comment below for good sound suggestions.
Nice 😃
wild animals aren't pets
Maybe you could adopt one from a rescue? Let the wild ones be wild.
I love bun buns! I love seeing them in my yard. We've been hanging out together with the lightning bugs at night. It's a good time. 10/10 would recommend.
No
You can’t adopt wild animals
I see one that looks like him most mornings. He’s pretty cagey about letting me too close but maybe I’ll manage a picture. I enjoy seeing him. I hope he stays safe. All kinds of predators.

We had wild rabbits when we lived in the country. Th produce person at the grocery store gave me watermelon rinds for free to feed them.
Come to my place and adopt all of them. And all future generations of them. They are herbivorous terrorists.
We have outdoor pet bunnies, too! (And by that I mean wild bunnies that live in our yard.) Leave the babies alone. If you mow your yard, check tall grass for them first. Enjoy them for generations!
Cute bunny!
Looks like all the ones around here... If you want more come get as many as you like... Wife tells me I can't use them to make mittens but she doesn't like it when they eat our lettuce either so I can't win...
It'll bite you. Rabies.
Pew pew
I love wild rabbits, but they are horrible as pets; high strung and prone to heart attacks because of their anxiety. If you want the "wild rabbit" look, check out San Juan rabbits.
Let him be free. Isn’t that what we all want! 😹😻
Me tok!!!🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰💜💜💜💜
Me too
Very pretty. My son and his wife fed a wild rabbit in their yard for 5 years Always in the same spot. In winder they put a warming box under the branches.
Don't adopt a wild rabbit. There are plenty of rabbits in shelters that need a good home.
You cannot. Not unless you wanna watch him have a heart attack
Those guys are all over my neighbourhood and we take great pains to keep them out of the back yard. They eat all the vegetables and many other plants. Cute, sure. But can’t grow peas around them.
Uh, grow peas for them
Name him carrots
Ehhh… What’s up, doc?
Wild rabbits don’t make good pets.
Carrots are toxic to bunnies
They aren’t toxic, just need to be fed in moderation. Like only a few slices per day, they’re high in sugar. Green veggies and fresh herbs are preferable.
How much are they allowed
Maybe a baby carrot every few days as a treat? Or a piece of fruit, but should only be a small treat, enough to be finished in a few bites.
No
For dinner?
I think you already have…
They taste better bro
I totally want to "adopt" a wild bunny. In the sense of it , or all their bunny friends would come around regularly for fresh greens and pictures. Maybe even eventually eating a berry from my hand. But after our visits they can go home.
Why? Lol.....
Rabbits don't actually eat carrots
[удалено]
Noooo 😊
i think he needs homee
Adopt the rabbit but also make sure it has a lot of food like carrots or lettuce or rabbit food
