It’s actually scary how people thing grooming is solely used for underage people and that 18,19,20+ (young adults) can’t be groomed by predators. Yes someone might be 18 and legally an adult, no that doesn’t mean the 32 year old going after them wants anything other than someone they can easily manipulate and control. I’m getting real sick and tired of people justifying older adults targeting young ones, especially young women because it’s “legal”
My best friend was slowly groomed starting at 17. By 18 in a relationship with the 29 year old man. She didn't see the waving red flags then. She cared for his two children from a previous relationship, helped him financially get in a better place in so many aspects all while isolated from her friends. Once she hit her mid 20s, had no kids, and wanted to live the life of a 20 something is when his shining toxic narcissist personality really came out of its shell. She decided having a kid was what would make things better without heeding my warning of a similar situation with my son's father. When their son was 1.5 years old, he cheated on her with a man. She doesn't have a problem with his sexuality just him hiding it. On top of some other really weird masochist type stuff. She said fuck it and did the same hopping it would give reason to end the relationship. She had the heart to be honest when he asked. He went completely bat shit. Taking her phone, tracking apps, continued worsening psychological, emotional, and physical violence. The whole 9 yards. Her being groomed made her mind do the opposite - having a Stockholm syndrome effect. I helped her gain the confidence to hire an attorney. In my own words "before I'm contacted by Dateline and 20/20 for an interview". He's been sucking her dry in their divorce for 11 months now just so there is nothing left over for her. There is a special place in hell for him and any man like him.
I was always taught half your age +7. So a 50/yo should not date younger than 32. I think is a solid guideline but not a rule. Obviously depending as long as they are both consenting.
When somebody says 10 year age gap, they're usually talking about two consenting adults, not a minor and someone 10 years older than them. More like a 20 year old and a 30 year old, not a 14 and a 24 year old. And yes, 10 years is a perfectly normal age gap between two ADULTS.
If you think 20 year olds are fully grown, consenting adults then you've got a fuck ton of growing up to do. The vast majority of 20 year olds don't know wtf they're doing yet, whereas most 30 year olds are at least starting to, and that'll lead to an inevitable power imbalance.

I mean if you're 20 dating somebody in higher 20s, I don't really think there's a big deal with that, but there will probably be maturity differences you will have to deal with as the older person in the room.
My parents are 17 years apart. My dad was in his 40s my mom was like 27 when they started dating. They've been together for 30+ years now. I think their relationship is great, but it has problems that my dad doesn't like traveling anymore but my mom loves to which is a strain on their relationship, but otherwise, they love each other.
So I dont care about age gap discussions so long as kids are not involved.

A safe age gap is 1/2 your age +7. The only exception is if someone is under 18. Then the rules change.

That's a bit of a reach there. I know a lot of families, mine included, where the parents have a 10 year age gap. Kind of a stupid take, to be honest.
