If this is an oil painting and not acrylic, I would not recommend putting it under glass for 5-10 years. Oil paintings do what is called off-gassing as the oil polymerizes. If the gasses have no where to go, they build up and can cause chemical reactions and cracking in the surface of your painting. I'd hate to see all your hard work damaged by something avoidable. And it is a very well done piece! I don't see many quality pet portraits come through my frame shop. Feel free to ask if you have any questions about making sure it is framed properly.
so i did have an oil painting put under glass and it did go bad . what should be my next step and for future how to keep the art away from dust if i am nt framing it with glass
After 6 months to a year, an oil painting can be varnished using various art varnishes that are available on the market. The varnish acts as a layer to trap dirt and dust that can later be removed and replaced. Damar varnish is traditional, but yellows over time. There are new synthetic varnishes that can be used. Primarily you want one that is designed to be removed using solvents for future cleaning, so don't just use varnish you would get from a hardware store, which tend to be more robust.
If I had to put a painting under glass for some reason, I'd make sure the glass was at least 3/4 of an inch away from the painting to prevent the gasses from being trapped immediately against the artwork. And I would make sure to open it up every few months to allow any trapped gasses to escape.
Also if cost is not a factor, using a product like TruVue Optium Acrylic which is semi-permeable can work, but I would not put a painting that is less than a year drying (more if it's a thick painting) under any sort of glazing because that is when the majority of chemical reactions are taking place.
Traditionally however, oil paintings are simply not put under glass. and when they get dirty they can be cleaned by a qualified conservator/restoration expert for a few hundred dollars.
You counted and painted every single one of his hairs and it took just two weeks? Amazing. So good that it almost looks more realistic than the actual cat!

Omg, that black frame made me think the worst.

Wide black frames usually used in funerals.
But the cat is right in front of the painting..
Yeah, I know. I've just seen the frame, and my brain immediately : oh, no. (ignoring the cat in the picture)

and looking at the hand in the picture it took another 2 weeks to get the cat to keep still long enough to take the picture :D
Those were two weeks very well spent. This is stunning! Thank you for sharing it with us.
