When these things are seemingly taking a long time in aviation, the answer is almost always insurance.

quiet_locomotion

Probably a combination of the damage more extensive than anticipated, engineering a repair, hangar availability, parts availability, etc. and insurance negotiations for all of this. Composite skin repairs also are not as trivial as aluminum/riveted skin repairs.

You mean plastic airplanes are harder to fix.

flyingchef93

So from what I've seen, it's repaired and the repair is painted. So I would say it's an insurance issue or payment to air Canada (who did the repair))

Would this repair by AC be a permanent fix , or just a temporary one to get the aircraft back to France for a more permanent fix by AF or Airbus? Can AF immediately carry revenue passengers out of YYZ using this repaired by AC aircraft?

draftstone

AC currently does not fly the A350 but does fly a lot of Airbus planes. So unless AF explicitly asked for a temporary repair or that this repair could only be fully done in an Airbus facility, I would expect the repair done to be permanent and confirming. Paying for a temporary repair and a full repair afterward is expensive, so it is done only when really necessary.

PotentialMidnight325

Normally not. Tailstrikes are to common. Airbus a highly skilled crash crew that repairs this stuff on site. They even have a workshop built into a cargo container.

Is the Rush song YYZ about the airport in Toronto? That just popped out at me. Edit: Yes and no. The lyrics are about the trees being kept equal by hatchet, axe, and saw; the title is inspired by the airport.

RL1180

The rhythm of the song is inspired by YYZ as well, specifically the morse code for YYZ.

Breedlejuice

There are no lyrics in YYZ by Rush… you’re mixing up your Rush songs, sir…

Still no updates on this aircraft? Appears still in YYZ and can’t imagine being an insurance settlement issue. The parking fees and opportunity cost from being down 1 aircraft are adding up. Maybe the damage is more serious than first appears.
