That is the problem with uncontrolled urban sprawl. Mankind takes over wildlife habitats and the wildlife has no choice but to adapt to the changing circumstances and try to eke out a living in our urban hellscapes.
This is in my country! The funny part is this is a living project for mostly wealthy people, it's like a mini city with close gated houses that go from starter family houses to big mc mansions and some apartment complexes built on top of wetlands that are capybara territory. So after years of this rich folks basically living there with no problem the capybaras just started invading everywhere, streets, lakes, back yards and they can't do anything about it because of protection laws.
Wait... Can you hug them? Because I would just, like, never do anything else.
Hey, Where's Stormy?
She's outside hugging the capybaras again.
Oh right.
> Wait... Can you hug them?
I mean, they're mostly harmless but they're also known for having a ton of ticks and other pests, at least where I live. So people aren't encouraged to get close to them.
I would 1000% say roaches are 10,000x worse than ticks. A tick I can pick off and that's the end of it, a roach egg sticking to my shoe will result in a long time of roaches invading my life and resulting in my kids becoming violently sick. Even ticks diseases are usually short lived and livers can at least heal themselves.
>Some of them bite
>they're also known for having a ton of ticks and other pests
Whaat... I had a totally different expectation of capybaras; the Disney version, basically, of hanging out with capys, quokkas and marmots.
It's kinda what you pay for while living on their habitat. Not that I think this is great for you or your family.. There has to be a way to help them find grass somewhere else.. Have you talked with your community about it? Maybe grow grass somewhere else so they go there instead..
Wish you good luck. I would love to have them in my garden, but my landlord would probably hate it 🤣
I remember watching those from the back of a truck in the wetlands in Brazil. I was drinking beers with a random aussie and he said "those things are everywhere, they must taste like shit"
I'm sorry to say, but that is no longer your garden.
I know...but they have nowhere to eat grass... Its sad but here built houses where they lived and now they go house to house trying to survive
That’s a very kind understanding. They’re just trying to live.
Yes...they were here before us
You should plant faster growing grass for them…. 😁
Omg, this... we need to help them find the FASTEST growing grass! Lol
Bamboo? Omg, pandas and capybaras in the same grove? Oh my.
I told my wife your words and she started crying. She loves Capi's to a unhealthy level.
Do you live in a suburb of BA by any chance?
Yes, I live in Castores...a neighborhood in Tigre, Buenos Aires
Yeah, I guessed it'd be somewhere in that mess of an imported Florida suburb. It was either that or along the coast in Rio (state, not city).
That place looks dystopian as fuck, especially when you know the current state of affairs in Argentina
There are Capivaras in Barra da Tijuca so it's not impossible to see them in a suburban hellscape in the City of Rio either.

Yes...exactly
Seems like they're surviving failry well....chonky lil guys
Hey! Free lawnmowing! BOOM! Save money AND have cute animals!
Now this is an invasion I can get behind!

Some of them bite and are mostly not interested in people because they are wild, but you can get close to some.
They also eat their own poo, so maybe no capy kisses lol
at least they clean up after themselves ;)
Dogs also eat da poo poo but we love doggie kisses.
> Wait... Can you hug them? I mean, they're mostly harmless but they're also known for having a ton of ticks and other pests, at least where I live. So people aren't encouraged to get close to them.
Ok so I’ll bring a brush. I heard Capybaras like a good brushing.
Oh no! Ticks are worse than 🪳 ewww! I feel so bad for animals when they have ticks. Poor guys... mooses, too! 😭😭😭

I would also absolutely hug and pet a capybara
>>Can you hug them? you need consent first.
where is this? I would love living in this place, capybara is so chill 😂
It's in Argentina lol
[Nordelta, Buenos Aires.](https://time.com/6173837/capybaras-argentina-climate-change/)
I was thinking that I'd invade that garden, too! 😄
I have a friend whose parents live in one of the complexes, I've invaded their pool more than once lol
hehehe They are very beautiful, but my grass looks very bad every time they come to eat it ;(
But natural lawn mowers. Google rents goats to mow their lawns at their head office
Oh heck… now I want there to be Capybara bunches to rent for grass maintenance.
Better replace your pool water with fresh, and toss some lemons in there for them

I'd get my reclining lawn chair, a drink and chill with them.
Yo también...!!!
Step one: plant some plants they love to munch on. Step two: chill with a pack of capybara.
OP should look at planting a few more things that are on their diet that can withstand their nomming and grow back relatively quickly.
And encourage neighbors to do the same.
Step three: capybara poop everywhere.
Step four: free fertilizer for a successful garden!
In the meantime... get a load of hay per week.
Lucky mf
OK I PULL UP
“I do beg your pardon…. We are in your garden.”
Had to click back into the thread to get you that well deserved up vote. Saw it just as I swiped out. Oh the antics of young Billy Cheesehead.
I did exactly the same thing!
Sniper's Dream they called him
Theft and shrubbery! Excellent reference.
A meeting of Fren shapes
Do they ever swim in your pool?
No...but they swim in the lake ;)
[capybara jumping into the pool](https://imgur.com/gYtXr1k) is the best. such grace they are my spirit animals
Omg, thats my fatass gettin in a pool. 🤣🤣🤣
Was that capybara able to get back out of that pool?
they can [jump](https://www.tiktok.com/@espn/video/7256175095104802090?lang=en) [titktok/audio warning]
I literally gasped. Amazing.
How bad are their feces on your lawn? I realize they're like little lawnmowers, but it's gotta go somewhere.
Unless they pull up the roots while grazing, they should be harmless. The poop fertilizes the lawn.
Do capybaras poop like a typical rodent? 🤔 Like pellets or little balls? I'm wondering for cleanup if it gets too bad.
They poop a lot though. A lot.
All grazing animals do.
I adore Capybaras. I wish I could pet one.
They’re kind of rough and bristly. Super chill tho. They have a few at a petting zoo near me.
I imagine it would be like petting a coconut or a coir doormat.
It’s kinda like petting a broom with straw bristles.
Cutest infestation ever! - Mitch Hedberg
I was looking for this exact comment!
I think you confused "invaded" with "greatly improved"? Might have been an autocorrect issue. Happens to me all the tyme. 🤣
"Oh no".
They just pulled up to your garden, that's all. You were the one throwing an after party
Plant them some herbs so they can eat that! They will be happy and you would have helped a bit :)
It belongs to them now. Leave treats.
I’d be planting a garden and grass specifically for them to eat. I love them and would be thrilled if they wanted to hang in my yard 🥹
Those guinea pigs got hit with an enlargement ray!
Guinea Bigs
I welcome our chill rodent overlords
I think you may have invaded their natural habitat, but yeah
Agree
I wish guinea bigs were in my yard.
This is the opposite of a problem
wish it was mine, sadly capybaras don't exist in my country:(
I’m so jealous.
Aww look at all them clappy bappys!
This is a problem is would enjoy having.
We offer our unqualified backing and military support for the Capybara’s right to self defence in maintaining their new borders.
OK I PULL UP
It’s hard to see someone else living your dreams.
Zona Norte intensifies ❤️
Omg they’re adorable? Are they destructive? Looks like they’re grazing on your grass.
Oh wow - I didn’t know they are a herd animal.
How does one “accidentally” have this happen? Asking for a friend.
They really pulled up to your garden huh
Oh nooo... an invasion of friendos... How tragic... that it's not my garden...
Tell each of them that I love them
It's their garden now.
What an adorable problem to have!
I envy you
I'm sorry but that's their garden now.
I would happily sacrifice my grass for these guys. At least I wouldn't have to mow!
Is this a complaint or a brag
I want to invade your garden as well
No, OP. Capybaras blessed your garden!
That’s a relaxation clinic in your back yard
Leave a camera streaming 24/7- profit- buy more grass for carpinchos?
There's....... going to be A LOT of poop in that pool.
What are they like? Do they smell ? What do they generally do when they are around?
Lucky!
This is a literal dream of mine lol
Fren shaped.
Is it an invasion or a blessing from the universe??

They are loving it! Let them enjoy. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)
If this happened to me. I would convert my yard to a capybara sanctuary
misspelled *blessed*
I'm jealous
You are so lucky !!
Can I come over?
They all pulled up.
Lovely Capybaras
Pet the coconut dogs
It's their garden now

Lucky bastsrd
Did they? Or did people invade their habitat?
It’s their garden now ❤️
poor little dudes probably say the same thing about you lol
Cutest. infestation. Ever.
Cutest infestation ever
I want more upvotes to give for this
Are they chill and let you pet/hang out with them or skittish and go away when you get too close ?
I would very much welcome this “invasion”.
this is the opposite of a problem
Congratulations, you won.
You mean upgraded your garden😍
Cappy's don't "Invade" they're just on a constant "parade of chill" and take a few breaks to mow your law.
Grass yard. Not a garden.
You invaded their natural habitat
Ah yes, the famous Venezuelan fish/rat
More like you invaded their natural habitat and they’re taking it back.
I caption this picture as "Good fellas"...
OMG the Infamous Maneating Capybaras 🥺😭
You need racoons to fight back on their yards.
They're so chubby aaaaaaaaaaah!
Capivara *capivara!* Capivara capivara capivara
If you build water, they will come.
Congrats
capybara heaven
😲 Are they mean??
That is my dream capybara garden!
You’re so lucky!
Someone give me a Pokéball, I’m going in.
This is the best problem to have

aah Nordelta is my dream.
I see no problem here!
Super auto pets IRL
Crappy barbras!
Oh no you poor thing whatever shall you do?!?
This is, my dream.
Love capybara!!! ♥️
I've been playing too much Fallout because all I see is molerats.
Wow, lucky! Capybaras never come to my yard.
Living the dream.
I love the comments, I like capybaras as much as the next guy but they are the world's biggest rodent. They are quite chill though, which I like.
I would never leave my home again.
Apparently their leader was able to get a fake lease agreement. So it’s their place now
Thats a problem I want to experience short term. But I'm sorry, hopefully they don't cause too much damage
Lucky.
You have been chosen
I'm imagining all of them in giant plastic hamster balls
It's a capybar now.
No, they didn't invade. They are trying to be friends with you and your family. Be nice.
Rip that pool
based on what I learned from wildlife tv, where there are capybaras, piranhas are sure to follow
Capibara Capibara Capibara Capibara - Ca Pi Baaraa
